This day's visit was to introduce my friend to gorgeous and world-renowned Pebble Beach! We told the gatekeeper at the northern entrance to 17-Mile Drive that we had a reservation at Stillwater, and he waved us through. No need to pay the entry fee! (If you do pay the fee, it will be credited to your dining bill at any of the Lodge restaurants! Just show your receipt!)
We cautiously asked about seating on the outside patio since the weather had been very chilly of late. Happily, we felt comfortable enough to even remove our coats!
Hieu was our amiable and efficient server!
We began with the Ahi Crisps, $19, "trio of crispy wontons, avocado, pickled onions, sweet soy, wakame, jalapeno" to start. We opted to add one more crisp for an additional $6... Beautifully presented and delicious!
My friend ordered the appetizer serving of "Live Monterey Bay Red Abalone", $29, 'wild mushroom and forbidden rice pilaf, daikon sprouts, unagi sauce, crunchy garlic oil." We asked Hieu about the difference between the appetizer portion and the main entree portion. The appetizer portion is 2 oz. of abalone versus the main entree version 4 oz. portion. When it arrived at the table, I was surprised at how small it looked on the plate. My friend said it was delicious, but I don't think it was enough to satisfy her appetite. I offered her half of my Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich, $24, "fried jidori chicken breast, coleslaw, pickles, hot honey aioli, on a brioche bun."
I like my fried chicken crunchy crispy, and I was concerned that it would be soggy like their fish and chips, which I've ordered in the past. Hieu told me that he could make my fried chicken to my liking! He was right! The chicken was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside!!!
We ended our meal with some delicious French-pressed Kona coffee, $19 for a carafe for two. Oh, soooo yummy!!!
Food is pricey, views are spectacular, and the service is perfection!
