The Best New Restaurants in Minneapolis and St. Paul, May 2025 | Eater Twin Cities

"You’ll find top-notch steakhouse fare at Stone & Oak, which earns additional points as the space is a former car wash. St. Paul chef Adam Johnson (Kincaid’s, Public Kitchen) leads the kitchen. Poke nachos and Sichuan Brussels sprouts are highlights for those who don’t partake in red meat. Reservations are available on Toast." - Serena Maria Daniels

I'd call this a quaint little place. Kind of tight in places, and other seating around including seating at the bar. A few well spent dollars would take this place up a notch. With that said, it's a place I'll be coming back to. Great people, great food, good drinks. I don't know if reservations are required (my wife did make us a reservation) but I would highly recommend it! Open (only) Thu, Fri, & Sat. Schezwan Brussel Sprouts, a good heat level! Lettuce Wraps great! Chicken wings great! The Peanut Butter Brownie Sunday... next level! A touch of peanut butter, a slight crunch on the outside of the brownie, soft center, and a drizzle of chocolate sauce... don't share, get your own! Fantastic! There is a parking lot around the (left side, looking at the front) if you can't find one in the back.

Very cool place. I love the open kitchen experience. The cocktails are fabulous, artichoke spinach dip is great, and both the filet mignon and sirloin entrees were delicious BUT THE MOST AMAZING THING OF ALL WAS THE SPICY COLESLAW. Oh my gosh!! My fiancé wanted to take home a whole container of it. It was amazing. We will definitely be back here.

My wife and I had a wonderful dinner that was made all the more better by our server Phoebe. We share the house cheeseburger and the Miso "Red Snapper" (they were out of Halibut so they were substituting the Snapper for the Halibut). This was our first time at Stone & Oak. We found the atmosphere casual and inviting. We had a reservation so we had a nice corner table but there were plenty of seats facing the open kitchen and bar. This is a very small restaurant that is currently open only a few days a week. The menu is limited but we really enjoyed the preparation, presentation and quality of our dinner. Service was remarkably fast and as I noted above our server Phoebe was outstanding. We will be back.

We were looking for something new to try and stumbled across Stone & Oak on Google maps. The menu looked good, so I made reservations for a group of 4 at the bar. The place is very small, so I do recommend reservations. They're new (just about a month open as a restaurant(, but they seem to have started in the right foot with a small (but excellent) menu and 3 days a week open. Between the 4 of us, we tried the burger, the halibut, the Oscar filet, and the roasted veggie pasta. All were excellent! We also got the bread board to split, which I do recommend. And to top things off, the drinks were also wonderful! The restaurant is small, and thankfully not too noisy or it might have been hard to be at the bar with 4 people, but it was surprisingly easy to have a conversation. There are no distracting TV's, either. Thank you. The staff was friendly, as well. We'll be back!

We were there opening week, the food was very good. The drinks were good, a bit expensive , it's very small the sun came in and was in our eyes until the sun went down, hopefully, they'll work out something to cover the window with. I'm glad that we tried it .

Our date night was made extra special thanks to our server, Vinnie! He was fantastic, adding a fun and attentive touch to our evening. Thanks, Vinnie, for making our date night memorable! From the moment we walked in, the warmth of this woman-owned gem was palpable. The service was not just efficient, but genuinely fun, creating a lively and engaging experience. The atmosphere truly felt community-centered, filled with comfortable seating and a sea of smiling, friendly faces. But the real star of the show? The food. Absolutely delicious. Hands down, the best I've tasted in town. Every dish was a testament to the passion and skill of the kitchen. If you're looking for incredible food, a welcoming atmosphere, and a truly enjoyable dining experience, look no further!

Our entire experience at Stone and Oak was stellar. Our server, Sydney, was great. She was polite and attentive without hovering. The care and skill which Jess puts into imagining and creating the cocktails showed in all four drinks we tried. The Sesame Aviation is a near-perfect pair with the Korean BBQ wings (which were incredible on their own). While the service, drinks, and appetizers were all great, Chef Adam Johnson’s Filet Oscar stole the show. The dish included two four ounce filets, whipped Yukons, grilled broccolini, lump crab, and garlic butter bernaise. The steak was one of the best cuts of meat I’ve ever had (both in preparation and quality). All the components blended perfectly. We are looking forward to our next visit to Stone and Oak. While it will be difficult to not order the Filet Oscar, we cannot wait to try more of the entrees!

The food was delicious! We loved the poke nachos, hamburger and the wings were INCREDIBLE. The atmosphere is so lovely and the service was so wonderful. Jess and Sydney went out of their way to make our evening remarkable. We will be back to eat our way through the menu!

Yelp
Food was excellent and certainly not run of the mill. Servers were well informed and very into making this new restaurant a success. Very vibrant atmosphere with a local flair. Would definitely come again

Yelp
To summarize in one word, disappointing. We live close by and I felt bad that we had not checked out this restaurant. On a warm humid Saturday we needed something to do and finally made the reservation. We had originally reserved two spots at the bar. With an open kitchen, we thought it might be entertaining and fun to watch them prepare the food. The bar seating is not very attractive as the kitchen area is a bunch of shelving and and to be honest, not much to see. We changed our plans and were seated at a table. The drinks. My spouse ordered a drink that did not come with any alcohol. When we pointed it out to the server, she stated that she could get us another one. Also mentioned that she would advise the bartender. My spouse passed on another try at the drink and ordered a glass of wine instead. I ordered one of the special drinks they offered and was just somewhat satisfied. The food. I ordered the halibut which was presented very well, but it was very bland with a total lack of taste. My spouse ordered the roasted vegetable pasta which our servers said was loaded with vegetables. That was definitely an exaggeration as other than a few pieces of broccoli, it was very light on vegetables. My spouse is willing to give it another try but for me, I believe it is the last time. I will check it out if I see some encouraging reviews on yelp.

Yelp
Through word of mouth, found this intimate gem that offers a dining experience once a month at their establishment. The chef and bartender design and develop new and fresh ideas for the menu each month. The Prime Rib sandwich was a sell out hit. The wild mushroom flatbread was tasty and a nice crispy crust. The craft cocktail concoctions were especially enjoyable. Loved the Christmas Cookie cocktail with the sugar cookies dessert option. Will definitely be going back on another month.

Yelp
We wanted to like this more. Having been to this location under the Stonehouse Catering flag, we really enjoyed our previous visits. This time, though, was a let down. Our maple old fashioned was excellent, but the berry basil mocktail was essentially a smoothie and lacked refinement. We started with a charcuterie board that was uninspired--with terrible bread and no crackers. The cheese and meat selections were so-so. Our main courses were brought out before we finished the charcuterie, so we felt rushed. There were plenty of empty tables, so I'm not sure why the rush. My wife raved about her quinoa bowl with seared ahi tuna--she loved the tuna. My burger was fair, but putting lettuce in the burger wilted it. I searched high and low for the crispy onions, but they could not be spotted. Pickle slices were tiny. However, the crispy truffle fries were outstanding!! We skipped on dessert, although they sounded good. We will be willing to give the place another try, but I won't be ordering the burger again. Overall, 3 stars due to the rushed service and hit or miss on the food. I know they can do better, and trust they will.

Yelp
Outstanding Restaurant!!! Stonehouse Catering offers a "First Friday" where every first Friday of each month they have food and drinks. If you haven't been to a first Friday you are missing out! The food is to die for! I have to say my prime rib sandwich was one of the best I've ever had. What really pulled this dish together was the au jus sauce. The ahi tuna had a rich mix of textures and flavors. I had the maple old fashioned and the blend was delicious. The crème brûlée was amazing! A great treat to the end of our night. Would highly recommend! We will definitely come back to First Fridays at Stonehouse, and I would highly recommend this place to others!

Yelp
Remember years ago when there was that neighborhood restaurant where every time you went there it was a treat because they made you feel special? Stone & Oak is that place! Great atmosphere, I appreciated the fact that it is an intimate space where you can actually have a conversation over dinner and not have to shout at your guests like in most restaurants these days. Our server Sydney was a delight and treated us like family. The GM even came to check on us. When was the last time that ever happened to you? The food was excellent, plenty of choices on the menu. My son, who is a steak connoisseur, said his steak was cooked perfectly and the crab put it over the top.
