I had a truly wonderful stay at Stockton Inn! The experience was simple yet elegant, with a perfect blend of modern amenities and historic charm. The recent renovations were clearly done with great care—everything feels fresh and luxurious while preserving the Inn’s timeless character. What really stood out, though, was the exceptional service from the staff. They went above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable and memorable. I highly recommend Stockton Inn for anyone looking for a charming, well-appointed getaway with outstanding service!

Absolutely this place has picked up the concept of the old Stockton inn! Wow! We had no reservation, came in on a whim, and this was a fundamentally amazing experience. Apps were delectable, our entrees… don’t even get me started on how good they were, and than desert was the icing on the cake! Service was quite good. The only issue I have with this place, is perhaps the issues getting decent parking? Overall, I highly recommend this place!

The two worst meals I have struggled to eat came from the Stockton Inn. On my birthday last October an indigestible hanger steak, chokeworthy. They didn’t charge. Tonight, a so called smash burger. Simply disgusting. Swimming in fat. Couldn’t swallow it. Had it put in a doggy bag which I wouldn’t have given my dog. It went in the trash.

Beautiful venue - if you'd been to the Stockton Inn when it was open years ago, they've done a complete overhaul. The food was delicious, server was good (not great). A little on the pricey side but perfect for an occasional visit. We'll be back!

I have very happy memories of my visits. To this Stockton Inn . The little hotel with the wishing well. Thirty or more years ago when my late husband and I would manage. To get away for the weekend, we would always head for the Stockton Inn.. We always stayed in the room above the bar in the main house. We loved it. We Usually ate dinner in the restaurant and breakfast the next morning too. Depending On weather, sometimes we’d eat outdoors on patio with umbrellas tables and chairs. The ambience inside was very romantic with fireplace in restaurant. The food was Delicious and featured interesting and different cuisines. If I was able to I would go back again but Perhaps I’ll send an offspring there to take some pictures to show me and spend a Nite. Till then I’ll just keep dreaming of the Wishing Well Hotel..

My husband and I, booked a room here for a “staycation” to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary—and it exceeded all our expectations. From check-in to checkout, every moment was seamless. Our room was stunning: beautifully designed, immaculately clean, and filled with thoughtful details that made it feel both calming and inviting. We appreciated the convenient text notification when our seats were ready for dinner. Dining at the tavern bar was a highlight of the evening—the service was prompt, attentive, and genuinely friendly, while the food was truly five-star quality. Overall, this stay was nothing short of perfection, and we’re already looking forward to planning our next visit.

The Stockton Inn exceeded every expectation with its seamless blend of luxury, refinement, and comfort. From the thoughtfully designed spaces to the impeccable service, every detail felt carefully curated to create an unforgettable experience. The rooms are as cozy as they are elegant, and the dining options showcase a level of craftsmanship that speaks to the heart. Whether you’re looking to relax or indulge, the Stockton Inn delivers with grace and thoughtfulness. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a refined yet welcoming retreat.

Excellent remodel of the old building. Becky and Tim provided five star service. Atmosphere is beautiful, food was delicious (portions possibly too large) I'm sure service from food runners will improve over time, dishes coming out quickly while we were still enjoying appetizers. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Let's start off with a long wait at the bar to get a drink where one bar tender is supposed to service all the customers there and the diners' drinks as well that were brought in by the waiters. Bar tender does not even acknowledge you until you have to question if you're even noticed, which I know better not to do at any bar. This, folks is on a Saturday night. Wife had a martini served in some sort of champagne/margarita glass which wa a tad odd. Dinner was OK but not really worth the wait or price. The seafood "paella" consisted of 4 shrimp, 1/2 dozen muscles and was served with couscous instead of rice in a small portion inappropriate for the title of said dish. The couscous did nothing to absorb the greasy base and the lack of bread to compliment any absorption didn't help. I do not think that I'll return to the dinner side. Having said that, the bar side food looked decent and may make it a mid-day stop in the summer.

Yelp
10 of us for dinner in the restaurant. First of all, the food was delicious albeit expensive. Between 6 and 9 on Saturday night, the place was actually kind of empty. 10 people had all sorts of entrees and appetizers including the antipasto board and people just raved. So why three stars? We noticed lobster rolls and wanted to order 4 or 6 of them for appetizers. Alas, we ere told that they are on the bar menu and can't be served in the restaurant. So we asked for the manger who was a delightful young lady but she also took the company line. The owner was not around. Pretty dang shocking that would not serve what we wanted. I mean, we were ten people. Use your own judgement. Not very customer friendly. Expensive but good food in the bar and the place is really beautiful.

Yelp
Really wanted to have a great experience. We saw the review in the NY Times and wanted to give it a try. But ... Sadly it was pretty poor. The service was frankly horrendous. We waited 20 minutes at the bar for a drink. Only one bartender working on a Saturday night leaves me to believe that owner/manager is an idiot. The hostesses were very confused and incapable of determining whether our table was ready. We ended up eating at the bar and I had the seafood soup and the Shepards pie. The soup was minuscule and tasteless but the shepherds pie, while also minuscule, was very tasty. My wife had the chicory salad that was also tiny but she liked it. She also had the braised shortrib turnover off the pub menu. She loved it. But the horrible service and tiny entrees will keep us away for at least a year. And we eat out twice a week in Hunterdon county. But it won't be here and I wouldn't recommend to anyone else either. The management of this place is incompetent.

Yelp
My parents (who are in their 70's) asked my girlfriend and I to meet them at the Stockton Inn for dinner. I had never been there before. My parents have been there several times over the past 35 years and had not been in several years but are big fans of the place. My girlfriend lives in the area and has been there for dinner and events over the past decade. Everyone said it was a great place with a great garden patio. I was excited to try it. I feel like I should be splitting my review into the food, the restaurant itself, and the service to put my review in context... Food: For a first course I ate the corn bisque and my entree was the scallops. Both were incredible. I was really surprised at how good the food was. Even in the New Hope/Lambertville vicinity where there is a lot of great food my meal was special. Everyone raved about their food. Dessert was great too. Facilities/Atmosphere: The inn is an old and beautiful building. It feels rustic and comfortable - it is really cool. It was a nice day in the high 80's with relatively low humidity for July - we sat on the patio at 6:30 pm - somehow it was cool and comfortable in front of the waterfall on the patio. Indoor dining rooms looked great. Bar was small but rustic and hip. Service: I am not a difficult guest - I like a nice place but with professional service but am generally more comfortable in a more casual and bohemian place. I waited tables in some diners and in high school and a really casual hippie bar at UD... I am not nit-picky at any place I go and I never complain... My parents and my girlfriend are also pretty laid back. Everyone was shocked at the service. It was not that there was a lack of staff or that anyone was rude, it was just disorganized and uncharacteristic of a place that was over$100 per person with tip. It was really simple stuff that any casual restaurant would get right. First, we had someone come introduce themselves as our waiter when we first sat down - young kid, maybe in high school. He took our drink order and then disappeared... We waited a while for our drinks and then waited quite a while longer for someone to come back - it was someone else who introduced themselves as our waiter. This was a bit of foreshadowing of how the service was going to be. Every time the food came to the table they would drop a plate in front of someone - it was always in the wrong position - they would have 2 or 3 people with our 4 plates and they would confidently place them in front of the wrong person and as we went to trade them they all tried to help or grab something - it was like a three stooges routine. I'll assume that this is due to our server not understanding the system they have for managing it or that our chairs were off position or something... After the first round of drinks and apps we were chuckling about it - it happened with entrees and dessert too... Also, with the appetizer and dessert courses they did not bring spoons for soups or desserts and we sat and waited at each course with our food in front of us waiting for spoons. Not like 20 seconds - for a few minutes. My father asked for salt and pepper when his fillet arrived - he gave up waiting for it - when the waiter arrived with the pepper mill and salt grinder more than 5 minutes later my father was already well into his entree. When we ordered coffee and dessert we waited a while for dessert - when it came we waited long enough that we forgot we had ordered coffee - which came a few minutes later as we were half way through dessert. There was no cream delivered with it - we were done with dessert by the time it got there. While we waited between courses I would look around at the more demanding clientele trying to make eye contact with staff - there was a couple next to us who seemed agitated... I was wondering why they were annoyed - I thought they were waiting for their meal - they had been there a while - when someone finally came by to help them they asked for menus. I think the issue is the management - staff was friendly and tried, but the entire process was somehow fundamentally, almost comically wrong and I did not get the impression that it was their fault. My guess is that the the wait staff is younger and less experienced because it is not a place more experienced people would want to work (let me make the exception of the hostess who was friendly and seemed to be helping make sure things that were not getting to the table got there). Overall: So - the point of my insanely long comment on the service was this - the service was this bad and I still have to give the place 4 stars. The food was incredible. I hope someone from the place (like the woman who seemed to be managing the place - always wandering the floor asking how things were as something arrived but somehow MIA when we needed anything) reads this before her kitchen goes to work somewhere with proper service.

Yelp
A beautiful old hotel with great history. Unfortunately, the service is lousy and the food is worse. Service - take a bunch of high school kids who are so bad at waiting table that their parents don't let them clear the dishes at home - now go down a notch. Food - sounds good on the menu. Maybe it was tasty when it was first cooked earlier in the day. After a few hours in the warming oven - it lost its edge. I'm being too nice - the food was over cooked and under seasoned. Best part of the meal was driving away.

Yelp
DISCLAIMER: I've only gone to the Stockton Inn for drinks, so this review is only about the bar. My husband and I live right down the street from the Stockton Inn and love going there for drinks, especially in the warmer months when you can sit out back in the garden area which is at first glance kind of cheesy (with a huge waterfall that everyone always trys to figure out if it is real or man-made) but grows on you fast. The bartenders serve good-sized drinks and are worth getting to know -- they all are very knowledgeable about liquors and have introduced many great bourbons and scotches to us. We went their with a few people from our wedding party at Prallsville Mill and had a great time sitting out at the sidewalk tables and celebrating. Even the bartenders joined in a little. We both prefer the Stockton Inn to most bars in the area, for the quiet but fun atmosphere and the great liquor selections.

Yelp
My wife and I had not been to the Stockton Inn for years; we had not been impressed. But we were driving out to Hunterdon County today and the wife suggested giving it another try. There were new owners after all. The place is a bit prettier but I am still not happy with the food or the service. Service was haphazard at best. It took much too long to get the dessert menu. The bill was wrong but corrected promptly. Food was nothing special. The Caesar salad was OK; house salad was poor. Salmon was good, pork tenderloin was poor. It is very hard to screw up pork tenderloin but they did. The restaurant was busy at lunch so some people like it. They had some interesting brews on tap; stay safe and order a burger and a beer.

Joanne H.

Yelp
We had dinner there this evening, the waitress was very sweet. I should stop now. Our entire party of six were each disappointed in our meal. First they were out of Halibut, Salmon and pork tenderloin; three of their six entrees. The chicken pot pie had very little chicken and had a heavy lemon taste. The chicken capresse had cold mozzarella and the chicken was dry. The lobster mac & cheese had a piece of lobster. The she crab was bland and unflavorful. We were there to celebrate my daughter's 25th Birthday, sorry!!!! The Inn is historic and quaint, the patio is nice for dining; if we ever go back we'll try the burger.

Yelp
Had a 7:30 reservation. Was told the wait was 15 mins for a table. Went to the bar, got drinks, sat in one the outdoor waiting areas. An hour and a half later, we left after seeing them seat people that were there behind us. Very disappointing.
google avatar

David F.

Yelp
It's sad to see how this former standout restaurant has gone completely downhill since the new owners took over. We had brunch here for Mother's Day and were disappointed to discover the buffet would not be offered. We felt this should have been shared when the reservation was made. The food was very disappointing. Our two orders of mussels were returned because of the strong fishy smell and bad aftertaste; it was either a bad batch or simply not fresh. Fortunately, we weren't charged. The prime rib was a poor cut, very fatty, undercooked and overpriced at $28. My wife ordered the lobster roll which was fine but not worth $20. It was actually served in the dining room with a small bag of potato chips. Service was OK. Excuses were offered for sub-par food. The staff appeared annoyed at times. In the past, the Stockton Inn was so popular it was difficult to get a reservation on Mother's Day. It spoke volumes today when we arrived (and left) to an empty restaurant. We won't be returning.

Yelp
Went to Stockton Inn on a beautiful summer Sunday around 4:00. Were looking for a beautiful setting for drinks and nibblies. It was surprisingly busy for a pre-dinner crowd and we went inside to the host station to see if we could sit at the outdoor area by the waterfall for a drink. Literally waited 10 minutes for a hostess to appear. During that time we wandered into the bar to ask if a host was on duty and got an indifferent shrug of the shoulder and a "maybe she went to the bathroom" response. Turns out she was going to get a gift cert for someone, but apparently that takes 10 minutes in a remote part of the restaurant. When it was finally our turn, she took a phone reservation and made us wait another couple of minutes - apparently the caller was more important than the people who had made the trip already. We were seated at a beautiful waterfall-side table. The restaurant setting is storybook, and much bigger than you would expect from the front. However, we waited 20 minutes to even see a service person who might take our order. We asked a restaurant server if anyone was working in our outdoor bar area and she said she would find someone, but no one came. Keep in mind, we have now been here for 30 minutes without anyone taking a simple drink order. We finally ordered and...you guessed it...at least 10 minutes passed by before the 3 drinks were delivered. 40 minutes from arrival to first sip. There seemed to be one person acting as bartender/waitress for the entire area, which was about 30 seats. We were hungry so ordered bar food. Portions were small, but everything was good. The Sambucca shrimp was a universal favorite. The ahi was well-received, as was the stew. I had the salmon and it wa a good, though small, portion. I was hungry when we left, but it was advertised as a "small plate" and not full meal. The setting is wonderful, the food good, but the service! My bottom was sore from sitting on a metal chair for 2 hours just to get a drink and snack! Too long!

Yelp
Had Mother's Day brunch out on the porch. Service was incredible slow. By the time our food finally came out, it was lukewarm at best. I ordered the sausage gravy and biscuit -- the gravy had almost solidified. It came with two eggs which I ordered over easy and they arrived fully cooked. In short: everything is described beautifully on the menu but doesn't live up to the description. Great dining environment and ambiance -- if the food held up, it'd be perfect.

Yelp
Wow, don't go out of your way. No one even head nods when you enter the tavern. Thank god the turkey club was still on the menu. Will never go there again. Waiter who delivered our meal was friendly.

Yelp
I chose to take my wife to the Stocton Inn, a place that I've passed many times. We were greated warmly and given a window seat near the fireplace, which was great ambiance on Valentines day. We each had a nice glass of wine, a roll, and shared a calamari appetizer, which was very good. After that there was an extremely long gap of time, no food, and no visit from our waitress. Our food finally arrived over an hour after we first sat down. My wife and I shared a filet platter with spinach and roasted fingerling potatoes. Potatoes were hot, the beef was not. In fact, it was not even warm. It was disappointing to say the least. Although cold, the beef did taste wonderful. If it had been hot, my review would have been 4-5 stars. Overall an ok experience. Will try again at some point, but would not tolerate cold food again.

Heather G.

Yelp
Mother's Day buffet was terrible. The selection was very limited, yet it was expensive. Eggs were reconstituted. The sausage was low quality. The vegetables were a clearly frozen, then microwaved mix. We were really disappointed. There were no salt nor pepper shakers on our table. We weren't offered water with our drinks. Bacon was thin, greasy and stuck together -- think Waffle House. There were no beef options, no omelet station, no carving station, no seafood....it's a beautiful location. I wouldn't waste my money. I eat better at Cravings (the ice cream shop with lunch offerings down the street).

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE SO MUCH I HAVE CHOSEN IT FOR MY WEDDING VENUE!!!!!!! Sandy is so nice and helpful and the food and the patio space are fantastic!!!!!!!
google avatar

Barbara B.

Yelp
Overpriced for entrees that were appetizer size. Very limited menu that needed to be translated by server. ( Red Hawk Mezzalune- who knew that would be half-moon ravioli that ended up being half- filled and 6 of them swimming in peas and pea puree!) The trout came out looking like a piece of salmon ( thanks to the internet, apparently it was a salmon trout. Again, who would expect that in this area? Would have been nice if the menu indicated that!) Carrot cake- don't expect more than two small squares of cake, swimming in orange puree and a teaspoon of frosting. Service was excellent, but if I could give no stars, I would. Not worth the money.

Yelp
I had a chance to go down memory lane when I visited the Stockton Inn. My parents took us there for special occasions in my youth. I always remember it bring special. 30 years later, while the setting was still amazing, the food was just ok. It lacked flair in both taste and presentation. Not worth the money spent.

Yelp
YUM! Had a great dinner on a Friday evening outside near the waterfall. The covered outside patio area is fantastic with the waterfall and lights. The service was very good and the food was great. The crab and lobster bisque was EXCELLENT. Great flavor and lots of crab. The french onion soup was also very good, albeit a little on the sweet side. But both soups had LOTS of flavor and went great with the warm rolls. The scallops entree was DELICIOUS. Perfectly pan seared scallops with mushroom risotto. Tender, juicy and full of flavor - the sauce was great. We also had fish and chips, a hamburger, and shepherds pie. No desserts. Total bill came to $130 which included three drinks. The all male wait staff was excellent. Polite, respectful, and left us alone to enjoy our time outside and eat our meal at our pace. Three things that I particularly liked about the service was: 1. As the waiter recited the daily specials he also told us the PRICE of each. How refreshing! 2. Even though the food was brought to the table by someone else, nobody EVER asked who got which dish. They simply put it in front of the correct person. 3. No one cleared any dishes until we were ALL DONE. Overall a very good experience and I will be back.

Yelp
The original "small hotel with a wishing well". Nice service and food (we never stayed there - and I'm not even sure that you can any more. We had a lovely summer's lunch here. BIG salads. They also do weddings. We considered having ours here, but did not.
google avatar

Joseph C.

Yelp
We sat outside next to the waterfall. That was lovely. We started with the spinach salad. The greens were nice and fresh, the walnuts were delicious and the goat's cheese subtle (my preference), the dressing however was not so great. I moved on the cheesesteak sandwich. The sandwich was just the right size and everything was perfectly cooked. The fries came limp and cold. Service was reasonably fast, but me would expect that with 5 other customers. Overall, a positive dining experience.

Yelp
I expected a lot more from the Stockton Inn. I had seen help wanted signs posted there a few weeks ago and should have waited until they hired help before visiting. The menu is completely different under the new owners - mainly tapas style appetizers. The homemade biscuits were excellent and the appetizers were good. Lobster fritters were excellent but pricey at $19. I asked for water several times and it never arrived. We ordered ice cream for dessert but when it still wasn't delivered after 20 minutes we asked for the check. How long does it take to scoop ice cream? The restaurant was only about a quarter full so I can't imagine what it would be like if they had a crowd. For this restaurant succeed, I think they need to hire additional staff and add some more dinners to their dinner menu.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Probably one of the worst meals that I've ever had and that includes the before dinner cocktail (which was sent back for a redo). The vegetarian entree had mushroom that was as dry as dirt, it was almost turkey jerkey. Atmosphere is lovely, service was spotty at best. I do not recommend.
google avatar

Richie L.

Yelp
Honestly I love their food, it's an absolute beautiful historic building in gorgeous town. I've been there on a few separate occasions and I always seem to have a problem with the people that work there. I called in for reservations to sit outside, which they said that wouldn't be a problem. I showed up and not only was it empty but we then got placed in a corner with little room. I went there again an hour before closing to grab a quick bite and they said there kitchen was closed as the waitress was bringing out food. If they got better management everything would be perfect.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent restaurant! Food and service was very very good. Outside seating area overlooking waterfall alongside a bopping hippo adds the perfect touch. We ordered a NY Strip which was made to perfection and a Chilean Sea Bass which was excellent. Definitely will come back. By the way, the staff was also very friendly and all over the little details.
google avatar

Yelp
I am glad to hear that this place is closing. The owners are such assholes. There is no way that they can expand on any of the buildings. Won't gat what they are asking for it.

Yelp
We love the Stockton Inn. The food and service have gotten better and better, so it's become one of our go to places for holidays and special occasions. During nice weather, eating outside is a lovely experience.

Yelp
Fairly confused about the negative reviews. We stumbled upon The Stockton Inn at the end of a day trip to New Hope and Lambertville which are both lovely villages but more crowded and bustling for the peaceful dinner we had in mind. We stopped because we saw a few tables out on Main Street, figured we would have a beer and maybe some pub food. We were mistaken - the menu is sophisticated but not overwhelming and the staff like that as well. We enjoyed a seafood bouillabaisse, pork belly and a salad and then, though we rarely go for dessert, a lavender ice cream treat that I am still thinking of. We had no idea about the NYT rating until just now when I read the Yelp reviews - we had been commenting that the restaurant needed such review. I look forward to seeing this special place's rich future unfold.

Yelp
I've driven past The Stockton Inn for...literally...decades, and always wanted to try the place, so when my SO asked where I would like to go for my birthday dinner, this is the place that I selected, and I am happy to say that I made a good decision. The staffers were all friendly and solicitous, from the cheery hostess, to the busboy, to our terrific waitress, Sam. The décor--especially for a history nut like me--was warm and inviting. And, then there was the food, which I would have to place in the category of one of the 2 or 3 best meals that I've ever had. We both had Cream of Broccoli soup and it was excellent. Another restaurant whose Cream of Broccoli soup I reviewed a few months ago (hint: It's located in Clinton) could take a huge lesson from the Stockton Inn's chef regarding how to properly prepare Cream of Broccoli soup! The soup was served with a Parmesan Crisp, which accented the soup nicely, and we also received house-made biscuits which were very good. The salmon--a VERY thick hunk of fish--was cooked perfectly, with the exterior being slightly browned in order to bring out the flavor, but with the interior being just a tad undercooked (the way that I like it) in order to preserve its moistness. Without question, this was one of the best fish dishes that I have ever eaten. Accompanying the salmon was a cake of potato hash, which was also very pleasant, and a small mound of lightly sautéed Swiss Chard. Again, excellent, all-around. We shared a chocolate tart with raspberry sorbet for dessert, and this dish was also very good. The only disappointment was the coffee, which wasn't bad, but certainly did not rise to the category of "good". Without question, the coffee should have been stronger. All-in-all, we had a very pleasant evening, and our server, Sam, helped to make it very special. We will be returning, probably for my SO's birthday in a few months.

Yelp
Great locale lots of promise and many $ put in renovations... Place is on an upward tilt..but food is inadequate on even veterinary standards... Waited 30 minutes for bar food.. Chicken "tenders" were dry shriveled and prehistoric

Yelp
So we are locals. Five minutes up the road. This our first time visiting since new ownership. Service is slow at best. Unfortunately, we will never visit again. Menu is set in stone, no accommodations made. Down to the pine nuts. Wanted a nice salad, but chef doesn't do simple nice salads. Food sub standard. We can't wait till the other inn opens again up the street.

Jill G.

Yelp
My husband and I went here to have a nice dinner out. The atmosphere was very nice and the food was very tasty. However, I ordered a salad and it was TINY. We are talking two bites of salad. I actually asked the waiter for more lettuce (something I never do) and he brought me a piece of endive cut into three. It was comical and my husband and I actually laughed out loud. The waiter was borderline rude in general.

Chris M.

Yelp
After having the worst service the last two times we visited, we thought we would give the Stockton Inn one last try Saturday night. The hostess took 1/2 hour to seat us where it was empty. We decided we wanted a light menu and was told only in the bar , that was fine. Four people at the bar and could not get service. Stockton inn, hire a second bartender on a Saturday night to serve the restaurant . After 20 minutes watching the bartender make drinks for the waitresses, we left. A shame, great atmosphere but the service is so lacking that we will not be back. Place is too expense to put up with bad service .

Yelp
This once used to be a nice spot for a romantic dinner or a special occasion. But now I have to ask; Is it ever open? And the things I do hear are not very complementary.....
google avatar

Yelp
The food was great but for the price at least put something on my plate. Price of food is way down from where it's been they should reflect it on the menu or give you more. Service was excellent.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I have been here two other times. The first time was great we had their lobster dip. Our second visit they changed owners and no longer had the lobster dip. The third and probably last visit we had crap dip which was terrible and some flatbread. It was not very good and not to mention the waitress kept bragging to a customer. We will not be back.

Yelp
This is a very old inn in a small town on the Delaware river, away from the more crowded tourist areas of Lambertville NJ or New Hope PA. From the appearance of this old, elegant establishment (and the fact that they had valet parking), one would have expected a great dining experience. We found this not to be the case. We ordered white wine, and it came out to our table at room temperature (after being in the ice bucket for a while, it was OK). The bread consisted of two very small rolls, neatly wrapped in a napkin -- don't know why they bothered covering them, since they weren't warm. The salads were nice and large, but skimpy on the dressing. While the main course seemed fancy when one reads the menu, the food was just a little better than what one would get at an ordinary restaurant. The dessert was a real disappointment. I ordered a flourless chocolate cake, expecting something very rich and chocolately. I got a cake, all right, but one that had no real chocolate flavor and lots of filler of some sort -- maybe it wasn't flour but it might have well have been. My wife ordered a sorbet, and it had the consistency of an old snowbank by the road in the early spring (probably partly thawed and refrozen many times). The fact that the place was mostly empty on a Saturday night should have tipped us off. Note: the location shown on the map is wrong.

Yelp
Dear Stockton Inn, If this is what you're calling new or fresh...you've got a long way to go. When attempting to rebrand yourself as a fine dining establishment...placed on the map among a number of exceptional restaurants that are both time-proven and customer-focused...the last thing that you should choose to do is ignore the pleas of customers that are looking to help you succeed. I'm also writing this up as an online review because you have chosen to ignore and not reply to multiple emails to you on the below topic. Note to the reader: Emails are the only way to communicate with this establishment...as there's NO POSSIBLE WAY TO LEAVE THEM A VOICE MESSAGE...because they don't monitor their one phone line for messages (which...by the way...is a complete absurdity for any restaurant that is attempting to re-brand themselves as a fine dining establishment). Multiple phone calls over the last days...during their alleged opening hours also dropped me into the automated message system...in which they explain that they don't take messages. I was hopeful that I'd receive a phone call from the General Manager or from the Owner in response to my multiple emails...all regarding the experience that we had at the Stockton Inn, where we dined on a 5:45pm reservation for New Year's Eve. While most of the dinner was acceptable (not good...most certainly not excellent), we both ordered the "Black Forest Trifle" as the fourth course of a prix fixe holiday menu. We chose this dessert after specifically asking our server how it was composed...if it was fresh...and if it was good. Our server's response indicated strongly that he was familiar with the dessert...that it was fresh...and that it was "very, very good." When we received the 'recently-barely-thawed-then-unwrapped-hastily-with-a-glop-of-whipped-cream-and-a-maraschino-cherry-thrown-on-top' mess that was your Black Forest Trifle...we took one bite and had our meal experience...and our palettes...crushed. The white top layer of that dish tasted so much like chap stick (yes, chap stick)....it was SO off from any normal food texture that I I've ever tasted in my life...that I actually suggested that the server have the chef taste the food (which I NEVER do). Indeed, the server returned to our table...highly apologetic after tasting the food himself (no idea if it was presented to the chef at all)...and explained that "yes, something tasted very 'off' about the dish...that it normally wasn't like that." Then I asked for the check...after the server kindly attempted to serve us another pair of desserts. To my surprise, the bill identified no tangible reduction in price for our meals. No, I hadn't specifically asked for such a reduction...but it was most certainly expected. Not a lot...but something. No...we were charged the full $85pp for what amounted to three small courses of just-over-mediocre food...with a $67 bottle of wine...for a total of $273.92 before tip. With another $44.08 as a tip, those two horrendous Black Forest Trifle experiences cost me $328.00. Yes, that's the only flavor that we left with on our palettes...and yes...that's the only part of the experience that will be stuck in our memories when we reflect on whether or not we should return to the Stockton Inn. A real shame. We will not be back...and I would recommend a number of places very close in proximity to Stockton for anyone to try before this one. I felt it appropriate to tip my server as I would normally do despite what I've written above...because I don't believe that the servers are to blame when the kitchen doesn't serve good food...I do not feel that the staff at the restaurant last night handled the situation at all appropriately. Yes, I notified the front desk of the issue. When I described the issue to the maitre d', I took all precaution to be discrete...as there were other customers/victims waiting in close proximity. Again, no recourse was offered. No solution identified. No proactive action taken. Just a curt "enjoy the rest of your night." So I'm now writing this up as a review...because the complete lack of response to my multiple emails should be the clearest indication of this establishment's lack of care or interest to make things right for their patrons....and others considering dining here should know what to expect. Good luck Stockton Inn...I hope you find your way...and I hope that you find an owner that actually cares about what the customers of this area have come to expect to receive for their hard-earned money.

Yelp
We decided to visit the Inn for a brunch on Father's day. We had not been there in a while and were pleased when we were seated at a very nice table on the patio next the waterfall. We were surprised that only a couple of these outside tables were occupied on such a beautiful day. We placed our order for 3 omelets and sat back to enjoy our brunch. As we enjoyed our coffee and conversation we were unaware that 30 minutes had passed before our breakfast arrived. In retrospect, time would never have been an issue if the initial order was correct. But that was not the case. The waiter immediately realized the error, apologized and returned to the kitchen. We assumed that this problem could be quickly remedied because, honestly, how long does it take to make an omelet. Unfortunately, it took another 30 minutes before the corrected order would be ready. After this wait the final product was below average. The omelets were small, the bacon was limp and the potatoes cold. We asked to speak to the manager and even the wait for this became comical. The waiter actually came over twice to inform us of the imminent visit from his manager. When the manager finally arrived she had the waiter in tow, she forgave the check, apologized for the experience, and proceeded to fault the waiter for all the service issues. This made for a very uncomfortable exchange as the waiter was standing at her side. It was reminiscent of the days when your parents were called to your school so your teacher could explaining your latest exploit while you were forced to stand there and listen. Maybe this is just a weird Catholic School memory that I have. Anyway, go for drinks, enjoy the patio, don't expect much, leave happy.

Yelp
I definitely went in with high expectations and was moderately impressed. The menu selections were decent for brunch and sitting outside in front of the building was just okay. It's a major intersection for traffic so unless you don't mind noise, it is a nice view of the main drag in Stockton. I think I need to go back again for another visit, maybe for a different meal and sit inside or out back. The food was good, service okay. Our waiter was hard to get a hold off for a coffee refill let alone anything else. We waited longer than I expected for our order. We sat next to a family that either had someone who used to work there or had friends who worked there because they received a ton of attention compared to the service we got. I think that's what put me off the most.

Yelp
While the Stockton Inn has many possibilities, it falls short & shoots itself in the foot. We have visited only to eat at the outdoor bar/grill/restaurant. A very charming & wonderful place by concept BUT to follow are the issues: 1) the bar staff acts as the wait staff. Ok if the bar isn't crowded, you'll get served. If the bar is crowded, you will go hungry & thirsty for quite some time. 2) the band/trio takes up VERY valuable space that should hold more tables. 3)while on tables - there are only like maybe 6 that service the bar/grill. 4) grill nights are dependent on whether there is an event, wedding or party in the outdoor space. You could conceivably drive up there to find you are SOOL (sh-it out of luck). SO CALL CALL AHEAD!!! 5)the band/trio starts at 7pm on grill nights. Forgetting the fact that these guys are leftovers from Woodstock, should you get a table, you won't be able to converse with your dinner partner due to the trios volume. I could go on but you get the idea. Get with it Stockton Inn!!! Pissing people off who go out of their way to get to your out-of-the-way location is not good business and not the way to keep yourself in business. Good luck!!!

Yelp
Beautiful place on a beautiful plot in a beautiful town. But the food was mediocre at best (not especially flavorful, not prepared especially well, not hot, not presented well), and the service also was not good -- not mean or intentionally inattentive or anything, just not good (mostly high school kids from the looks of it). This was New Year's Eve, for what it's worth, so maybe our expectations were too high. But I don't really think that's it -- this didn't strike me as a place where the chefs and wait staff (and ultimately, the owners) are particularly concerned with their guests having a particularly nice experience. In any event, I came here growing up, under the former ownership -- we won't be returning unless something big changes.

Yelp
The Stockton Inn has recently changed their menu to consist of only very specific gourmet dishes making it hard to choose something for a casual dinner out. Would not recommend unless you enjoy things like bacon wrapped rabbit with lobster foam

Yelp
Friday night. 8pm. Place was at 10% occupancy. Ordered the 1710 burger MR. came out so overdone it resembled a hockey puck. The portion of fries on the plates were so different. I had a couple while my daughter had a large pile. Simple things that reflected very poorly on this place. It is a shame as this is one of the prettiest locations around. Bill was over $100 and I had 1 beer.

Yelp
I was shockingly surprised how POOR our experience was at this establishment. Reservation for party of 4 for 8pm. My wife and I do a lot of fine dining, and this did not represent any attribute associated with fine dining. We value service as important as the food itself. This place does not stress that with their staff. We have never left a place before the meal, this was a first. The other couple was in complete agreement. - The host, waiter, and employees all showed no interest in providing good service, - The bar did not know how to make any drink look appealing - the menu stated that you had to ask for bread, unheard of. - When we decided to go to another restaurant after 1st drink, no one seemed to care we were leaving early or get our concerns addressed. - the dining room was half full. Yet we were seated at the least desirable table in place. - when we asked for bread, we were each served what looked like a half of a hot dog roll that was cold and dry. - the menu states absolutely no substitutions due to their ability to serve other guests, very odd. After leaving, we went across the bridge to the CENTER BRIDGE INN. Had an INCREDiBLE dinner and experience. Highly recommend you go there instead.

Yelp
After reading the reviews I was a bit surprised. Maybe I got lucky because I ordered the specials (Chili and stuffed shells) Yes, a seemingly disgusting combination that was absolutely delicious and satisfying...

Yelp
I like coming here mainly for the atmosphere - the back garden area is very peaceful and beautiful while the front is great for people watching (especially on weekends when there are lots of people at Stockton market). I recommend sticking to appetizers and drinks though - the entree's aren't that great.

Yelp
We were recently there for my grandparent's 59th anniversary and we had a blast. We went on a Wednesday, where they have a jazz duo (piano and guitar) and great food. We stuck to the sit-down dinner area, though I noticed they had a separate bar area. They had some good specials at great prices, and their standard menu was delicious. The wine selection was good, and the red and white we got were great. We met the owner, who was very friendly and even offered a room for free in case one of the guests was not in a condition to drive. I would highly recommend this place, specially on Wednesday since the music was amazing.
