This place has absurdly high prices. I’m pretty sure they just buy all their inventory from Costco and resell it at insane markups. They’re really tryna sell the Costco 24 pack of eggs for $20 lol. It’s $5 at Costco.

If you’re of African decent, I’d avoid shopping here. Walked in and asked the first employee I saw for help with finding coconut oil, he just stared at me and didn’t say anything. I was able to get assistance from the cashier, who pointed to me where to go. The man followed me the entire time from aisle to aisle and watched me, and when I went to check out he stood behind the counter behind the cashier and glared at me the entire time. He only walked off when another customer asked for assistance, and his entire demeanor changed to polite and helpful. (And if you’re wondering, yes, they were.) It was such a weird and uncomfortable experience overall, and I won’t be shopping here again.

Price is absolutely crazily high for goods that are average quality. It's a miracle that the store is still in business.

stopped in for snacks. $6 for a 11oz prepackaged coffee drink. and the bags of chips i got was sealed with scotch tape, not sure if it’s legal to sell damaged food goods. and unrelated to me but i see the other comment about the employee being racist so i won’t ever go back

So being new in town n this being the closest so called grocery store n not wanted to travel by foot far I visited this location for the first time yesterday. Im almost 100% sure the only two large pizzas there said 7.99 but once at the register they were a whooping 12.99! Of course I mentioned it to the employee n didn't think later until when I got home about the discrepancy in the pricing. Nonetheless I cook the pizza and proceed to eat it! Not! Look at the photos of where it ended up at n it sure want my stomach! I mean at least if you gonna charge a price so high ...let it be one of the Best Tasting Store Bought Pizzas theyve Never Had! Like come on people...are you not testing n tasting the product your overcharging people for? Cuz from the looks of this...I had to go eat something else for the night n I wish I would have kept my receipt to go back to get a refund however I'll just never spend with them again! Grow a more loving heart please people. It'll be more beneficial for the people n for your Business!.💘

Closes early. Why even post the hours if you're not going to follow them?

I have been here more than 9 times and every single one of them has been great! The staff is beyond helpful, polite and are extremely friendly! They have a few prepared meals that are great if you are on the go (that need reheating) as well as both room temperature as well as chilled beverages. They also have fresh fruit and vegetables. It’s a nice place to have if you are in the area.

Google
I can't speak to the experiences of others, but I was there today buying groceries and I'm disabled and use a walker. As I was walking out the door my groceries dropped ALL OVER the sidewalk. I moved to pick them up but a lightening fast blur of color beat me to it! This guy must've made it from the checkout station, out the door, to pick up my groceries in less than 2 seconds! He had no obligation to do so. In fact he left two not-so-savory types in the store alone to help me...the only reason I'm giving four stars is because they do have quite high prices. But that guys customer service deserves 10 stars! Being disabled you're forced to get used to being invisible to regular folks...thank you sir for seeing me and helping me!

Yelp
While I imagine this Market is popular due to its location the prices leave something to be desired. On top of that, the coffee creamer I bought from the refrigerated section to take to my mother at the Harborview ICU so she could have half a decent cup of coffee while recovering from surgery was curdled and spoiled. So, good times I guess?

Larissa K S.

Yelp
Good selection, friendly service. Prices are high; but for good products, including organic produce. Most of their businesses probably comes from Harborview Hospital staff who don't have much time. Imagine Whole Foods setting up a shop the size of a 7-Eleven. Btw, if you're up for splurging both calorie & cost-wise, check out the Acme Valley ice cream; it's like triple concentrated. Sooo yummy! But a rare treat if you care about your waistline.

Yelp
I love you guys,,,,, but come on,,,, even by convienience store standards this is crazy

Yelp
LOVE this place. I echo the sentiments of other reviewers that the staff are super kind and welcoming and the selection of organic produce and local foods are OFF-THE-CHAIN when compared to most stores. I'm a Co-Op gal who usually does Central Co-Op but when I can't get there, I pop in here and get juices and wine and great foods. You guys got me hooked on Sweet Lo's ice cream. The cheese and meat selections are great as is their fresh bread and pastry area. Pre-made or frozen meals are also really stupendous with their selection. I'm used to paying co-op prices so Stockbox seems pretty fairly priced. I'm a farm girl so I know what fair prices are to keep farmer's in biz and I applaud Stockbox for stocking so much local and organic fresh and frozen foods. Fucking brilliant, lads!

Yelp
Stockbox has the best selection of all the little markets around me in First Hill since I don't live walking distance from a full blown grocery store, but it's not without the extra cost! I felt overall there was a pretty good selection here and I really loved all the local food companies sold, but some things were basically a 30-40% markup over the average grocery store price at say QFC. The cashier was really friendly and they also have a points program, however being so expensive, I'll do better at planning ahead for my groceries and save coming here for emergencies.

Yelp
I know quite a few people love this grocery store, but I just can't get on this train. First off, the prices are NOT cheap but not astronomically high either. It's on par with paying for basic essentials at the airport. The shop does have a fair amount of selection for drinks and some snacks. The produce is subpar, I've found most veggies and fruits to be wilted. It's not going to replace my Whole Foods but its the best option in the area without having to hike into Capitol Hill.

Yelp
I know most of you hate when people do this, but Stockbox First Hill gets an extra star from me simply because of it's proximity. Unless I need cat food I really have no ~need~ to walk a mile to the nearest grocery store. Stockbox. Not quite a full grocery store, not quite a bodega. But super super convenient. First Hill hasn't had anything CLOSE to this for years, so I am so excited to have this place literally around the corner. First things first -- this isn't huge. This place stocks the basics with a little extra something on top. So come here for milk, eggs, bread but also Stumptown Coffee, Macrina bakery goodies, greek yogurt, Annie's dressing, local dried fruits, etc. And OMG. Fresh produce!!!! That isn't just apples and bananas. No more sad salads, no more realizing I am out of garlic. I have fresh goodies at my disposal. Am I missing weird things like turnips and kumquats? Yes, but how often would I be buying those ANYWAY? They even have ready made meals (wraps, sandwiches, fruit and yogurt cups, burritos) for the working hospital crowd. Way to go guys. Biggest downside -- the price. Convenient equals expensive in this scenario it seems, where a jar of Prego runs $4 and a box of basic popsicles nearly $6. Produce is cheaper, but still on the high end of things. Think Whole Foods prices, at like a 16th of the size. So a solid 3 stars, up to 4 since I have somewhere I can run to for veg and last minute sundries as needed without the hassle I experienced before.

Yelp
Wow, I was really impressed with this little corner grocery store! I was in the area and needed seaweed...and they had it ;) They had a bunch of pretty produce (it seems they have a produce happy hour...everyday?), great selection of beverages, a little of this and a little of that. And MACRINA goodies, uh what?! Sure, some things are a little pricey, but most prices seem standard. You can get a healthy meal for lunch if you need to or pick up some grocery items on your way home. They have a lot of quality products here, again I'm impressed. I don't live in the area and work down the hill, so I'd only really ever stop by if I have to stop in at HMC. But, great little gem!

Yelp
Easy and convenient to grab a snack or food. Pretty nice selection of grab and go lunch items like sandwiches and sushi poke bowls. There's also 3 tables or so to sit and eat your food there, if you choose to do so. Handful of special items like chocolates, yogurt, bread, and fresh produce. Will always come here rather than a gas station when in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Thank you so much for amazing selection! Especially with fresh fruits & veggies. Would love if the "bulk options" would have some more healthy variety options... Beans... Nuts... Grains. But, overall, love your store! It's so essential in the area. Thank you.

Yelp
Small neighborhood grocery store, cheap especially for its location . The young Asian guy working there this evening was extremely nice and very honest which I always appreciate. I'll absolutely shop here again mostly because of him.
google avatar

Brenden H.

Yelp
Since I live so close, anytime that I have forgot a key ingredient to my meal the Stockbox usually has it. A pretty decent variety in things especially for cold box drinks. The price is altitude high so I don't come in a whole bunch but when I do all my needs are met. You guys rock! Also add more vegan options
google avatar

Yelp
Not bad for one of the only grocery store on the immediate first hill area. It's a bit pricey though but it's good if you're needing something last minute or on your way to work! They offer a huge variety of products and if you don't see something that you like, you can request to have it stocked! Lots of great options for breakfast and lunch but again, pricey. They do sell Macrina and Might O Donut products though and sometimes have day old bread and pastries at a discount. They now have a rewards program for every $10 you spend you gather up a point which can then be redeemed later for money off your next purchase.
google avatar

Yelp
This is basically a convenience store on steroids for customer service. They are so friendly and nice. And yes it's more expensive than a grocery store but no more so than any other convenience store and they have better stuff. And did I say that they are so nice.? So nice.
google avatar

James N.

Yelp
Great neighborhood grocery. I wish there were more neighborhood stores like this. Sure beats the couple miles to QFC. Selection is perfect, they have just the right stuff for most meals. They also have coffee and pastries. This really fills a void in the neighborhood, there's really nothing in walking distance other than the gas station.
google avatar

Chad H.

Yelp
We live right around the corner from Stockbox and it's the perfect place to run into to grab a few things. We probably go there a few times a week when we need a few things for dinner or lunch the next day. The best thing about it is the produce. It is high quality and very well priced. The day old bread and pastries are still good and are priced very well.

Yelp
I went in there to look for shoe shine and a coffee filters and the supervisor was looking at me and profiling me like I was going to steal something because i could not find my boot shine so she stood there and looked at every move i did and i did not like it because i dont steal and i think they should not be doing that to people that dont do it i went in there looking good and will dressed and she still did it . it was a big girl with a ring in her month over stepping her job and taking it over board when you do this kind of things you make your company look bad and the people dont want to come back and one other thing the items are over priced because its not a normal store thats why i dont shop there now because this happened i will not go back here i will be going to target or QFC .

Yelp
Great neighborhood grocery. I think this is ~4.5 stars (taking off half star since some items are a little pricy). It's clean, they have a diverse selection for the size of the store, and they're open until 9pm. It's tiny, basically 1 square room, so I was pretty amazed at how much selection they did have. They also have a rewards program if you spend over a certain amount every trip, which is easy to do if you live in the area and get stuff other than lunch items. Here are a few items I remember they definitely carry: - pre-made lunch and dinner items, sandwiches, pasta, quinoa, mini cheesecakes, etc - fresh, good quality veggies (avocados, bananas, tomatoes, spinach,..) - pantry items (canned goods, tomato paste, dry pasta, jam, nutella) - plenty of Washington/Oregon wines and beers. No hard liquor :-( - frozen items (veggies, pizza, vegetarian chik'n nuggets, ice cream) - spices - bread, english muffins, bagels

Yelp
I have been a First Hill resident for almost 3 years. Stockbox is a god sent. When I first moved to the neighborhood, the closest grocery store was QFC in Capitol HIll & Kress Downtown. In 2012 we were blessed with a City Target. Finding out an actual grocery store was going to open up in my neighborhood overjoyed me! For being a small store they have a decent selection. Fresh produce, meats, dairy products, eggs, dry good, wine, beer, drinks, snacks, and household items. The downside of being a small store is that prices aren't' very competitive compared to big box stores. But it is a local small business which for me, is worth the higher price. Customer service here is outstanding. Everyone is always super nice. They had a bad shipment of packaged salad and chicken one day and were very easy and cool about me returning it to get something fresh. They also grind your whole bean coffee there for you! I have noticed over time they are adding more specials, such as 10% off wine on Wendesdays! I am a huge fan, and from the bottom of my heart, Thank you for joining our neighborhood. We are happy to have you!

Yelp
I just moved to First Hill and one night I suddenly realized that there wasn't a grocery store near by! This was a huge upset! "How will I get ice cream? What if I run out of wine?!" These thoughts were racing around in my head. THANKFULLY there is a small little grocery on first hill, I just had to hunt a little. When I first walked into Stockbox I was a little skeptical. It's about the size of a corner store, and it's on a corner. Corner store it is not though. There's fresh produce, fresh made salads and sandwiches. They carry a great selection of locally sourced groceries; bread from Macrena, ice cream from full tilt, fresh dairy, stumptown cold brew, and the list goes on! Thank you Stockbox, you are a cheerful beacon of hope when all hope for groceries is lost. Until we meet again.

Yelp
I don't often get to stop in here, but when I do, I find something new each time that amuses me. (In a good way!) The prices aren't dirt cheap, but they're quality items, and it's a nice change from the vending machines and espresso bar when you work night shift and stop in before work. Thanks for finally putting a grocery store in the neighborhood!

Josh D.

Yelp
Nice staff and so great to have another grocery store in the neighborhood. The coffee is actually pretty good too in the morning. You can't do all of your grocery shopping there, but it has a good variety if you just need to pick up a couple things during the week. First Hill is a quickly changing neighborhood. I hope Stockbox stays!

Jasmine K.

Yelp
I've been here twice to get lunch, and I think it's a great, pretty tiny grocery store! They have a grab and go section with burritos, sandwiches, and more (lots of vegan options, it seems), some produce, and a small selection of other grocery items. Things are a bit pricey here. I don't think I could do all of my regular grocery shopping here, but it would be a great place to stop after work for a few things or get a quick meal. They also have self serve tea (and coffee, I think?) and a microwave for customer use. The staff also seem very friendly!
google avatar

Katherine S.

Yelp
Saved me a trip to QFC so many times! Has a great selection of produce and last minute meal additions.
google avatar

Maxxwell M.

Yelp
Stockbox 1st Hill is a great addition to the neighbourhood. It fits the needs here like a glove. Being disabled it is easy to get to with out hassles. And the whole staff are friendly, always greeting you as you come in, and always have a smile. Though some items are a little pricey it is worth it. I myself am willing to pay the difference for the convenience and respect you get. They are always trying out new products and constantly want feedback on new foods they can carry. Always wanting to please their customers. I am so grateful for them moving into the area. And hope they stay a long time from now.
google avatar

Rachel A.

Yelp
I love everything about this place! I work at Harborview and come in ~3 times a week. They have great options for to-go lunches (I love the salads and sushi bowls), freshly brewed stumptown coffee (by far the best coffee you can get in the vicinity), and a wide range of interesting snack items. I enjoy the discounted pastries. I buy my whole bean coffee there as well - they have a small but impressive selection of freshly roasted beans, and occasionally pick up a bottle of wine on the way home. It's pricey, that's for sure, but not out of proportion with the organic and specialty items they specialize in. The cherry on top is the incredibly friendly staff!
google avatar

Laurie L.

Yelp
Perfect for small groceries. Friendly people and fresh products. I always find what I want to buy and help me to save time instead of big grocery stores where I am spending a way too much money and time.
google avatar

Helen C.

Yelp
Love Stockbox. It's a great little store to pick up groceries that you need right away, but don't want to go all the way to the bigger store. Friendly staff. Fresh produce. A good variety of products.
google avatar

Vanessa L.

Yelp
Recently moved to First Hill and was happy to have this little market as a local option. They have great hours (M-F 6:30am-9pm & 8am-9pm on the weekend), a convenient location, and product selection is better than you'd expect from a tiny (near) downtown shop. The only reason they didn't get 5-stars from me is because the prices can be a tad steep (though I'm not one to skimp for convenience!)

Foodie E.

Yelp
Little over priced but average if you just need herbs, spices, or things like an onion to make soup. However, I would not come here for meat or produce since it can get prices. The upside is that it is super clean. It is convenient for me since I work just around the corner on 9th and jefferson and I don't have to go drive to the store. I wouldn't drive here though -- there is not any free parking. The sandwiches taste better than subway.
google avatar

Crystal D.

Yelp
Prices are steep but the staff is very helpful and the facilities are well organized and clean. I really enjoy their entrees, their fruit and snacks. Don't go to the gas station across the street or any of those other "convenience stores" and treat yourself to good food.
google avatar

Laurie V.

Yelp
I'll admit the first time I went in here I had a bias. However StockBox proved me wrong. Most corner grocery stores carry lots of processed foods, and the prices are ungodly high. The price of convenience. As for local products, and produce forget it. At StockBox it's the opposite. You can get local products, produce, meat, and specialty items. Prices are reasonable, and really not any worse than a major supermarket. Some things are higher. Although I wouldn't say it's price gouging for the convenience. A welcome surprise! I wish my neighborhood had StockBox. Love this place. It restores my faith in corner grocery stores!

Jess W.

Yelp
Small, cozy and super convenient. First Hill has its share of corner stores, but the selection always felt a bit lacking when it comes to dinner options. No more despair! No more having to walk down the entire hill or up and across it just to fetch one essential item! I appreciated my 5 minute walk today. I also appreciated that I was able to find everything on my list. Their selection is still a bit small (and growing! You can send in suggestions at their website), but they have a little bit of everything. There's an absence of a few well-known brands, but in their place there are interesting healthy and local options. The prices are higher than some of the chain grocery stores, but I didn't find them absurd or mind-boggling (and in all honesty, some of those grocery locations aren't any better). Besides, if it saves me 10 minutes of carrying heavy groceries up the hill I will gladly pay an extra few cents. Comfortable atmosphere, was a nice sunlit day and there's even pleasant music over the speakers. Stockbox, I predict that you and I will have a nice friendship. A quick update: Be sure to check the expiration dates on time sensitive goods. I'm still a happy customer, but some of their items cut it pretty close. A clearance item I just bought "expired" before I purchased it. Take a quick look and check the date if it's a concern for you.
google avatar

Lindsey M.

Yelp
oh man this place is great. I'm always running late so to have a mini-grocery right near where I live is a life saver. Often I am making dinner and realize I am missing an ingredient, I feel confident that Stockbox can help me out. It has high quality food options (similar to whole foods), produce!, and grab&go lunch/snacks. NOM! So happy to have this in my neighborhood.

Josh F.

Yelp
I love this little store! I just moved to First Hill and this place is perfectly situated to fit my needs. It's not huge, which I like, and the selection is above average. The cashiers are really friendly, and there's even a rewards program - MAJOR bonus! And the produce happy hour is a very clever idea! I left one star off for two reasons: Number one is understandable, but still frustrating : it's a little pricy. But hey, it's local and non-corporate and some of it is organic. I'm willing to pay it, but only for what I need - I wouldn't shop here to completely stock my cupboards, but I'll come in for things I need and a few treats here and there. Number two is that there could be more organic options all around. I noticed a few things are, so I'm not complaining much. But for the price, I think there should be better organic selection - especially in the produce isle. Thanks for being a convenient, local grocery store!

Yelp
Great little store, Awesome fruit selection, I go for milk and ice cream. I like the spend 10 bucks, and you get a credit,10 credits and you get 10 bucks Great staff always very nice.

Tauschia C.

Yelp
Thank goodness these guys are here! I am so happy to know that I can get some healthy affordable food on First Hill. Great store, great people. And you get exchange reusable bags if you forget yours!
