I went after a work event with my fiancé and the waitress was super nice. She asked me why I looked so smiley and that's when I told her I just got engaged. We were congratulated several times throughout the night and right before we left. The Guinness beer served amazingly, the potatoes with curry sauce and the good vibe of the place was pure perfection. We can't wait to show this gem to our friends. They definitely made a core memory.

Google
Walked five minutes from our Marriott Vacation Club San Diego. Good old Irish Pub. Food is what I enjoyed. The fish and chips were great. Breading was light with great portions of Cod.

I’ve been going to Stout for a couple of years now - lunch, dinner, meeting a friend for drinks, or sometimes just to watch the hockey game. The services is always good, the food is great, and it has reasonable prices even considering the enormous inflation San Diego has experienced over the last few years. I’d highly recommend it. I believe they also have a board game night or something of the sort. Also, there’s outdoor seating and abundant parking options around.

Google
Came here for a drink enroute to dinner. Being new in town, this place was convenient. Friendly bartender, great service and great selection of local brews. Makes a visitor feel at like home. We enjoyed it so much we came back the next day. The bartender actually remembered me. Laid back place to relax and make this an extension of your living room. Highly recommended.

Google
Unpretentious public house with good selection of beers and a cider on tap and simple quality food. We ordered and would recommend the chicken pot pie, chicken tenders and sweet potato fries.

Google
Great neighborhood irish pub. They play sports and the food is very good. The service is fast too, which is nice if you have a show to go to at The Jacobs Music Center.

Google
A down and dirty, no frills Irish bar, that's easy to miss in a busy downtown area. Service very friendly. Guinness is excellent.

Yelp
Great place to gather with friends. We had a large group and our servers were attentive. Food was good. Lots of choices.

Yelp
I came here by myself on a Friday night. When I walked in the place was kind of packed but mainly more at the bar top. Luckily though there was one spot in between two people that I was able to sit at. I might have gotten lucky and sat next to people who were friendly and wanted to talk. I learned a bit about the place and what it used to be. It used to be a French restaurant and now it's an Irish pub that mainly focuses on hockey at the sport of watching. So if you're a hockey fan, definitely come out here as they will always show the games. The bathrooms are located in the very back and are kind of on the short end as a height wise. So bear that in mind if you're a bit on the taller end because you might have to crouch a little.

Yelp
The way I rate a pub is - how likely would I be to come here alone? And the answer is absolutely! My husband thinks that my rating style is an affront to him, haha! But it really means that it's a place that, as a woman I know I would have a great time with friends or a date, but I could also head there for a pint and a shepherds pie on my own and feel completely comfortable sitting at the bar for a solo evening. As a person who travels for work, it always feels so nice to find this kind of place - where you feel at home, the moment you walk in. Stout has immediate friendly vibes, a big comfortable bar and tables on two levels. Bar service is top notch. We talked to the bartender as well as one of the cooks who came out of the kitchen. The pub fare is good - there were fresh tomatoes on our sliders and the fries were salted perfectly. The bartender is one of those guys who'll make you feel like a regular on your first visit. I'm stoked to go back for poutine and another pint.

Yelp
Good neighborhood bar. Irish vibe with some loyalty to NHL. Good beer selection. Selection of bar food is also decent but servings are on a small side. Service is lacking as bartender does it all....

Yelp
Neighbor bar located in the outskirts of Downtown San Diego. Great selection of beers and whiskey! The food is exceptional for bar food, also served large portions. Was there for lunch so it wasn't crowded. Only one guy working the bar, but the service was quick and our food came rather quick. If you are in to friendly neighborhood bars, a must!

Yelp
Such a fun spot and they have great food. The owner and staff are super friendly and learn your name and drink right away, making you feel so welcome every time. Amazing place for drinks with friends and apps or even a full meal. Been coming here for too long, can't believe it took this long to write a review.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars or even negative stars I would. I am a disabled veteran with a small service dog. My wife myself and my service dog came here for lunch. We were denied access. I repeatedly explained he is a very real service animal, but the guy pictured in the green shirt was rude and denied us service. Who in this world does not understand how illegal this is, not to mention very disrespectful and prejudicial to not only those of us who need additional services for our handicap, but incurred such disabilities serving our country. I speak out about it more for the next fellow disabled person and disabled vet. The guy pictured in the green shirt was super disrespectful so I told him off. I might add as we walked away he was laughing at us. Very upsetting, I needed time to go aside and calm. Still considering going to the DOJ and reporting this ADA violation.

Yelp
Popular Irish Pub in downtown San Diego, serving ok food and decent selection of draft beers. We stopped by during happy hour on a Thursday, and was able to find a booth near the front. The pub has an upstairs sitting area, a large bar downstairs, and an outdoor sitting area. We weren't sure if we were supposed to order at the bar only, but did see someone: it was all being served by one waitress (since most people were just drinking and ordering from the bar). It took a bit of time to have her come over, and was good that we had already looked at the menu on-line, since she really wasn't expecting folks to order food (she had no menus for us). The menu was the standard Irish/English one, with items like Sheppard's Pie, fish n chips, corned beef and cabbage, and Guinness stew. We ordered bangers and mash ($15), and fish n chips ($16), along with a pint of white rascal. The food came out at the same time, and it was fine with ok portions. The fish n chips had 3 fish fingers (filets of cod, lightly battered), with pub chips (deep fried potatos). The bangers and mash, had two imported pork sausages (looks like deep fried), on top of mashed potatoes, which was on top of baked beans. The baked beans were not mentioned in the menu, but luckily I love british baked beans for breakfast. Everything was OK: very finely ground pork in the sausage (not for you if you like your sausage more coarsely ground), and lumpy mashed potatoes (which means freshly made), on top of baked beans from a can. All of it went well together. The biggest thing I will remember about this place: It is very loud inside. When we were there, it was about half full, evenly distributed between the large bar and booths and it was consistently above 80db, so speaking across a table required effort. Almost all the folks there were celebrating the closeness of the end of their work week. Glad that Stout was so busy.

Yelp
O.M.G! Truly the best Rueben I have ever eaten outside of NYC. Lean and delicious...every bite was yum-o! The staff was kind and welcoming. In fact, the bartender gifted me a pair of her readers after we talked about how we "all of a sudden" needed the extra help! Very sweet! I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Great staff & owners. Went out of their way to help us find a game we wanted to watch. Good food & drinks to

Yelp
They are an Irish Pub, try the tomato soup, reason it gets 5 stars from me. Local San Diego pub, indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
Downtown pub that has been there a long time. Irish pub food. Fish & chips, salmon green goddess salad. Calamari strips. Great drinks Eileen our server was fantastic. Old fashioned Irish pub, dark & moody. Great place to catch a hockey game.

Yelp
My Number One, who knows I like hockey, brought me here as a surprise. When we arrived, I immediately knew this place would be an Irish-themed pub, but to my delight, it's also heavily into hockey! There's so many games on Thursdays that every TV had a different game on! Of course I ordered the corned beef; and I enjoyed how big the pieces were. I tried his Caesar salad, and I thought it was way too fishy (if you look at my other photos, I've posted an amazing Caesar with fresh anchovy filets- freshness matters!). They have really extensive whiskey and vodka options here! I got to try a vodka/tonic and they don't pour heavy. Translation: I can order my own drink next time. The crowd is a totally different vibe than I'm used to- usually people come up and just start chatting and the energy is fun (I'll admit it's mostly in PB though), but here, everyone was quietly mingling with the people they came with. Service was okay; friendly but not attentive. Overall, I look forward to returning before the season is over. Pros: - Irish menu - extensive liquor menu - hockey! - floor design/layout (cute balconies) - open late Cons: - energy is too mellow - service was "just okay"

Yelp
Best Damn Pub Kitchen in San Diego. My "go-to" pub for myself and friends. Make this awesome venue your Everyday Pub, Weekend Steaming Spot - not just for Saint Paddy's Day joint.

Yelp
Such a friendly staff ! Fish & chips were amazing - poutine could have used a little more gravy & cheese and less onion - but still delicious Definitely recommend
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Good beer selection, divey bar with ok food. The potato skins were too cheesy. Calamari was nice and crispy. They have a good selection of Irish food. Was chill for a Saturday night. A good spot if you want to escape the Gas Lamp hustle and bustle. Only two bathroom stalls.
google avatar

Lani R.

Yelp
This is the favorite neighborhood pub. It's great place to meet people in the food industry. I have only been there for drinks, so can't assess the food. But the bartenders are always on top on it!
google avatar

Yelp
Why can't I quit you, STOUT? My only complaint is there is never enough baked potatoes, or "the skipper" on your menu! Other than that... these are the cleanest taps in the universe. I feel as if the Guinness is always a perfect pour and come straight from Saint James gate. If you like hockey or Gaelic football, this is the place for you It seems to be a vortices of intellectuals as I am constantly hearing conversations involving James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, and Brendan Behan out on the patio by that handsome group of regulars. If you're military, you are at home in a place like STOUT! PS... Order the baked potato!
google avatar

Franny Z.

Yelp
My husband placed an order to go and he took a little longer than I expected. He said he had never seen a Guinness on draft so he had to sit at the bar and enjoy a cold one. He ordered the Bangers and Mash and the Mussels. The mussels were so delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Visiting from Tennessee and were told to give this Irish pub a try. Good food at a fair price. Tried bangers and mash for the first time so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I enjoyed it. Wife had chicken penne pasta ,just average. I have been told that most food from the England, Ireland area could be a little bland though. The service was above average. I don't drink but they appeared to have several beers on tap.

Yelp
BRIAN IS A STUD MUFFIN!! He definitely took care of us and was a rockstar! Upon arriving you have to wear masks and when you're at your table you can take it off. We ordered a smorgasbord of: - Fish + Chips - Wings - Rueben - Sweet Potatoes Fries - Sliders - Wine, Irish Whiskey, + Beer And absolutely loved it all!! Not only that, Brian was a sweetheart and kept us liquored up during happy hour! The food photos on yelp looks aight, however it's bombAF!! So make a pit stop here if you want a pub vibe and beers!

Yelp
Great place to grab a drink with friends , family , co workers , or your significant other . Customer service is great and location is very clean . They have multiple alcoholic beverages for everyone's taste . From whisky , to beer , to tequila to wine, & champagne. Definitely a location I will be visiting again when in the area :) . Keep up the great work owners .

Yelp
This is truly one of my favorite spots. It's a big hockey place with a Canadian, Irish feel. Nice beer selection, but I'd like to see a seltzer on tap. The food is so good, and that's what keep me coming back.
google avatar

Yelp
A hockey bar with cheap drinks? Schwing! When I lived in San Diego this was the pre-game spot before shows at the HOB. It was also the watering hole for the staff at Hustler store when I worked there while I was in college. Anywayzzz... This place has the look and the feel of a European dive, minus the smell. It has two levels with most of the seating on the main floor and a few cozy seats that look on to the main bar area. Like I said this is a hockey bar, so you'll see jerseys, photos, and other hockey paraphernalia on the walls. They also have the hockey game TV package so you literally see any game you want. The bartenders are super friendly and never let your glass go empty. I've only eaten here a few times, go for the fish and chips. Don't sleep on this place. I highly recommend staring here before you head into the craziness that is DT San Diego. Cheers!

Yelp
This place is a long time favorite of mine. The food is all delicious.! I work nearby and it's a favorite for many of us. They can accommodate fairly large groups and small. The vibe is not the usual downtown 'cool", it's just genuine. OK, my favorites are the chicken pot pie with the puft pastry pillow on top, the fish and chips (their fries are perfection!) and the tomato basil soup. It's all good. They know what they are doing and it's always consistent.

Yelp
Food is AMAZING! I been to this place about 8 times and I have always tried different menu items and everything has been delicious! Everyone there is so friendly!

Colm P.

Yelp
Best pint of Guinness in Southern Cal. Great food and service - all the crew. Looking forward to my next pint of Stout and Ruben!!

Cara N.

Yelp
Stout House has been downtown for many years. The food is amazing. Salmon salad with green goddess dressing, fish and chips, calamari strips. Eileen was our server she was just awesome! Made great drinks and food recommendations. This is an old Irish pub that makes unpretentious food that is a pleasure to eat. Dark & moody, a good place to watch a game
google avatar

Yelp
Super fun vibe! Fantastic Irish food. Great fun for Saint Patrick's Day. I had the shepherds pie and my husband had the Irish stew both were plentiful and tasty. Excellent service even if the place was pumping. Oh the live music was awesome too!

Yelp
Great spot for on point Irish cuisine. Awesome retro building with an upstairs area as well. Rt on downtown SD.

Yelp
We came here twice during our stay in San Diego and both times enjoyed the service and the food! I ordered the calamari and the chicken pot pie, a pint of hard cider as well. My family ordered the burger on both visits and thought it was tasty. It's nice to get a bite to eat somewhere that feels familiar even if you're from out of town. The bar tenders are both really nice and took time to ask about our stay. Thank you!

Yelp
Love Stout, can't ask more from a perfect Irish bar owned by fine Irishmen. Order all and feel confident.

Yelp
April 8, 2022 Smaller 2 story place with lots on the walls to see. Friendly and informative staff 15 beers on tap and all the food that came by looked great. I ate to much breakfast or I'd ordered too. At least 6 TVs
google avatar

Jonathan S.

Yelp
Come now. It's an amazing bar a block from my house. Not only that on the busiest day of the year the owner remember who I was even though I had only come once before. Absolutely love this place, thank you.

Yelp
Good inner city bar with great ambiance and booze selection. I always enjoy watching game there.

Yelp
Came here after a horrible experience at The Local. And man am I glad we ended up here! There was one man working the tables and the bar since it was a little bit later and not as busy. Which was fine since we weren't in a rush. At an Irish pub, you have to get a beer and Irish food! My fiancé ordered a beer that he ended up not liking and the bartender (manager? Owner?) swapped it out no problem. I ordered the chicken pot pie and fiancé ordered the shepherds pie. Both were fantastic! I'm lactose intolerant but had 4 lactaids with my meal, and let me say, it was completely worth testing my intolerance! The meal was reasonably priced and so good. We don't come downtown often, but when we do, we will be coming back here. It's going to be hard to try the other Irish dishes because mine was so good! I'm sure that all the food is equally fantastic and we can't wait to go again!

Steve T.

Yelp
As a near by local this is my favorite place in the city to grab a pint and a bite to eat. Personal favorite is the chicken pot pie and the flaky pastry it comes with. The ambience is nice too, no loud music just great conversations. I sometimes feel like I've been transported across the pond when visiting here.

Yelp
Casual and friendly pub that is wonderfully hockey-centric. Good selection of beers and spirits. If you're looking for trendy and stylish, this isn't it. If you want a relaxed, welcoming place with a true pub feel, then this place is for you. After having been all around the U.K. enjoying try pubs, this place is one of the few American establishments that captures the feel well.

Yelp
This is another one of those spots I have sauntered past a hundred times before. Most any time I have gone to a show at the House of Blues this place has caught my wandering eye. It was always so unassuming I didn't realize how cavernous the place was inside! After taking note of Stout Public House in the SD Reader Tin Fork article one day I was leaving jury duty service and looking for lunch. Of the 3 places on my list that were in downtown Stout was the only one open. I wandered across downtown and ended up here and thought Ooooo that place?" After a moment I thought to just do it. This place is my kind of place! Its huge inside with balcony seating, bar seating, and tables on the side. The bartender is a real Irishman and they have a fully loaded bar. They have several beers on tap but only two of which are stouts, ironic. They have a great food menu and I was sold by the Brie cheese quesadilla. I now have a favorite downtown spot I am sure I will be seeing again on my way to see shows at the House of Blues! Stop by if you like dim old bars with character! Slainte!

Yelp
Was visiting the area and looked for a guinness, food and somewhere to watch hockey. this place checked all the boxes! Location: on the edge of the gaslamp district easily walkable from most hotels. Drinks: a lot of choices and a nice guinness pour. Food: bar bites plus traditional Irish meals. We opted for the chicken wings and corned beef and cabbage. Both were very good. Service: the guy behind the bar who I believe is part owner or manager was such a nice guy and knowledgeable hockey guy. He put on the Bruins game for us without disturbing the other games in progress.. all in all a very nice experience as it felt comfortable, good food and drink plus everyone in the place was so nice. Definitely recommend! It was a mixed crowd with couples, groups of ladies and men all enjoying a homey place! Will come back for sure.
google avatar

Yelp
Great beer selection include some regular strength Stouts. (Not the high Alcohol Imperials which are dangerous) The wings are very good especially the Thai. TV's show hockey but will switch to Padres if asked. Very friendly crowd like an European pub. Not Fancy, a little old but clean and fun.

Yelp
So this review isn't based on a single visit, but on my coming here on and off for the past eight years. From the time I first came to San Diego this was a watering hole for my coworkers and I spent many nights drinking beer among the dark wood and hockey memorabilia. Now I live much closer and have dropped in a few times for a daytime beer (I work service industry so my job makes my "weekend" Tuesday and Wednesday) and wouldn't you know it? They are now a Pokémon Go gym. That seems like a dumb thing to care about, but I still play the game and enjoy the atmosphere while I play here. Good beer, unobtrusive service and very prompt. I freakin' love this place. I've only had chicken tenders here as far as food goes, but they were good. Don't usually go to bars for food, so the fact they have lots of options is a plus. The people who give this spot one star are the types who give one and five star reviews almost exclusively. One guy complained they wanted to hold his credit card, but that's pretty standard to bars downtown. I've seen all types here from the classy hipsters to seasoned ladies with walkers. It's a neat stop for sure.

Yelp
Definitely an enjoyable experience! The Reuben that I had was amazing! And while one within our party had a slight issue with his order (he felt the serving size wasn't quite enough) Sarah overheard our conversation and was quick to satisfy his appetite with a little extra on the house, as well as a few jokes to keep the environment cheerful. Service was Definitely worth a nice tip and a great review! With a nice selection of classic American meals as well as a large selection of beverages, both alcoholic and non alcoholic, makes this joint definitely a great place of choice for occasional lunches. They even service juices too, including pineapple!

Yelp
I have withdrawn my previous five-star good review and I now give this restaurant 10 thumbs down. Picture this ... I take a seat on their patio on the sidewalk to enjoy a late lunch.... in the heart of dysfunctional downtown in the midst of the worst part of homeless San DiBeggo.....Now I'm a younger-looking 71 year old male, a well-dressed new regular customer.... So when the bartender comes out to take my order (which would have come to a tidy sum of $15...), he coldly informs me if he wants to hold my credit card while I eat his lunch on his patio. WTF? EXCUSE ME? YOU HAVE ME CONFUSED WITH A BUM DOWN THE STREET DUDE... ..I CERTAINLY DON'T FIT THE PROFILE OF A DINE & DASH DEADBEAT! How Freaking rude and insulting... Then when I asked the waitress about it, with no compassion or apology she informs me "he is just doing his job". His job involves questioning my integrity and insulting me? WELL DO IT FOR SOMEBODY ELSE I'LL NEVER BE BACK... This is the age of credit card and debit card identity theft, phishing,etc...and if you want to require me give you my credit card in advance to order to eat an over-priced lunch on your patio... you obviously have had one too many of your own beers. Adios!

B H.

Yelp
After trying to find a place to get corn beef and cabbage on St Patty's, I finally hopped on the bus and checked out this place. I got a couple of beers and enjoyed a decent, if plain, corn beef and cabbage. Hurrah! Time to close out and go home! Check? $39 Wut? Turns out the small, plastic cup pours were 9.00 a pop and my food was $3 dollars over the menu price. The waitress said it was "st Patty's price" Of course it wasn't posted. So, if you don't wanna get scammed, find a more local spot for St Patty's. Maybe just not go here unless you have money to burn.

Yelp
The rueben sandwich is where it's at here!!! Also Guinness on tap, served by an authentically accent-weilding Irishman. (Can't beat that!) My college has occasional alumni gatherings here, which is how I found them. The service and drinks were fabulous. The menu was extensive and i'm dying to go back and try more soon. The drinks were all perfectly served, and they had a decent draft beer selection for all you picky drinkers. There were tvs around so the manly crowd could watch sports and lots of comfy tables and nooks for the ladies to come enjoy a beer after work and gossip as well. I would highly recommend this place and can't wait to go back. Didn't check the restrooms. Not sure about parking as I walked from home.
