There Will Be Cake: A Very Detailed Guide to Road-Tripping the Canadian Rockies | Bon Appétit

"A small, idyllic resort dating to 1922 composed of impeccably maintained original log cabins with working wood-burning fireplaces, a historic main lodge with a tiny bar and restaurant, a Canadian-lit gift shop, and a reliably crackling wood fire—an old-fashioned, tranquil stay between Banff and Lake Louise." - ByLindsay Anderson

Their Food is FANTASTIC! Cabins are clean and comfy! Main complaint is that you will be fined if they catch you cooking anything inside or outside of your cabin. When I booked the cabin, I understood that there was no kitchen and no means to cook anything during my stay. Since I was staying 2 weeks, I decided to bring my portable BBQ, portable stove top and yeti cooler. Everything was propane run so I wouldn't use their electricity. That way, I could make myself breakfast and maybe some dinners here and there throughout the 2 weeks so I wouldn't have to go eat at restaurants for every single meals for 2 weeks. But when I got there, I was warned that if they caught me cooking anything inside or outside of the cabin, I would be issued a fine. I ended up having to drag everything off site to cook my meals elsewhere and have "picnics" at other locations. I did eat at their restaurant 3 times which was absolutely delicious, but I just can't afford to spend $150 every evening on dinner.

We loved our quaint wooden cabin. It was small but had everything we needed, including a great log fire for drying out after the rain. Lots of wood provided. |The lodge was very comfortable with lovely helpful and friendly staff. One could sit for ages just enjoying the atmosphere. |Dinner in the restaurant was excellent. Breakfast options were very limited though. |Just be aware that a main road runs right by and large Lorrie’s constantly rumble past. So while it is a great hiking area, that particular spot is not peaceful. But we got used to it and really enjoyed our experience because of the charm and the nice staff. |Just

This is our second time staying at the Storm Mountain Lodge. First time was for a surprise proposal, and most recently was us visiting the day after getting married. Both times the cabins have been spectacular. Clean, cozy and easy to check in. We had dinner both times as well, and both times we were treated so well and the food was delicious. We plan to visit every year we can for our anniversary.

We had a lovely three night stay at this fabulous characterful place. it was like stepping back in time in a really nice and authentic way. The staff were superb and helpful at all times. The restaurant is small but perfect and the food is absolutely delicious. A real aurprise with a brilliant chef and team and all served in style by the wonderful Jamie. We can't recommend Storm Mountain Lodge and Cabins highly enough.

Storm Mountain Lodge is a well-preserved time capsule that provides an insight into how visitors to the Rockies would have been accommodated over a century ago while pampering modern-day visitors with fine dining in the Lodge & providing snug cabins with en suite bathrooms. Yes, the road adjacent to the cabins is a little busier now than in the 1920’s but we did not find the traffic noise intrusive, especially not during the night. Each cabin is detached & has its own parking spot & porch with two chairs & a table. Each cabin has a wood burning fireplace with logs, kindling & firestarters provided. There are also ample Adirondack chairs on the property, surrounding the fire pit or facing Storm Mountain, where we enjoyed our complimentary coffee & pastry each morning. We ate at the Lodge three nights in a row & the food is excellent. My wife & I felt like the two characters in the ‘Trip’ movies as we sampled everything on the small but inventive menu. The staff are all friendly & approachable & the bar is well-stocked with local beers, wines & cocktails (Buffalo’s Breath being our recommendation if you like Old Fashioned’s.)

We loved our stay in historic cabin #7 and would definitely return. All of the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Our cabin was as pictured - rustic, simple and cozy. As noted in other reviews, some are set closer to the highway. If that's a deal breaker, ask about location before booking. The Lodge itself is charming and relaxing. We found Storm Mountain Lodge an ideal base camp for our stay. ||The restaurant is lovely. We enjoyed our first meal there so much, we came back the next night. Do book in advance. We got lucky. ||Check out Vista Lake trail right up the road from Storm Mountain. Short hike with big payoff.

The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, making us feel right at home. Our cabin was clean, cozy, and perfect for a mountain retreat. We especially loved relaxing by the fire while taking in the stunning mountain views. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a peaceful and scenic getaway.

We stayed at Storm Mountain Lodge for two nights. Overall, I found the accommodation overpriced for the experience. The cabins are very small and lack comfort. The booking process felt purely transactional, with no warmth or personal touch.|In-room facilities are basic: there were no cabin shoes, no fluffy dressing gowns, no mini fridge, and the towels were well used. There’s a sense of “nickel and diming” with extra charges for firewood and overpriced breakfast items. The rooms are cramped and cluttered—you even have to climb over your partner to get to the toilet. There’s no water provided in the room, and breakfast isn’t included.|Management’s attitude was disappointing; their responses to constructive criticism on booking.com were cold, sometimes rude, and occasionally blamed guests. There’s also noise from the nearby highway.|On the positive side, the food is expensive but good, and the scenery is pleasant and rustic. However, the overall experience did not match the price.
