"This Korean restaurant serves dishes in sizzling Korean stone bowls, which heat and crisp up the rice. Arrive during lunch to take advantage of the lunch pricing, which includes a protein, two side dishes, two pan-fried dumplings, rice, and daily soup for $13 to $14." - Lyndsay Cordell

Yelp
I was surprised to find that this was the only Korean restaurant near Asheville. Just what you'd expect from a well run Korean BBQ restaurant. Good condiments, tasty food, and a nice atmosphere. And I ate until I couldn't fit anymore in.

Nels B.

Yelp
Considering there are so few Korean restaurants in the area, I can understand why this one wouldn't necessarily need to keep its quality level high. The food tasted low-end. The restaurant itself just felt unnecessary cramped. I'd be willing to give it another shot--maybe they were having an off day ‍

Yelp
Got take out and it was great! Recently had bugogi on vacation and was pleased to find Stonebowl. Yummy!

Ngan N.

Yelp
Tldr: just order Spicy pork belly stone bowl and you're safe! - Spicy pork belly: flavorful, good amount of spiciness. The meat is tender too. I love this one most. - Seafood stone bowl and eel stone bowl: they were delicious but I should have gotten it with pork belly. - Jabchae: very flavorless. Not good. Don't order this. - Kimbab: I didn't eat this one but my mom didn't like it so don't order it either. Service was bad. Their employees were not friendly or helpful. We wanted to sit outside so we were standing outside. It was okay that no one came out but when I walked inside, they couldn't even say hi or anything. It was me saying hi and asked all the questions. I didn't feel service was improved for the rest of my meals. Even though service wasn't good, we were forced to tip 18% because we have 6 people in our party. Casual ambiance! Not too loud. Lots of seatings.

Michael S.

Yelp
The theme here is serving a sizzling meal in a hot bowl. It's ok. Prices are now over $20 for the bowl, and it doesn't seem like as much food in it as there used to be. The assorted side plates of kimchis are good. Appetizers are expensive. Lunch for 6. Including 2 children, without any alcohol was $200, including the 18% tip, which they add The service was fast.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped for dinner on a Thursday night. Probably around 8 tables of people and we were immediately greeted and seated. Service was fast and very accommodating. Overall the place is pretty nondescript but was clean and not crowded. We both ordered the beef bulgogi stone bowl which we get at a few places back home. The food came pretty quickly and looked good - the taste did not disappoint. Everything was very good!

J. Curtis G.

Yelp
It was a culinary experience and not just lunch! I had the beef rib ramen bowl and they brought out a giant pair of scissors for me to cut the meat off the rib bones! I felt like a Korean king! I'll definitely be back anytime I'm in the area. Parking was also ample. It speaks well of a place when you have to resist the urge to turn the bowl up and drink what's left in the bottom!

Kim N.

Yelp
I think the foods here are pretty decent. The spicy pork belly is tasty. It was the best among what we ordered there. Even though Jab Chae was not as good as the ones I had before at other Korean restaurants, the beef in the dish was tender and well-marinated. Service was just okay in my opinion. They have both indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
We decided to grab take out before we checked into our AirBNB and we chose Stonebowl! We ordered bang bang shrimp, mandoo, seafood pancake, and seafood bibimbap. Bang Bang shrimp 10/10 the sauce had a really good flavor profile. Mandoo 6/10 Haemul Pajeon 6/10 was very soggy and not crispy like I'm used too. Banchan 9/10 Bibimbap 8/10.

Ken C.

Yelp
best classic korean fare in NC okay, I've never had corn and lettuce in my bibimbap, but who cares? it tasted really good. bibimbap came out hot and sizzling just the way I like it, with plenty of crispy rice on the bottom. we also tried the jjampong and were not disappointed - literally LOADED with shrimp, mussels, squid, and clam. broth was delectable as well. the side dishes were excellent as well, especially the candied taro - yum. portions were generous, prices reasonable. overall pleasantly surprised by this place

Mike M.

Yelp
Attentive service. Strip mall Asian restaurant gem. Ordered the seafood stone bowl. Everything cooked to perfection. The crispy rice really added a ton to the fish. Came with some tiny appetizer bites. Wish I ordered the spicy pork belly too but this was filling even for me

Rachel G.

Yelp
Ordered through GrubHub as a complimentary lunch for my manager. I ordered the bulgogi rice bowl and it was so delicious. It was the perfect combination of sweet and tangy, and the rice was fluffy and still steaming hot by the time it reached to me. I wish they gave a little bit more meat and rice. It was a bit skimpy for a $20 charge. Maybe the portions would have been better if I were to dine-in instead.

Thao N.

Yelp
Food was great! The stonebowl was a lot tastier than we expected. The amount of rice, vegetables, and proteins were very well balanced. You can still have each spoon with a little bit of everything after mixing them all up - rather than mostly rice and barely any proteins like some other places. Grilled spicy pork belly came in a generous portion and very flavorful. The service was also great. The ambiance is suitable for all occasions.

Barbara M.

Yelp
Loved this place! When we arrived they gave us complimentary kimchi and other veggies. I ordered the vegetable and tofu bowl and it was delicious. We also ordered the kimchi bowl and it was so good and spicy. Everything was so good! I would definitely go back.

Hara T.

Yelp
The food is a little bit better than average,., I ordered addition found a Hair in my food... when I showed it to the waitress, she said that looks like your hair and didn't flinch. Something about cleanliness and things like that I feel needs to be addressed in a different way, and that wasn't really a great answer for me. Nobody came to talk to me, they just gave us the bill and that was that

Nata D.

Yelp
Walking into Stonebowl you're immediately greeted with a warm + welcoming atmosphere. We were seated very quickly & in a nice spot away from others, which was nice & comfortable. My first observation were their cute utensils, the chopsticks weren't heavy & were shaped in a way that was easy to hold. The spoon had an adorable design & I had to hold back the urge to snatch them. We started with edamame - which was perfectly cooked!! My water was quickly refilled when it got slightly low. Then we had a Chicken Stonebowl & a Mae Un Dak Bok Um (which had the perfect amount of spice) They were both delicious & felt like the perfect amount of every ingredient. They offer an edited gluten free menu, which was super helpful & accommodating. Their hot sauce is not gluten free but has a smokey taste to it. Everything was clean, take out + waiting area was very cute, food was delicious, seating wasn't too close, & the bathrooms smelled good! I'll be back!

Kathleen R.

Yelp
Simply outstanding. Service was wonderful and the food is beyond excellent. We were pleasantly surprised to find a Korean resteraunt during our travels but this is the best we've had.

Miok C.

Yelp
The Food is okay, but the service is great . Recommend the spicy Korean rice cake. That's the only thing that I enjoyed. Good luck

John B.

Yelp
I was there for dinner Christmas night. The service was rushed, no issue there given the date. The place is clean. Ordered the special, which was a short rib ramen dish at 23.99. It was inedible due to the amount of salt. Requested it be taken off my bill after 2 bites and was simply given a check. Extra star for my lady friend's dish being edible but lacking seasoning.

James N Carly G.

Yelp
Absolutely bomb Korean food. They have a wide range of authentic dishes on both their everyday menu and as specials. We got the kimchi jjigae, bulgogi, fried tofu, and jajangmyun. It was incredibly comforting and tasty. Also, they offer hot pot so we will be back to try!

Linda W.

Yelp
This saved me! I ordered it and it filled me up and kept me warm when the lights went out on Christmas Day this year And the food was so delicious! Thank you, Stonebowl!

Harry B.

Yelp
I'm not sure the restaurant did anything "wrong". Maybe I just don't like Korean? Not sure. I ordered the Spicy Pork Bul Go Gi. I get that spicy is in the name, but it was soaked in the spicy sauce, and honestly, after several bites, I was done and didn't finish the rest. The heat was present but also just the flavor of just tasting the sauce coating the meat really overwhelmed any flavor of pork. I could have been eating spicy old rubber tire or spicy corrugated cardboard and no one could have told me differently. I also didn't think the quality of the pork was the best. A bit fatty and stringy. Served with slivered onions and green onions, side of rice. I would ask them to tame it down, even if I liked things spicy. It was an overwhelming flavor. It was recommended to me by a service industry professional as one of their favorite places. I guess it's just not mine. And as it wasn't inexpensive, I think it's a one and done place for me.

Janet D.

Yelp
Great place to come enjoy a meal. I love a stone bowl and the Bulgogi is delicious. My only complaint is I wish there was a little more Bulgogi in it for the price and a little more crispy rice at the bottom , but it's still pretty tasty and the veggies and rice portion is generous. The Kim Chi Mandu is also very tasty! You get more than are pictured, I may have eaten one or two, can't help it. SO GOOD! Very friendly staff, quick to help you and a great place to enjoy a meal. I wouldn't recommend a stone bowl as a takeout item, it's just not the same. Part of the magic is that searing hot stone bowl!

Tayler S.

Yelp
Cozy little spot in a strip mall that really impressed us. My husband and I love Korean food so we were super excited to see this place so close to where we are vacationing. The servers were super nice and even put our baby's high chair at the table instead of kind of off to the side. My husband had the pork belly stone bowl which he really enjoyed and I had the kimchi jjigae, which was absolutely delicious. The food stayed warm the entire meal which was great for a slow eater like me, and they definitely didn't skimp on the meat and vegetables.

Coy M.

Yelp
Great food!! Nice location. Would definitely recommend if you are in the mood for stone bowls.

Jennifer T.

Yelp
Fabulous! So excited great Korean food has found a home in Asheville. We have missed it since moving from CA! Definitely recommend the stone bowls!

Daisy O.

Yelp
Loved the food. Beef bulgogi, rice rolls, fried rice were delicious. Nice and clean seating indoor and out. The service was prompt and good but not super friendly.

Yvonne L.

Yelp
Great veggie pancakes and soups. Even my grandkids like it! Fantastic service and good parking.

Callie T.

Yelp
I can honestly say that I am glad the restaurant that we were planning on going to did not take actual reservation so the "call ahead" that my brother-in-law did resulted in us finding several parties waiting to be seated, and we decided to drive to Asheville to Stonebowl Korean Restaurant. Since it was nice outside, we decided to grab one of it's three outdoor tables. Colleague family of my sister and brother-in-law at Brevard Music Camp was there and they couldn't stop saying how good the food was. The food truly was delicious. From the appetizer, to the main dish, and they even have dessert option. Two of us had the same order, Salmon Seafood with brown rice. Let's just say, I want my personal chef (aka son) to add this to our menu. It was absolutely delicious and such a large quantity. The Stonebowl is a ceramic bowl that enables the rice at the bottom layer to have a slightly crunchy texture that I love! And the amount and variety of veggies are superb. Mushroom, corn, bean sprouts, etc. I don't even recall what Stonebowl my sister ordered but needless to say, she thought it was delicious too as she somehow finished off her bowl! My nephew ordered the Udon noodle with chicken and gave it two thumbs up. He was very hungry since it was quite late so he had ordered a side dish of white rice. He also ate all of the edamame which was fine. I wish I recalled our waiter as he was fabulous. The fact that he had to go between inside and outside, was joking and teasing with my nephew, attentive to what we needed like more napkins, and brought extra bowl so my nephew could transfer the steaming to cool down, and he brought appropriate serving utensils. 5 stars for sure!

Yelp

Chris S.

Yelp
Amazing and authentic experience. One of my favorite lunch spots. Service is always good and the food is unique and consistent.

Donovan M.

Yelp
Overall this was a horrible experience, first the service wasn't great, our server didn't make eye contact with us once while we were at the establishment. Second the food was awful, everything is overcooked and bland, and don't get me started on their cheesecake, one bite from that will have you running outside to spit up. The only thing I can say that was decent was the how the dinning room looked.

Sal C.

Yelp
Food was amazing 11/10 knocked it out of the park on apps and entrees. The service was equally on par. Great atmosphere.

Karlo P.

Yelp
Didn't know about this existing in Asheville!! We just happened to search for Korean restaurant driving on I-26. Definitely worth a stop!! Quick service as well. No long wait.

Floy K.

Yelp
Stonebowl is always great! Love the steamed dumplings and the stone bowls, as well as the other entrees. Our favorites are chicken or beef stone bowls, the shrimp fried rice is really good and so is the teriyaki chicken. This is one of our family's favorite restaurants. We have never had anything we didn't like. The service is always friendly and they are pretty quick to get the food out.

Myrna B.

Yelp
Christmas Day was open and it was the best choice by chance. Food was delicious. I ordered chicken Stonebowl not spicy and the ribs soup. The Stonebowl is literally a bowl made of stone that keeps the heat until your last piece of food. It was not greasy at all and full of soul. The soup was fresh made and light. The service was excellent. Fast, friendly and helpful.

Linda I.

Yelp
We were struggling to find a place that's open on Christmas Day and we found stonebowl. The servers are always great and sweet. Everyone raved about the seafood pancake a d they are right. It's perfectly cooked, crispy and delicious. The stonebowl is a big portion and comes with fresh ingredients. I didn't really care about the pork belly stone bowl, wish it was more flavorful but the bulgogi stonebowl is really good. The place has enough seats but still maintains that cozy vibes. Price is very reasonable. Definitely would come back again.

Tebbe D.

Yelp
We had to visit our dog in the animal vet hospital and came to StoneBowl Korea because my wife wanted to check out this restaurant and we are just totally in love with this food. The ambience is nice. Food is tasty to help is really helpful and we recommend this 100%

Tay E.

Yelp
Tried more dishes and was really good this time. The pork belly w kimchi was very tasty, but as others mentioned, the ratio of meat to veg, was unacceptable hence the star reduction. The soft tofu w seafood stew was hot and bubbly. Good spicy octopus too. Side dishes were a bit better this time and was quite busy. Service was great as usual. It's the only game in town for Korean so glad they have this here w a broad menu.

Tori A.

Yelp
Last night was my first time ever having a Korean dish. I of course had to go with the Stonebowl, which I learned was a traditional dish that comes out piping hot and you eat heaping spoonfuls- forget the chopsticks. And the bowl is so hot that the rice gets a little crunchy on the bottom, and I'm not certain but I'm pretty sure this is the entire premise of the dish. The crunchy rice is packed with flavor and really adds to the dish. I opted for the spicy chicken and I used the kimchi, potatoes, and other sides they provided to add even more flavor. Mixed in with the sauce they brought me- forgive me I didn't catch the name. I've been in Asheville for 6 months and this is hands down the best meal I've had out. It was a medley of flavors and the stonebowl came out literally steaming and by the time I was nearly full my food was still hot- and I took my sweet time eating this! My boyfriend got some kind of beef... it was $45. But it was very very tasty- his only complaint was he had wished it came with more rice. The food was excellent. The service didn't miss. Don't skip this place!

Chad M.

Yelp
Pork bowl was delicious and cucumber kimchi was excellent. Will stop again when passing through Asheville

Mark L.

Yelp
The food was tolerable, as the establishment attempted to imitate Korean dishes. However, The service was nice, which is what helped get the two stars. If you're looking for truly authentic Korean food, this is not the place to get it.

Denise F.

Yelp
Found this place a few months back and it has quickly become one of my favorite spots in town. Their stone bowls are amazing, and none of the portions will leave you hungry. Their kim bap appetizer is a meal in and of itself. I'm not a sushi person normally, but theirs is somewhat addictive! The restaurant is small, so they only have two servers that I have seen, but both are incredibly nice and know what they are talking about. Inside is calm and a wonderful environment for a relaxing meal. As a side note, they have a consistent lunch menu that is a great value! Bento box style, served with soup, an entrée, 2 sides, rice, and 2 dumplings with dumpling sauce for just $12 total! I highly recommend this place if you are looking for Korean, or If you just want something different to try. Also, if you're looking for REALLY GOOD orange chicken, try their sweet and sour chicken, it's especially orange chicken with an amazingly crunchy breading and a nice sweet and citrusy sauce, served with mandarin oranges lettuce, and a side of rice.

Sara N.

Yelp
Service was good. Stay away from the teriyaki chicken! It was hard and had no flavor. Unsure of what type of meat it was. Told the server about it and all they wanted to do was replace the meal with a different dish. Lost my appetite after that and didn't want to pay for something that we couldn't even eat. They made us pay 50% for the 3 bites we tried to eat. Other food we ordered was decent. They also charge you a fee to use your credit card as well. Luckily, we had enough cash to cover our bill. Lots of other good restaurant options in Asheville so we will not return.

Chris D.

Yelp
Very good. Pan fried dumplings were wonderful. Service was outstanding and friendly. Had the Bul GoGi. Again wonderful. Will be back.

Sunflowers B.

Yelp
We made it a point to always visit sister restaurant Koreana, when were traveling in this area. Sadly, Koreana closed last year, but we were relieved to find out that this location was still open. Just like before, the food is absolutely excellent. Quick service and very high quality ingredients show throughout the meal. We ordered the bulgogi, pan fried dumplings, kimchi tofu soup and chicken teriyaki for the kids. Everything was so flavorful and excellent. We are from FL and make it a point to drive an hour out of our way just to visit this place every time we are in the Cashiers/Brevard area. That gives you an idea of how amazing we think their food is and how we have found nothing else close to us in FL or GA that compares to it!

Kaya H.

Yelp
After living close to the Stonebowl Korean Restaurant for years, I finally decided to treat myself and give it a try. I can't believe it took me so long, and I regret that it did because boy, was I missing out! For an appetizer I ordered Hae Mul Pa Jun (seafood pancake) and it was absolutely delicious. So was the dipping sauce that came with it! It had a crispy-on-the-outside, soft-yet-chewy-on-the-inside texture, and was cut into 8 slices. Definitely big enough to be shared with a table full of people. I also had the Bul Go Gi Stonebowl because... well... it's the Stonebowl Korean Restaurant so it would be hard to go wrong with the namesake menu item. If you've never had a stone bowl before, be prepared for it to be very, very hot when it arrives! The server offered me this advice: wait for it to cool a bit before stirring, but the longer you wait, the crispier the rice on the outside of the bowl is going to be. Once stirred, the rice was perfectly cooked and crispy on the outside, the vegetables were fresh and crispy... I can not recommend this enough! The banchan were equally as delicious and did a lot to cool the whole meal down as well. Also, say yes to the hot sauce if you like spicy food - it definitely gave the dish an extra kick! I would definitely recommend visiting the Stonebowl Korean Restaurant if you're in the Asheville area. The portions are generous, the servers are helpful, and the food is absolutely delicious. One suggestion I may have for those planning to visit is to arrive at a time of day at least several hours prior to closing, as although I (and some others who left just before I did) arrived with plenty of time to eat before the restaurant closed, I got the impression they may have been aiming to close up shop early that particular night.

Yan X.

Yelp
Pretty good! Love the tofu soup!! Also the bang bang shrimp is really good. Speaking from a Chinese perspective lol

Emily H.

Yelp
The most amazing kimchi jiggae I've had in a while. Pro tip - go to Shoji spa beforehand and I promise you it will be a combo experience of a lifetime. Can't wait to come back!

Tawanna-Patrice M.

Yelp
Great seafood pancake, incredible bibimbap dolsot. Service was impeccable. I would highly recommend.
