Amazing food and service. We didn't have to wait even though we were a party of 9. The Swedish pancakes are huge and delicious. The homemade cinnamon rolls are the size of a dinner plate and can easily feed 3 people.

Google
Really delicious Swedish pancakes! Also had eggs and some bacon. I enjoyed the interior of the restaurant and the Swedish theme. Overall I would recommend this place!

Great atmosphere. Live music featuring Bert & Lindy while you dine on a Friday night. Clean. Lots of Swedish, Norwegian sights to take in. Take home a Cardamom Coffee Cake or rolls or something else that is.special to the culture. So special and worth a trip out here to enjoy. Not rushed. Enjoy.

If you’re ever in Rockford, Illinois, you can’t miss the Stockholm Inn on Charles Street. This restaurant is a true gem that celebrates the city’s Swedish heritage. From their world-famous Swedish pancakes with lingonberry sauce to the Swedish meatballs, each dish is made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The atmosphere is cozy, and the service is warm and attentive. They also offer a breakfast buffet that’s simply delicious. If you’re looking for a unique dining experience in the city, this is the place to be.

We were hoping for a more authentic Swedish experience and food, but it was okay nonetheless. They no longer have Baked Rice Pudding on the menu, which was very disappointing as my Swedish Grandmother would make this for us on occasion. However, their sweet rye bread was quite tasty. I had the Swedish Meatball Sandwich and my husband had the Hot Sandwich with Beef. Nothing fancy, but it did the job!

Google
This is my third time eating at this restaurant and the third time by far was the best! The breakfast buffet is worth the $16 price and just ordering off the normal menu is delicious as well. They are well known for their Swedish Pancakes for a reason and they are my favorite. The waitress Caroline is the best service I have had here and I highly recommend requesting her section especially on a slower day. She is very attentive, friendly, and efficient. If you are in the area I highly recommend this establishment!

Amanda Wood

Google
I love introducing this place to new people, especially when there’s the breakfast buffet. $15 for all you can eat Swedish pancakes and much more. Definitely top those pancakes with the lingonberries!

Google
Was looking for some place different and found this long established restaurant in Rockford. We went for the buffet which was economical and great! Loved the Swedish pancakes and lingonberry sauce. They went perfectly with the Swedish meatballs. Nice decor and good spacing between the tables. Friendly attentive staff and a pleasant crowd of people. They have a big gift shop and all things sock monkey. Next time I'm in the mood for pancakes, I won't hesitate and be there for the Buffet Saturday or Sunday. $14.99 per person.

Yelp
The original restaurant was always a treat... And yet the wait was always worth it even though I was only in my 5ishes lol Being only 66 now and getting to their present location is still a treat, especially the buffet offerings on the weekends.. Even though it's a great menu with much to pick from, the weekend Buffet has been a great addition. Crap, i just made myself hungry....

Yelp
Big place, mediocre food, Lackluster service. They literally walked away before I could even answer how the food was. As 2nd and 3rd generation Swedish Americans - they missed the mark on the food here. The worst Swedish pancakes and lingonberries I have had. The eggs Benedict were okay- eggs were an overcooked but the sauce was well balanced and had a nice zip. Bacon was the best part of the food. The fruit on the side was decent. Coffee was good, but no non-dairy option. Also no gluten free. This is one step away from old country buffet or Denny's. Plenty of better options in the area. Also booths are rickety and the people moving on the other side shook us the whole time. It was like trying to eat while in a rodeo. It was like this on both sides- I would sit at a table instead.

Yelp
Used to be my favorite place for breakfast or lunch. very nice atmosphere, confortable seating. unfortunately, the food and service has degraded significantly. I stopped in for breakfast yesterday after a 2 year hiatus. The place was nearly empty with fewer than 5 tables with customers. Ordered cinnamon french toast with a side of bacon and coffee. Food arrived 20 minutes later, and the bacon was refrigerator cold. waitress never returned to check on things and never brought the bill. I finally stood at the cashier stand for 15 minutes and flagged her down for the bill. Told her about the bacon, and she said to just tell the cashier to delete it. Will be several years before I visit again, if ever. Sad to see a gormer great place dive to the bottom with no regrets.

Yelp
We had a friend point out this place after he found it online and were looking forward to out next visit to Rockford to give it a try. It lived up to our hopes! I am not experienced with Swedish food beyond the meatballs from Ikea, but this was much better. Swedish meatballs were a highlight with soft texture and excellent flavor and a light gravy. The swiss steak was delicious. I am ussd to Polish cabbage rolls but the Swedish ones are a wonderful variation cooked with brown sugar. Also dinners came with Cardamom rolls and I never want a cinnamon roll again. Our server was very nice and helpful. Food was a little slow but we also delayed ordering a couple times. It was so worth the wait though. I think maybe they are having a little trouble getting good help, but our experience was good. Also the building was fun looking. The colors and style are a real change from what we see in our neighborhood. We really qish this wasn't an hour drive from our house. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Stockholm Inn in Rockford, IL is known for their breakfast buffet. Only $13.99, it features Swedish & American cuisine. Dont skip the Swedish pancakes with lingonberry sauce Swedish meatballs Potato bake HUGE space, so no wait. Loved the little booth we got by the buffet. Super attentive service - water glass was never empty.

Lesli B.

Yelp
Arrived at 1145 am, still waiting for our food, 1224 pm. Lackluster service, even as restaurant was emptying out. Owner needs to hire more staff as this seems to be a popular place to eat. Food was good.

Yelp
My wife wanted breakfast, and Stockholm saved our marriage. I picked up a to go order in minutes of really tasty eggs, cheese hash brown bake with biscuits, and gravey on the side in only minutes from ordering them. "Happy Spouse, Happy House" thanks Stockholm!
google avatar

James F.

Yelp
I was super excited to try The Stockholm Inn when I first heard about it and I finally got the opportunity! The awards they have received had me going in ready to be blown away. Unfortunately, however, it didn't live up to the hype for me. The service was prompt (although not the friendliest) and the dining room was somewhat comforting, but the food was dated and lackluster. I wouldn't set it too far apart from the culinary experiences that you can get at American breakfast houses like Denny's, which frankly was just a huge disappointment given the sell here. I could see how this place is nostalgic for some, but I won't be going back.
google avatar

Yelp
The Stockholm Inn is an old fashioned family type restaurant with generous portions and genial servers. My wife had the potato pancakes, which are more pancake than potato, to be sure. I had Swedish meatballs, which although not highly seasoned, had Gravy. There was also a corn streusel side dish thing which went mostly uneaten (we were curious). Only problem was that the diner behind me was watching video on her speakerphone most of the meal, which is incredibly obnoxious but sadly not uncommon these days. (Next visit we will ask to be seated in a more isolated location.)

Yelp
good place for breakfast. It's a Rockford institution. pancakes are their thing, although other things on the menu look cool too.
google avatar

Robert G.

Yelp
Always a perfect place for breakfast or lunch. There's a tradition there that they consistently uphold of providing good food day after day .

Haley C.

Yelp
Every time I eat in there it's awesome. But apparently if you don't have the luxury of sitting down and eating - you can't enjoy their food. On hold for 7 minutes just to place a pick up order. Closed on doordash for some reason also? Disappointing
google avatar

Andrea H.

Yelp
Went for the breakfast buffet, was awful, all pre frozen foods and powdered eggs, sausage gravy was like wall paper paste, way too many potato casseroles and all made from dehydrated potatoes, only 2 swedish offerings ,way overpriced for food quality, won't be back

Lexi F.

Yelp
A tradition that never disappoints. When my parents are here from florida we make this our first breakfast step.

Enza D.

Yelp
This place has unfortunately gone down hill. Dirty coffee cups and utensils. Coffee is horrible. Hostesses dress like they're going to work out rather than seat guests etc. Hoodies. Workout pants. Gym shoes. Grumpy faces. Management... wake up.
google avatar

Adam K.

Yelp
When in Rockford and if you want solid food in a fun atmosphere then Stockholm Inn is the place. Situated in a bland mall, this very large series of dining rooms will await you. The menu is comprehensive and the service is attentive. Wait staff are in uniforms. We ordered the Swedish meatballs, the Swedish pancakes and some Lingonberry Lemonade. Everything was tasty. You pay up front and can admire Cheap Trick's Swedish themed guitar.

Maurice M.

Yelp
Absolutely the worst fish I've ever had. It looked and tasted like it was refried several times. I'm a big fan of Stockholm but this was awful, it shouldn't have even left the kitchen looking like it did.

Yelp
A Rockford staple if there ever was one. I've been coming here my whole life and would highly recommend for one of the best Scandinavian food experiences out there. First of all, they keep it clean and the atmosphere is fun and very Swedish/Scandinavian. I'm half Swedish and I love it. They have lots of seating available, for everything from just going out to breakfast with your significant other, to hosting a business meeting for many people. The food is so good. Swedish pancakes are obviously the meal of choice here (they even offer a gluten free variety if that's more your speed) and what they're most known for, but there are so many other choices for any palate here, even burgers. The Kroppkakor is another favorite of mine and one you may not have heard of before. It's a Swedish meal that's essentially a potato ball with meat inside of it. It might sound weird but I dare you to try it, it's so good and different. Add lingonberries for a very authentic experience. Pro tip: their orange juice is homemade & freshly-squeezed. You can see the juice machine they use in the back of the restaurant. Highly recommend this place and always look forward to coming here!

Yelp
This is my second time coming here I just moved into town from of state my wife loves the pancakes and lingonberry Jam cool, I decided to get a burger this time I got the Ultimate Breakfast Burger and added bacon to it with a side of ranch my server Melinda asked me if I wanted Hash browns or American Fries I said the latte, I was confused when I got my order because they were thinly sliced last time I had came here I got the swedish meatballs which came with two sides that I chose which was French fries and hash browns, so that's why I'm so upset with this visit and the burger was super dry like I'm still very much hungry and like the ranch photo had to Douse my burger in ranch so it wasn't so bland and dry ..... Never coming back horrible food stick to only pancakes or the Swedish Woodcutter ... Learned a lesson never again now I'm leaving here still hungry and just extremely disappointed my date and time on the receipt is 9:15 10/05/2024 here in Rockford,IL the server was rude as well and it just wasn't a great atmosphere nor a great experience when confronting the team about my order they gave me no compensation and ridiculed me and laughed about me multiple times.

Michael Y.

Yelp
The Stockholm Inn was an okay spot for breakfast this morning. I cannot complain about the food except their biscuits are a little expensive but you can tell they're frozen store bought biscuits. The service is fine however, I wish someone would've come by to check on my table more often. There is one thing that made me give 3 stars and it's the bathrooms. The women's bathroom is nicely decorated and very neat, while the men's bathroom is simply a bathroom. The women's bathroom is like Disney World and it's much nicer. If the men's bathroom was just as nice I wouldn't mind giving this place 4 stars, but that really did it for me.

Carl C.

Yelp
Great food and the swedish pancakes are the best in the Midwest. The take home swedish baked goods in the gift shop are great. 5 star. Ratting.

Pamela P.

Yelp
They have amazing food with a chill atmosphere will definitely recommend them to family and friends
google avatar

Mark W.

Yelp
Crepes were great. Atmosphere definitely reminds me of my grandma but can't complain.
google avatar

Veronica B.

Yelp
Pea soup was delicious! Friday special was just ok. Huervos rancheros was just ok. Service was awful. Who was our server? No clue!
google avatar

Kin C.

Yelp
We always go there for breakfast when we are in Rockford. Just note that the Buffett is only on the weekend. But orders from the menu are good too.
google avatar

Vera E.

Yelp
Best Swedish pancakes!! Skorpa is perfect. Their Butter.. omg yes! Been going here since I was a baby! The crepcroker is perfectly done (its a Swedish dish not American might have to be acquired taste) The soups are great the meatballs and lingonberries great! The breakfast buffet is so delicious!! The coffee hits the spot. This place is the bomb for breakfast mostly!
google avatar

Corey S.

Yelp
You know how when you get an omelette at some places and they throw some of those precooked bacon bits into two eggs and call it a day? Not this place. Their omelettes are packed to the brim with bacon, sausage, cheese or whatever else you want. It's why we come here every Sunday. They also have a buffet for $13, which I enjoy when I'm feeling glutinous. Pro tip: get American fries instead of hash browns for your side. The hash browns are okay but the fries are REALLY good.

Lamont P.

Yelp
Don't come here please. The service wasn't too bad. It did take over ten minutes to get some coffee- but other than that the service was really good. Waitress was polite and prompt. Coffee was watery but drinkable and the waitress refilled the water constantly. But oh my the food was borderline rancid. I had the Swedish sausage filled potato- ( I should have taken a pic of the menu bc I'm not going to spell it right but it's under Swedish specialties and starts with a k- needs a vowel ) lol. Anyway. The sausage just tasted off- I didn't notice it until I had a big piece of the sausage. But as you see firm the pic I wasn't able to eat much after I had the big piece. I also had the Swedish meatballs I ordered five and I think I ate three- overall- dry- mushy- and just bad. The meat also just tasted off. Idk if it was the seasoning but I have been to several Swedish places and also have been to Sweden. Lol. But never had Swedish meatballs in Sweden- a lot of the food had a middle eastern tint to it. Anyway. I'm sure you didn't come here for that. The other meal was the tater tot skillet. Gravy didn't have any seasoning- sausage again tasted off and it was generally disappointing. Generally left as hungry as we came so one star- unfortunately.

Cindy H.

Yelp
Food is great. Service is always very excellent when I go. Everyone is very friendly from when you walk in and are seated. Usually a person brings water and they are always nice. Then you are asked by the waitress or waiter if you want something else to drink besides water which of course someone might. But honestly I am never really to order when the waitress asks. But they are pleasant and come back. I don't believe I have ever had a bad experience with anything there. I just went there for the Thanksgiving buffet and WOW it was amazing.

Phyllis F.

Yelp
What happened? I've been to the Stockholm Inn a number of times through the years. It's my favorite restaurant in Rockford, mainly because it's ethnic food is so good. But this time the workers acted like they were irritated to be waiting on us. No pleasant smiles or cheery or even nice voices. It set a tone that was unsettling. As always the place is very clean and nicely decorated. And the food is great. But it was the tone of those waitresses that stirred me to write a not so pleasant review. It was uncalled for and made me embarrassed about bragging to my friend about what a great place it was.
google avatar

Jim D.

Yelp
Food was good breakfast food with Swedish pancakes with everything.. service was fast with a team of waitress's. And the place hasn't changed in 40 years that I can remember.

Cheryse R.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant and we drive 1.5 hours to eat here. Introduced to us by our friends, the Haraldsens, friends of one of the original owners, they lived in the old Norwegian neighborhood near the restaurants. My favorites are the open faced hot turkey sandwich, the bread pudding and of course the Swedish pancakes with tons of lingonberry. Try the lingonberry tea and lemonade also!

Monica W.

Yelp
Very nice place, friendly people, & great food, with quite a variety to choose from! Always happy with my experiences there!

Enza D.

Yelp
Swedish pancakes are delicious. coffee is awful. hostesses and waitress look like they're going to workout. they wear workout pants to work? what happened to the nicely dressed hostesses and waitresses? coffee cups are mismatched and always stained. what happened? I'm so disappointed.
google avatar

Tina B.

Yelp
Have been going to this place my entire life. Their Swedish pancakes are something from my childhood. Went back there this summer with my family and they did not disappoint. We did go during the summer and also on the weekend so we had the breakfast buffet. The selection was delicious. The temperature inside where we sat was a bit uncomfortable so that was the one downside that day. Service was good as always and even when they were busy we got seated quickly.

Van G.

Yelp
I ordered their standard Swedish pancake and my daughter ordered their Mickey Mouse pancake. Both items were fantastic! My husband ordered the monte Cristo and there was no powdered sugar or preserves which I thought was served with every Monte cristo but maybe not here. The orange juice is freshly squeezed and tasted amazing!!!
google avatar

Jordan H.

Yelp
First things first, this place does NOT treat Stockholm syndrome! After we managed to arrange for the escape of our son from the doomsday cult where he spent the last 2 1/2 years, we were eager to undo his brainwashing by bringing him to what we THOUGHT was a mental deprogrammer. So you can imagine our surprise when we walked into a restaurant! Thankfully, since Sean (AKA Brother Shamongomongo) was so malnourished, the restaurant's lingonberry short stack platter quickly sedated him and we were able to seek help immediately after our delicious breakfast!

Yelp
A long connection to the roots of this Rockford Iconic and Historic fine restaurant. A must for travelers and residents alike. What liked about my visit this week was a favorite breakfast which is Eggs Benedict Florentine. This meal as delicious as ever. The generous helping of Spinach was to my liking. My dining partner a regular particular guest about her service was pleased, too. She loved your pancakes. In my history of dining here stop just for your Swedish Pancakes. This week's visit unique was the outdoor dining tables. Stretched across the whole front of the restaurant and more. As a vulnerable senior with no health issues, still apprehensive about indoor dining. The managers and city have addressed this with ample amount of outdoor dining. The weather can be a factor, today wasn't an issue at all. Thank You Stockholm Inn. Was here late morning a couple days ago. Please allow staff recommendations, The daily specials or an ethnic cuisine is a must when you dine here. As far as basics go, that is well covered here. Especially loved my own mini pot of Coffee. A big thanks to Vickie, our server. The food was on point, service outstanding, cleanliness evident and tastes on point as in the past with you. Will be back again and again.

John M.

Yelp
Great service and authentic Swedish food not found very often. Scandinavian gifts and takeaway pastries are also nicely displayed and easy to purchase near the checkout area for treats at home or to give to friends.
google avatar

Shelly S.

Yelp
Swedish pancakes. Get 'em. That is all you need to know. Go there specifically for the Swedish pancakes and get the Swedish pancakes.
google avatar

Kim G.

Yelp
Had the worst experience there today. Poor management will Never go back! Extremely rude diner sitting behind us and when we asked her to lower her voice she started swearing at us. The unprofessional manager did nothing to make her quiet down and to us to leave. The booth behind her also asked her to calm down she did not and they left also!
google avatar

Shadow R.

Yelp
Meh, honestly it's okay I suppose. Seems a little old though. And the outfits look like Mormons should be wearing them.

Lauren M.

Yelp
Sad to say, worst Thanksgiving buffet 2023. No turkey, some sides tasteless. Never again.
google avatar

Claire O.

Yelp
Had a delicious Swedish meatball lunch here! My food came with two sides (mashed potatoes and lingonberry jello) and a cardamom roll. When I asked our server what sort of flavor is cardamom, she just said "delicious" so I just went with that and tried it. It's like a cinnamon roll without frosting. Yummy! If you're in the Rockford area, give this place a try. The food is great and they have a cute little gift shop too.
google avatar

Tricia T.

Yelp
Absolutely hands down the best Swedish pancakes! We tried all the international items with my favorite of cabbage rolls.
google avatar

Lorraine H.

Yelp
Very disappointed with the staff. Downright surly. Food and atmosphere nice but the unfriendly wait staff spoiled the birthday celebration.
google avatar

Lisa P.

Yelp
I know this place has received awards for the best breakfast, but I don't understand why. Mediocre food and I Have yet to get my food hot. Too many other places to get good food
google avatar

Mackenzie M.

Yelp
If i could eat their Swedish pancakes every single day and not be 600 lbs, i would. They are unlike anything else, or anywhere else. I would love to tell you about the other food, but i literally get the same thing every time i come because it is that good! The food comes out within minutes of ordering it. Staff is always so prompt. I recently tried their special cheesy breakfest potatoes and they did not disappoint! They offer a breakfast/ brunch buffet that is the bomb. Anything you could possibly think of they offer- just on Sundays. They are perfect for large groups or just you! The decor makes you feel like your in a Swedish getaway ! Good for breakfest and lunch. Perfect spot for your brunch needs !

Cindy P.

Yelp
I've never been here before, but guessing some reviews are right! I called to make a reservation for our group of people and was put on hold. No one has picked up. I purposely have it on speaker phone and am doing other things, but my time is currently at 42 minutes. This is a joke, but I want to tell them what I think if they ever pick up! Definitely will not be visiting this NOT SO FINE establishment!
