The Best Soup in the Twin Cities | Eater Twin Cities

"This newly opened South Minneapolis spot with a French flair is tucked inconspicuously away in a new construction building across from the iconic Aqualand Aquarium Center, but it’s not to be missed. It has three deliciously sippable bone broths on its menu: chicken, beef, and vegetarian portobello mushroom. Takeout is available, for those who want to drink up their soup on the go." - Cinnamon Janzer

Wow, came here to celebrate a birthday and was blown away by the amazing service from Connor and the food was AMAZING!!! The restaurant is so clean and all the food is so fresh. They make OJ and bacon, sauces, etc in house so delicious. We got the house Benedict, smoked chicken commercial, and the Madame Cristo. All fabulous and perfect amount of food. We also got OJ, the dirty lemonade, and salted butterscotch latte!! Yum. Cannot recommend this place enough and ask for Connor to be your server he is the best!!

My friend and I went to brunch here last week and had an amazing experience. I tried the chicken bone broth, and the biscuits and gravy. She had the smoked salmon Benedict and some oysters. All was incredible. Our waitress was very warm and helpful with suggestions! Seriously 5 stars all around - will be returning.

I just ate for the first time at Stonegarden and wow! From the food to the drinks, everything is so delicious and FRESH. I had attentive, friendly service from Connor and Katie, and Trevor's food is really creative, and full of flavor. There is definitely something for everyone here. Highly recommend starting with the broth and trying the espresso martini (best I've had - made with actual espresso!) Definitely recommend this restaurant.

My friend and I came to this wonderful place for breakfast. In my opinion, this is the best place in Minnesota. I had a fresh croissant with fish. The cappuccino was not professionally prepared, but nevertheless it did not spoil the impression. Therefore, I strongly recommend visiting here.

A friend and I met up at Stonegarden and had a wonderful time. The sunlight from their corner spot is fantastic, the styling is fresh, the food was wonderful and the cocktails were leveled up. The staff were so kind, giving this new spot the perfect vibe. We have many other cocktails and menu items we want to try and will definitely be back…. Multiple times. 😉

I think I would rate this as a five star, but this is only my first visit. Nice new place, bright and airy. I had the biscuits and gravy, with a side of potatoes. Doll had the French toast with shredded pork and a scrambled egg on top, they call it a madame cristo. Met the owners Andrew and Baily, and our server, Connor. I commended the owners on how good the food was as they have only been open for 6 months. The biscuits and gravy was full of sausage and nicely seasoned. The potatoes were really good, slightly smashed and fried golden brown and seasoned just right. Connor was very nice and helpful and helped guide us to his favorites on the menu. The place was pretty loud, Andrew said he was going to add more acoustic tiles on the ceiling to help tone down the volume. We will certainly be back.

Beautiful calm light intentional space. The Norwegian eggs benedict is outstanding with super generous amount of lox on a croissant! Absolutely delicious. The staff is professional and nice with just the right amount of attention. Already planning my next visit.

Google
STONEGARDEN really delivered 👍👍👍👍👍! Superior service by our server Mia who directed us to really great menu choices Ranchers breakfast and the Raspberry pulled pork brioche bread. Colorful Jasmine tea was an interesting & tasty drink! Highly recommend this still relatively new spot in South MINNEAPPLE ….easy access of 35W Diamond Lake exit😎

Yelp
Bit of a homer bias here, but Stonegarden has been a very welcome addition to the neighborhood. From the outside, Stonegarden doesn't look like much, as it's tucked under newly constructed apartments that look like the newly constructed apartments in every other neighborhood, but the dining room is surprisingly large and inviting. It seems that you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but highlights thus far have been the Scotch egg, the French omelette, the chicken commercial and the Norwegian Benedict (and the Espresso Martini). Service has always been very friendly and the owners are clearly very invested in the business - this is a neighborhood spot what we're hoping sticks around for quite some time.

Yelp
A really beautiful space with lots of light coming in through the windows. A great meeting spot! Service was prompt and there were many staff to assist. However, I didn't not feel the food was up to par for the high price. The Benedicts were very basic and don't come with any sides. The smoked ham was quite bland and didn't have much more flavor in the hollandaise sauce. The crab Benedict was great but a small portion. The side of potatoes doesn't even come with any sauce (mayo (an extra $4) or ketchup).

Yelp
Very beautiful space. The dishes were beautifully put together. We had the avocado mousse toast, chicken quinoa salad and omelet with chili. The parking was easy to find. The staff was ok. Great place for a quick meal.

Yelp
I had never heard of this place and randomly came across it when making reservations for valentines day. There's street parking but it's right in the corner and pretty easy to find. Restaurant was clean and neat, I really liked that bar area. Staff was really friendly and accommodating. There was a set menu so no need to order other than drinks. Food and drinks were very beautiful and tasty. One complaint was the wait time between courses but it was a very busy night. Overall great experience for a first time and I'm definitely be going back to try regular menu items.

Yelp
Go here!! Just saying :) I was looking for a new place (new to me) for my sister and I to enjoy brunch and came across Stonegarden. It was Wonderful!! Location: Great location on a corner with plenty of street parking on this Saturday morning at least. The signage is VERY small but look for the apartment building on the corner and it's housed on the bottom floor. LOTS of windows and a fantastic, calm, beautiful space inside. The decor is soft and clean and lends itself to a wonderful dining experience. They also have reservations which is terrific! Service: Excellent service from the host to the server to food runners and people busing dishes. Friendly, warm, terrific pacing as well! Food/Drinks: It was almost impossible to pick what we wanted to eat since everything looked tasty, but we tried a decent amount for our first trip! We started with the Beef Bone Sipping Broth. I would recommend as a beautiful start to your meal! It is warm and flavorful! We also did the 4-Bs Tartine which is essentially a "toast". It was probably our favorite thing in a meal filled with excellent dishes! It was absolutely incredible flavor, well-balanced, and super satisfying! Next we couldn't decide so had 3 entrees: Norwegian Benedict (beautiful croissant, amazing house-cured gravlox, and a yummy dijon-dill Hollandaise), Biscuit and gravy (big biscuit and lots of gravy with a lovely egg on top - I liked it but felt it was missing the level of flavor I would have expected based on our other dishes), and finally the Belgium waffles (crispy with a nice raspberry compote - also good but I think I would try the French Toast next time). We also had an n/a Bloody Mary (fantastic and fresh with great spice level), French Press coffee (excellent and strong/rich), and a Golden Latte (tasty and not too sweet)! This was a wonderful place and a beautiful dining experience to start the weekend! Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Stonegarden is the perfect brunch spot if you are looking for aesthetic vibes and pictures. I felt like I was on the west coast with the stylized furnishings and ambiance. They will push you to try the bone broth, but I was underwhelmed. The chicken option lacked flavor. The Stonegarden Benedict was quite good, and was clearly made fresh. I highly recommend the potatoes as a side. The staff were highly attentive and helped answer any questions we had. Plan ahead for street parking!

Yelp
FOOD: Their food is delicious! I recommend getting the sippable bone broth. It arrived to our table temperature hot, but after allowing it to cool down, it tasted amazing! I also had their French toast, which was amazing. You can taste the vanilla and cinnamon. The maple syrup compliments the French toast well. I also tried their cinnamon spiced latte, which was slightly strong, but still flavorful. I was happy to know that they could make my drink with oat milk. SERVICE: Our waitress was very professional and knowledgeable about the food items. With my family present, she was patient and flexible. The day we went was a Sunday, which was busy. The staff members seem professional, calm, and there was a lot of teamwork going on. As for parking - it was street parking. I think I parked about a block away from the restaurant. The restaurant is also located near residential area. It is casual dining. The place was very clean, modern, and welcoming. Overall, I would like to come back to try more of their food. Great dining experience, delicious food, I highly recommend everyone to visit at least once.

Yelp
Yes! Yes! Yes! I found this on NY Day. We were looking for somewhere for a Kate brunch on a weekday and this place popped up. From the space--bright, airy, and fresh, to the drinks--thoughtful and unique AND they do freshly squeezed grapefruit, to the great breakfast creation, I'll def be back. I had the poutine. My only critique is they could have gone a bit lighter on the gravy. Otherwise. Yummy. I would also love a build your own poutine where I could add my own toppings. Maybe next time. Oh and bartender Abe is great. Sit at the bar for great banter.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant; gots of greenery & good light from all the windows. Parking can be a bear (esp w/ snow on the ground). The menu is chock full of delicious GF offerings! Tasty drinks. Delicious, beautiful food & great service. The noise level when they are busy makes it difficult to hear other soft-spoken diners (even at a 4-top).

Yelp
We loved everything about this restaurant . Very clean, modern decor but it felt welcoming. The staff was very attentive and helpful in choosing what to order. I ordered the very popular espresso martini. It was smooth and not too alcoholic. It was a tad sweet for my tastes, but I think that I am just not an espresso martini drinker. We shared a crab cake, which was excellent. My dining companion used to live in Baltimore and is choosey about her crab cakes- she thought it was one of the best she's had in the Twin Cities. My main course was the gravlax tartine (Cured salmon over toast). the salmon was tender and not too salty- I liked that it was not super thin. Everything about the experience was excellent. Highly recommend

Yelp
The ambience is calm, modern, relaxing and beautiful without being pretentious. Our service was attentive and paced well with our desire to sample several items. Portion sizes were perfect with leftovers to be enjoyed later. We enjoyed all of our courses, turmeric latte, coffee and Bloody Mary.

Yelp
Had the ranchers eggs to go. This was unexpectedly delicious! This is their take on chilaquiles. I wasn't sure what to expect when I opened the box of a mishmash of textures and colors. I took my first bite of tortilla chips, eggs, chorizo, guac, and beans, and it was dancing in my mouth! The tangy lime-saturated chips were unlike anything I've had. I would absolutely have this dish again! I'd love to dine in next time in the beautiful space.

Yelp
I met a former coworker for coffee and it was fantastic. We both ordered americanos and they were perfection. They have a menu that looks absolutely delicious so I am excited to go back and try some of the food. The service was fantastic. The waiter we had was attentive but not ontop of us. The entire design is so light and airy and well just fantastic. I will be back.

Yelp
If you haven't been here, you are missing out. When you walk in, you will notice it smells brand new and interior design is light and bright. At first I thought the idea of serving broth was cheap, but this broth is so flavorful and perfect for a cold day in Minnesota. Plus it is only $5. You are encouraged to sip straight from the bowl. The gravlax tartine I had was loaded with tender salmon, flavors popped and textures were great. You can tell the people working here care about this place and are proud of what they serve. Their service was great. The golden latte was also very flavorful and the cold press great without cream or sugar. Highly recommend going here. We will be back for sure

Yelp
The Stonegarden is located on the corner across from a gas station, it was very easy to find. I found parking on the street to be easy and this is coming from someone who lives in a small town and was dreading having to find a parking spot. We came on a Sunday at 10 am. We had reservations. Our waiter was very helpful with suggestions. The food was delicious and arrived in a timely manner. We can't wait to have an opportunity to be back in Minneapolis and go again.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem in south Minneapolis! You walk into a beautiful bright, clean and simple atmosphere. The service all around is top notch from the host, to the bartender, and the server. Everything is made in house. The French press coffee is delicious, the bloody tastes healthy (they use their vegetable broth and homemade tomato recipe), and the food is outstanding. I ordered the ranchers eggs and my partner got the Maryland Benedict which was a crab cake with hollandaise sauce. He said it was the best crab cake and sauce he has ever had and he's had crab cakes on both coasts! The rancher's eggs were exploding with flavor and I ordered their homemade hot sauce with it too. Super excited they will be serving dinner soon! Can't wait to go back!!

Yelp
Absolutely delightful experience. The light and fresh ambiance, the pleasantness of the staff, complexity of the food, the smooth and well balanced drinks, and the warm and tasty bone broth made the fall morning adventure perfect! We will absolutely be back and bring others along!! (PS Thanks to our waiter, Abraham, we enjoyed your enthusiasm and energy! )

Yelp
Terrible experience! We went for breakfast on a Thursday. The restaurant was hard to find, and I wish I didn't find it. When we tried to order just black coffee, they had Americano, $5, or French Press, $10, coffee. My girl got an Americano, and we ordered eggs benedict and something called the Mediterranean with figs and prosciutto. We were both hungry and while $15 for each item seemed decent, when the food arrived, I just started laughing. The eggs benedict was just egg benedict. One biscuit, one egg, one strip of bacon, and a little hollandaise. Nothing else. It was actually served to us in a little bowl...lol The Mediterranean was on open faced sandwich with a couple of figs cut up on it with some smear and the prosciutto laid on top. It was a cold cut sandwich missing another piece of bread. (Maybe this place is just too high brow for me, but I just didn't see the value.) But it got much worse when the manager came over and asked about our meal and I told them I didn't see the value and the portions were tiny for the price. She said but they were so proud of their made from scratch food! And I said that's fine, but unless they have someone in the back laying the eggs, the prices were still out of line. She then told me I wasn't being nice... I let her know that it may not seem nice to get complaints, but instead of trying to help, she shouldn't impose value judgements on the customer. We then had had enough, and I asked for a box for the food, and she rang up our bill and gave us a box. All that would have been fine, but then some guy who was working at the bar area, engaged us on the way out and asked about our experience and what could have been better. I let him know my concerns, and he told me that, "we would be better off at Denny's next time!" I was half out the door when he said that. I stopped, and told him to keep the garbage food that we had boxed up and I threw him the box. He then called me a few names, and I invited him to go and have sex with himself. The end result is if you want to go somewhere and get treated rudely and have decent food at exorbitant prices, this is the place for you...

Yelp
Great service and the Norwegian Benedict was absolutely amazing- they smoke their own salmon! Can't recommend highly enough.

Yelp
I've been here several times and the food is amazing. Everything is so fresh and the broth doesn't disappoint.

Yelp
The service, food and beverages were everything I hoped they would be. So happy to have this gem in our neighborhood!

Yelp
I am so happy that this place is in the neighborhood. The space is so open and bright with all of the windows. When you walk in you are instantly greeted. Staff was friendly and the owner even came by to chat for a bit. We had a salad, butternut squash soup and chicken broth. All were fantastic. That soup though ....YUM! This will be a frequent place for us.

Yelp
Food and services were very good. Atmosphere was warm and cozy.Had a pleasant breakfast with my Son on Sunday morning.

Yelp
Stopped in there for brunch today a little before noon after seeing them on the KARE 11 show yesterday. Knew we were kind of pressing our luck going in there on a Sunday for brunch, but the hostess was very kind and offered us two great seats at the bar. This worked out great. The bar staff was wonderful, very attentive and even though the place was full and busier Than you can imagine we had great service. The owner even came over twice and spoke to us. Bloody Mary was excellent as was the bone broth and one of the Benedict's that I tried. My wife had the onion omelette, which was delicious and a order of the fresh green salad. All of it was delicious and she wanted to try the gravlox but they were out. Very bright spacious and airy atmosphere. Bartender even gave us an extra bloody Mary they made by mistake at no charge. Next time I will be trying the Biscuits and gravy like the guy who sat next to us had. He said it was excellent. Veteran and family owned business which we like as well as a great South Minneapolis spot.!

Yelp
Great tasting food mostly made from scratch. Healthy options. Phenomenal service. We will be back!

Sarah T.

Yelp
Best espresso martini I have ever had. The bone broth is the perfect starter to your meal and the 4 B's Tartini was phenomenal. The atmosphere is beautiful and so relaxing. I would definitely recommend a brunch with the girls or breakfast date here

Tracey S.

Yelp
Best brunch spot! How lucky are we in Hale/Field neighborhood to have this in walking distance? We've been 3 times in 3 weeks. Loved every beverage, broth, and brunch item. Let's go!!!'

Lynda N.

Yelp
Every aspect of this young restaurant was delightful! Friendly, informed staff and the space is open and airy. The menu is a vast array of innovative creations a level above the usual. It was a memorable Christmas gift to each other

Evan M.

Yelp
Excellent addition to the Hale neighborhood. Nice selection of breakfast and lunch options, delicious flavors, and fair prices. Not to mention and absolutely gorgeous space with plenty of natural light. We sat at the bar and were well taken care of. We got to meet Andrew and plan to go back very soon.
