Stoa Wine Bar & Market - Review - Marina Del Rey - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Right on the water in Marina Del Rey, Stoa functions as a gourmet market during the day and a wine bar at night. The shelves are stocked with charcuterie, sandwiches, and salads. When evening hits, the string-lit patio turns into a dinner spot for pizzas with mortadella and pistachio as well as small plates like meatballs and crispy calamari." - Cathy Park

We moved into the neighborhood recently and this was one of the first restaurants we tried! They are very new to Marina Del Rey as well. Overall, we had a really positive experience. One thing they are still ironing out is coursing out food properly. Our food nearly came out all at once which was certainly not preferred. However, all of the food we had was yummy and our waitress was friendly. The vibes and ambience are also excellent! We definitely plan on coming back.

Relatively new spot in MDR. Both indoor and outdoor seating. However, indoor is very loud when busy. But most LA restaurants seem to be loud inside, maybe it is just me. We had a pizza and salad. But we had excellent help from the sommelier. I forgot his name but he knew the wines very well, made some suggestions based on what we wanted and offered us tastes too. We ended up with a wonderful bottle for our table. The menu is somewhat limited but this is called a wine bar and market, so the selections were fine. We got the olives for a starter. Nice selection in oil with rosemary and thyme. The Tomato Goddess salad is interesting. Tomatoes and fruit surrounded by avocado and green goddess dressing whipped into a 'dip'. (We used the dip with our bones from the pizza). The pizzas here are red or white. We had a marinara and a summer squash. They serve the very thin crust here. Both were flavorful, but we felt they could have had a little more spice or punch to them. The white pizza with summer squash had an interesting texture and taste. This looks like it will be a neighborhood bar as parking here is very tight, only 4 spots. The County parking lot ($6) is the closest to the building. Overall, it was a nice experience and we would try it again bit choose an outdoor table. I would suggest making a reservation. Worth going back to try their other selections of pizza.

Google
on the surface, Stoa is (at the very least) another great neighborhood wine bar in Los Angeles. but look a little bit deeper and you’ll find something more interesting going on here. this is a place that prides itself not only on great food and drinks, but on facilitating thoughtful conversation and bringing strangers together in parallel. it is a place built on community, idea sharing, and mindfulness through and through (look no further than Stoa’s “in-house” Friday philosopher as an example). through this lens, Stoa has created a true third space - a universal sense of belonging where all members of the community (and beyond) can come together over some great wine + food. also worth mentioning: the wine selection (both BTG/BTB and retail) is next-level. one of the best curated wine lists i’ve seen in LA with a wine team that’ll always help guide you in the right direction. 10/10.

Google
Stoa is the most AMAZING addition to the Marina!!! They have the most delicious food, drinks, ambiance, and staff. The pizza is exceptional- especially their gluten-free- which is hard to perfect but they did it! We love the beautiful outdoor area which is dog-friendly- an extra bonus 😊

Food and drinks were amazing! The meatballs appetizer was unreal. I definitely recommend getting the spicy vodka pizza. The staff are super friendly as well and will go above and beyond for you. You will see me here time and time again.

Google
What an incredible experience I had at STOA! The interior was beautiful and inviting. The service was excellent and attentive. And the food!! WOW! Calamari was perfectly seasoned, the meatballs were so flavorful and for sure the star of the show! They are a must order! Really enjoyed the pizzas too, which I paired with a wonderful Cabernet. Finished the meal off with some cannolis to make it a perfect night. Can’t wait to go back!

Just went to this spot here and I loved it. The vibe is amazing and reminds me of Europe so much. We shared some meatballs, the tomato salad (with the goddess dressing which is to die for), the beets, and vodka pizza and had some great wine. Definitely coming back!

Google
From the moment I walked in, the ambiance struck the perfect balance between cozy and chic. There's an effortless elegance here that's warm, inviting, and supremely relaxed with a beautiful rustic bookshelf, encompassing a backsplash lit beautifully during the sunset. The food was delicious, and the espresso martini was smooth, balanced, and easily one of the best I've had in the city. What truly made the experience memorable was the incredible service. Rich, Clary, and Maxwell were outstanding warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. They elevated the entire evening and made me feel like more than just a guest. Between the excellent food, standout cocktails, and exceptional staff, Stoa has quickly become one of my favorite spots in LA. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
We made a reservation, ordered food and cocktails, and were rushed to leave after only 30 minutes. The server repeatedly pressured us for the check, and the host insisted we leave while other tables who arrived at the same time or earlier were left alone. The staff was untrained and rude, and management offered only a brief apology. For over $100, this was completely unacceptable. I cannot recommend Stoa Wine Bar & Market, poor hospitality ruined what should have been a nice evening.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, amazing croud on a Saturday night. Perfect date night spot. They just opened and are now my go-to spot at the marina. I got the meatballs, unreal best in town. Good selection of wine as well. The service was fast, We got all our food including basically carb free pizza that was delicious in less then 20 mins after ordering. 5 stars

Yelp
Had an amazing experience at Stoa this afternoon. So glad to have this gem in the middle of the Marina! They just opened this week so I was happy to have stumbled upon this new spot! A few kinks, but not bad for the first week of opening! I was immediately seated in their beautiful outdoor seating (dogs are welcome, phew!) and glad to have been seated considering it was pretty busy. Everything was delicious. The charcuterie board was full, fresh and the honeycomb was a nice touch! The tomato goddess salad - wow. The avocado goddess with house vinaigrette was perfectly creamy and refreshing. And the meatballs - YUM. Definitely recommend. Very filling and the yummiest bread it came with were equally delish. As for parking, there's limited covered spots for now, but we didn't have a problem. They do take reservations also, which is great to know! Lastly, the Meatball Supreme pizza was everything! Came out nice and fresh with a light and airy crust that doesn't leave you feeling super full after. And of course, the dessert fully finished up our meal and will definitely be back to try more menu items. Make sure to try the butterscotch pudding!

Yelp
I came here this past weekend for dinner and drinks. It's exciting when there's a new spot in the Marina because it used to be filled with long standing restaurants. Stoa seemed like a nice addition, and it didn't disappoint. We came here for drinks but were not able to resist trying a few dishes. We ordered the meatballs and the mushroom pizza after smelling them from the table next to us. The meatballs were delicious, not at all dry. I consider a good meatball (if on the menu) to be a sign of what's to come next. These meatballs were fresh and made to order, so it seemed. The pizza was very tasty. I always enjoy a good mushroom pizza. Overall, I'd definitely return. It's rare to find a good restaurant in the Marina and this didn't disappoint

Yelp
Loved stopping in to this new wine bar in MDR! I visited in the evening, so the space was low lit and cozy. Service was friendly and very attentive. And they have free parking! The food was enjoyable- no major standouts. All in all, a great addition to the neighborhood.

Yelp
This is a great place. The service and ambiance were wonderful, and the food was awesome! I recommend the charcuterie boards and pizza! They also have a decent happy hour!

Yelp
This place is incredible. The food, the wine, the cocktails. Absolutely adored the pizza, and the bartender was so kind giving us a taste before we ordered a bottle. Honestly one of the best experiences in a restaurant we have had in quite a while. Planning to return ASAP!

Yelp
Service was great! But ambiance was way too loud. It was hard to have a conversation. And it was a bit overpriced for the quality. As for the food, the salad we got wasn't actually a salad but just tomatoes in a green sauce. It was interesting but not necessary the most delicious. The charcuterie board was nice but $30 for just a few slices of meat and cheese. We got the gluten free Sopresetta pizza and the crust was tasty but the pizza sauce itself lacked flavor. It also isn't celiac safe and a high risk of cross contamination - which they were nice enough to warn me about. Overall we were expecting great things because it's always packed and crowded but it unfortunately didn't quite live up to the hype.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night . Incredible ambience, great food, and an amazing wine list with affordable wines . Will be back . Outdoor patio is dog friendly as well . A+

Yelp
The food was cold when it was delivered and the person speaking over the phone at the restaurant was rude so even though their pizza is very good, there's no point in having it delivered because the delivery person will leave it out in the rain and not even bothered to knock on the door to let me know it's here. And the restaurant doesn't seem to care who delivers their pizza or not and I really don't like tipping someone before I know what bad service I'm gonna get so I will not be using DoorDash in the future and I will not be buying anything from this restaurant unless I go in and have it right there.

Yelp
Service was awesome. Tyler did a great job taking care of us. Branzino was the best branzino I've had. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
I was looking forward to walking from my house to our new local Pizza Wine bar . Unfortunately the pizza was below average and the red wine by the bottle starts at $60 if you want a melbec from there it goes to $100 plus for a bottle of red wine. . Our Kind waitress told us that if we bought a bottle of wine from the market at $35 and then paid $30 corkage fee we would get a nice Pinot .. Pizza and wine bar that will cost $100 ahead.. But ultimately, it all came down to the below, average food .. I guess it's all about the location . Better to get your To Go pizza from Jgelina .. I really hope they get it together.

Yelp
Let me first say that the Marina definitely needs more places like this. A proper wine bar with good food, good pours, and a setting you actually want to linger in would be a huge win for the neighborhood. Stoa has the setting part down... the space is inviting and modern... The problem is everything else. Our pizza never showed up, forgotten completely. The explanation was "opening week issues." Bread is not fresh and costs an extra $4 for olive oil with it! Wine pours are skimpy, and the servers don't seem trained or confident (unable to recommend wine pairings, describe wines, pronounce names of bottles, etc). This bar could be great. The Marina doesn't have many places like it, and people are hungry for a spot that actually delivers. But they need to tighten up fast - better food, real pours, and staff who know what they're talking about. I've been here 3 times to really feel it out. Right now, it's frustrating. Hopefully in a few months, it's worth coming back. Naturally, you will see ownership's friends spamming 5 star reviews over the next few months. Buy diner beware. Most of these reviews are gassed up and fake.

Yelp
We went to Stoa this past weekend and both the service and food were great! We had the vodka pizza which the waitress recommended and it was so good. Definitely recommend the meatballs as well! We sat outside but the vibe inside looks cozy so looking forward to going back!

Yelp
I've been to this spot a few times now with different friends and have always loved the atmosphere, it's beautifully designed, the vibe is warm and lively, and it's quickly become one of my favorite new neighborhood spots. I've been rooting for them since opening, knowing that new restaurants take time to find their groove. That said, tonight's experience was disappointing. I stopped in for an impromptu Friday dinner with a friend who had never been before. I arrived earlier, ordered a drink and some food, waited quite a while for silverware or a napkin, trying to flag someone down with no luck, eventually got up and ask for it myself. When my friend arrived, it took a long time for anyone to take his drink order, and we had to flag down the bartender from behind the bar who asked who our server is but took our order anyway for us. The same thing happened when we were ready to order food, we had to flag someone down again, and when we asked if he was our server, he said, "I am now." My friend's pasta arrived without silverware or a napkin again, so MORE waiting. The food was okay, and ambiance was nice, but it honestly just felt like we were forgotten most of the night. Then, right after paying and chatting for a bit, the host came over and said, "I didn't know you guys are still here, we have a 7pm reservation," which caught us off guard since no one had given us a heads-up that there was a party coming in. I still really want this place to succeed but the service flow needs attention. I left feeling more frustrated than relaxed, which is a bummer because I truly love having a spot like this in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Stoa delivers excellent hospitality, cuisine, and vibes in a fun atmosphere. Their wine selection is on point and you can tell that Adam their wine director is passionate about his craft. He gave us a tasting of a few wines and everything he selected was very enjoyable. Our server Tyler made some great recommendations on the food and was very attentive to us despite the entire restaurant bustling with a full house. Also their manager Amanda was floating from table to table ensuring satisfaction all around and added another layer of vibrant personality to our experience. So excited to check out their lunch and happy hour. Can't wait to return again!

Yelp
Was sooo looking forward to this place opening. However, did not meet my expectations. Positive: location (walk from home, available parking for friends, variety of seating, tasteful design), service - excellent. Negative: freezing AC interiors, a "dog park" exteriors, food - flawed, menu selection - limited.

Yelp
This is such a lovely spot for lunch and /or dinner. They have a beautiful outdoor patio as well as some seating indoors. The pizza and appetizers were delicious and they have some lovely wines. I will definitely be back.

A breath of fresh air in a stale LA restaurant scene. Amazing atmosphere, friendly staff and patrons. Great place for a coffee, lunch, dinner with friends or romantic date.

Yelp
I'm so glad they opened. Great food and great conversations at the bar. Bar tenders are waiters are super friendly and helpful. Apps and pizza were delicious. Highly recommend checking it out!

Yelp
The dining experience was outstanding. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and cared for. Every dish was perfectly prepared, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. Easily one of the best meals I have had in years."

Dawn J.

Yelp
Made a reservation a couple of days ahead for the patio. When we got there, our reservation said "bar seating" which the hostess questioned. We were not offered a table on the patio because they were all reserved even though she said that it had happened to the couple before us as well. We sat at the window facing bar seats which were adequate but not great. Waiter was slow and it took us over half an hour to get the check after our drinks were finished and a box had been delivered for our leftover food. He was very busy, so I understand the delay but he was not apologetic and gave us the impression that he could careless. Food was good. Wine was good. Spent about $200 on drinks, food and tip. Not sure we will give it another try...but if we do, I will call to verify that they have our reservation correct.

Jacob D.

Yelp
Ordered a $17 pour of their Orange- I guess their standard pour is 2 oz. Also, ordered their charcuterie which was terrible, they forgot to even put the cheese on the plate. The waitress then spilled crackers on my guest. Overall a horrible experience, will not be back. Would rate it lower than one star if I could.

Amanda K.

Yelp
Love this new neighborhood gem. So happy to have the addition. Great wines & creative pizzas. Can't wait to try the entire menu.

Nicole N.

Yelp
The perfect atmosphere for an intimate date night. They have a phenomenal wine selection from various European distributors and I love how they make their pizza dough fresh from the finest Italian flours! This place is a gem and I feel so connected to European lifestyle.

Daria K.

Yelp
Ambience is nice... feels hip & modern. We brought our 4 year old but I wouldn't say it's kid friendly. The garden salad was FANTASTIC. Probably the best salad I've had in a while. But the portion size is very small for the price ($16). We tried two pizzas (funghi, and one with zucchini) both of them were totally overcrowded with toppings, couldn't even lift the piece of pizza, way too much garlic and cheese, which makes you feel sick after 2 pieces. Perfect example of more does not equal better, which is a shame because the crust is REALLY GOOD. Service was quick and fine, but nothing extraordinary. Overall this place has potential if they make some changes.

Latif A.

Yelp
Incredible ambiance and menu. Highly recommend for those looking for a unique and high class experience with globally sourced ingredients and quality. Was truly exceptional. A+
