Sticky Sweet is a *sweet* Maine women-owned operation, and they have earned my business.
When I saw the announcements for Sticky Sweet, I was excited and curious. After trying them soon after they opened, I wanted to wait to see if they worked out some kinks before reviewing.
On my first visit to Sticky Sweet, I was loving the delicious Thai dessert with a Maine twist, but had some thoughts on the serving size, price point ($8), and limited menu. BUT they have expanded their menu and made some awesome changes since then!
They now have two serving sizes, offer more fruit options (mango, banana, blueberry, strawberry), and they have added ice cream! I think they are being very deliberate about their growth, and I am excited about what else they will do in the future.
I am a huge fan of mango sticky rice, in general, and theirs is sweetened with maple syrup. I basically lick the container to get every drop of goodness.
Now their ice cream (dairy-free) is made with coconut milk and raw cashews - the cashews give it the "normal" creamy texture and I am loving it! I sampled sea salt maple and latte, both were delicious (and probably good together too). I got the latte, and it was a lovely afternoon pick-me-up!
And to top it off, their staff is very friendly and open to answering your million questions about how things are made or listening to your story about why you like your coffee ice cream a bit melty (it tastes better that way!)
As a small, local, handmade daily shop, their prices are to be expected, especially in the center of Portland, but they are a bit high for my budget. That said, they are delivering a great product and I will rotate them into my afternoon treat/dessert list. Give them a try if you haven't already!
