Stillwell Beergarden

Love this spot! Such an awesome spaces with great vibes, tucked in between buildings. Sunny and cozy with great beer and food! Shrimp roll was excellent. Perfect for an afternoon or evening hangout. Plenty of shady and sunny spots and lots of seating. A very different vibe than the downtown location, which is quite dark and was very punk/kind of odd niche music (at least when I was there).

Great beer selection and unique food offerings. Great location to meet a group of friends for an outdoor chill experience. Decent quality IPAs and lagered beers. They get high marks for their sours, I don’t have any but it may be the place to go for them. The food was fresh and seemed homemade or locally sourced. When you’ve had your fill of beer, get some great ice cream to go.

Came upon Stillwell almost by accident. There were a lot of places to get a beer in the area but the Beergarden offered a unique and serene outdoor setting. The staff were great, the beers varied and delicious and the food options perfect. So glad we wandered by!

We love the atmosphere of the patio, its so pleasant to hang out there on a nice afternoon! The food is good, not great for the price in my opinion. But the downfall was our despondent, rude servers. Perhaps both the bartenders were having a bad day- there were no smiles or you're welcomes to be found even though we tipped 20 percent.

Wish someone could emulate this place in Montreal. Such a cool spot - popped in for some beer (which, by the way, their drink selection is MASSIVE) around 5-6pm on a Thursday and the place was already bumping. Love the huge tables and our door space - the cornhole game is a cute touch. We grabbed a pickle and chips which is self explanatory which was insanely good. Also recommend trying the sour beer options and the John Lemon seltzer which is essentially a hard lemonade but on the more bitter side which was to die for. A few people beside us grabbed hotdogs which looked and smelled amazing (so much so we tried to go back on Sunday and grab some to find out the garden is closed on Sundays). A really cool, chill crowd which really made the ambiance phenomenal.

Greate beers ...great outdoor atmosphere. It's a proper biergarten in the city.

Great value for their drinks ! Overall really nice atmosphere with plenty of benchest to sit on and it's dog friendly. The staff is friendly and provide a nice experience:) When I'm back in town I will definitely come back and visit.

Great beer garden in a fantastic location! The selection is solid, the staff were very friendly, and the service was excellent. Perfect spot for a post-work beer and catching up with friends.

A delightful spot for a sunny afternoon. I don't think there's a plan for rainy days, other than staying indoors somewhere else. Many choices of beer, and delicious-looking sausages. There's also an adjacent soft serve ice cream shop, in case you'd like a sweet treat or to create your own beer float. Long tables have benches and intermittent umbrellas, in a space that is situated between 2 buildings - an urban graveled space made hospitable thanks to creative innovation.

What you'd expect and nothing more. A great selection of drinks, depending on the wind direction you can get a nice breeze and depending on time of day some nice shade too. Food menu was ok sadly missing pretzels which I was kinda looking forward too oh well, regardless, I recommend if you're looking to relax your legs from a walk and enjoy a drink, you can find almost anything drink wise to suit your needs. P.S you can have a drink tab.

There is great IPA at this bar.I always miss it when I'm not at Halifax. Highly recommend the IPA. Service is good too! Really enjoy the atmosphere of Stillwell. Every weekend I like to visit the bar with my friends or families spending a lot beautiful time there.

A great location with some excellent taps on rotation. The outside seating is nice and this location is dog friendly. The food looked great, unfortunately I was still full from a previous stop. Certainly want to get back for the food next time. They have a little ice cream are that looked cool, just not my thing. Even without trying the food it was a great time spent throwing back a couple premium quality beers and meeting the owner who was there siping and on the hunt to find even more variety of liquid enjoyment for the masses. It's an outdoor venue and if the weather is not right head on over to the Stillwell Beer Bar bar for lots of excellent tappers and some stellar bites.

Great spot to hang out and have a few beers when the weather's nice. The beer selection was good when I was there, and the food setup was done well also.

What a great set up! The beer garden has tons of seating, umbrellas, and great beer. I'd definitely recommend this is you are travelling down spring garden and what to enjoy a fantastic beer with a friend. Their food is a little limited - I wish they would have had fries or something simpler. However, we opted for the 'deep fried' pepperoni which was BBQd. It was pretty good! There is also a little ice cream bar inside too - which is awesome. Definitely a great concept, and a great way to just chill out and have a drink without having to go to a restaurant.

It's everything you've heard - fabulous location, chill vibe, and all around a great time. I love that the Beer Garden is right on Spring Garden Road - it's such a killer location for the community. There are oodles of picnic tables and in my experience, people are more than happy to share their table with you if needed. The beer garden operates on tokens, which you have to buy in order to exchange them for food or drinks. It's a bit of a strange system for what is essentially a large patio, though I understand it comes from the beer garden roots. They have a large selection of food and beer, you're bound to find something tasty! (Though it is a bit pricey) Side note: their bathrooms are amazing. I was a bit worried because they can be awful at beer gardens, and are housed in shipping containers. I didn't need to be worried. They are quite big, clean and generally wonderful. This is such a great addition to the neighbourhood!

I am a big fan of the Stilwell Barrington location and eagerly followed the progress of their Summer Beergarden on Spring Garden road. Figured Father's Day and our first hot, sunny day after a grey run of cold wet weather was a good reason to check it out. You can access the Beergarden from Spring Garden or Summer street. The place is pretty sparse with a gravel "floor" and utilitarian, bench seating. If you are not into the communal thing, there are a few tables close to self serve beer counter; there are no waiters here. You go up and order your drink. The garden is open to the sky. There was some shade from the buildings around it but you could fry here on a hot afternoon. Hopefully they will put up some umbrellas to prevent people from cooking. A beer and two food tokens ran me $15. You get the tokens from the bartenders and cash them in at the bbq stall next to the bar. Pretty simple. Even I can get it. The food runs 1 or 3 tokens and tokens are $3 each. Small snacks like a 2 bite chicken skewer are $3. More substantial bites like a sandwich are $9. The menu is beer friendly small bites . They were out of the Japanese wings so I had the chicken skewers and a Breton Hefewissen. I was surprised that the Hefewissen was not refreshing just watery tasting and the skewer while cooked well was bland. They are dog friendly and have water bowls set out. Several pooches had brought their humans this afternoon. I look forward to trying the Garden again even though the beer and food were a bust this visit. I am sure it will be one of the hot spots this Summer.

The set up here is cool, a backyard BBQ atmosphere with picnic table seating, patio lights and umbrellas. They have a broad selection of craft beers on tap and a decent selection of nibbles to choose from. My only gripe is that to get food, you have to buy tokens at the counter, then exchange said tokens to the person you bought them from to order food. Makes zero sense. Especially when you can pay for you booze normally! We got the tokyo fritos (corn chips with steak spice and salsa verde) and the grilled pepperoni. Both tasty, and a bit on the salty side, which is probably so you can quench your thirst with some refreshing beers!

Great place with lots of bench seating (some with umbrellas) to be outdoors! Located in downtown Halifax - Spring Garden where there are lots to do! Awesome selection of craft beers and ciders! The BBQ smell is mesmerizing and they have a dairy bar around the corner! The dairybar serves some unique ice cream and popsicles! Really recommend this place; never disappoints!

The tacos are AMAZING!!!! What a surprise!! Coming from California I didn't know what to expect. The way they are served is a great concept!! The staff was very patient and accommodating of our naughty dogs.

Round Two for Stillwell, this time at their great beer garden! Everything's on tap, so no cask conditioned ales here as at their downtown location. An interesting contrast is Granite's Ringwood on tap here to the hand-pumped traditional cask version downtown. The Unfiltered 2X IPA was fantastic! Great snacks, too. The grilled cherry tomatoes with charred fennel aioli and Tokyo fritos with salsa verde were both killer! Stillwell does it right!

Tskune - Japanese chicken skewer. Very nicely done on the grill and covered with sriracha and their homemade mayo. Delicious is all I can say here.. the chicken just by itself is very tasty but combined with the sriracha and may! Wow... very impressive... I went up and asked who came up with this idea and then proceeded to tell the guy he was a genius! Smoked porchetta Sandwich. - Very much like a burger; simple bun with a couple of slices of pork lion, really great goat cheese and arugula. Great combination for sure and very tasty... it was a tad bit dry, could have been some sauce or something to help... However, that said, I would get it again in a heartbeat... just my preference. They have a lot of beers on tap however only one cider... my wife is not a beer drinker and not much of a cider drinker either.. would nice if they added on a couple of coolers for the 'other' folks who enjoy a beverage. Love the layout of the tables and the string of lights for the nighttime folks...

Gotta say I could give a flying f**k about crap (sorry, craft) beer, but the side grill serves up some tasty treats at an affordable, whoops blew all my money on craft beer, price. I had the something-Asian-inspired chicken wings and they were damn good. The Chicago dog is a tad expensive at $10.50 (or 3 tokens) but it was yummy too. Yes, for some strange reason you have to purchase "tokens" from the beer bar and redeem them at the grill to order food. Seems like a waste of time, especially if you're not ordering beer. I guess if it's not too busy it's ok, but I wouldn't wait in a long line-up full drunken douches stroking their beards, trying to decide what local piss water they want to get tanked on. Also, they seriously need some tents or umbrellas or people are gonna start dying from alcohol induced heat stroke this summer.

This place reminded me of the izakayas i've been to in Tokyo (minus the milk crate chairs). We got there first thing and had the place to ourselves, but within minutes it was packed. Given the openair quality of the restaurant, its reserved for nice days. No view, but that gives it the industrial feel.

This review is for the dairy bar attached to the beer garden. Best soft serve ever. We had the raspberry rose and vanilla bean twist. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS. I love ice cream and this place/flavors are high on my list.

Found this gem on vacation the first night in Halifax. I loved the cider I got, as I am gluten free. My sister got a few different sours with raspberry and other fruits, and she really liked them. The atmosphere at night was great, very charming with the light strands overhead. Seating was decent and staff were friendly. Only complaint is that I wish they had more ciders on tap!

Being a craft beer fan, I have been wanting to check out this place all summer. I was finally able to persuade my non craft beer loving fiance to join me on a warm weekday evening. My favourite part about the beer garden is the location. The setting is casual, relaxing, close to the water and in a prime spot for people watching. If my dog didn't feel the need to greet every person he passes with hugs and licks, he could join me here for a cold one, as they are dog friendly. I forget what I ordered but I know it was an IPA, perhaps by North Brewing, but I am not positive about that. It was exactly what I wanted, I have yet to meet an IPA I didn't like. The staff were helpful when recommending a lighter tasting beer for my fiance. In typical beer garden fashion, the drinks are served in plastic glasses, which I really dislike. I also didn't think my beer was as cold as it could have been. For those who lack the good taste and refinement to drink beer, they offer wine amd Bullwark cider as well. There is a small snack menu, consisting of hot dogs, sausages and maybe a few other things. I didn't get anything as I found all of this ridicuously over priced. I don't care how local, organic or fresh something is, I will never pay nine dollars for a sausage. All in all I am a fan. The beer is tasty and the atmosphere is refreshing. I'll make sure I wander down at least one more time this summer.

I am jumping on this bandwagon. Don't let the lack of Yelp reviews fool you, this place is a happening spot! Everyone and their dog wants to try Stillwells Beer Garden out, and I can see why. It's right on the waterfront and like the name suggest is completely a beer garden. All outside seating, picnic table style right in the boardwalk. They serve a variety of craft beer as well as, some food options out of a converted cargo container. I went with the classic hot dog and a boxing rock brew.

Fantastic location, great vibe, good food and beer -- nothing more you could want except maybe a bit of cover when rain threatens! Also they have the best bathrooms I have ever experienced at a place like this that is largely outdoors. A great addition to the Spring Garden neighbourhood and so close to the public gardens too. Take friends to hold a space while one of you goes to stand in line; pick up your beers immediately and buy tokens to trade in for food at the same time, or take the tokens back later to cash in for food. Best uses of shipping containers yet!

We loved Stillwell's spot down on the waterfront last summer, and were excited to see this one spring up even closer to us! We visited just as they were opening on a cloudy Saturday afternoon, so it was a bit quiet, but we were duly impressed. They have a great selection of local beers, and the food selection is much improved over last year's spot. (The Grilled Halloumi Pita is fabulous!) The price is about what you'd expect from a craft beer bar, so as long as you don't expect "curbside hot dog slinger" prices, you won't be disappointed. A great place to chill out on a sunny (or even not so sunny) summer's day!

Excellent addition to the waterfront - this casual beer garden on the board walk serves terrific local micro-brews. Dog-friendly. My only kvetch: the minimal food menu - sausage on a bun and the like - is over-priced. But nice job overall.

Best place on earth to drink outside. What an escape from spring garden rd. The selection of beer is awesome and the ambiance is second to none. Thanks Stillwell team for bringing this to Halifax.

Not bad, I really liked the bathrooms (was like walking into my own hotel room!) and the beer is good, make sure you go early to ensure that you have a good seat. The seats are not that comfortable and the view isn't as nice as the waterfront beer garden, but the friendly atmosphere and great servers more than make up for that. I understand size constraints but it would have been great to add another level somehow so there could be more seats. One last thought: they had free dog food there! Very nice, I love puppies.

A cool spot for beer and snacks right on the water. The day was a bit gloomy when we went, but it wasn't too chilly and the views are still nice. They have plentiful picnic table/bench seating and the large multilevel deck is nice. They have a good selection of local beers and snacks. I had the Bulwark cider which was nice and refreshing and had a crisp apple taste. They do well with rotating out the beers to keep them fresh. The bartender was nice and helpful with describing the beer profiles. The pretzel was nicely salted and they have a yummy assortment of dipping sauces to choose from. One drawback is that they only have port a potties there. Also, according to the bar tenders, they don't have a great way of communicating if it will be open or closed due to weather. All in all, a nice beer garden and good place to hang out with a group of friends. It would be cool if they brought outdoors games here, such as corn hole.
