2 Days in Stockholm

"Colloquially, though incorrectly, referred to as Stockholm Cathedral, this is the city’s oldest church, completed in 1306; originally Catholic until the 16th-century Reformation, it’s now the seat of the Bishop of Stockholm, with an elaborately furnished interior whose pièce de résistance is Bernt Notke’s 15th-century Saint George and the Dragon." - The MICHELIN Guide Nordic Editorial Team

Royal historical landmark. It’s next to the palace and Nobel museum. Royals use the church. We didn’t go in so missed the marvelous architecture and artifacts inside. Bummer !

This review is about Lucia concert only: They placed an uncomfortable, backless bench in a spot with no visibility of the concert, just to sell more tickets and make more money. Elsewhere in the church, chairs were added in the most random places, possibly just to fill the space with people. What we saw of the Santa Lucia concert was 10 seconds after passing through the main aisle. The stage was completely hidden behind pillars. Lamentable, a very bad experience.

The cathedral close to the Royal palace and behind the Nobel museum. Being the church of royal family and the cathedral of church of Sweden, it is quite decorated and mostly painted on golden. The church has many attractions including the state of St George. The alter is made of silver and there are a few wonderful paintings

Storkyrkan, also known as Stockholm Cathedral, is one of the most impressive historic landmarks in the heart of Gamla Stan. Blending Gothic and Baroque architecture, the cathedral offers a truly captivating atmosphere both historically and artistically. As you step inside, you’re greeted by soaring ceilings, beautiful wooden details, and magnificent pillars. One of its most famous highlights is the statue of Saint George and the Dragon, which showcases incredible craftsmanship and intricate details. The cathedral’s stained-glass windows fill the interior with soft, colorful light, creating a serene and peaceful ambiance. Dating back to the 13th century, Storkyrkan has hosted numerous important events over the centuries, including royal weddings and religious ceremonies. For anyone interested in Swedish royal history, it offers fascinating insights. A visit to Gamla Stan wouldn’t be complete without stopping here. The entrance fee is reasonable, photography is allowed inside, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Whether you’re a lover of history, architecture, or art, Storkyrkan is one of the best places to experience the soul of Stockholm. Highly recommended.

Beautiful church, chock-a-block with art from across the centuries, floor memorials worn beyond reading, baroque decor, and just general beauty. Interesting, compared to churches in the UK and to the south, the aesthetic impact of (visible) brick construction. Accessible via the Go City card. Worth picking up the little brochure (multiple languages) as a guide. Definitely worth the visit.

It seems a nice church and historic place but we couldn’t go inside due to an expensive ticket fee.

Beautiful Cathederal in the heart of Gamla Stan. It has unusual pink colour, but once inside it peaceful, decorative. There is usual place light a candle and they also have a place to sit quietly and reflect. It well worth this visit

Having seen the statue of George and the Dragon in stone on the street during a city tour, seeing the original in wood was a must see, it does not disappoint. The inside is full of fantastic carvings including some Lutheran angels (you’ll have to do the audio tour or google this).

Yelp
It was an interesting church to visit, mostly because of the Gothic style decor. The altar area was adorned in black and silver, rather than the traditional gold. I was a bit disappointed by the entrance fee. I understand having to make money, but I would have preferred to make a donation of my own choosing. Once you bought an entrance fee for the day, though, you could come back as many times as you wanted throughout the day. One treat was the organ player was there while we happened to be walking around, so we got to listen to some music as well.

Yelp
Very nice church to come visit in the Gamla Stan section of Stockholm. It's one of the oldest churches in the city and it's located right outside the main square. There is an admission to see the church of SEK 60 but it's included in the city pass. Worth a visit and recommended.

Yelp
Cool for being a moderate-sized cathedral. Pretty good organs. We walked in on a wedding in process. Well worth visiting with the Stockholm Card. Times visited: 1

Yelp
Great piece of artwork. Some of the Swedish royals were married here. Nice art work inside. When you walk in they ask you to "donate" the admission fees. The insides are kept clean and well maintained. The entire visit shouldn't take more than 30 - 40 minutes and is right in the center of Gamla Stan.
