This place is really cool and offers a variety of unique ceramic-related products. You’ll find many ready-made items as well as materials to create your own, like paints and ceramic pieces to decorate or customize however you’d like. The space also features a dedicated area where you can craft your own mug or dish on-site, using either your own materials or those provided by the store. They have tables available for this, which you can book in advance. It’s a great experience, with fair pricing. You can access this shop through The Coffee, a restaurant. Simply walk through the restaurant to find the store inside.

Stoneware & Co. is my go-to for meaningful, lasting gifts. I love shopping here—everything is beautiful, functional, and locally made. Their pieces always make a lasting impression. My favorite gift to give (and receive!) is the Louisville Pottery Collection wine chiller. It fits any style of decor and does double duty as a vase or a wine chiller. You really can’t go wrong—this place is a local gem!

The wife is from Kentucky and our dinner set is from here. We visit the area a few times a year and make it a point to stop in. Their commitment to quality and variety is second to none. This time I discovered they have a small history museum also!! Off to the side they hold decorating classes and also offer custom stoneware. It is the perfect place to find a gift for the hard to buy for friend or relative.

Good food in a very cool atmosphere. Enjoyed a jazz trio during our late breakfast. Spoke with the Manager who was actively talking to many customers. This space has a lot of History and we love what they are doing with it.

One of the most memorable parts of my visit to Louisville was taking a tour of this 100 yr old plus pottery factory. The tour takes you through the entire process. Because of the clay used, it has been microwave-proof from the throwing of the first pot. Meet the true craftspeople who take pride in the creation of each piece. After the tour, shop in their expansive shop. This is a must for any visit to this historic river town.

Such a delight to visit this place. Everything is displayed so attractively. The quality of these products will last for generations Timeless designs are so classy and beautiful. A great place to buy a unique gift for that hard to buy person. It would be a gift well received

Grew up in louisville. Have been away for 14 years. Always love coming back and coming to the stoneware company. So many great memories love to see their new designs.

Google
Beautiful storefront of a historic stoneware manufacturer. The "paint your own" stoneware workshop is fun for all ages and has better pricing, instruction, and selection of quality pieces and paints than standalone pottery studios in the area.

Yelp
Every year my family and I visit the Paristown Christmas Market and stopping in to Stoneware & Co is always a must. Getting a piece of their Kentucky Pie Bar has become tradition for us, this is the best derby pie I've ever had, truly a great treat to grab while you're walking through the market! See you next year! We'll be back for another piece soon!

Yelp
My husband and I came here to do a paint your own pottery and had the best experience! You paint directly on the greenware which is different from most other pottery painting studios. We had a very quick turn around time and our piece turned out awesome! The price was great for such a cool and special piece! I really appreciate the employees who gave us tips on how to make our piece turn out how we wanted!

Yelp
Amazing place in Paristown. Stoneware & Co. has something for everyone. Beautiful location with its own little history museum. A great place to take out of town guests before or after a meal at the adjoining Cafe. Everyone here was so helpful and pleasant. A great place for gifts or a great place to "treat yourself ".

Martha S.

Yelp
Everything went well. They persuaded the idea I needed. And they shipped it for free.

Yelp
Have not been to what originally was Louisville Stoneware in quite a while. I love the new Stoneware & Co Mercantile shop and it's beautifully decorated for the holidays. This is a great place to visit if you are looking for gifts for others, or maybe one for yourself! They have a great selection of culinary type gifts (sauces, jams, kitchen towels, cookbooks) which would be great to pair with a Stoneware piece. They even have local bourbon and art available, including blown glass from artist Chad Balster. Check it out!

Yelp
Stoneware & Co. is an awesome local spot to do some shopping. The pieces from this shop make such awesome gifts. They're so beautiful, plus you can get them personalized, so they're really great for anniversaries, weddings, and other meaningful events. Of course they have kitchen items, which I think is what everyone's mind goes to when they think of Louisville Stoneware. They have mugs, plates, pie plates, bowls, etc. But, they also have so much more! They have items for your garden (like pots and even birdhouses!), vases, pet bowls, and they even offer items to go with the stoneware, such as pie fillings, preserves, apple butter, and more! They have amazing merchandise year round, and they always have holiday specific items as well. If you're looking for a great place to shop, or you're in the market for a unique and meaningful gift, I think Stoneware & Co. is a great place to check out!

Yelp
I ordered a desk nameplate online for my wife which I knew that she would like because she has ordered them in the past for coworkers. About two weeks after my order I learned that her title was going to be different than originally planned, and ordered. I called to request that a change be made to my order without much hope. The person on the phone told me that I would have to send an email since it was an online order and gave me the email address. To my surprise I received a fast response and they were able to accommodate this change. When I picked it up I thought it looked great but more importantly when I gave it to my wife she thought it looked great. Great customer service, great and unique products for a decent price by today's standards.

Yelp
What a cute store! We popped in here during a nearby Yelp event. Stoneware & Co. has all kinds of goodies for your home, or if you're looking for some great gifts to give! What you'll find in here are kitchenware, bourbon and food products, and also some cool items you can get personalized. The store is kind of hidden, but don't let that stop you from coming in! The building it is in does not show off all the charm it has on the inside. This is also a really cool place to find some Kentucky or Louisville themed items!

Yelp
Perfect spot to find a unique gift. All the stoneware used to be blue and white but there are different options and colors now so you can find something modern or classic. Pricey but so fun looking around. Check out the sale table--pieces are very marked down for minor chips or cracks. I got a mug for $5 because it had a tiny chip on the rim (that honestly looks like a lot of my mugs at home) so worth it!

Yelp
Need a gift? Want to treat yourself? Stoneware (formerly known as Louisville Stoneware) is the perfect place to do that! If you've never been here, you'll be surprised to find this tucked away near the intersection of Broadway and Barret. Inside, you'll find plates, desk accessories, ornaments, mugs, vases, serving platters, picture frames, and so much more. Their stoneware items have various patterns and designs. I personally love the University of Louisville items and often gift them for graduates. I've also stopped in here many times when I can't figure out what to gift someone. This is also the perfect place to find a gift when you're visiting someone or someone is visiting you, and you want to give them a thank you/welcome gift; it is very Louisville while still being functional. Additionally, you can shop online! Andddd you can personalize certain items. I often shop online (especially if personalizing), and then pick up in store. I believe they also do classes and stuff here, but I haven't done any of that (yet). They do have parking here; it's not a ton, but I've never had a problem!

Yelp
For local flavor, Stoneware & Co is a must-visit in Louisville. When I was growing up, it was known as Louisville Stoneware, and the location for finding the iconic ceramic wear down off of Baxter felt like a workshop. The location has matured since then, while the style has remained classic, and you'll love browsing the (stone)wares in search of that perfect gift. My most recent visit was in search of a Christmas gift for close friends in France this year. I wanted something iconic Louisville that they would enjoy, and Stoneware & Co was on the short list of places to visit for just such an item. If I had been shopping for myself, I probably would have gotten one of everything in the store, or as much as my credit card limit would allow. I especially loved the measuring and mixing bowls in a classic off-white and beige accent. For gifting, though, I decided on some beautiful mugs with a blue fleur de lis. Practical enough for everyday use, and elegant enough to stand out, they are also small enough to fit safely in my carryon for the trip. Bonus points that the fleur de lis pays homage to the long history between Louisville and France, making it pretty much a perfect gift. No matter what occasion you are shopping for, Stoneware & Co will have something that is sure to make you and the recipient happy!

Yelp
Stopped in after lunch nearby and was blown away. The exterior's entrance is a simple welcoming to the shop. Pottery, food items, candles...I love the fleur de lis pottery, the bird houses, and all the derby ware. I couldn't decide what I wanted. I'll have to come back sometime soon! The staff were very friendly.

Yelp
Beautiful stoneware and you will pay for that quality. For me, this is a buy a couple pieces every time I visit. Which I do plan on visiting often!!!!!

Yelp
Recently my daughter and I invited our inner child to "Paint Your Own Pottery" at Louisville Stoneware. It was a wonderful experience, enhanced by the expert guidance provided by the store associate Meg Robey. We relaxed, laughed, and painted our stoneware in the lovely studio area of the shop. I highly recommend this delightful activity for all ages. After painting we browsed the beautiful and varied selections offer in the Stoneware shop. We topped our afternoon off with a delicious lunch at The Cafe. If you have not been to the newly remodeled location in Paristown, do yourself a favor and check it out!

Yelp
I love this place! After seeing Rachel F.'s review. My interest in this place was renewed. I knew hubby always wanted to have a paint-your-own experience. We came here last week and just fell in love with Louisville Stoneware's approachable folk art. The process is simple and natural: clay, water and fire. Add a little artistic flair, the clay is transformed into usable, durable art. The $25/person tour includes a tour of the factory and $20 worth of green ware you can paint to your liking which they will fire after. The studio fee is included in the price. If you have been to other "paint your own" in town, you know it is a better deal here. If you are familiar with painting, go for it free handed; if you are not, there are plenty of stencils or stamps for you to choose from. We just got our pieces back and could not be happier! And if you do not want your friends/relatives to suffer your handiwork, the gift shop has endless choices from ornaments to big party bowls and platters. You can get a UK or U of L snack tray for less than $50. They will make great presents. I know we will be back for more painting and gift buying.

Yelp
Excellent selection, excellent quality. You can buy a mug anywhere. You can probably get one for a buck at a big box store. Why buy one here? Simply put; quality. Everything is made by hand with care at Stoneware & Co/Louisville Stoneware. They've been making these wares for decades and have consistently prided themselves on delivering quality. There is something special about owning a product that you have a connection to. This is a Louisville business that has been operating for years creating mugs, plates platters, and much more. People order their products from all over the country- but you've got the retail store here in your backyard. You're owning a part of the city when you shop here. Not to mention the selection! There is so much to choose from. And there are rotating choices depending on the season. You'll see lots of derby and horse-themed items in the spring. And lots of holiday items in the fall/winter. Of course, they have bourbon-themed items year-round. And much more. Take a look at the photos on this business page and you'll see how much variance there is in painted designs on the wares. You can find something festive and colorful. Or something classy and demure. You can find patterned items, as well as items with quirky phrases painted on them. You can find plates, cups, mugs, bowls, platters, ramekins, and other dishes. They also offer other items such as canned pickles, holiday decorations, rocks glasses, and much more! Highly recommend checking this place out!

Yelp
I have never been inside before and was thrilled to see they have a factory and store and a paint your own pottery! I had no idea! I will be back to do some painting on this beautiful pottery!

Yelp
Louisville Stoneware is a staple in this city and as a born and raised Louisvillian, The stoneware has resided in my cabinets for as long as I remember... Actually since I was born. My parents bought be a child's set of stoneware with my name on it and I still have it in my "china cabinet" ... also known as the top corner of my dishes cabinet. I have bought many stoneware gifts for my friends and family over the years. To me there is something special and unique about the stoneware. How could you go wrong with a derby pie plate or a hot brown plate? Both with the recipes on them. The answer is, you can't. Everyone appreciates a Louisville Stoneware gift. It's also just fun to peruse and look at all the artistic creations. You can see how much time and effort and love is put into each set and pattern. If for some reason they mess up you can find the "seconds" in the back room for a discounted price. It's a great place to start looking if you are shopping for a gift or for yourself. Louisville Stoneware has made a dent in this city that will never go away. Anyone who has lived here most of their lives has something from there with their name or business on it (even my dog food bowl is a Louisville stoneware special). If you are looking for China or a gift or something "Louisville" you've got to make a pit stop at Louisville Stoneware. You can also make custom orders and their customer service is great. Don't let the facade trick you, the inside is a magical world of beautiful art that come in all shapes and sizes.

Yelp
Went here last weekend for a paint your own pottery party. Storefront 4: The front shop is as adorable/impressive as I expected it to be. An excellent place to stop by if you want to buy yourself something nice or if you're looking a great local gift. They have a lot a very simple clean designs. Paint your own pottery 2.5: The paint your own pottery part was frusterating. The color range is highly limited, and it seemed like there were a lot of ways to accidentally mess up a piece (so definitely not child friendly). They don't bisque before they give you the pieces, so the pieces are fragile. You also can't touch the bottom (there's an ink stamp), so holding it can be tricky if you want to do something intricate. For me a lot of the fun of painting is being really creative and Stoneware & Co. isn't really set up for that.

Yelp
I absolutely love the quality of Louisville Stoneware. The showroom has so much to choose from. You're sure to find something for each person on your gift list. The prices are not cheap but you get what you pay for. My goal for 2013 is not to just pick up a couple of presents here but to take the time to take the factory tour which includes studio time, materials and a choice of products that you can paint yourself. You'll read my experience in a 2013 updated review.

Yelp
Established in 1815, this shop is a staple of Louisville. I had no idea to the extent until taking the tour and painting (quite badly) my very one piece of stoneware. Everything is done in house with absolute care. From the clay that they carefully purchase locally, to the gentle press to extract the water, to the handpainted pieces. Yup. They are all painstakingly painted. At first, the price tags seemed a little higher than I would have preferred. But then once I realized how fantastic and special they were, I got it. All of it can be cooked in the oven, then put directly in the fridge even - which if you cook more than I do you know, is quite rare, as most will crack! The tour would be a cool place to take Louisville visitors or for a birthday (or even bachelorette) party, check out the painting. Not only will you get your very own piece to commemorate the event, but the teachers are fun, and the options are truly endless - I felt like I was 5, filled with glee over being able to pick from a hundred different stamps and stencils. It was such a good time, that my feelings weren't even hurt when there were literally 7 year olds with better artwork than mine. That's okay, I'll be back to show them up!

Yelp
Someone gave me a Louisville Stoneware casserole dish many years ago that is frequently admired by dinner guests. I ordered two of these casserole dishes on Decembern12th as Christmas gifts. The company website does state that production time could be as long as two weeks, plus these were being shipped out of state. Little did I know that they would finally both arrive roughly seven weeks later on February 1st. I understand that production issues and delays happen, which are disappointing but it was the horrific customer service and complete lack of communication that was the most upsetting. I had to call three times to get updates on production and delivery and wrote customer service directly regarding my issues with no acknowledgement or apology. Although promised, I did not get a single tracking notification from this company when the items were finally shipped, UPS notified me through my business account. Stoneware & Co (aka Louisville Stoneware) badly needs to up it's game on online orders, communication and customer service. With embarrassment, I will deliver these two Christmas to my friends in person today, almost 2 months late.

Yelp
They have undergone a name change (if you are searching). They are now simply 'Stoneware'. Personally, I liked the identifier 'Louisville' in the name, however, the staff readily explained the change came about as they offer many different products now. Hmm. To boost sales, or ...? I purchased one personalized child plate, $78. A bit expensive, hence the confusion on adding other product and changing name....

Yelp
This is such a cool place been here 5 or 6 times now for simple gifts or things for my house. Truly pure art but with humor often in mind S well. Got yet another pumpkin for Anita who loves these fall things to decorate the house. Long curvy stem but it made it back to FL in spite of the fact the TSA goons went through my bag roughly once again (once broke a well packed Derby glass. Anyway nothing super cheap here but plenty of cool things in the $30 or less range. People shopping for wedding presents and I realized my girl had a set of stoneware from this place on her shelves. Nice stuff check it out!!

Yelp
My father gave me a mug from Louisville Stoneware that formed a crack in the bottom of the mug. This was a mug my father physically purchased from inside the store, not an online order. We had both called Louisville Stoneware to ask for a replacement, which they denied. It was very unfair to me as a customer that they wouldn't stand by the craftsmanship of their products. BUYER BEWARE with this company! Also, my father left them negative feedback regarding same a few months ago through yelp, and somehow Louisville Stoneware was able to have his feedback removed. So, don't trust the reviews for this business! I still wait for Louisville Stoneware to make good on this defective mug!

Yelp
I've always been familiar with Louisville Stoneware, and like it as a general rule. Over the years, I've picked up a few pieces at thrift stores, and vintage boutiques and love the versatility, style and usability in my home. All pieces have held up really well, even after multiple moves. A few months back, I got this idea to collect Louisville Stoneware julep cups for my mother in law, after finding one at a sale for $4.00, here in Northern Kentucky. She has a little Derby Party each year and I thought "what a perfect early mother's day gift!" After searching high and low, and finding 5 at varying prices at various places (even Georgetown, KY), I hopped on Louisville Stoneware's website and saw that they had julep cups for sale (at a considerably higher price than I've paid thus far, but I've exhausted my search options, Derby day is quickly approaching, and I'm excited to give this gift to my mother in law!), so I emailed and received a very kind response, and when I called to place my order, the one I chose (the twin spires of Churchill downs) was in stock, and had just come out of the kiln this very morning after being sold out for several weeks. The customer service agent, Alexa, couldn't have been more helpful, or more kind--in fact, she was the original responder to my email regarding in stock cups if I chose to drive the hour south to Louisville. I'm very pleased with my experience and will happily visit the shop when I get back to the 'ville.

Chris S.

Yelp
Had an okay experience here. Nothing out of the ordinary. Expensive stoneware that looks generic.
google avatar

Jill V.

Yelp
I love stoneware as a general rule, and I can see why people would like this place. That said, the glaze patterns that were currently offering didn't really appeal to me. I had a Groupon, though, for their paint-your-own-pottery, so I tried that out. It was a lot of fun, and it is something that I would do again for a splurge (pricing was a bit high). I picked up the plate that I decorated yesterday, and I really like it. So, for me personally, I like the pottery shapes, but not the professional-glazed designed... which means that I will probably opt for the paint-your-own option for any future purchases.

Yelp
Would not accept own gift cards. They said it expired. When calling the card company they said that funds are still active and not in fact expired. Very shady. Used to be a nice factory store. Now not so much and just upon one glance at their prices will tell you that. Prices are astronomical now.

Yelp
Ordered a Christmas gift on December 13th. Received email confirmation on December 20th: billed on December 20th / shipped on December 20th. We live in Kentucky. Today is December 26. Never received the presents. I have tried multiple numbers to reach Louisville Stoneware and every time I got the busy signal. I asked for tracking number , ship date, etc. Got an electronic reply from customer service if my wife's name was Cindy or Betty. I replied this morning and never received a courtesy response. Louisville Stoneware has awesome products. Please be advised of their terrible Customer Service Department and lack of accountability to resolve on-line order issues in a speedy manner. We received the re-ordered Christmas gifts today, January 5th.

Yelp
I'm glad I discovered this place. I was very pleased with the pieces I purchased today. They have quite a few selection with specific themes related to Louisville KY. The folks here were very friendly and helpful. It certainly made my experience a memorable one. Thank you.

Yelp
Amazing how long these people have been in business. Great customer service and unique products. Worth your time!

Yelp
This place is a treasure to visit. The front and showroom are beautiful and modern. I wouldn't normally make a big deal out of parking but it was nice to find a decent sized lot--I was expecting to have to park on the street. I love how the pottery is displayed in collections so you can find pieces to match and there are so many options for gifts. Recently, some coworkers and I took advantage of the paint your own pottery option. Ours didn't turn out quite like the pieces they sell, of course, but they are all cute. It was fun to pick from all the options and the staff members were nice and helpful.

Yelp
Be careful if you buy there! They have no specific return policy to protect you if you get stuck with defective merchandise. A simple mug which I purchased about 8 months ago developed an inside crack which left an ugly brown line in the bottom of the mug. I visited the store and told the sales person about the defective mug. I sensed that the sales person wanted to replace the mug for me but did not have the authority to do so. I was told to return the defective mug to the store and the "production manager" would make a decision. This meant a 2nd trip to the store, so I purchased a replacement mug at full price and forgot about it. After all, it was only a simple mug. As it turns out, I did return to the store after a few weeks armed with a picture of the defective mug. The "production manager" says "how do I know that you did not do something to cause the crack"? Do think I'm a liar? I responded that the mug was only used a few times to make tea and I did nothing to cause the crack. I also said that it would be the right thing to refund the purchase price or replace the mug. The production manager refused to do anything and walked away. All of this was over a single moderately priced mug for which the production manager did not want to accept any responsibility. What do you think would happen if it was an expensive item? The people at Louisville Stoneware are not interested in building customer good will or willing to take any responsibility if a defect shows itself after the sale is made. As I said earlier, it is only a mug but their lack of principle and good manners angers me. I will now forget about it but I will never again buy another item from Louisville Stoneware. One other observation: There are some glowing reviews on Yelp about Louisville Stoneware. I makes me wonder how many of those "glowing" reviews are self posts.
