The Secret Patios Of Seattle

"It doesn’t matter what season it is—Stoup always feels like a mall on Black Friday, only without the random power walkers taking laps around the perimeter. But what a lot of people don’t know is that there’s a relaxing pocket away from the chaos, and it’s outside near the daily-rotating food truck. Have beers out here instead of within the swirling vortex of people waiting for a schooner. And if you’re one of those people, get the Bavarian hefeweizen." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

Google
Good beer hall! They had a few ciders and cocktails as well and I’m pretty sure you can bring your own food in. Great place to catch up with friends and have large groups. You can also try before you get any of the beers. The bartender was friendly and let us sample before we chose. I got the Yonder something and loved it (fruity and not too tart).

Google
Best brewery in Seattle. Excellent especially if you like IPAs. Big space. Very queer friendly without feeling exclusionary to non-queer folks. Wonderful space!

Google
A very enjoyable place. Lot of groups get together for events. They have large tables perfect for groups they also have several board games to play. They offer wider variety of beers, and they also have espresso/coffee option.

Google
I had the pleasure of visiting Stoup Brewery in Seattle, WA, and indulging in their unique IPA, boasting an impressive 7.80% alcohol limit. The experience was delightful, with the IPA delivering on taste and quality. Stoup Brewery provides the perfect ambiance for hanging out with friends and savoring good times together. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking a memorable and enjoyable outing

Google
This Stoup brewing location was a great stop on our Thursday excursion. It was nice to see this space, previously occupied by a different brewery, continuing to be used. The food truck on site was well above average, and service was fast overall. Beers were quite varied too. Would come back for sure.

Google
The BEST... Simply the BEST! Definitely my favorite brewery in Seattle, and so far in the world. Their beers are amazing, and the vibe is friendly and casual. They always have a big menu of different beers, with their standard signature styles - and always some interesting special brews which are CONSTANTLY being updated. Whether it's a dark, a light, an extra hoppy, or fruity beer - they all have the cohesive Stoup style of beautiful smoothness and being perfectly balanced. The Capitol Hill location is large and has lots of great sunlight and room to spread out and is fully dog (and kid) friendly - even inside. They usually have a food truck on the schedule, but even if not - you can bring your own food from one of the nearby walkable takeout restaurants.

Google
The place is huge. It's clean, they have friendly staff and their beers were cold. I wish they had better food options, though. You're able to order food from a food truck outside, but I didn't really like it. You're able to bring outside food/order food to have delivered here, though.

Yelp
They were open today, 24 December. That is two stars right there. Between friends catching up before they head out for a few weeks, and those who either don't celebrate Christmas or have little family, it was nice to sit, mingle and enjoy a beer and the po'boy truck outside. Thank you, Stoup for being open! This spacious brewery has plenty of beer hall style seating. I enjoyed a delicious porter. It was full bodied and tasty. My husband's non alcoholic raspberry Italian soda was the real winner! It was the best I've ever tasted. Outside food is welcomed, no kitchen here. There are games, for those who are interested. Music also plays overhead. Lots of space and grace to hang out here. This is just what Cap Hill kisses First Hill needed. It should be on your Saturday hang out must do list! See website for more details. Parking on street.

Yelp
Went here for a after work meet up. A pizza party if you will but it was fun, unlike at work "Pizza parties" This Stoup as a nice open concept compared to the Ballard location. I kind of like that about here at the Capitol Hill spot as it's easier to move around, get water go for more drinks etc. The tables are large and it was no problem as about 20 people from my company showed up and it looked like various other groups were doing something similar. Beyond this it's Stoup. With an array of IPas. Only thing dropping a star were the pourer's at this location just seemed low energy. The ones in Ballard seem more friendly and eager to pour some pints.

Yelp
I went to Stoup Brewing on a warm summer evening to celebrate a friend's birthday, and it was the perfect venue for a casual, lively get-together. The brewery's seating area is massive, with plenty of room for groups of all sizes, and the open setup made it easy to mingle with friends and enjoy the evening. I thought it was cool that you could bring outside food into the brewery. There's even a food truck outside so you don't have to go far for food. Our group of friends had an entire long table reserved for us, which was great for accommodating everyone comfortably. We were informed that we had to order at the counter. Stoup's selection of beers is extensive, catering to a variety of tastes, from IPAs to lagers and more. I opted for a cider as I was in the mood for something sweeter, and I appreciated that they had this option for those who prefer alternatives to beer. After ordering, I picked up my drink and returned to the table. Stoup operates on a self-serve and self-bus system, which adds to the laid-back vibe. They have convenient water stations for guests to fill up as needed, making it easy to stay hydrated while socializing.

Yelp
Came here to meet up with a few friends and grab some drinks. The one thing we heard about this place before coming was that you can bring your own food so we stop by to grab some burgers and fries next-door before coming in. We were planning to grab food from the chicken truck out front but when we got there, they were sold out so I was a bit unfortunate because we were really looking forward to it. But AnyWho, we got in line and all ordered our drinks and were luckily able to find a table for our big group. It was a good time and the ambience is really nice. There's a lot of big groups so also something to know as well.

Yelp
Came here for a "welcome event" for a wedding, and boy did Stoup Brewing blow it out of the water!! A few different points to make: - The staff and servers were excellent. They moved quickly with a large party, yet still could find that balance of being professional, kind, warm, and helpful! - They allowed us to bring in our own food, woo-hoo! - The options for drinks for this event was absolutely wonderful; of course I'm not sure how the hosts chose it/how much they paid, but we had an open bar and could get anything on tap - an awesome option for those who may want to host something here - The space they reserved for us was gorgeous! Although I don't live in Seattle, I'd be happy to return to this venue whenever I'm in town. Definitely stop by and check this place out!!!

Yelp
What a cool place to hang out. Massive brewery with lots of options. They are nice to let you take food from outside. And they are kid friendly - they actually have an area designated for the kids which is awesome! Bathrooms and clean and staff is friendly. We ended up ordering food from the yummy tummy Thai food truck outside and it was delish! Great place for group hangouts. Yes it does get loud though.

Yelp
Love coming here every Monday for 7:30 PM trivia! The tropical beer slushie is always fun and delicious, but always love the ciders as well.
google avatar

Yelp
We were here for a private event. Service was friendly and efficient for our party. The party space was comfortable with couches, chairs and small standing tables too for the guests. What blew all of our minds there was the bathroom. A hallway of stalls for both men and women. Each stall private, even if using a urinal. It was just different and interesting! Not mad about it in the slightest. I wasn't super excited about the beer options but they had other options like wine and cider available which was appreciated!

Yelp
Attended a happy hour event here as part of a conference I attended. Ordered the stout after sampling the porter and stout, and LOVED it! The space has plenty of space to spread out! There are A LOT of IPAs on the menu, so if that isn't your thing there won't be a ton of other options.

Yelp
This brewery is now on my list of FAVS Breweries. With an area for kids to play and board games, the setting is perfect IDEAL place to chill, have a beer, bring your own food and play games. LOVED the beer - it was light, crisp, and strong. Even after two beers you will not feel bloated.

Yelp
We came here to meet friends (we're from out of town) and brought our four-year-old. What an awesome brewery!! Spacious, kid-friendly, SUCH good beers, great bartenders, clean. Cute puppers as patrons. Nice people all around. I also liked that the families gravitated towards one area - where they have a kids set up (yay) which, I believe, makes everyone happy. A kids section and a non-kids section. Those of us with kiddos aren't bothered by other wild children nearby and we're all in one part, condensed and contained-ish. The food truck which provided chicken sammichs was delicious. I wish we had a Stoup in Columbus! Thanks for the wonderful evening!

Yelp
So glad to see Stoup Brewing get a location in Capitol Hill! I usually could only go to their taproom in Ballard. This location is where Optimism Brewing used to be. I have paid two different visits here before sitting down and writing a review. I knew the beer would be good so no question there prior to the visits. Out of the two outings I have had three different beers of theirs here. Going off of those two outings here I tended to like the dark beers better. The three beers I had was the Cervecita Mexican Lager. Probably not my most favorite of this type of lager but J am very picky with Mexican Lagers. Flavor highlights with this beer were a breadiness, and crispness. The Export Stout was another beer I had and this one I really liked. Nice and dark the flavor features with this stout is coffee, a roasty flavor and a well balanced sweetness. On the other visit I had the Robust Porter. Again similar flavor features as the stout with coffee and roastiness but also rich and a perfect beer to have had on the rainy day that we were out and about! On one of those visits I had to buy a Misfits inspired hop t shirt which I was thrilled to get from the brewery! It's all about the swag!

Yelp
Really cool vibe inside. It's huge and fits whatever you're looking for. There are lots of tables that were hosting trivia on one end, a work party on the other end, and plenty of other seats for this that's don't want to do any of those events. Beer is great and there's always a good food truck outside.

Melissa D.

Yelp
No fabulous beers but all solid beers and a farmhouse ale and cider that I really liked. The place is huge and has great indoor and outdoor seating. Staff are nice and lots of options on tap.

Yelp
Appreciated the many tables and dog friendly atmosphere as a casual way to meet up with friends overs some beers! M

Yelp
I was happy to hear when Stoup was taking over the old optimism location in Capitol Hill. The location is wonderful - so many seats and so centrally located. The beers here are excellent with so many options. There are beers ranging from lagers to sours to IPAs. I feel like there's like 20 options on tap, so there is something for everyone. It is a standard brewery where you order at the counter and pick your own seat. There are often food trucks outside to get a bite to eat as well.

Yelp
This is a great space. Huge. Open. Games. I came on a Wednesday night and was fairly quite. I bet it goes off on the weekend.
google avatar

Marcella M.

Yelp
Great ambience. Friendly service. Small kids play area. The beer slushy was delicious and a nice pine colada flavor.
google avatar

Steph W.

Yelp
Optimism is now Stoup Capitol Hill. Really cool large open area. There was a seemingly endless option of seating on the ground floor and mezzanine too. There were board games, long tables for drinking games, and cool view of the brewery equipment. There was a huge selection of IPAs on tap (which are my favorite!) My favorite being the OverHOPensation IPA.
google avatar

Rachel V.

Yelp
Huge place! Across from Chipotle and you can bring in any food you want. It's a great place to get out of the rain and have fun conversations with friends. Plenty of places to sit and many many many different beers to try. There must have been over 20 different beers on tap. Probably more. And the wonderful beertender stayed patient and friendly even after my 5th sample. I tried the Please and Thank You beer. I also tried a really tasty citra. Neither disappointed. Even though I wanted to try them all, I left the poor beertenders alone after my 2 beers and dozens of samples. We decided to go to a Mexican restaurant around the corner and not try the food truck. But I can't wait to come back and try some others.

Yelp
New in town. Great tasting beer. Huge selection. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and the place is absolutely enormous. Very cool vibe and great outdoor seating.
google avatar

Grace F.

Yelp
We had a company event at this venue. You can bring your own food, I believe they catered it through another company. The beer selection was plentiful, unfortunately I'm not a huge beer drinker. I had wine, not a large selection to choose from.
google avatar

Miranda W.

Yelp
It was exciting that they carried a "sour" - not most places do and it's my preferred drink. Low stars was for super rude service from not just one worker but both workers serving- sorry we came in to spend money...jeez..

Yelp
Stopped in while on vacation and had a lovely evening here. What warmed my heart the most was seeing all the Magic the Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and other card game players having camped out on spots and enjoying the lovely ambiance. Beers were as good as you can get. Bartenders were prompt and knowledgeable.

Yelp
I visit breweries for the beer and the beer here and at all Stoup locations is first rate. Cap Hill is a vibrant neighborhood and Stoup taking over after Optimism Brewing closed is pretty cool. I've read some blasting about the tipping change - different owners and different beer and different business practices. If tipping is your beef - don't tip, it's not state law. The beer prices reflect what is current in Seattle. Folks that bitch about beer prices haven't visited NYC lately! I enjoyed the German Pilsner. There are lots of good food offerings in Cap Hill - it's such a vibrant neighborhood.
google avatar

Bryan L.

Yelp
Came in on a rainy day for some beer and really enjoyed the cozy atmosphere even though it was outside seating. There seems to be quite a bit of people even on a rainy day when I went. The flight can be a great option for getting a good taste of the different offerings they have on tap. I think the offerings are usually switched out every so often. Like most of Seattle, dogs are certainly welcomed. Service is really standard for a brewery in a good way. Overall I would recommend coming here to check out the brewing scene in Ballard and grab some IPAs

Nathan H.

Yelp
We arrived with a large party of paying customers, all of whom out of town. As difficult as it is managing the travel of a group, we arrived 9 minutes early. And while standing in the rain we asked the staff if we could wait inside out of the rain until they opened. And while our party gripped the wall outside seeking swe were refused. As a successful bar and brewery owner myself I felt that this is a small accommodation. However they felt differently. It's their business and their culture that they have the right to control. So I understand that and offer my experience for the public.
google avatar

Jordan c.

Yelp
Came on a Sunday evening, crowded but still nice! Found myself a spot to sit near a window and watched the passersby's. Service was fast and efficient. Would come back.

Yelp
I can't in good conscious leave anything more than a one-star review. Optimism used to be the place that I would get together with friends at a minimum of once a week or more for playing games, meeting up, whatever. I would also always recommend Optimism to friends and family coming in from out of town as a must stop location. A large part of this was the business model and the company's policy on tipping. Since the ownership change, my group of friends has gone here once and not again. That isn't to say the beer for Stoup is bad, it's good. But a huge part about what made us want to go to Optimism was their policies. I was not originally planning on leaving a review at all. But recently some close friend from out of town were coming to visit and were asking for a recommendation for a brewery and Stoup never made it onto the list. It made me realize that I really honestly can't recommend or enjoy this location anymore. The switch from Optimism to Stoup was a loss for Cap Hill.

Ethan U.

Yelp
Beerhall is spacious, drinks are tasty, and staff are friendly! This is a great venue to host events and bring friends and families together. I want to give a big shout out to the Event Sales manager, Megan, for her accommodations to one of my bigger events. Long story short, there was a mishap and miscommunication on my end that could have ended disastrously until Megan stepped in and assisted. It is this kind of service that I will definitely do business with this brewery again. Thank you!
google avatar

Amy B.

Yelp
Beer is delicious and it's SO easy to host a large group here. Staff are super kind and know their beer! 12/10 would recommended. Honestly I didn't care much for Optimism beer so I didn't go often before but the space so great that I was bummed about that. Now that it's Stoup the beer problem is solved!
google avatar

Grace H.

Yelp
I've been really enjoying visiting Stoup since they took over the Optimism space, the beer is great, good NA options, and a casual atmosphere. I had my bday here last year and it is one of the few spaces on the hill where I could book a large group for free which allowed dogs and kids.
google avatar

Holden C.

Yelp
Great location, so glad Stoup was able to move into this spot. For those complaining that Stoup accepts tipping instead of Optimism's $25 "livable wage", just stay home and pour yourself a beer. Unless you're a service worker, no one really cares about your opinions on tipping policies. Leaving a one star review for a great business that makes great beer just because you miss Optimism is pretty despicable behavior. I'm talking to you Josh I. Long live Stoup.
google avatar

Chase M.

Yelp
Pretty much the same as when it was optimism except Stoup now. Big space, slightly smaller beer selection maybe.
google avatar

Kale A.

Yelp
It's a large space that invites you to bring in food, games, and to host cool events. But the beer is mediocre and at a high price, they don't accept cash, rodents run around your feet, and it's common for parents to allow their children to run around without supervision.
google avatar

Jonathan M.

Yelp
This location is newly taken over from Optimism brewery, and the transition has been seamless. Great bartenders, frequent draft drops, and a dog friendly, communal atmosphere makes this a fun spot for great beers and conversations. There's a reason so many local game clubs set up shop here. Stoup's second Seattle location ups their offering multiple times over. Congrats on the new tap house!
google avatar

Andy G.

Yelp
Great spot. Fantastic beer. Must try for breweries on the hill.

Jeff A.

Yelp
Great beer, great service and great selection of beers especially along the lines of west coast IPAs!

Ilene B.

Yelp
Friendly. Good beer. Wish there was food but you can bring in from nearby Chipotle and Dominos pizza. Great music!

Michael H.

Yelp
It was a favorite of mine in Ballard and it makes me happy to see one on the hill. Optimism will be missed but I'm glad another local brewer took over. Can be loud at times but still some of the best beer you could ask for here.
