UPDATE: The stories don't line up - we called, asking to place a reservation and we were told that they do not take reservations yet twice now they've said that tables require a reservation. So why didn't you tell us that beforehand when we called? Also, their response includes no apology for how their treatment of our group appeared to us yet includes many excuses instead. I'm speechless. This is poor behavior being conducted by the owners of this establishment.
Where to even begin? First, let me start with how the woman manager treated my group of 8 people as it was just completely unacceptable.
Of these 8 people, all are Indian (as in born-in-India) except for me. Upon arriving, this woman ran out to greet us and immediately started telling us all these "rules", such as we can't use the tables, we had to use the outside restrooms on the other side of the lawn instead of the indoor ones, etc. We're all respectful people so we didn't think anything about this at first... UNTIL we noticed that she was not telling other groups of people these "rules", and these other groups happened to all have white people in them. This felt incredibly discriminatory which was shocking as our friends who live in Portland say they experience these types of things less up here than where they last lived.
Additionally, we called ahead and asked if we could reserve a table to which they told us no, "we don't take reservations here". But when we got there, the woman told us that we can't use the tables because "they are reserved". How is it possible that all of the picnic tables were reserved if you don't take reservations??? We noticed large groups of white people helping themselves to tables (without being escorted by a host nor did any of these tables have reserved signs on them by the way) and felt this to be very odd. Two of the guys in our group went to talk to the woman about getting a table and she reluctantly let us use one even though there were SO MANY open tables available at that time.
Our entire group did not appreciate the discriminatory attitude of this woman and her unwillingness to treat us like the other guests.
Then there was the $30 Cheeseboard that we ordered... Our friends who live in Portland have been to this winery before and raved about the lavish cheeseboard that they've had here, so imagine our horror when we received two little boxes stacked on top of each other. One box contained chunks (I mean CHUNKS - no slices, no cubes, just large chunks) of a few cheeses and the other box contained some crackers, olives, berries and a spread. See the photo that I posted for a better idea of what we received.
If I'm going to spend $30 on a cheeseboard at a winery who's main goal is to sell wine, I expect to receive cheese spread out on an actual BOARD. This was especially disappointing as our friends had a much better experience with ordering this same cheeseboard the last time they were here.
I don't recommend this place to anyone nor will I return when I come back to Portland. There are PLENTY more wineries to choose from and my advice is that you find a different one to visit.
