we took a glass blowing class here and made some really beautiful whiskey glasses. This was a really unique and fun experience!!! James and John were great teachers, we really recommend stopping by here! They took the time to really teach us the history and process of glass blowing in an enjoyable way, they also have a really beautiful gallery there too.

Signed up for this glass blowing class with my girlfriend. The gallery is amazing. It has the most unique art, made from glass. Class was limited to 2, and we had hands on experience in making an egg and flower in multi colors.John was amazing in showing us how to make our art. James is a "quirky" owner, who can do amazing things with glass and put up with all my questions. This is a hidden gem, that you should go to and learn how to work with glass

We visited Stone and Glass while visiting the area. This was the last activity in a whirl win, action pack week of SeaWorld and DisneyLand. Our experience was absolutely perfect and would highly recommend this to anyone. We had a private session with James and John. We made drinking glasses and a flared small jewelry bowl. Our daughter is 10 and was able to participate, which made the experience that much more memorable. She had a blast!!! James was great with her. Everyone at the studio made this an fantastic bucket list memory. Too bad we live so far away... I'd be visiting often. The Anderson's thank you for this once in a lifetime experience!!!!

I found out about this shop while looking for a glassblowing class, and as soon as I walked in I knew it was the right choice. You can honestly feel that everyone here loves what they do, and it reflects in their work and classes, and the classes are truly an experience. The owner and teacher, James, is extremely knowledgeable about not only the practice but the history and global influence as well. His expert guidance, with occasional assistance from his protoge Jon, will let you take home a beautiful custom piece. Just remember that you'll have to retrieve it the next day, ends up glass is hot!

Great experience, I've taken my daughter there on her birthday the last 2 years. James Stone is an inviting and informative artist. He has been very helpful in encouraging my daughter to pursue glassblowing

Awesome place! James, John and Carol were all super nice and accommodating. I booked a private party for 9 people to make ornaments and we had a fantastic time. Everyone was patient and helpful and we cannot wait to see how everything turned out. Well worth every penny and hope to be back in the future.

We've been to Stone and Glass many times and have loved each experience. We love the hands on approach offered through the classes, and it's awesome to take home something you've made. I would highly recommend this experience as it's fun for all ages. We have a six piece collection of drinkware now. They are durable and artistic and our friends always comment on how lovely they are.

My (now) fiancée booked a surprise session for us to make glass hearts, and the place was booked up far out. My fiancée later told me that Stone and Glass had no open spots, but they made one for us in the evening time so that she could propose to me! The owners were so nice and accepting of an LGBT couple....this is so meaningful to me. Our hearts came out so beautiful and I would take another class. Carol is so kind and she will greet you with her sweetheart of a dog, Esther, when you come in the door. Her husband can be stern when you take your first class, but it because you are working with heat over 2,000 degrees. If you get burned, you will need to go to the hospital, so they are super serious about safety. You have to wear your hair back in a pony tail, you need to wear sunscreen if you have light skin that burns easily, you need to wear long sleeves or sleeves that at least cover your shoulders, and you need to wear the eye goggles they provide all the time. It was a little stressful for me taking this class because I'm a worrisome person, lol, but when I saw how my glass heart came out, I was so excited and it felt worth the experience! Again, I want to deeply thank the owners and everyone working here for being so accepting and kind to my (now) fiancée and I; it was so special to be surprised with a heart making class for part of my proposal.

My husband has always been intrigued by glass blowing so I bought him a class for our anniversary. Amazing experience, very informative and we both acquired a whole new appreciation for this artwork. James and his assistant were on point with their safety instructions and education. Epic experience and would definitely recommend!!

Three months late posting this review. My daughter and I did the beginner glass blowing class with James and Jon. They were so patient and really made the class fun. The water glasses turned out nice. Carol and Esther, their dog, were so welcoming while we waited for our class to start. Might have to go back with my husband for another class. Definitely, recommend taking a class with them!

I have be interested and wanting to take a glass blowing class for several years. I finally was able to take a class at Stone and Glass and it did not disappoint. We were kindly greeted by Carol right away when we walked through the door. The class size was small and just included me and my friend. The class started with a safety briefing and safety materials were provided, we then had a choice of what type of drinking glass we wanted to make and a wide variety of colors to choose from. James and Jon were both very informative and provided lots of information throughout the whole class. Class was fun and a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend this class!

Well, it's been quite some time since I've been able to enjoy a creative, fun girls' night out (or felt compelled to write a yelp review!) In the tradition of wine-paint nights or taking your kiddos to pottery painting, let me highly recommend Stone and Glass for some glass blowing. Let's start with Covid: They took it seriously and were very respectful of the guidelines. Masks, temperature, small classes of people that know each other. Plus it opened in the back and there were huge fans and plenty of ventilation (to keep things cool from the furnace heat, but ends up being quite airy) Safety Generally: The owner/teacher took at least 10 minutes to explain all the safety rules. He did a wonderful job of scaring us just enough. Definitely not an environment where you want to drink heavily (keep it to a friendly glass or 2 - or have your friend-most-likely-to-drink-too-much go first). They gave detailed instructions/rules when you booked (hair tied back; covered toes; pants) and provided safety glasses, arm sleeves, sunblock, and water. As a site, it felt a bit like a crowded garage. So, there are tripping hazards -keep your eyes open. The teachers: We had 2 - the owner and an assistant. The owner was the kind of knowledgeable colorful character you want on a night like this. He's full of life, stories and a love for his art. He's definitely a throwback to the days of yore when men were a lot less PC - garage talk environment. In fairness, the 'blowing' jokes are just too easy not to make. His assistant was sweet, trustworthy, skilled. Making the art: Honestly they did most of the work. You pick the colors and design. This is a very difficult, dangerous art - we were there more as passive assistants. Your hands will be on the tools, but you're not doing the driving. But...you do get to do the blowing! It's tough! kind of like blowing into a stubborn birthday balloon. The finished product: Just like pottery painting, you need to pick it up later. Timing: You make your glass one at a time. And it takes ~30 minutes per person. So, with 5 of us, it was a long night (fine for me, but just be prepared). I'd say limit your party to 4 or 5.

Love Love Love Loved my intro to glassblowing today... I was supposed to go with my niece but she ended up not going so i got a solo private glassblowing class with James and John... Those are two cool dudes.. I JUST looked up some of James's stuff and i had no idea this man was so freekin talented!!! I just saw a handsome man with a nice beard! anyways, John's got a nice way about him.. real chill.. very informative .. you can see he loves what he does ... and boy does he have a great teacher !! I got to pick the colored and type of glass i wanted to use .. gather some glass on the rod, add colors, add to the glory hole, blow more, flatten, smooth, glory hole, blow, smooth, punty? the thing ... bam bam bam, using the jacks to snap off the piece and then more glory hole ... it was just so rad .. i loved everything about it!! and that's not even the best part ... The best part is the wonderful Carol... i felt like i knew her my whole life, she was welcoming and understanding and ... was just an absolute delightful way to start off my saturday ... I highly recommend taking a class !! I plan to take a few more ! thanks again!

Wife and I had a great time. This was our first time glass blowing and the instructors were awesome and very knowledgeable and have a passion for teaching. Definitely recommend

Our Intro to Glass Blowing workshop was a great way to learn how a red hot glob of glass gets transformed into a functional thing of beauty. Artist, James Stone, was our instructor for this 4-hour workshop, which is set in his Escondido studio. Our class size was small (6 participants) so everyone received personalized attention. We got to select the piece we wanted to make (stemless wine, tumbler or tall glass), and choose from a nice sized color palette. Then James walked each person through the steps. Note, while there was plenty opportunity for hands-on exposure, James was always in control for safety reasons and to ensure good results. I was surprised to find that blowing air into hot glass is not as easy as it looks. Overall, it was interesting and fun. And as a bonus, my son and I took home a pair of unique personalized tumblers to remind us of this cool art form. Logistics: James' studio is in the same building as his gallery, where you can view some of his work as well as view him "at work." Follow the directions in the email they send because Google maps will steer you wrong. Be prepared to pick up your piece another day because glass needs to cool down slowly or it will break.

Had an amazing experience! Carol, James and John went above and beyond to make sure our class was fantastic. When I first was walking in, it seemed to be very intimidating with the fire and all. The staff however walk you step by step through the process and provided lots of support throughout. This was my first glass blowing experience and definitely would love to come back here! Excited to check out our final project next week!

Class Of 11/28/2015 Glass Blowing At Its Finest. We decided to give a glass blowing class a try. It was very interesting and a learning experience. The instructors were very helpful and made it fun to learn. Safety is Very Important considering The extreme heat you must go through to blow glass. Safety Was First. It's something that takes time to learn but they do their best to help you understand each part you go through. Give it a try sometime.

I took my first class tonight with James. What an amazing experience! The staff there is professional with safety as their number one priority. James took the time to really connect with each of the people in his class to make the experience a very personal one-on-one time. Because I went with a group of friends, there was a small area where we were able to have some drinks and snacks while waiting for the others in our party to finish. (Bring your own food and drink, there's a small area in the front way you're able to interact and talk and drink and be merry) I will certainly be back in the future. Thank you James and staff for a wonderful experience.

For anyone looking to learn about glass blowing this is THE place to go! The owner and staff are incredibly friendly and happy to share their knowledge of glass blowing with you. We went here for my moms 60th birthday and everyone had a blast AND our pieces came out beautiful They did a great job walking us through every step, from selecting colors to heating and shaping. As you can see in our picture we each got to make something unique and personal.

Team building event for work. We all were treated to an inspirational lesson on glass blowing and creativity. We were guided safely through the process of making our own pieces and we had a blast. It was an amazing experience with extremely talented artists. Can't wait to go back for more! Perfect place to get unique artisan gifts too! Highly highly recommended. What are waiting for? Hands down, best gift I could've given my family. This was not only an enthralling, unique experience that will last a lifetime, but no one left empty-handed. I bought a private session as a Christmas gift for my family, but kept it as a surprise, all the way to the company's front door. I am grateful to say, everyone thoroughly enjoyed their experience... so much more than I could ever have imagined. My heart was so happy seeing their faces light up during the experience; and then again, when they saw their glasses for the first time a week later. We loved every moment. Not only that, but each glass we made was so very different than the others. My family loved that they were able to make and customize their own glass. Whenever we look at them, we are reminded of what a truly blessed experience we had together. We plan to incorporate our glasses into our weekly family nights. As an aside, I live minutes away from the Laguna Beach Sawdust Festival. For the last several years, I have looked into booking classes at Sawdust, but each time I had looked into their offerings, I was never impressed with what they had to offer. I've now been to Stone & Glass twice, and each time was an unforgettable experience. The owner, James Stone, truly makes the occasion an experience to remember. He's full of skill, talent, knowledge, stories, and lends a great perspective on an array of different subjects. He is sure to entertain the crowd with his personality alone, as well as lend a helping hand when needed. My family and I are already thinking about what we'd like to make next. We highly recommend Stone & Glass!

Carol, James and Jon made us feel like old friends. My young teen daughter attended a class and actually blew a glass. James treated her like family, giving her tons of info and Jon was so patient and helpful. They allowed her to really be involved in the process while maintaining her safety. They are so talented and were very patient with mom's million questions! This is the place to go if you're looking for beautifully crafted glass pieces or to take a glassblowing class! It is evident that they are doing this because they love it.

I was looking for a local glass artist to make several glass inserts for my jewelry boxes, so I tried this shop. I was greeted by a small dog that proceeded to attack my cocker. I put my dog in the car to get the contact information of the owner. He arrived as I was returning from the car, I said hello and proceeded to explain what I was looking for. His response of nah I don't do that seemed odd so I asked if he could make a square glass cup in the dimensions I needed, to which he asked me if I was sure I could afford to have him make them ? WTF

I love this place. They do wonderful work and are great to work with. An awesome place to have custom presents done. Also, if you ever get a chance to take a class do. It is so much harder then it looks.

Had a private lesson with John and James for me and my niece. It was her 11th birthday and she wanted to "create something with her own hands". I scheduled a lesson via email with their studio and from the moment we arrived they were so welcoming, professional and entertaining! My niece had a lovely time and I'm sure will talk about this birthday adventure for years to come. Special Thanks to the entire staff for making it so memorable.

I took my boyfriend to a class here to make our own beer glasses, and boy did we enjoy yourselves! James is a great teacher and you can see his passion for the art through his work and how he teaches. Safety is their number one priority and they explain the process from start to finish. James and his staff are so friendly and helpful, they walk you through every step and answer any questions you may have. It really makes you understand the work that goes into glass blown sculptures, its amazing actually! We both cannot wait to go back for another class. oh, and their 'guard dog' Esther is an added cherry on top, we love her!

We had an excellent family experience to celebrate the holidays we took a class were six of us got to take a glassblowing Christmas ornament class we had kids from the ages of 6 to 12 they were very good with them... One thing that I was worried about was safety but is it is absolutely paramount at this facility that it is safe but they still allow the kids to experience stuff that helps them enjoy their time. They a so nice and so kind it was a great experience !!

What a fun experience! Two adults and two teens in our party and we all had a blast making pumpkins/ghosts. Safety was the top priority and we all felt really well supported during our turns. Would highly recommend as a family or friend activity. Thanks for a great day James!

I would highly recommend the intro to glass blowing class. After watching Blown Away on Netflix with my wife, we wanted to learn more about glass blowing. We were definitely in the right place! James and John were both very personable, knowledgeable, and it is clear they are passionate about what they do. Before we started, we were able to select the style and colors of the piece we wanted to make. From there, they took the time to educate us on important safety protocols and answered our questions along with putting us at ease with some concerns we had. They even went into detail of explaining how the materials they use are safe and won't lead to lung disease secondary to inhaling certain particles. They provided guidance and had control of what was happening while allowing us to influence our piece throughout the process. Carol was very kind/ helpful when we showed up for our appointment. She also accommodated our schedule afterwards when we booked another private lesson for November!

I will be forever grateful to the folks at Stone and Glass. My 9-year-old daughter has been interested in glass blowing and I just randomly emailed them to ask if my daughter could meet a glassblower and see a working studio. The owners, Jack and Carol, along with one of their artists, welcomed us so warmly and genuinely. The experience was everything I could ask have asked for. After Carol answered my questions about running an art studio business, Jack gave this amazing history lesson about the first pieces of glass from thousands of years ago. Then he graciously showed us his current works in progress and explained how small pieces were made and the difference in torch work. The coup-de-grace was watching Jack and another artist work together on an actual piece they had been commissioned to create. Wow . . . from start to finish . . . just incredible to see. I have watched glass blown in Venice and it paled in comparison to this experience with Stone and Glass. I can't thank Jack enough. He took the time to look my daughter in the eye and teach her to shake hands. He spoke honestly about the passion and tribulations of glass blowing art. He told her to believe in herself and gave her life advice that I hope she tucks away in her soul for hard days ahead . . . I don't know how you thank someone for an experience like this, but, thank you, thank you, thank you!

We were going to be down in the area for the holidays, As I was planning our trip and looking what to do in the area . As we were going to get off a a cruise in the LA on the 23rd. I was looking some of the excursion program offered by our travel agent. I noticed a glass blowing . For over thirty years I been wanting a chance like this . I ended up calling Carol a wonderful person with Stone and Glass and booked a lesson for Dec 29. I had a wonderful time with James. For years I wanted to learn about glassblowing and dealing with glass. James is wonderful instructor that made me feel very comfortable . I wish I could spend more time there. I suggest that that anyone is going be near their location. To book a lesson. If I could stay long . I be there taking more lessons.

Where do I begin? These guys are really special.. they will show you a good time making some really cool sculptures out of glass! The owners James and Carol make you feel comfortable and right at home. I definitely recommend this place to students, 1st time daters, just hanging out and want to try something new, company field trips, etc. Thanks again guys for awesome fun times!!:)

The staff is truly passionate in what they do and you can tell that by how they pour so much into the equipment to provide and make quality glass pieces. I had the best time! Yesterday was my first class at Stone and Glass. James, his wife Carol, and crew were the best. When first walked into this very hot, working, shop I was a bit intimidated by the amazing art, the talented staff and the HEAT. After a few seconds talking to James and Carol it was like hanging out with old friends. The first order of business is safety at the shop. After James went over how to not get cooked, some history, and some great stories, it was on to glass blowing. Wow it's hot! But, it's also one of the coolest things I've done, and I can't wait to go back for another class. Thanks again my new friends at Stone and Glass! Mike

The hubs and i went yesterday for the Intro to Glass Blowing class and had a great time. There were two couples there and the instructor led each person through the process of making a beautiful water glass. Since neither of us had any experience with doing this, it was great to have both the experts there to help us make something that we created actually turn out beautifully. The timing, touch and eye needed to make a piece actually work seems very specific and I don't know if a piece would have come out OK if not for them. I am really happy with how things went. Our instructor and owner of the studio, James is an connective character who is interested in sharing this art and his beautiful perspective with the world. The conversation is cosmic and warm and you'll find a friend in him. The world could use more of his warmth. In all, the whole experience really opened my eyes to appreciate how much of an art it is to make custom glass pieces and I'd definitely go again.

My mom, sisters and I recently completed a class here and it was remarkable. The hands on experience was over the top. Much more than we expected. We actually participated in every step of manipulating the glass into a piece of art. James and his assistant David were professional, calm, supportive, and used a high level of communication throughout the process to ensure understanding and success. I highly recommend Stone & Glass. James Stone Glass is a real gem. Off the beaten path in Escondido, however, very easy to get to. I worked directly with James. He was very attentive to what I liked and the colors I was interested in. He made me the most beautiful glass bowl For my dining table. He also does some fabulous benches with metal and glass. I wish I had room for one! His prices are very reasonable for the quality of custom glass . Perhaps one day I'll have the courage to not just shop but take a class.

James and his team are incredible! Had a wonderful time glass blowing with my Girl's Night Out crew. I would recommend glass blowing to anyone who's looking for something fun and unique to do as a couple or with a great group of friends!

I really enjoyed the glass blowing class I took. It was a small group and the instructions were easy to follow. One of the two instructors made things a bit uncomfortable with his forwardness (overly friendly touching, flirty remarks non stop). But, overall the locale of the class was nice and the end result (glad pumpkin) turned out really well. I'd recommend not getting on an anti-Chihully soap box... It detracts from the fun, enjoyable mood of the class.

I was directed to Stone and glass after spending months of research and driving around trying to replace a broken lamp post fixture in my neighbors backyard (had a little mishap with my son shooting it out with an airsoft gun). James Stone and Carol Rogers were very helpful, professional and straight forward as to what can be done and not, and what I might be able to expect. They exceeded my expectations and made a beautiful custom glass housing. I would highly recommend Stone and Glass for any custom glass work, or for anyone who wants to learn the art of glass blowing, this is your place.

I had such an awesome time at Stone & Glass that when my friends announced their wedding plans, I got them a gift pass to James' studio. The Stone & Glass crew helped me fashion a gorgeous ocean-themed drinking glass that my kids still compete to get their hands on at dinnertime. :-) If you are heat sensitive, I recommend going during cool weather because the furnace is incredibly hot (but also super cool and mesmerizing). Oh, and take extra drinking water.

Let me first say "Wow", pretty impressive art work! Took a class and thoroughly enjoyed the company and friends I met. This is a perfect place to hangout and learn about glass and it's properties. Keep up the awesome work guys!!!

Had a total blast at Stone and Glass! Purchased a class for two as a gift for my husband for Christmas. Had a amazing time learn the history and art of blowing glass. Highly recommend taking the time to expand your mind, open you heart and learn the love behind the creations at Stone and Glass! This is the first of many creations to come! Took my mother for her 70th birthday and my daughter. James was our instructor and he was very professional and took his time going over safety precautions and what we would be doing step by step. We each made glass hearts and with James giving us great advice on the different color options and designs. We had a blast and our glass hearts are beautiful. We are definitely going back again!

I took an Intro To Glass Blowing class (purchased off Groupon) yesterday with my wife, mother-in-law & sister-in-law and we all LOVED it! James, the owner, seems is very passionate about glass blowing, art and creativity. You can tell he loves what he does and wants to share that with people who take his classes. He took a great deal of time to walk everyone through what we would be doing in the class, proper safety steps, etc. I didn't realize how dangerous glass blowing can be if you don't know what you're doing or take the proper precautions, but James takes safety very seriously and at no time was I worried as I was fully confident in him. There were 10 of us total in the class and each person got about 30 minutes one on one with James or another instructor to make a piece (mostly a glass of some sort, stemless wine glass, beer mug, regular glass, etc). This was something fun and completely different than we've ever done before and really enjoyed it.

My partner and I did the glass blowing class at Stone and Glass and we had such a great time that we are looking forward to our next class! James and the rest of the staff were all very supportive and fun and we walked away with two great looking glasses that are as functional as they are beautiful. This was not my first experience working with glass but certainly one of my best memories. Thanks Stone and Glass!

Cannot believe this was right under our noses in Escondido! What a GREAT time I had. James, Carol and the whole staff are so great to work with. I am so proud how well my first glass came out!
