We stayed as a family of four at Stok Palace in the Queen’s Suite and another suite with balconies overlooking the village of Stok and the Leh valley for three nights. We had an extraordinary stay in a building built in the 1800s with decorations and interiors dating back to that time. Rinchen was our very attentive guide at the Palace for our three days where we were educated about the family, the history, the private Buddhist temple and museum as well as sampling Indian, Kashmiri and traditional Ladahki food for our evening meals: all served either in the traditional kitchen of the palace or in the very beautifully restored dining room. There is Wi-Fi for those that don’t want to switch off, but, just sitting on the terrace and being in the rooms was enough to make one draw deep breaths and then remind yourself you are in a Palace. We met the princess, back from school who was incredibly polite and confident and welcomed us to her family home. All of our excursions from the palace were seamlessly sorted by Rinchen and her team and we really did feel like Royals. The staff were amazing and could not do enough to help us. If you want to stay somewhere truly different and soak up the atmosphere of Ladakh from a different era then this place really is incredible. Well done to all the team. Please go and visit and stay with them.
