Brewery destinations around Colorado to visit | Eater Denver

"Steamboat Springs’ Champagne powder is one thing; its beer scene is another. Leave the resort behind and drive to the north side of town for Butcherknife’s award-winning beers, such as the 2018 GABF gold medal-winner Sunshine Express Pale Ale. Every first Tuesday, come for History Happy Hour (think “Drunk History” in real life)." - Monica Stockbridge

Great local brewery nestled between a pizza and bbq joint (you can pick up food from either place and bring it to the brewery.) About 10 seats at the bar, as well as a full covered patio and tables in the brewery provide plenty of room to stretch out. Dog friendly place with a lot of locals makes for a relaxing vibe. Our bartender, Mary Grace, was a breath of fresh air. We tried most of their beers during our stay in Steamboat and each one was well crafted and full of flavor. We even got beer to go! Will DEF stop here again the next time we’re in town. Hopefully you’ll have the opportunity to meet Gus, one of the local pups who makes this place extra special!

Johnny Throckmorton

Google
Great beer with friendly staff who provided knowledgeable recommendations. A Crowler or Growler to-go make a camping trip or visit in the Steamboat area even better. My favorite brewery in Steamboat is worth making a cold pit stop at every visit. My favorite thing about this brewery next to the beer is that it is dog friendly.

Corine Richard

Google
Tried 8 different brews between our two flights and they were all good! Great selection and a lot of IPAs to choose from. Awesome spot and the pizza place next door had amazing food! Will definitely be back next time we visit Steamboat Springs.

Bill Stanton

Google
We really liked this place! Unique offerings, great vibe, and reasonable prices. We went during a busy Friday after a long hike and the service was excellent and accommodating to our family of 6. The attached restaurant was excellent too and shared outdoor seating with this brewery. For the local area, this is a stand-out place and we'd highly recommend a stop. The brew offerings are both traditional AND unique, so we had a lot to meet our palate. We stayed a while and took in the scenery on the upper deck seating as the sun went down. A solid stop and family friendly.

Google
Tasty brews selection and a chill atmosphere. Kombucha was yummy. Lots of fest tables and space. Bluegrass/folk music rockin’. Friendly staff. Nice pizza place next door to pair with your brews. The merch was nice.

Marie King

Google
Great beer. Nice mountain views. The rooftop area is nice. Liked all the beers we had. Really loved the birthday cake stout and guava sour. My husband loved his IPA flight. Would definitely come back. The staff was so friendly and helpful when picking out beers

Google
Great brewery and hangout spot! You can grab a bite from the pizza place next door and bring it over! Dogs welcome too!

Bryan

Google
I enjoy stopping by here when we’re in town. It’s a fun industrial brewery that allows dogs! Great beer, and expanding because the patrons love it. The patio is great in the summer and the new roof deck is a cool addition for this growing business. I love that there’s a pizza place next door to get food as well.

Yelp
Second time to this location this week, and it won't be our last. Even busier than last time, this is clearly where the locals come. Mug club owners and dogs everywhere. We stuck with the same beers as last visit. My wife gets the Kolsch, while I get the dark Mexican lager. Everything is good, and Beertenders are friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Great Steamboat Brewery with amazing selection of craft beers. I loved the double IPA. Friendly servers and a real locals vibe. Be sure to specify the size of beer you want served because they automatically bring you a pint.
google avatar

Max B.

Yelp
Beer was okay. Gal bartender was really rude. No food options, but a few good spots next door.
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
I really enjoy the vibe here with outdoor seating, indoor seating, a large bar there's high tops and large low tables it's a great set up. The bar tenders are helpful and patient with building your flight and ready to answer questions and make recommendations. The bar is varied from IPAs to pilsners there's a little bit of everything. There's no food here but you can bring items in from the restaurant next door which has yummy food.

Yelp
So fun for apres after a great day at the mountain! The Hoochie Mama is the best beer that I have ever had. It's a guava sour and highly recommend. I hope they will have a national distribution of this specific flavor. We want this on the East Coast! Venue is dog friendly and chill vibes.

Yelp
We stopped here really quick for a drink. It was the middle of the day on a Sunday so it wasn't super busy. We were helped right away and everything came out quick. My friend and I got their house seltzer and my husband got a four flight.

Thomas W.

Yelp
I stopped by on my way to Craig, it was packed so I assumed that the beer was good, for it being as busy as it was I was able to go straight to the bar and sit down, which was great. The blonde bartender was so friendly and nice and made me feel like I was at home. I ordered the talk is sheep and it was very very good. I'd highly recommend visiting this brewery

Yelp
On vacation, we love going to the local breweries and this one did not disappoint. As huge Seinfeld fans we got a kick out of the names of the beers and their references to the show. However, most importantly, the beer was amazing. The bartender was great and was patient with our group. Do yourself a favor and make sure to stop and have a cold beer!.
google avatar

Yelp
We had a blast here! We stopped in for some drinks while road tripping through Colorado and this was one of our favorite stops. Their beer was really good and we tried a few flights to try a variety of sours and IPAs, all of which were good. The beer names are also fantastic and we loved all of the Seinfeld references. The atmosphere here is also great and it's just a chill place to relax. This is definitely a must-do while in Steamboat!

Yelp
We stopped in after a hike for a nice cold beer. They have a nice variety to choose from, with something for every taste. I went with a Mexican lager which was pretty good and an easier sipper. I've also had their guava sour which is super delightful, I'll have to try their other spurs next time I'm in! There's ample seating both inside and outside (and a rooftop), and they are dog friendly! The staff was also super kind and kept the place super clean. I would highly recommend stopping in for a cold one if you're in the area!

Yelp
We came here after a morning of playing in the snow for brews and pizza (next door) the beer tender needs a major attitude adjustment or to find another job. He was extremely unpleasant and acted as if his was being inconvenienced to serve a beer. It's a shame he made us feel uncomfortable because we would have stayed longer (which means spent more money). The beers were good and the pizza next door was also very good. We will not be back in the coming days though, rather spend our money in a more welcoming environment
google avatar

Yelp
This place is a gem. Easily the best brewery in steamboat. Great vibes, tons of seating along with a rooftop deck. Awesome beers. We did the flight with 2 IPA's, a Kolsch and a Pilsner. All the beers were great. Def will come back!

Charlie B.

Yelp
Good beer staff was very irritated to be there. Wouldn't go back just cuz of that. Asking for a beer was a total inconvenience to him. Would have hung around a bit longer but I won't be treated like a_- for asking for a beer. No thanks I'll go to Yampa brewing.

Yelp
Went here on 6/19/21. First time here. The atmosphere was great. Decent size patio. A lot of tables inside. Very friendly bartenders. They Can all the beers they brew. Or that's what it looked like when we were there. They are dog friendly. There is a pizza place next door that will bring over food. They have beers from light to dark. While we were there we tried 2 flights. We tried the Colorado style kolsch, guava sour, citrus ginger wheat, dry hopped session ale, pale ale, session ipa, India pale kolsch, Cali common and brown. All these beers were very good! All had good flavor. We ended up getting a 6 pack of the sour and the dry hopped session ale. Will def be back. Cheers!
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
This was a really cool place! We stopped in for some of the locally brewed beer and they were really good! The bartenders were friendly, fast, and knew their beer. And although they did not serve food, you could take a stroll around the corner to the pizza place, "How Ya Doin Pizza and Eats", where you order there, give you an order number tag and they deliver it to your table at the brewery. All in all, great experience.

Yelp
Storm Peak Brewing in Steamboat was my favorite brewery we encountered on our endeavor for great local brewskis. We got here right before the snow hit, so we got two 6-packs and a crowler for the road. First of all, the cutest puppy in the world was sitting outside and I desperately wanted to be friends with him! All that to say this place is dog-friendly if sitting on the patio. The space is tall, open and industrial. Bartenders were nice, efficient, managing a decent sized crowd for a late Monday afternoon. I've been on the Colorado Strong kick as of late. Basically, many breweries among Colorado are brewing a Colorado Strong Pale Ale (adding their own twist to it) while 20% of proceeds benefit workers of all types impacted by COVID-19. This was one of my favorites thus far. My buddy loves lagers, so we got the Mexican Style Lager. The hint of lime was nice with our takeout tacos that night. We noticed they had some GABF bling on hand for their Hoochie Mama Guava Kettle Sour. We cracked open the crowler that night, and wow this was a guava overload. Sour af, extremely delicious. Wish us Denverites could find more of your beer locally! Maybe I've just been overlooking it? Would love to try more from these guys and dolls.

Yelp
Loved the selection and loved the atmosphere! Also enjoyed that you have food options nearby you can bring to enjoy with your brew. Service was awesome too.

Tess W.

Yelp
Beer was good. Atmosphere and music was good, staff not so much. I went back to buy a T-shirt while my family went to the car, the bartender came up and said it was her first day and she didn't know how we to ring up a T-shirt in the register. She seemed so sweet and I didn't want to make her first day harder so I said I'd come back another day. Well come to find out someone else in our group had bought a shirt from her earlier so that was a LIE. It was an hour before closing and she was already putting up chairs. If the truth was told, I would have been fine with that but lying hits differently.

Cate Z.

Yelp
Love exploring local brews! Excellent pizza next door and cold delicious beer! Unfortunately, the staff is unwelcoming, nobody had a smile to share.
google avatar

Robert R.

Yelp
Great selection beers. We accidentally ended up next door at the pizza place at an 8 year olds birthday party we had the Maestro and hazy. Then went outside and realized we were at the wrong place. I had a wonderful IPA flight and my wife had your seltzer. Great brewery. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Thank you
google avatar

Gary H.

Yelp
Awesome experience. There is not much to say when it comes to a brewery, as you get what you expect. In this case, we got more. Friendly staff, fairly priced brews, and a large selection. There was also plenty of seating and an indoor or outdoor experience, whichever you wanted. Having food next door was a plus too.

Yelp
My last stop before heading out of town after my Steamboat Springs Friends Staycation was to Storm Peak Brewing Company. ++ This dog-friendly taproom is located a mere half mile from Butcherknife Brewing Company on Elk River Road. Storm Peak Brewing Company is a moderately sized taproom that really aims to build community. ++ The beertenders definitely know the regulars, it's dog-friendly, features a variety of board games, and has ample community style seating to accommodate any type and size for group. While the taproom is moderately sized they do a great job keeping it cozy feeling. ++ With classics such as IPA's, pale ales, ambers, funky sours, and experimental brews - their tap list caters to any type of beer lover! I opted for the Hoochie Mama, a sour blonde with guava, which received chuckles from a couple of regulars around me as I ordered at the bar. It was wonderfully tropical with the perfect amount of sour notes. ++ A big perk for this brewery is that it is on the route for the town shuttle service. So, if you're in town visiting and prefer not to drive - you're covered! Storm Peak Brewing Company is def a brewery to check out when you're up in The 'Boat!

Peter Y.

Yelp
Tap room with a beer for everyone! The place is friendly, has music and plenty of seating. It's conveniently located near the all the mountain houses!
google avatar

Anton P.

Yelp
A big availability of light and IPA beers, however lacking in dark beer department. In general really cool spot to hand after skiing in the area. You can bring your dogs here too and there's plenty of people with theirs making it for a cool atmosphere.

Yelp
We had been tasting great Storm Peak brews all over town during our recent stay in Steamboat Springs, so obviously we needed to visit the brewery. Our party of 4 started with flights and ended with a pint. Good beers....several good beers. Typical brewery vibe (this is a compliment), with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating - we did both as the sun was strong, so we moved in for our pint. The ladies room needed immediate attention. I brought this to the attention of the staff. Alas, on my next visit to the ladies room, 45 minutes later, nothing had been done. This is important guys!!!

Yelp
Lack of enforcement of dogs on leash policy. Some dogs were free roaming and when I inquired about those dogs to the bartender, her response was,"Some locals have well behaved dogs and they are ok off leash." Also, I alerted a few dog owners who I observed their dogs being aggressive that I had my dog under the table and that she does not like dogs who get in her face and one of the owners got defensive and told me,"it is a dog friendly place and it is the other dog's problem." Basically a typical Gen Z or Millenial entitled jerk response. And this dog owner kept letting his dog come close to my dog and this dog already got into a fight with another dog. All in all, I used to love coming to this brewery with my dog when it first opened. But now it is frequented by "bad elements" and I probably won't return.

Yelp
This was such a great place to visit while staying in Steamboat! Recommended by some local friends, we ended up here for a couple hours and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's nice that there is a pizza place next door that has yummy food as well that you can bring over. They have a nice selection of beer, and their merch is super cute too. I got a t-shirt and a tank and spent more money at a brewery than I've probably ever spent because of that haha. I also like how the indoor and outdoor seating kinda blend together. If I'm ever back up there I would definitely like to come here again!

Yelp
BEER: Great variety which includes sours and some fun stuff in addition to your usual IPAs and pale ales and such. I tried a Candygram for Mongo (milkshake IPA), an Afternoon Delight (strawberry beer), and a Hoochie Mama (guava sour) and all were tasty. They offer flights as well as growlers and six-packs to go. VIBE: Casual and fun. PERKS: Water jug as well as free popcorn. SERVICE: Fast and friendly. PUPS: Very much allowed.

Yelp
It's certainly possible, with changes to the housing prospects in Steamboat Springs taking shape in 2021 that the West End of town will be the future of dining and entertainment. If that is to be the case, then Storm Peak Brewing is positioned to be at the center of the action. Great outdoor (summer) seating, excellent local craft beer (I'm enjoying Kolsch at the moment). Grab an excellent pizza next door from How Ya Doin? pizza, or walk next door to Moe's BBQ. In the summer of 2021 these are all (mostly) locals hangouts. Nothing fancy; just good food and great beer at reasonable prices. When downtown is overflowing, head West!
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
This place is a great open space with some good beer. We came early Sunday (as they were opening) and had fantastic service. Got a few samplers and our favorites were the Candygram for Mongo (milkshake IPA) and Afternoon Delight (Strawberry Cream wheat). Surprisingly the Hop-U 7.0 IPA was really good too (uses Pilsner hops). Free popcorn that the kids loved for a snack. Lots of open tables and beautiful open garage door feel. Loved the place and service; beer was okay.

Hayden R.

Yelp
Very pleasing to look at great design and great service along with cool stairs and lights
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
I checked out Storm Peak Brewing with some girlfriends while on vacation in Steamboat. We all thought the beers were tasty, the bartenders nice, and the space great for groups! With 8 of us it was really great to find a local brewery that easily accommodated us.
google avatar

Becca R.

Yelp
Storm Peak has a nice space with an open air indoor space as well as an outdoor patio. The beer is refreshing, especially after biking 20 minutes to get there! I haven't tried their food but I am interested in their homemade spiked seltzer for next time!
google avatar

Yelp
It's been a while since I have visited Steamboat Springs but this past Fall while I was visiting my parents I made my way over to catch up with some friends. It's been several years at least since I was here and several breweries have sprung up since my last time here. I am kind of impressed because I think that brings up the number of breweries in town up to four. Since Steamboat is pretty much a tourist town all year long anymore and it gets lots of visitors in definitely keeps the places going. And of course plenty of locals like craft beer. It is Colorado after all. At Storm Peak Brewing I got one of their beers, a Kolsch which was very, very good. When I was here they had a lot of IPA's and a Pale Ale which look very good but since I was touring the town's breweries I decided that one beer here was plenty. The taproom location is nice, they make a good use of space and aren't too far off the beaten path from the main road through town. Service was very good, warm and friendly. A good stop this was!
google avatar

Jessica A.

Yelp
Always a go-to spot when I'm in Steamboat. I like their different varieties of beer and j usually get a flight to test them out. There is no bad seat--in or out, they're both great. Plus everyone brings their dogs and what could be better than that?! The only reason I didn't give five stars is because they don't have food, although they let you bring pizza or BBQ from the neighboring restaurants. Great hang out spot! Also, once I saw someone walking a camel in the parking lot. No joke. So there's always hope they'll be back.

David B.

Yelp
Cool vibe and friendly people. Beer is quite good - especially the Kolsch. Looks like they're finishing an outside upper deck which should really be sweet weather permitting. Good stuff here.
google avatar

Eric K.

Yelp
Solid Covid process including ordering a cleanup. Plenty of dogs which are better than people but don't tip as well I hear. The beers were good enough to not recall which we had....we had 3-4 of each so that's on us. The pizza next door @ How you doin' pizza made it a 5-star experience. Well done
google avatar

Parson B.

Yelp
The best beer in northwest Colorado! I have dreams about cold Chowders, their hazy IPA. The taproom on the west end of Steamboat is the perfect spot for a meet-up!

Erica J.

Yelp
Cool vibe. Nice flights options. Dog friendly patio. Good music. Very nice that you can bring your own food. We liked it!
google avatar

Jennifer P.

Yelp
Our first brewery stop in the boat and it was A-ok. They have a large list of various brews. Something for everyone, if you will. Service was great, super friendly. They have a large space with lots of room, so here comes my problem. With all this wonderful space, why not have a low table with regular chairs?! Instead, the place is filled with horrible and uncomfortable picnic tables and high tables. I might have stayed longer or returned in my week long stay in Steamboat, but I was not comfortable. At. All. The copper ridge was my fav beer here. Lots of IPAs on the menu. They even have cans to go. Free popcorn, nice. You can order from the pizza joint next door and they will bring it over. Great! However, unless there is a change in seating, I probably won't return.
google avatar

Alicia R.

Yelp
Tried a flight of beer. 0/4 were any one I'd ever order again. Companion thought his was nothing special. One flight, one beer, $29. Overpriced, for sure. Bus your own table. Obnoxious EDM. Atmosphere w/o charm. We'll try another brewery, tomorrow.
google avatar

Juliette R.

Yelp
Maestro IPA. so good. The milkshake IPA. SO GOOD. We will be back Stormpeak! Loved how the beertender told us we could order pizza next door and the pizza folk would happily bring the pie to us. It's cool to see people gettin along. Beer and pizza - bringing people together
google avatar

Liz J.

Yelp
Great beers and nice people. Good place to hang out, also they have crawlers and to go cans, pets allowed of well behaved and leashed.

Allie B.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and product! This is the best brewery in town! On par with the product back home in Portland!
google avatar

Damian B.

Yelp
Great beers and even better staff. We sat on the patio and douche bag after douche bag came in. Just the worst of the worst people during covid times, but the staff were awesome. Handled all the stupidity super well, and really impressively. Thanks staff!!; You guys were great.

Ellen L.

Yelp
Delicious beer at Storm Peak. After a nice hike we came here. We had American Pilsner, Gaper, and I&I IPA. We are from Reno, NV. and we look forward to visiting here on our next trip. P.S. we found "How Ya Doin Pizza" right next store and enjoyed a Mooks pizza. Both the toppings and crust perfect!!! Happy Stomach, Happy times

Robert G.

Yelp
Love the beer and always enjoying stopping here when I get the chance (live about 2 hours away). Sadly today I stopped in to get two growlers filled and after getting home, opened them to find they were only filled about halfway each. Both growlers are quite large so that was a hefty sum to pay for only half of them getting filled. Needless to say that was extremely disappointing. I will go back but I will be checking my growlers to see if they were actually filled next time at the bar even if it makes me look like a jerk.

Yelp
We loved Storm Peak, open to the outside on a brilliant sunny day with folks kicking back after a day spent adventuring. It was crowded but without a sense of tension that can arise from crowds- the service was straightforward and focussed. Very solid beer, nice to see more than one offering that is session-y rather than hop-forward, like the refreshing Kolsch. Folks grazed heavily on the free popcorn. My partner in crime wished to purchase a baseball shirt, and they were exceedingly helpful in assisting her with that pursuit, even suggesting that she try it on in the ladies room. Storm was our favorite of three breweries visited in Steamboat.

Yelp
Great ambiance and vibe. Large selection of crafted beers. We came in early fall and the patio doors were still open. The staff was very informative and helpful. Very pet friendly.
