Stone Hearth Grille

While staying in the Bryce Canyon area we were looking for a decent place for a nice dinner - and we found „Stone Hearth Grille“. We experienced a warm welcome, our server was very friendly and attentive - and the food was delicious!

We had a wonderful dining experience at Stone Hearth Grille and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. One of the highlights was the beautiful outdoor terrace with a lovely view, creating the perfect setting for a memorable evening. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented, clearly made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The avocado was perfectly ripe and flavorful, the salad was crisp and refreshing, and the sauce added a delightful touch. A small word of caution—the pepper used in some of the dishes was a bit too spicy for my taste, but the staff were more than happy to accommodate and adjust the seasoning when asked. The service was exceptional: attentive, friendly, and highly professional throughout the entire meal. It was also great to see a selection of vegetarian options on the menu, making it an excellent choice for all types of diners. We ended our meal with a fantastic cheesecake—rich, creamy, and served in a generous portion. It was the perfect way to conclude a truly enjoyable evening. Stone Hearth Grille is definitely a place we would return to without hesitation.

The food was fresh and was plated beautifully, but unfortunately it lacked seasoning. It was overpriced, but some of the better quality food available in Tropic. The staff were helpful and attentive. The outdoor seating was fabulous. Parking was convenient and reservations are needed.

Truly blown away by our experience at Stone Hearth Grille. Our steaks were prepared to perfection, the service was so kind and prompt and if I could give atmosphere more stars I would. As a person with sensory sensitivity, I really enjoyed the quiet music and the outdoor patio. Probably one of the best meals I’ve ever had

Glad we saw the billboard on our way into Bryce. Gorgeous patio views! French onion soup and butter leaf lettuce salad were excellent. Pork chop with fondue potatoes is a must. Service was excellent.

We loved our dinner here! Our server, Manni, was knowledgeable and engaging. The food was fab, but he made the meal. We shared a salad, ordered a steak & a creamy chicken entree and shared a dessert. Every dish was perfect. We sat outside at sunset. Who could ask for more?

This restaurant was fantastic. There are not a ton of options in the area and we were so pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. Probably the best food we had all trip.

This is a very nice restaurant near Bryce Canyon City. Views are amazing from the deck and inside. We had Ribeye and Sablefish plates, and both were perfectly prepared. Rylan, our waiter was excellent! Will visit again when we return.

We stopped by the Stone Hearth Grille on our National/State Park hopping trip. This place is up a road that extends beyond the local high school. When I say up, quite literally vertically up the side of a foothill in Tropic, Utah between Kodacrome Basin State Park and Bryce Cannon National Park. Tropic has a unique food scene. There is a bakery... quite good. And, there are several campground and gas station restaurants. (We did not try these.) We were looking for something a little more fancy. Yet, in reality... we had been hiking on 100 degree heat... camping for many days in our slide-in-truck camper. What we liked about the Stone Hearth Grille - these people are workers with grit and hustle. Service was top notch and they seemed happy. That is a huge plus for me. The view was fantastic. (Photos will attest.) They handle dietary needs well as we have some food allergies. Additionally, the restaurant and surrounding property is beautiful (clean, landscaped in a sustainable tasteful way, decorated with a western bougie flare). What not to like [I apologize in advance for being picky. Yet, the price point allows me to do so.] the food was not executed well. We found our meals (salmon wellington and spaghetti with duck) to be better than average, but not great. They were on the bland and barely warm side. Plus, the red wine was the wrong temperature entirely. I am sure that this is an anomaly. I hope others can attest to this being a one off day. Also, we did roll in without a reservation right at opening time. It is possible that the kitchen felt rushed to serve.

Really good meal in the middle of Utah. The French onion soup was phenomenal, and the ribeye was really solid as well. The ambiance is calming and the service was exceptional. Would recommend it you're in the area looking for some good food

We were genuinely thrilled to come to your restaurant. Your posted hours said you were open until 9:30 p.m., so we planned our evening around that promise. We dressed up, set out after dark, and made the long drive--navigating winding roads, dodging prairie dogs and deer, and arriving tired but excited. When we finally reached your doors, full of anticipation, the restaurant was closed. No notice. No explanation. Just darkness. With no alternatives, we retreated to the local market and ate Texas toast burgers with frozen Ore-Ida french fries--hardly the evening we had imagined or dressed for. The disappointment was real. Please update your hours and clearly communicate your off-season plan so future diners don't plan an entire evening around a meal that isn't there.

Stopped by for our anniversary dinner during our weekend getaway! I recommend you to call ahead to make your reservation! We chose to sit outside for a dinner with a view. We ordered the house bread (forgot to take a picture) -- this is a must!!! The bread was perfectly crisp on the outside and very soft on the inside. Their house made butter paired so well with the bread. We ordered two steaks-- ribeye for me & New York for my hubs. We both asked for medium & mine was cooked perfectly. The New York was more on the rare side. Still seasoned well! You can order the steaks with either the rosemary butter or chimichurri sauce. I enjoyed the mashed potatoes & veggies w/ the steak.

Stone Hearth Grille is elevated/fine American food hidden outside of Tropic. The setting is quiet with beautiful views, and the restaurant feels as relaxed as a home, yet maintains an elevated dining experience. I enjoyed the sablefish with miso sauce, jasmine rice, and carrots. It paired nicely with a cabernet sauvignon from New Zealand. She had a lovely New York strip steak. The servers were attentive and on point. We really enjoyed our dinner!

This is probably one of the nicer restaurants around Bryce Canyon and we chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday... but I found the ambiance, food and service to be just "okay" maybe a 3.25 or a 3.5 if I'm generous. Ambiance -- the restaurant is in what looks like a house with a bunch of tables in what would be the living room. It wasn't bad but a feel like a little more could be done to make it feel more warm and inviting Food -- I was really looking forward to some delicious food based on the reviews and though it wasn't bad... nothing about it was memorable. The steak was fine, the fish and shrimp was also fine but the asparagus was not great and we ended up not eating half of it. Dessert was probably the highlight, followed by the expensive coconut chicken and even that was just okay. we left a little hungry and ended up getting snack later that night elsewhere. Service -- again also fine. the young man who helped us was friendly enough.

From our first encounter with the host/owner through our dinner, we had a thoroughly pleasant experience. Stone Hearth Grille is a gem in the fairly sparse dining scene in Tropic. The menu was interesting and varied. We enjoyed a well-prepared, tender filet au poivre and a lovely grilled sea bass. The vegetable accompaniments were well cooked. Several dishes in the menu were new, suggesting that Stone Hearth Grille isn't content to rest on its laurels. Stone Hearth Grille had a surprisingly good wine list with relatively reasonable prices. You'll find much better options by the bottle versus by the glass. Service was very good and attentive throughout the evening. If we're ever in this vicinity again, we would definitely make a stop here! When the weather is nicer, their lovely patio would be a delightful spot to take in the stunning view.

We were really looking forward to having a special dinner after being on the road for three days. Unfortunately our server Geni put a big damper on the night. I waited 20 minutes to be checked on after being served an almost raw $60 steak. Parts of my son's steak were also raw but he ate around them. When I pointed it out Geni threw up her hands and defensively proclaimed that she didn't cook them and asked "what do you want?" My son and I did not get to eat together and the treatment of us was dismal. This type of situation deserved, at the very least, an apology. One steak really should have been comped or at least a desert on the house. I was sad to be put in the position of leaving no tip. I've never done that but felt it appropriate. A once in a lifetime trip with my son and a birthday dinner ruined. Other waitstaff seemed to enjoy their jobs and taking care of their customers. The positive aspects were the pleasant deck outside, homemade bread and my eventually appropriately cooked steak was delicious with the Worcestershire sauce.

Three stars for the view, and salad. -2 for steak and costs. I get it. Location, location, location. The view is stunning and the atmosphere elevated. The kale Caesar was excellent, except for the full cloves of roasted garlic. However, the 12 ounce strip was more fat and grizzle than meat. EXTREMELY tough to cut and chew. A low of our trip to Bryce Canyon.

If you are looking for fine dining, a quality meal while visiting Bryce National Park, look no further than here. Wow, this place was fantastic. Exceptional food, attentive and knowledgeable service and a scenic view from the patio make it a memorable place to dine. The fresh halibut with shrimp was spectacular as was the grass-fed local Beef Filet Mignon, which was grilled to perfection . Sitting on the patio and watching the sun set on the colorful mountains was so pretty. Wine by the glass selections are very good and work well with the dinner entrees. This was such a good restaurant and experience we returned and ate here a second time within a few days.

Unfortunately we had a bad experience at the Stone Hearth Grille. Sunday July 27th while checking in at the Stone Canyon Inn we booked a table for our family of 5 for Monday July 28th. When booking we had a glance at the tables outside on the terrace, admired the wonderful view and said that we looked forward to enjoying this view during our dinner the next day. My wife, son and daughter arrived exactly on time on Monday July 28th. When I got there 3 minutes later with my daughter I walked outside on the terrace - where 3 of the around 12 tables were filled - but could not find our family members. I walked back inside to ask where they were sitting and was told to walk further around the terrace were there would be another spot. We walked back outside past the three filled tables (a gentleman on one of the tables smiled when we passed and said 'they have hidden them around the corner') to find my wife, son and daughter sitting in what we thought was the storage room for the terrace furniture. It was around the corner on the side of the building with two walls, roller screens on the third side and no view at all ( !! ). Furniture was piled up against the walls and we were literally put away from the restaurant and the terrace. Of course this was not what we expected nor had reserved. I walked back inside to speak to the restaurant manager to request if we could be replaced to one of the empty tables on the terrace. I immediately got a straight answer "no" and that this table was the only option. His blunt answer somewhat upset me. I informed if they were fully booked that night with no other tables available. He said they were not fully booked (later we noticed it was just the three tables and our family that night) and the only other option was to have a table inside. Apart from the fact that the entire inside was completely empty, one of the reasons to have dinner at the Stone Hearth Grille was to enjoy the view. When I pointed at the empty tables on the terrace and requested once again to please replace our family to one of these tables the restaurant manager said that we might experience nuisance from mosquitos there. When I replied that we would accept that risk one of the waiters stepped in and said the we could not have one of these tables out of 'safety measures'. Now it became clear to me that they were making reasons up as they went along and I insisted to leaving the table in the 'storage room' and getting one of the other tables. The unoccupied tables on the terrace where set-up as either for 4 persons or 2 persons. It was of course very easy to combine a 2-persons table with a 4-persons table to create a table suitable for a family of 5. The restaurant manager refused and unwillingly said we could sit a one of the available 4-persons table and that was it. Since it was 08pm and there are no other similar dining options in Tropic and surroundings we had no choice than to sit at a 4 persons table with our family of 5 for a three-course meal. I took the seat on the corner of the table and it all more or less looked like a scene from Fawlty Towers. Especially when the waiter started serving our menus and there was hardly any room on the table for the plates and glasses. Around 08:30pm we got our main course and expect one other table with 4 guests the complete terrace was empty. We never saw the restaurant manager again nor saw any mosquito that night. We spend around 100 usd per person. Food was OK to good. The view magnificent. The atmosphere terrible and service worse. We refused to let this bad experience ruin our holiday and decided to forget about. Now back home and cleaning my mailbox I bumped into a reservation confirmation email and decided to leave this review after all. We simply cannot reason why we were put on that bad table in the first place or why they refused to address or request to be replaced in any way. Perhaps they do not like young people on their (empty) terrace (our children are 12, 16 and 18 and appreciate fine dining)? Perhaps the restaurant manager had a bad day?

I had high expectations considering how the prices, and my expectations were even higher when I saw the portions in person. I had the red wine pasta with duck, and the duck was so dry and gross. I raise my own ducks, so I know how hard they are to cook. However, for the price, it shouldn't never been served. I won't be back, but I had to try for myself before forming an opinion.

This is a wonderful restaurant! We were surprised to find such a nice place in this rural area! The deck has beautiful views and the food was wonderful. We ended our weeklong visit with an amazing meal and great service. Highly recommend!

This was a delight after a day of driving and hiking. The patio faces a picturesque view of Powell Point. I would recommend making a reservation right at dinner opening hours to get the best view on the patio. Alls of the food here was delicious and priced very reasonably considering the current state of the economy. I highly recommend stopping here.

This is a small and classy restaurant, different from the other places in Bryce Canyon City. It has an air of fine dining. The waiters look like college students but are courteous and professional. The plating of the food is "fancy", again relative to other restaurants in the area. The patio is a great place to sit and enjoy the view, especially at sunset. Food was solid. We had the prawn appetizer and the chicken piccata. Both were good. It is expensive for what you get though. The restaurant is really off the beaten path in a residential area. If you want a non-touristy and classy dinner while visiting the area, then check out Stone Hearth Grille.

Truly amazing meal!!!! The duck with red wine sauce spaghetti is the best dish I have had in 2025. Seconds that with the beet salad with apples. They have a delicious selection of desserts and we chose the vanilla drizzled oatcake with raspberry sorbet. Our server Jesus was most attentive. An easy 5 stars. Best restaurant in the region. If you are in Bryce, please enjoy. My highest recommendation.

Lovely dining experience with great food, beautiful view and excellent service. Our server Ryland was delightful. Salads were fresh, fish and steak were really yummy and dessert was creative and delish! Nice beer and wine menu; cocktails are not offered. Give Stone Hearth Grille a try! You'll be glad you did!

Overall experience was wonderful EVERY steak was done perfectly! The roasted beet salad was shy on beets(initially) but rectified expeditiously. Halibut was amazing! And French onion soup w/ guryere cheese was great! Luke was very attentive; we wanted for nothing Restaurant could use some 'love' (-1)

Pretty good! After a day's hike at Bryce Canyon- we were ready for some clean, solid food- and definitely found it! Has a cute house vibes, the service was great, and the staff was friendly and welcoming! Overall we had a great experience. Between us 3 people, I got to try: French onion soup: not my thing overall but was decent Tenderloin steak, w/ side of broccolini and mashed potatoes: I picked chimichurri topping My son had steak also which he was happy with. My husband had the halibut, side of asparagus (This was kind of limp and chewy- which is unusual for a high end place w/$50 entrees): this order also had shrimp. For dessert we had the vanilla cheesecake (w/raspberry compote). If in the area and wanting a reliable, balanced meal- would definitely recommend.

Quite the hidden jewel at the outskirts of Tropic, UT. Was greeted with hospitality and serviced well throughout the dinner. The atmosphere was pleasant with a great patio view. The food was excellent and paired well with some great wine. Worth the excursion to this peaceful place.

Food was delicious, service was top notch! The only downside was the acoustics in the back room. We were a party of 5 and it was very hard to hear. Possible consideration to add decorative sound absorption on the walls could help the atmosphere.

Perfect place for my 60th birthday dinner with hubby and friends! Great location!!! Wonderful service and we got a table with a view Food was fantastic! For Starters we had; 4 of us House Made Bread with lightly salted butter ..yum! Parmesan Salad Beet Salad Shishito Peppers French Onion Soup Main Course: Grilled Pork Chop Grilled Halibut X2 14oz Rib Eye..cooked to perfection at Med Rare Bottle of : A to Z Pinot Noir Birthday Dessert: Oatcake with Gelato (My husband & I loved it..our friends were not fans...but we enjoy try new things) ALL of our entrees where absolutely wonderful! Highly recommend this wonderful restaurant!

While the idea of this restaurant is great and the view is fantastic, I am sorry to say that there is nothing very exceptional about the food here. For the price point, I expected it to be a higher quality of meat - I tried the NY strip- and there was a lot of connective tissue to sort through. My husband had the ribeye- same issue. Probably 1/4 of the meat was discarded due to the difficulty in chewing it. For a place that says they are a "steakhouse" and charges $$$, they need to invest in some better quality ingredients.

Looking for a special dinner occasion while visiting Bryce Canyon? This is definitely the place. We tried to make a reservation for a large group of 15 and it was a no go. They said that they can't handle that many people at once and it would overwhelm the kitchen. We decided to break from our group and made reservation for two instead. On the day of the reservation, the rest of the group decided to come anyway to see if there were any seatings. This was at 5pm when the restaurant first opened. The place was pretty empty. It was me and my partner with the reservation at 5pm and another couple. Even with that, they can't handle an extra 15 people. That is so unfortunate that they can't serve a full/semi full house. Hopefully this was only temporary due to staffing issues. The location is quiet and intimate. The outdoor patio is a must. We ordered the homemade bread and beet ravioli for appetizer. The bread was good but I agreed with other reviewers that it was not worth it when other restaurants would serve that complimentary. The beet ravioli was divine...totally not what I was expecting to use the beet slices as the ravioli. I had the grilled halibut. The fish was perfectly grilled, nice grill marks and the fish was tender and juicy. The shrimps were nice addition but it was the sauce that boosted the fish to another level. Highly recommend. My partner decided to go with some sides, potato purée and Mac & cheese, as the main course. There was a vegetarian entree option but she does not like peppers. Overall it was a great meal to go with the wonderful view

Review 24th out of 100 for 2022 Value for the price? Definitely at 3 star. Pros: Food was good. Service was lacking a bit. Atmosphere is not that 5 star rated pricing they had on the food. My dish was served on chipped plate and it was big no no. Host and water person was very courteous and professional. However, our server was either overwhelmed or just lacking for the night. This town, most of the restaurants were closed for the season and only choices we had was pizza, bbq, subway and here. Guess can't complain too much when there isn't much options.

Service was great, food is delicious and the patio is so beautiful and lovely. Loved everything about this charming dining experience and would love to have stayed in the nice cabins. Maybe next time! Can't wait to come again.

Everything was wonderful! The food was most flavorful, the filet was great, perfect. The grilled romaine Caesar salad was delicious but should have been served on a larger plate to be eaten and cut up easier. The view was amazing!

Food is superb. Service very good. Ambience lovely. Beautiful view from patio. Classy and quiet.

The service and ambiance is amazing here. The food was, well, mostly ok. The appetizers and deserts were perfect, but we ordered 3 steaks, all medium rare, and the chef cooked them to medium well/well done. All of them. We had one person complain and they were brought back a rare steak, and some neighboring customers also had the same complaint, their steaks were not cooked correctly, over done. This chef does well, with everything including cooking the steak to well done (pun intended) if you prefer an overcooked steak, look no further, they will take care of you here.

Truly a hidden gem. We had a great dinner here with family. The kale Caesar to start then the NY strip cooked perfectly followed by an exceptional dessert. Service was good and they had a very good wine list as well. Wonderful views from our window table topped it off.

This beautiful upscale restaurant has delicious food, spectacular views and great service! It was recommended by a friend. We had five entrees and everything was divine! I would highly recommend this spot!

Sadly one of the worst meals I've had in a long time and worst birthday dinner I've ever had. Friends who had previously visited only had lovely things to say about this restaurant; that being said, I am truly confused at how anyone could find this food anything more than mediocre. Tiny portions, overcooked meat, the chicken piccata was served with, I kid you not, 3 capers and zero sauce, and the pricing is not at all reflective of the food's poor quality (overpriced is an understatement). Our server was good looking and so was the view so I will be nice and give 2 stars. Diner food in the area is far superior.

Most polished and expensive restaurant in the entire area. A clear step up from travel meals. Starters were good and main courses were also well prepared. Think $150 to 200 for dinner for two with no alcohol.

This is Bryce Cannon's offer of fine dining after a day outdoors. Reservations are highly recommended, we were able to make same day reservations. The indoor space is small, maybe 10 table. The outdoor space is beautiful with a heated patio and view of the mountains. I got the impression outdoor dining is limited to certain times of the year. We ordered the beet salad, bread, French onion soup, and the 14oz Ribeye with mashed potatoes and broccolini. Beer Salad - excellent. Paired with a walnut topping and an citrus fruit. The citrus really cut the earthiness of the beet. Perfectly made. Bread - served with whipped butter. Bread was warm, soft, and nicely salted. 6 dollars for 4 slices of bread - but I would order it every time. French onion soup - very hearty heavy with onions. Bread still has crunch - nice texture, topped with melted cheese. Ribeye - cooked medium rare by preference, topped with the house made Worcestershire sauce. Nicely done. Slight grilled taste. The rosemary butter was also delicious - I would recommend pairing the two. (Although it says choose one). Mashed potatoes - nicely done. Broccolini - a little firm in texture. Would've liked the option for asparagus which came with the fish. Overall, very nice. Definitely some culinary expertise.

A wonderful gem, close to Bryce Canyon. The building and decor are well done, very tasteful. Food was outstanding. I had an amazing steak, cooked to perfection and my wife had a poblano pepper that was amazing. A wonderful meal in a perfect setting.

Hidden gem. Fantastic food and great views! Chicken piccata and beef tenderloin were cooked to perfection.

The food was impeccably prepared. Our waiter Manny was excellent. One of the younger waiters was extremely loud and it was annoying, I feel like I know his whole life story. I guess he's the owners son so I think he'll be around a while.

We loved this place. Delicious food. We were in town to hike Bryce and made reservations in advance to come here. I highly recommend reservations. The halibut is really excellent. The best thing we got ! I got the ribeye which was also great and a bigger portion size than I expected. . I am attaching some photos of the menu. I see that other people posted menus but they do seasonal menus and the other photos are out of date. This is what they were serving in July 2021. All in all it has a high end feel and great views. Yes you might pay $38 for an entree so know that going in. Also - they have beer and wine but no mixed drinks or hard alcohol. A big plus was the GF clearly marked. When we come back to Bryce, we will come back here for sure.

5 Stars because of vegan options. I know vegan options are very limited around here so I'm glad this place had delicious options, even a vegan dessert!

Awesome service, amazing food in a really lovely setting on the patio with a one of a kind view. Shishito peppers and coconut chicken were solid starters. Followed by halibut that was done perfectly. Hubs enjoyed the filet also cooked to specification and meltingly tender. We are foodies and this was top notch fare. Highly recommend

Best meal of the trip. Reservations recommended. Would go there again. I had the red wine spaghetti with duck leg. My wife had the tenderloin. Both excellent as were the appetizers. Nice wine selection too.

Beautiful view on the patio. The only entree worth eating and paying for was the steak. The chicken picatta was about as appetizing and appealing as a microwaved TV dinner and the duck was tough and dry. Thank goodness for appetizers and dessert, the beet salad was very flavorful, and the onion soup was good, but the lavender sponge cake with lemon curd was the best dish of the night. Service was very friendly and attentive. If only the food matched up to the service and view it would have been a hit. Paying that much for a dried up skinny piece of chicken was really disappointing.

After a day of hiking at Bryce Canyon, we were able to get dinner here October 11. We ate outside with a pleasant view, superb service. We had the pasta with duck, halibut with shrimp (so fresh and perfectly prepared.) a bottle of Pinot Noir. Great service.

Thank you fellow Yelpers for bringing this restaurant to the top of the list. I came here after driving 11 hours. It's a beautiful restaurant, I looked messy and didn't have a reservation. I'm grateful they seated me anyway and treated me kindly. And then WOW. The outside patio is beautiful. The food is delicate, delicious and far better than it needs to be. Whoever the chef is? He's a damn genius. His vegan/vegetarian dish was so delicious the night I stumbled in, that I came back the next night and had their 8oz steak. Oh. My. Goodness. As a native from the Midwest who has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for over a decade, this restaurant sure does know how to do veggies AND meat. Just wow. And then there is incredible, over the top service with a stunning view of the canyon. Epic. Come here. You'll love it. And if it's out of your price range, just know... it's worth it.
