Beautiful church, chock-a-block with art from across the centuries, floor memorials worn beyond reading, baroque decor, and just general beauty. Interesting, compared to churches in the UK and to the south, the aesthetic impact of (visible) brick construction. Accessible via the Go City card. Worth picking up the little brochure (multiple languages) as a guide. Definitely worth the visit.

Storkyrkan, also known as Stockholm Cathedral, is one of the most impressive historic landmarks in the heart of Gamla Stan. Blending Gothic and Baroque architecture, the cathedral offers a truly captivating atmosphere both historically and artistically. As you step inside, you’re greeted by soaring ceilings, beautiful wooden details, and magnificent pillars. One of its most famous highlights is the statue of Saint George and the Dragon, which showcases incredible craftsmanship and intricate details. The cathedral’s stained-glass windows fill the interior with soft, colorful light, creating a serene and peaceful ambiance. Dating back to the 13th century, Storkyrkan has hosted numerous important events over the centuries, including royal weddings and religious ceremonies. For anyone interested in Swedish royal history, it offers fascinating insights. A visit to Gamla Stan wouldn’t be complete without stopping here. The entrance fee is reasonable, photography is allowed inside, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Whether you’re a lover of history, architecture, or art, Storkyrkan is one of the best places to experience the soul of Stockholm. Highly recommended.

Having seen the statue of George and the Dragon in stone on the street during a city tour, seeing the original in wood was a must see, it does not disappoint. The inside is full of fantastic carvings including some Lutheran angels (you’ll have to do the audio tour or google this).

This is a fantastic spot, both for photography and for exploring Stockholm’s rich history. The exterior is perfect for a photo shoot, with beautiful architecture that really stands out. Inside, the cathedral is stunning—full of detail and atmosphere. I really love this area; it’s right in the heart of the Old Town and definitely a place you shouldn’t miss while exploring. A must-see in Stockholm!

We visited Storkyrkan Cathedral while stopping in Stockholm for the day during our cruise, and it was one of the highlights of our time in the city. Located right next to the Royal Palace in Gamla Stan, this cathedral is impossible to miss—with its rare pink exterior that really stands out among the other historic buildings. It’s not just eye-catching from the outside—the interior is absolutely worth the visit. There’s a 60 SEK entrance fee (or free with the Stockholm Pass), and I’d definitely say it’s money well spent. The inside is both peaceful and awe-inspiring, filled with gorgeous Gothic brickwork, soaring ceilings, and beautiful stained-glass windows. The royal pews are especially ornate, and the silver altar is incredibly detailed and unlike anything we’ve seen in other European cathedrals. One of the most impressive features is the original wooden sculpture of Saint George and the Dragon. It’s life-sized and carved with stunning detail—it’s not just a religious piece, but also a powerful symbol of Sweden’s historic struggle for independence. Even if you’re not a history buff, the craftsmanship alone makes it worth seeing. Since the cathedral is right next to the Nobel Museum and Stortorget square, it’s easy to include in your walking tour of the Old Town. We were short on time due to the cruise schedule, but we were so glad we prioritized this stop. Storkyrkan is Stockholm’s oldest church, dating back to the 1200s, and it still plays an important role in Swedish royal events today—including weddings and coronations. Whether you’re into architecture, history, or just love a good photo spot, don’t skip this one!

I visited this beautiful church early in the morning. I booked tickets in advance and only options for that day for 9AM, but there were few people with me, so I do not know whether it gets crowded afterwards or no. The church itself is beautiful, take the brochure to know the history of the things you'll see at the church.

Nice church and despite the general cramped nature of the old town. The church still stood out in the space it occupied. Well worth a look if your exploring that part of the city

My visit included being part of the church community and ceremony. It was a great experience. As an English speaker, they gave me a brochure that guided me through the process. I was welcome to the communion too. Great people and amazing church experience. The facade of church is Italian baroque, interior is french gothic style. Mesmerizing ❤️

Yelp
It was an interesting church to visit, mostly because of the Gothic style decor. The altar area was adorned in black and silver, rather than the traditional gold. I was a bit disappointed by the entrance fee. I understand having to make money, but I would have preferred to make a donation of my own choosing. Once you bought an entrance fee for the day, though, you could come back as many times as you wanted throughout the day. One treat was the organ player was there while we happened to be walking around, so we got to listen to some music as well.

Yelp
Very nice church to come visit in the Gamla Stan section of Stockholm. It's one of the oldest churches in the city and it's located right outside the main square. There is an admission to see the church of SEK 60 but it's included in the city pass. Worth a visit and recommended.

Yelp
Cool for being a moderate-sized cathedral. Pretty good organs. We walked in on a wedding in process. Well worth visiting with the Stockholm Card. Times visited: 1

Yelp
Great piece of artwork. Some of the Swedish royals were married here. Nice art work inside. When you walk in they ask you to "donate" the admission fees. The insides are kept clean and well maintained. The entire visit shouldn't take more than 30 - 40 minutes and is right in the center of Gamla Stan.
