We just happened to stop in here because we couldn't find a place that was open after 4 in that area. The food was really good. They had a okay gluten free selection, but they are a cash a restaurant.

**CASH ONLY** – Just a heads-up, this wasn’t clearly posted anywhere that I saw, so I want to make sure it’s the first thing you notice. I visited this spot because I’m a big fan of *Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives* with Guy Fieri, and I was excited to try it out. The restaurant has a cool, laid-back vibe with both indoor and outdoor seating, and the outdoor area is dog-friendly, which is a nice bonus. We started with the honey hot baked wings. They had a great flavor and were fall-off-the-bone tender. That said, I wouldn’t call them “jumbo” as described on the menu—they seemed more average in size. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan, which was a bit disappointing. It resembled more of a chicken patty topped with sauce and cheese, rather than a traditional cutlet that fills the plate. The sauce was runny and on the sweeter side—not really my thing, though that’s on me for not reading the menu more closely. The entrée only comes with *either* linguine marinara *or* a vegetable side, not both, which feels a bit stingy for the price. My girlfriend ordered the Eggplant Rigatoni, which was advertised as spicy but really wasn’t. The portion size was also smaller than expected. I guess we went in with high hopes—I was expecting more of a “Nonna’s kitchen in South Philly” kind of experience. Overall, the ambiance was nice, but the food didn’t quite live up to the hype.

Google
Loved the food and the kind and attentive staff. A cute little dive bar with inside and outside seating. Their freshly made pierogies were delicious, especially with the fondue sauce that usually accompanies the potato wedges. The Mac n cheese came in a light, buttery sauce, and the linguini with crab gravy was not at all what I expected. Their crab gravy is very simple to a Maryland blue crab soup, as a flavorful and not acidic red sauce. We came in for a late lunch, and they were only moderately busy. Would definitely return to give their cocktails and pizza a try. Important to note that this bar is CASH ONLY, and there’s no signs until you get your bill. ATM is available with a $2+ surcharge.

What can I say? The food was amazing muscles in white, I don't eat gluten so I basically drank the juice! The salmon was amazing, the mixed vegetables were so delicious with a surprise sprinkle of lentils omg yum! Got to see an old friend in there and the server, I wish I caught her name she was super friendly and funny. All the other staff were great as well. This was like my 3rd time there why don't I go more often is my only question. I love having one on one dinners with my mom, we have the best conversations it's just a whole treat 💜

Google
First time here and can't wait to come back. The food was awesome. We got the chicken parm and it was the best I've ever had. Also got their Pizza 🍕 The pizza sauce is out of this world. The crust not too thick. Not too thin. It was perfect. We met some people on our Italy trip several years back and became friends with them. They were coming to Philly for a weekend and we met them there. Great atmosphere! Great time. Great place to have food. Really enjoyed it a lot

Google
We enjoyed the restaurant and the servers were pretty attentive. Our group had a large meatball sandwich that was tasty. The pizza is good but different, lots of sauce and much less cheese. The cheese steak Stromboli was also very good. I did not like having to pay for a refill of my Diet Coke, especially when they did not say anything. As someone who loves their soda, the food was good but not so amazing I can’t pass on the place the next time i go out, and go somewhere else with a refill.

Google
Great Food, Great Service, Great Vibes!! It's a cozy spot with indoor and outdoor seating. The food is fantastic and the service is superb! Did I mention they have live music while you are enjoying your food and drinks! The pizza is square, and the sauce is on top... but it is one of the best pies I have tried. The gnocchi was out of this world. It was soft and packed with flavor from the sauce!! Make sure you stop by for some of the best italian food in the city! Oh, and bring cash! They are cash only, but have atm on site. Enjoy!!

Google
We sat in the smaller room with the fireplace, it was cold out. Loved the eggplant pizza square! Just the right amount of sauce, flavor and crispness. My daughter had the hamburger with cheese and bacon, her favorite when we go to Stogie Joe's. My daughter also had 2 old fashions, which she loves from there. Had to order the potato spears, love them. This tume we tried the sausage app. Had the sweet one, pretty good. Next time we will try the hot ones. Can't go wrong with anything there! I've had the 1/2 chicken many times, one of my favorites.

Yelp
In Philly for the weekend and we stopped here for late night dinner. Such a fun spot and great service! The crab fries were excellent, the pasta special with mussels, clams and clams had great seafood and a delicious white wine sauce. And the pizza was amazing! Reminded me of NEPA style in some ways. Cash only but so worth it!!!!

Yelp
Stogie Joe's Tavern is a great place with that neighborhood joint ambiance and vibe along with a friendly staff and equally friendly customers. The food here is good in that neighborhood joint type way and if you are familiar with places like this, going here is as much as a habit as a craving. I was here with a few friends and it was definitely a great place to come visit after being away from Philadelphia for quite awhile.

Yelp
Great family owned establishment, food and drinks are great. Their crab gravy is amazing. Their mussels in white wine sauce is my favorite

Yelp
The ambience and music are very good. The waiter took my order very fast, which I appreciate. Food came out in 30 minutes though, but the food was pretty good.

Yelp
I've been here before. Years ago I went and loved the chicken parm and pizza. Took my parents back and the Parm was not good. So anyway ...fast forward many years and just went back recently with my niece. Ate outside nice atmosphere. Server was attentive. Bucket of rolling rocks were good and cheap. My niece had a meatball sandwich which she said was good and potato wedges which were good. We had a bizarre version of clams casino which they serve without the shell...inside little tins. Weird and Stouffers-like and very disappointing. I mean, I was really expecting a real clam casino that I could enjoy with a beer. I also had a cauliflower crust pizza with sausage and that was really good. So hit or miss.

Anthony M.

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere. I am out all of the time and I've never in all the places that I frequent, did I ever encounter such a great waitress named Diane. Exceptional personality, extremely friendly and very pretty. Every restaurant would be very smart to hire people like her.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious and fun place. The linguini with crab gravy is next level good. And the pierogi ....wow! Some of the best ever. Very unique menu in a fun area. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Went here on Sunday 7/28/24 for the first time. We ordered a small Caesar salad, mussels in red, French onion soup, and a pizza - all the food was good. The service on the other hand, was inattentive at best. Multiple times our server looked at our table with empty water and did not come over to check on if we wanted refills. We had to flag someone down to take order, flag someone down to ask a question, and had to remind our server about a drink that she forgot to bring to the table. It was unfortunate that the service was so sub par or else I would recommend this place to others.

Yelp
Last Friday April 15th was a beautiful spring day on Passyunk Avenue. My son was hungry and wanted a burger. My wife and I saw Stogie Joe's Tavern it looked welcoming so we gave it a try. The place isn't very big but I liked the the decor. The have sit down tables, decent music playing and a nice sit down bar. The place was a little more than half full but they had 3 waitress and a waiter (I feel he was an owner or manager). We placed our drink orders. I got a Long Island Iced Tea it was very good, my wife a Basil Mojito she said it was also very good, my son got a Shirley Temple, was there every a bad Shirley Temple? Of course not, he loved it. My son order a plain cheese burger with american cheese, my wife got the bacon cheese burger with fried onions. I saw they had Linguine with Crab Gravy and had to have it. We also ordered clams casino and a house salad that was very good. It had romaine, cucumbers, rosted peppers, sharp provolone, olives and Salami (small was big enough for 2) The entrees came but we had not gotten our clams casino or had our table received any bread or grated cheese, we did have hot pepper, which for me is a necessity when having Crab Gravy. Having ordered Linguine with Crab Gravy I expected and need bread to make sure I didn't leave any Crab Gravy in the bowl. My wife and son really enjoyed their burgers and lucky for me (as usual) my wife couldn't finish hers. I finished it for her, the burger was very good it had a nice grilled taste which I prefer over fried. My Linguine with Crab Gravy was very good but the portion was small for $19.95. Usually Pasta dishes are plentiful, a pound of Linguine is less than $2.00 in a grocery store and the fact that nothing came with the Linguine but the Crab Gravy, I was expecting a big portion. Like I said the Gravy was tasty just would have liked more for $19.95. The bread was good but the butter was cold and hard to spread. Not a big deal I just like when restaurants keep the butter at room temperature for easy spreading. The reason I give Stogie Joe's a 3 and not a 4 star is because the clams casino and the overall service. First we didn't get the clams casino till after our entrees and they are not on the shell. They are more breding and salt, they lack clams, bacon and peppers. If I had known they were not fresh clams on the shell I would not have ordered them. Stogie Joe's to us seemed like they are more friendly towards regular patrons than to people off the street as we where. I can't say they were rude but they weren't very attentive. My wife and I got our drinks right away but they forgot my son's drink and I had remind them, took awhile between drink order and taking our dinner order, had to ask for bread and grated cheese. No one asked us during or after how we enjoyed our meals. Look, it's South Philly so I wasn't expecting over the top friendly and I have had a lot worse service. Just would have been a better experience to have felt more welcomed and slightly faster service. All that being said I would recommend you give them a try because as far as food and drinks we enjoyed everything with the exception of the clams casino. Also, you may have a different experience with the friendliness and attentiveness of the service than we did. Ourselves, I would go again and order extra Gravy next time!

Yelp
This place is an institution in the area . The food is good, and you will never leave hungry. Peroni on tap and square pizza that reminds you of high school. I'm a fan.
google avatar

Joe S.

Yelp
I've always wanted to try this spot but always would pass by since I already ate from somewhere else while in area. Forced myself to come in after eating Stargazy lol and went with the crab gravy which came out fairly quickly. Wasn't a huge portion and I do wish there was a little more crab but this was a good this to try at least once if in area
google avatar

Ann V.

Yelp
Food here wasn't the best I've ever had but I'd definitely return as the staff was very friendly and the food does hit the spot. I ordered the crab spaghetti and my husband and son shared a pizza. Everything came out so quickly that you could still feel the heat from the stove! Monday night is apparently quizzo night but even though we weren't competing, it was to try to guess the answers as the MC announced the questions. Only minor minus is that it's cash only but they do have an ATM on premise.
google avatar

Ally S.

Yelp
Got the eggplant parm pizza. So goood!!! Small was enough to feed two plus left overs. Pat at the bar was friendly and helpful. A great stop!!
google avatar

Yelp
Terrible service. Cesar salad and pizza was great though. Most likely will not be back

Yelp
Nice little spot for lunch or dinner in South Philly. Came here for a work lunch and was treated well by the staff and the food was a solid - portion and flavor wise. It's pretty easy to find and seems to be a neighborhood favorite. Upon entry, we were greeted and were readily led towards the back to our seats. I liked that they were able to accommodate our large group without a reservation. We were all served water quickly and placed our orders soon after. I got the house salad and they were able to move a few ingredients out and put others in to make it vegetarian friendly. The food came out fast and ready to eat! The atmosphere is relaxed and casual and can see this as a nice happy hour spot after work or a place to meet up for drinks. Parking in the area is tight but can be found in the surrounding streets. We had taken a walk from work as it was a decent afternoon so not too bad to get to on site. Enjoy your time!

Alexis C.

Yelp
My go to spot before sporting events! I've always been seated quickly and the service is usually pretty good too. The pizzas are all very tasty!
google avatar

Jeannie S.

Yelp
Good pasta dishes! But it's not amazing... we also thought their pizza was okay. I just couldn't understand why they're cash only and still charge a bit more than we expected. Maybe it's because we felt like the vibes gave a more bar feeling? Either way, I would think I'd like this place more if I had different expectations! Probably a great place if you intend to come for good beer and some dinner. They're usually pretty packed on weekends.
google avatar

Bert B.

Yelp
Food was authentic South Philly. Great sandwiches, pizza was old school and salads was huge. Cocktails were healthy. Service was prompt, consistent and friendly. Sat in the area with garage doors, great view, cool vibe watching the street. Owner stopped by and was quite nice.

Anthony I.

Yelp
Two words.. T o m a t o P i e!! I get mine with minced garlic. One of the best iin town. Tell them Izzo sent you.
google avatar

Yelp
In town for a medical appointment, stopped in. Had drinks, their fried mozzarella wedges with their own marina. Very flavorful. My friend had a burger which he seemed to enjoy. I had the chicken parm sandwich which I requested open face. It was served on ciabatta bread. Once again their breading, the chicken and sauce was awesome. We're planning to go back to try more of their food! Nice place.

Bridget H.

Yelp
Loved stogie joes for a quick lunch today - got the ravioli which was incredible and a sausage sandwich. Service was friendly & fast which was much appreciated.
google avatar

Julia S.

Yelp
The food was fine. The chili dry rub was pretty good. Most of the patrons seemed to be regulars. We sat at the bar tender and she was friendly, nice and attentive. Their was a man who seemed to worked there but was not working that day who came in and started drinking and making homophobic and transphobic comments. We will not be back.
google avatar

Mariellen E.

Yelp
Another Diners DriveIns and Dives spot in the books! We stopped here for lunch after a hike in Wissahickon. We really enjoy the East Passyunk area and how Stogie Joes has the garage door opening on the front so you can enjoy the street view without having to eat outside and be on the sidewalk with people walking right up on your table. We ordered the cheese pizza and Buffalo wings and I loved both. My husband did not like the pizza as much. It's a square pizza so not your typical NY style. The crust is thin and crusty and the sauce is on top. Overall, it's a solid place to try when in the area and it's Guy Fieri approved
google avatar

Melissa G.

Yelp
I love their house salad, their sausage bites and their pizza is amazing. The services is great and the restaurant just feels like home with the music playing. Everybody's in a good mood.
google avatar

Leydiana S.

Yelp
The staff at this restaurant is the most attentive staff I've ever seen at a restaurant before. They all work as a team and get things done so quickly. Our table never had an empty glass or an empty dish during the entire time we were there. They were welcoming, knowledgeable, and none of them looked overwhelmed. The food was good. The Buffalo wings were my favorite, they were very well seasoned and the Buffalo sauce had the perfect amount of spice. The pizza in my opinion could've used a little more flavor on the crust. The crab gravy pasta was good too. I didn't really like the loaded fries, they were too soggy for my taste. The bourbon sunshine cocktail was really good!!
google avatar

Madge F.

Yelp
Wonderful food! Very good salads, ciders and mussels. I also enjoy their Quizzo night.
google avatar

Lexa S.

Yelp
Service- Good attentive service Food- The food was really yummy, the noodles well cooked and shrimp decent size. Was sad the french onion soup was a beef broth but I understand that seems to be standard many places. My only reason for 4 stars was that when I take into consideration the price-portion-and taste I would have liked it to either fill me up a tad more or been a tad more memorable tasting. Regardless, all the food was very good and I'd reccommend everything in my pictures show . Atmosphere- I quite enjoyed sitting outside under the tent with all the heaters, it was cozy and toasty.

Yelp
This is the spot for a delicious and fun evening on Passyunk! I hadn't stopped in before because it looked a little dark inside. But since Covid added much more outside seating, it made it much more appealing. We walked around Passyunk on a Friday night at 8 pm with a party of 6. Mission impossible. But they kindly sat us and made accommodations to our two tables beside one another since they can ***only sit four people maximum at a time at a table. Our server Natalie was a doll! She was very attentive and very punctual! We had everything we needed! The mozzarella and tomato sauce pizza (like a tomato pie w Mozz) is DELICIOUS. Served hot and mouth watering. We ate it UP. And the 10 year old didn't miss a bite! I ordered the Ferrano Sweet Pepper sandwich and it was really really amazing. Great temperature and generous portion sizes! The hummus platter was beautiful! The hummus could have had more flavor but they put more veggies in the center and they had delicious flavor on top. Everything was so delicious and we left so happy and eager to return! Thank you!!

Yelp
A South Philadelphia great has fallen. What once was a primo spot for Italian cuisine is now a mess. This place should be renamed Sleepy Joe's because of their sleepy service and lousy food quality. When we asked our waiter why service was so slow, they said their kitchen was backed up. But the restaurant was near empty! Let's talk about the pizza. We got an eggplant and soppressata. Each slice was so inconsistent with how cooked it was. The only positive was that there were plenty of toppings. Ultimately, that's what made me confident that it was the food at Sleepy Joe's that made me sick later that day. Or maybe it was the two warm Stellas they served me? Either way, half of what came up was soppressata. The other half eggplant. My partner had the pasta, which looked luckily for her was crusty and overcooked. I should have just stayed away from this place altogether. Anyone with more than a one star review has been longing for Sleepy Stogie Joe's glory days. Sad to say they are long gone. For the love of Italian cuisine, go elsewhere. There are so many better Italian restaurants in South Philly. Ristorante Pesto and Le Virtu to name a few within walking distance.
google avatar

Joe S.

Yelp
Saw this place on tv and wife wanted to try it. It wasn't too busy and even parking wasn't too bad for a place that was just featured on a cooking show. $35 for crab pasta and a Stromboli isn't too bad I guess... except the pasta didn't really have all that much crab in it. Maybe it was an error or something, but the Stromboli was good. It had unique ingredients and was good quality, not really like the standard pizzeria version.
google avatar

Lilly B.

Yelp
This is my first time at stogie Joe's and I had a good time! The outdoor seating was a little bit too close for me but I was able to get a table in the farthest corner of their outside tent. The heater was lit as soon as I sat down! I ordered the Caesar salad with added shrimp. Everything was very tasty and refreshing. I also liked that I had a choice of a small or large salad. The pierogies were so good! You can't get them everywhere so it was fun to have them on the menu. I can't wait to go back and try some pizza!
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
An establishment with a great bar and food, Stogie Joe's is a South Philly staple and a must go! The atmosphere is very exciting and the staff are very friendly and always around to help you. I enjoy the music that is played and some days there is live music, which is exceptional. For the food, all options are great. Definitely order the mussels in white or red sauce. Probably the best i've ever had. There is also an amazing square pizza that everyone must try. There is nothing like it anywhere else. Overall a great experience and would go back anytime!
google avatar

Drew H.

Yelp
Stogies is a staple. Large pepperoni and house salad has never disappointed. If you eat there you can get a pint of Guinness or lager on tap, but I've been getting them delivered and it always beats the projected delivery time.
google avatar

Thomas I.

Yelp
We had the Stromboli the Stogie Joe's Stromboli amazing flavor fresh good, we had two drinks both .... update they used one of my photos for their feature I am humbled but shiitt Stogi Joe better hook a bro up with a beer next time a brotha in Philly lol.

Hootergirl M.

Yelp
Amazing place! The food is always outstanding! We often bring newbies here and they love it. The best salad ever, meatballs, pizza, Stromboli, etc. nothing is bad here. Great service also
google avatar

Gloria E.

Yelp
The place is cozy- loud and bustling but also the tables are comfortable and you're able to talk at a regular volume. Came on a really busy night, which might have contributed to my experience. I got a coke, expecting refills, and when they filled up my glass, I assumed it was free. At the end, after filling myself up on the assumed free glasses, the bill reflected the full price. Confused, we asked the waitress who was partially sympathetic, but not enough to take off all of the refills. The food itself was really good, fast, and worth every penny, and the trivia was fun. The fullness of the restaurant did make the wait staff a little less pleasant and helpful throughout the night, but I think the next time I'm here when it's not restaurant week or super busy, it will be a great time!
google avatar

Steve L.

Yelp
I came here because I saw the restaurant on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. My wife and I ordered the exact menu items that were shown on the show. The food was awful as well as the service. Worst meal and experience I've had in Philadelphia.
google avatar

Scott V.

Yelp
Reminder that this place only takes cash. Good vibe walking in. Menu has many options from pizza, sandwiches and pasta. I had the linguini pasta with tomato basil sauce. Added some sausage on top for a few dollars. Delicious meal, great service and a good selection of bars on tap. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Jordan B.

Yelp
Got lunch here with my friends after walking down Passyunk to see what was open. After looking at the menu we decided that we wanted pizza and wings. They were both pretty okay, but I did think that $2 per topping on a large pizza was a little steep; however, I didn't mind paying a little extra, especially if it means supporting a local business. I did enjoy the thiness of the crust, and it was interesting to eat a pizza prepared upside down (cheese first, the sauce on top.) I just feel like the sauce could've used a a little more flavor. I would try Stogie Joe's again, but I will try something different on my next visit.

Sandy L.

Yelp
Menu looked great but unfortunately no one acknowledged us and we happened to read "cash only" on the menu. What kind of place is still functioning as cash only in 2023?? Staff was rude and could care less whether or not we stayed. Will not be returning.
google avatar

BH B.

Yelp
Stopped by Stogie Joe's on a friends recommendation, and it didn't disappoint. My friend and I split a tomato pie (South Philly style, no cheese) and added basil and garlic. Tomato pies really show off a places pizza skills as they can't hide behind a mound of cheese, and Stogie Joe's sauce is on point, slightly sweet, tangy, with a little bit of a kick. The garlic and basil were fresh, and the crust thin but airy. Good stuff.
google avatar

Regg H.

Yelp
Good food, nice outdoor patio. Had the Crab Gravy I liked portion could have been larger but hey what are you gonna do. Wings were good. The only hiccup was they didn't tell us it was cash only upfront. Had to run around the corner to use the ATM. Other than that a very hip spot.
google avatar

Michele Y.

Yelp
The best pizza around. Their wings, chicken cutlet sandwich, house salad, pasta, and soups are all amazing. The bartender makes GREAT drinks. The staff and service are excellent. This is a must-go Philly restaurant!
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
All I had was a beer & the service was fine but this is one of those places that nickels and dimes their customers with ATM fees by not accepting credit cards. Unethical? Behind the times? Decide for yourself but I probably won't be back.
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
Stogie Joe's has become a fixture on the foodie nirvana thoroughfare known as Passyunk Avenue in South Philly. It offers more casual and lower priced options than many of its famous neighbors. Well if you've got any Philly cred you know that August is def Crab Gravy Season in town. This is something to look forward to every year. And Stogie Joe's comes in with a tasty and affordable Crab Gravy with Linguine. Yes I would like a little more crabbiness (if that's a word in English) in Stogie Joe's version and I have tasted some better crab gravies (also more expensive) but the Crab Gravy with Linguine that I took out the other day hit the spot at a fair price. Keep Stogie Joe's in mind when Crab Gravy season happily rolls around again.
google avatar

Anna B.

Yelp
This place is terrible. The manager is rude and they can't get food out in a timely manner. Save yourself the headache and go eat somewhere else

Megan C.

Yelp
Just went there it's cash only I paid with a $100 bill and the bartender took it as an opportunity to give me $20 less back in change. Never apologized and knew what he was doing because he threw away the receipt before he gave me the change. I would be careful paying.
google avatar

Judy R.

Yelp
This place is awesome!!!! Best Stromboli and Pizza in town. Light and crispy dough wraps around the best ingredients you can buy. The sauce is true "gravy", not too thick or thin, not too much garlic; perfection. And it's FUN. If you have to wait, it's WORTH IT!!
