Why Tourists Visit Panamint Springs Resort in Death Valley - Eater Vegas

"Panamint Springs Resort offers the only gas, lodging, and food within the 65-mile long Panamint Valley. This otherworldly area, defined by its glowing white playa, star-shaped sand dunes, and lava-colored hills, only officially became a part of Death Valley National Park in 1994 after the signing of the California Desert Protection Act. It is, in this same spirit, something of an afterthought to many Death Valley travelers, who often stick to the more touristy east side of the park." - Krista Diamond

Great spot. Clean rooms, friendly staff, and everything you really need. We especially appreciated that the facility was kept more natural with it's landscaping. This is in contrast to the other options around Furnace Creek with actual grass lawns and gardens with large trees. We feel these waste a lot of water in the desert, and we felt we were being more environmentally responsible staying in Stovepipe. We also really liked the gift shop, which had some genuinely nice stuff. Whoever does the graphic design did a great job. We all bought something even though we had already shopped at the visitors center. The dark sky here was great, and we got to see hints of the Milky Way and Starlink satellites passing overhead with the naked eye. We also had a fun visit from a coyote just outside the parking let. While options available in the restaurant or general store were understandably limited, they had enough diversity to meet our needs while visiting the park and seeing everything we wanted to in comfort. Our only real complaints are the lack of a coffee maker in the room (so we purchased canned iced coffees from the general store) and that the location is further away from the main attractions that are nearer to Furnace Creek (Badwater, Natural Bridge, etc.). That said, Stovepipe is that much closer to the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes and to Ubehebe Crater, so perhaps that's a wash. We'd strongly recommend anyone coming to Death Valley to stay at Stovepipe, especially if they want to hit the right combination of comfort and responsible consumption.

Room was dirty and ac set to 80 degrees. Definitely expected a cooler room. After being in the park would have been nice to have a cool room. Shower wasn’t cleaned before us. There was a pile of white hair on the floor of the bathroom.

Rude staff! Will put your life in danger to keep to their strict rules! Young man with a moustache and goatee is the rudest, most un-customer friendly individual we have ever met. 130 degrees outside when we arrived at 1330. Their systems were down due to an upgrade being undertaken, so we were asked to sit by the pool or go to the bar. As it got hotter I pointed out I was starting to fell unwell, and was told that he wouldn’t give us our room due to their STRICT 4 pm check in. By 1500 it was 130 degrees and now I had heatstroke. We went to the bar where I was taken very ill. My husband finally got the key from them at 1630. I proceeded to be ill all night and then had the pleasure of workman walking all over our roof and dragging equipment at 0530! The room was nice but we paid top dollar for an executive room so would expect it to be, but no tea/coffee facilities. We were supposed to stay two nights but checked out and have demanded a full refund. How they ruined what was supposed to be an experience for us. It has taken several days for me to get over the heat stroke.

While on vacation, our rental vehicle broke down leaving us to hitch a ride into stovepipe wells. The staff at the hotel made all the difference in turning a stressful situation into a relaxing 12 hours of our trip. They assured us they have dealt with this before and would help us get on our way. They got us set up with a room and helped us with communicating with our rental company. Beautiful and excellent location, convenience store and restaurant on site, clean pool area, outdoor fire pit. Can not recommend enough, one for the amenities but also the staff who were the absolute best!

The staff at the front desk particularly Kelly, were wonderful. Upbeat and helpful. ||This is not an inexpensive hotel . You definitely pay for the location. The hotel itself is nothing to write home about. Pretty basic. We did get a king size room and it was pretty spacious. Room was clean and the bed was pretty comfortable. ||We did have an issue with the AC not working in our room. They sent maintenance pretty quickly and he could not resolve. He had them move us and brought us the key. The new room had a working AC that did the job well.||The big issue we had was the Wi-Fi! It virtually does not exist unless you are in the lobby. VERY difficult for someone who works on the road and needs a good connection and high speed. If that is you, don't stay here. ||No in room coffee or microwave. It does have a sizable mini fridge with a small freezer compartment. ||The lack of Wi-Fi will keep us from staying here again.

The hotel is basic, food is basic, but it is beautifully located right near the Mesquite Sand Dunes for an amazing sunrise. If you request the Roadrunner rooms then at night you can walk out of your room go up a small hill and enjoy the dark sky. You can see all sorts of planets and stars. I would definitely stay here again!

Loved Stovepipe Wells! Highly recommend staying here. Centrally located to all the sites and dark at night for awesome star gazing. The staff could not have been nicer. From reception to the general store everyone one was helpful and pleasant. We are in the Saloon and we're so surprised at the vegan and vegetarian options for us. It never happens. The food was wonderful. The staff we met, Violet, Laura and Paul were incredible. They also were helpful in assisting us with choices of what sites to see and their favorites. They were spot on. Could not have asked for a better group of people. We will be back ❤️. Forgot to mention, our room was nice and big and had a fridge. Very clean.

Stayed here with the wife in the middle of April for a couple of nights. Better than I thought it was going to be! An older room that had been somewhat updated. Nothing spectacular, was on the small side but was clean. The best thing it had going besides a swimming pool, was it proximity to Marble Canyon and to the Sand Dunes.

Yelp
We are lucky to get the last room here in a last minute situation. The service is nice and it's very safe here. But the room is very outdated and it smells not good. Other than that, it's a good place to spend a night inside the park.

Yelp
Dillon really went above and beyond for my boyfriend and i's stay. Super cool and answered all the questions we had. Very nice and will definitely be coming back. Thanks for the hospitality Dillon!!!

Yelp
This is the only hotel to stay at in the Stovepipe area, but it's a nice little hotel. Definitely older, but it has a cozy feel. I was surprised by how affordable the rates were for it being the only hotel in the area. It's also just a few miles from the Mesquite Sand Dunes. We came during the winter, so it was cold and rainy here. But there's individual heaters in each room, which was super nice. The beds were comfortable, but the walls seemed super thin, and we could consistently hear the TV in the room next to us right at the head of our bed. They also have two restaurants on campus, a saloon and a basic restaurant that have decent food. It's also located across the street from a general store that has supplies as well as a gas station. It's a good place to stay if you don't want to camp while exploring Death Valley.

Yelp
Best place to stay in Death Valley! We loved the saloon and food, great service. Breakfast is better and cheaper than furnace creek. This place has a better feeling than furnace creek/Oasis (feels more touristy) I only have it 4 stars because room service was disappointing. I expected the toilet to be cleaned and bed made. Only seemed the trash was emptied. I mean, I'm on vacation paying $125 a night. I expect better room service. But still a great place to stay. BRING CASH INTO DEATH VALLEY NO ATMs in park and sometimes WiFi goes out. Don't expect to get WiFi throughout park. Very spotty. Even in rooms the WiFi doesn't work. Only works by saloon and restaurant area.

Yelp
we've stayed here twice now and there is so much to love about this place; i'd even go as far as to say everything that isn't so luxurious is just part of its overall charm -- and that the good outweighs the bad by miles and miles (and out here, they are miles) it's located right across the street from a general store, a gas station and a mile down the road from the mesquite sand dunes, which is arguably the best place to experience both sunrise, sunset and stargaze in death valley; their food and lodging is also the most reasonably priced within the national park, so for us, there's really no beating this hotel (or the campgrounds right across the way) wake up a little before dawn, bring some flashlights/headlamps, snacks + water and hike as far in to the dunes as you can. and with a little bit of luck, you might just catch one of the most beautiful sunrises in the entire world -- and you might just have it all to yourselves as well :) thank you for the memories, we will be back again and again and again

Yelp
You get what you pay for- no frills, totally adequate accommodations. Nice central spot in the Valley. Cool Saloon and restaurant. Really, a great place to stay to explore the valley. Minus 1 star for the for of chemical smell in our rooms.

Yelp
This was our first time visit to Death Valley. It was not easy trying to find available rooms for the last minute but luckily found two nights here for decent prices. We stayed in double bed room that had small refrigerator, desk, and TV for two nights but it was not too bad. The shower and the toilet worked great but the sink faucet barely had water stream. There was no housekeeping service but easily exchanged for clean towels and got additional pillows. There were two restaurants on site and one general store with a gas station cross the street. We had three meals at Tollroad restaurant, breakfast, lunch and dinner during our stay. The food and service was good.

Yelp
Solid 3.5! Impromptu stay. Cool staff that really explained the area as we will RV camp here in the future. We stayed in a patio suite. Clean, comfortable and unique nook in a really cool spot on planet earth. The saloon next door was really a decent burger, wine and tap beer. Prices are reasonable too! The room has luke warm water and the breakfast is a typical hotel breakfast because I assume the grill isn't opened yet. The only thing missing is make your own waffles.

Yelp
Everything was closed due to COVID while we visited Death Valley including Stovepipe Village, except the gas station. So, everything was closed, too bad, I wish I could have been able to shop, explore, have lunch at the near by restaurant. The place is cute, has personality and a beautiful desert background. Nothing fancy, rustic, woodsy, but well maintained. Hope they'll reopen soon and get their activity back. Close to Mesquite Dunes, a good option for lodging during normal times, right in the middle of the park. Cheaper gas, stores around and campground. I saw it closed, too bad they didn't keep at least the stores open with some regulations. Cute shopping and lodging options in the park during normal times. Since it's a pandemic, check before you go!

Yelp
Stayed one night Wed 16th August 2023. Never again. Absolutely awful black cockroach sized crickets in the rooms, toilet, beds along with other bugs and one large spider there was also insect poo on the pillows. Shame as this could be a nice place. Reminded us of the Bates motel. Spent another night in a similar room, separate hotel, crickets outside and none in the rooms. David Attenborough could have filmed a whole mini series on insects of Death Valley within the two rooms. The crickets literally were dropping into the rooms through the heating vents. Wife who has worked in travel has never experienced anything like it and has shared her experience with her former travel colleagues still in the trade. We slept in shifts by pulling two beds away from the wall to find the crickets and dispatch them first while one of the family stayed awake to dispatch any critters that got on the bed. Totally ruined our Death Valley experience and next day travels. Overnight we counted 36 crickets dispatched and about 6 others that got away and they were the ones we could see, as several were behind the bed headboard and could not be removed as the headboard was attached to the wall. Should have asked for a refund. Oh by the way there was no phone we could find to call the front desk and complain.

Yelp
I was going to make reservations at the Inn at Death Valley but after reading reviews on their restaurants, I changed my mind and made reservations at Stovepipe Wells Village hotel, and I am glad I did. This hotel is in the group of the restaurant , the saloon and the general store. The premises are not fancy but it served it purpose; clean room, air conditioning and hot water worked great. Restaurant with fair prices and the food was good. The price for the room is fair compared to other 2 hotels. General store in front of hotel has great prices, all the drinks and souvenirs are at fair prices And another plus, a gas station is right in front of the hotel and the price is only 40cents/ gallons more expensive than Orange county compared to the Furnace Creed at $8.50/gallon. If you don't need a fancy "resort" style, just stay at Stovepipe Wells for the convenience and don't have to feel like being ripped off.

Yelp
Loved this place. Why? Glad you asked! Clean and spacious rooms with nice views of the dunes and mountains. Restaurant was excellent and the prices were solid (unlike MOST of DV). Gas was reasonable priced with a nice little souvenir shop. Finally, a nice location on the other side of the park and Highly recommend.

Yelp
I have stayed here twice. Considering the logistical and labor challenges of operating a hotel in the middle of Death Valley, this place does pretty well. It is basic and simple, but clean and the staff very helpful. The tap water is surprisingly good, must be treated. The restaurant has typical American fare at reasonable prices. This is a good place to stay for people who want to explore the park, as it is situated in the best location for access to various hikes, historic sites, etc. For those looking for more luxurious accommodations, look at the hotels at Furnace Creek.

Alex F.

Yelp
My dog and I enjoyed our stay. Perfect location. Very basic rooms and the general store could offer more. Memorable evening by the fire. Friendly restaurant staff. I'd go back.

Yelp
You can't beat terrific staff and Stovepipe Wells has just that. I worked with Dillon from transferring reservations to retrieving my left behind AirPod Pros. He set the tone for a terrific experience and leaves me with gratitude and an overall feeling of well being. There are good people out there and I'm so happy I met one at Stovepipe. Thanks so much Dillon.

Yelp
It's a convenient location. There is only one hotel here, one general store and one gas station. Review is for the hotel and the nicest accommodations to bring your k9 kids. They allow pets at no additional charge. Glad because we got the Deluxe King room, best room on the property for $226 plus tax so a little over $250 for a night in the heart of Death Valley. Their AC/heater is sooooo loud! I had the heater set to 71 because it's cold at night in February and it would blast nice cool air (burrrrr) before hot and wow, I had to decide between turning it off to sleep in the silent cold or warm with the loudest ACunit ever and I decided to go with warm and wake up thru the night. The coffee machine was dirty...I mean..c'mon. I washed the inside of it before I used it, of course, but It would be nice to just wipe down the small coffee machines daily so that we aren't terrified of brewing coffee in our rooms. My biggest issue, yeah right, those were ok, lol, was the fact that there are 2 entrances (doors front and back) and adjoining door to next room. The next room decided to open their door so I mean, all we had to do was open ours so we can party with strangers if we wanted to. How do I know they opened their door? Um Because we could practically hear every movement next to us. I guess, having a loud heater helped us out afterall. 3 stars because it's convenient, pet friendly and decent accommodations being in the middle of nowhere. I probably wouldn't stay here again without my furbabies though. Hotel check in gal was welcoming and helpful. Better than glamping that's for sure.

Yelp
We picked to stay at Stovepipe Wells because the prices were much more reasonable than Furnace Creek. The room amenities were pretty minimal but we had a good stay overall. Pros: - Good prices (high, but much lower than the Ranch or the Inn at Furnace Creek). - Gas station (with much cheaper gas), a general store and a restaurant only steps away. - The restaurant was pretty good given the limited COVID menu. - The staff was friendly and helpful. - Shower was hot and had good water pressure. - Extremely close to Mosaic Canyon and Mesquite Sand Dunes. Cons: - The room was really small (the Double room was mostly just a bed, not much room to stand or even sit at the desk). - Limited amenities (does have a fridge but no microwave, and really old/noisy heater). - Slow wifi. We were able to connect but half the time it is at "Connected, no internet". We didn't expect much though at Death Valley so it's not too big of a deal. - Takes 30 mins or so to drive to spots around Furnace Creek if you want to go to Zabriske Point for sunrise / Golden Canyon for sunset.

Yelp
The location is good, but the room was cold and the bed was uncomfortable. No blanket on the bed, but one was on a shelf. The room is large enough for a queen bed which may have helped. The 2 pillows were sk8mpRestaurant buffet was $25 for a hamburger patty and fried chicken plus sides. We did enjoy the firepit.

Yelp
We were really excited to visit Death Valley. We picked Stovepipe Wells because we were traveling with our dog. We arrived at 2:20, went to check in & were told to come back after 3, which we did. We were told check-in was now after 4, & was only 3pm when they are "feeling nice".Um, ok?.....! We took a ride & checked into our tiny room after 4. Wanted to watch a bit of tv before dinner-- remote doesn't work. Brought to front desk; they changed the batteries. Go back to room; still not working. Back to front desk; maintenance guy wants to know if I changed the HDMI...???... he comes in the room, fiddles around, leaves. Now remote only changes the channel but not the volume. Whatever. We go to dinner. One of us is vegetarian & I had called ahead to make sure we would have something to eat. I check out the buffet & notice 2 sandwiches with fries sitting on a side counter outside the kitchen. We sit down & server brings us those plates that were sitting out on the counter--a burned cold veggie burger & dried out, cold hard sticks masquerading as fries. We did not eat that. We had some salad from the buffet & a cold cheese sandwich. We were not offered anything to drink or given a beer/wine menu. We finally got water when we were finishing our food. Cost for this: $25 each! Back in the room, startled out of deep sleep by the loud sound of a gushing fire hydrant--it was the water rushing through the walls to the bathroom next door. This continued any time the neighbors turned on the water. The fan in their bathroom sounded like a truck idling in our room! We had little sleep. Next morning I use the toilet & the handle snaps off in my hand---can't flush the toilet! Gross! We went to the front desk to document the things wrong in the room & ask for another room. Next we head to breakfast, where we encountered the nastiest restaurant worker EVER--hollering at people trying to sit down, dirty tables everywhere, yelling at people for sitting in the wrong room. We sat down with our food once a table was cleared; she came over & scolded us, saying it was "against the law" to sit down because the table had not been "sanitized". What kind of crazy is this??To make the whole experience even worse, every single item of food was cold--cold bacon, cold eggs, cold pancakes, cold, wet potatoes. It was thoroughly disgusting. We had another night at the 'hotel' but after this awful experience we left our vacation early & went home. Thanks for a completely AWFUL time Stovepipe Wells!

Yelp
The worst and it is expensive. No phone or Wi-Fi in the room. No desk, table or chair. Rest of furniture for little people. No blanket on bed. Blanket in the closet was stained with something human. Room very small and dreary. Insufficient towels. Clueless staff. Noisy adjoining rooms. Uncomfortable pillows. Only good thing is it is dog friendly. Electricity went down while we were there. Not motels fault however but the staff was not reassuring dealing with the issue particularly about the gasoline situation with the pumps not working. General store pricey. And all for a lot of bucks.

Rick M.

Yelp
Traveler beware! We stayed one night while on a road trip in January, 2023. We had stayed there previously so we knew what we were getting: a simple room away from everything. We awoke in the morning to not having water in our room. No brushing of teeth, showers or flushing the toilet. The front desk said "We are aware. Be patient". We waited for three more hours, heard nothing, decided to check out and continue our trip. I contacted the hotel and they were "sorry" but management would have to rule on an adjustment of our room rate. I am still waiting for their reply. Everyone loves hassle free travel. The true test of a business is how they handle the problems.

Yelp
This hotel is situated inside the park. Room is clean, water pressure is good and heater works soundly. The village has a general store, a gas station and a restaurant super close by.

Catherine G.

Yelp
We upgraded to what they say are "renovated" rooms with a view for $225/ night. Three stars because it is overpriced, the room was mediocre, the "General Store" is essentially a gas station and t-shirt shop and the available food was poor. Five stars for the view. We thought the hotel building looked like an army barracks and while ours was clean enough, the furnishings and finishes were cheap and vintage 1980's. The tile work in the shower did not look professionally installed. With night temps in the 40's, there were NO BLANKETS on the beds- only a sheet. We found two old ones in the closet area which worked for us only because we set the thermostat to 73 degrees and because there were only 2 of us. Our room had an adjoining door and while our neighbors were talking in a normal tone late at night, the sound seemed to travel thru the door which kept me up at night. I found NO fresh food at this location's "General Store"- the packaged food stuff (that you'd find in a gas station) was weird artificial flavored stuff. Not a single bag of Non-flavored, normal Potato chips in sight! The restaurant/saloon food was barely edible, but it was served quickly and efficiently once we were seated. I ordered the Caesar salad twice (this was OK and due to the lack of fresh greens elsewhere I was happy it was available), pasta with sun-dried tomatoes (barely edible) and the tortilla soup (ordered by my husband) was extremely spicy but OK. We waited 30 minutes each morning to receive our coffee to go but it did taste good!

Sue B.

Yelp
This is a nice little hotel and suits the Death Valley landscape. It is older but clean and cozy. I booked the only category available for 2 nights and we had a nice bathroom, coffee service and mini fridge. There is a saloon and restaurant on site, both are hidden gems. Again nothing fancy but fresh home cooked food. They have a huge smoker out front and the rotisserie chicken was delicious. One star taken away for a couple minor things (for us), the sink faucet water lines are reversed, you get cold when you turn to hot. The AC/Heat unit keep tripping itself off in the middle of the night, we were fine with the temps, but maybe an issue in the very hot or cold times.

Yelp
CHARMING BUT WITH DISAPPOINTMENTS Dates of stay: 3 nights - March 14 2021 through March 17 2021. AWESOME: The layout of the bathroom area was wonderful. The sink and mirror area is separate from the throne room and shower. Beautiful stone work, easy walk-in-shower (no tub). We were in the Roadrunner building, with a few out out the front window of the Mesquite Sand Dunes (2 miles away). The refrigerator was pretty quiet. There was a very nice reading chair and padded footstool. ALSO: To walk outside at night into the black parking lot, then carefully onto the dirt just a little ways away and be sitting in Outer Space with the Milky Way swooshing overhead. DISAPPOINTING: The pool was too cold to swim in. When I complained, I was given a certain temperature range that it was "heated" to and I let them know "that's too cold for us". The employee admitted "that's too cold for me, too". POSSIBLE REASON: the "hotel" (really a motel since many rooms you drive right up to) is prone to dust storms which fill the pool with mud, requiring it to be regularly drained, mucked out, and refilled. That would take a lot of energy to reheat all that water, and this not Furnace Creek, with natural already-heated water emerging from the ground. EVEN WORSE OF A DISAPPOINTMENT: At check-in, when I asked about the wifi, they warned me that "it can be a bit slow when so many people are on it". Now that in of itself is an interesting statement. They have wifi. But if it's slow, it's the fault of the guests, because too many of us are using it. In reality, they have a woefully deficient wifi system. Worst of all, there is NO WIFI in the Roadrunner Building where we were staying. They certainly did not volunteer that upon check-in, but admitted it when I asked. WHY DOES THIS MATTER? Because in this modern day, a "connection" has become a basic need. Are you thinking "hey I have my cell phone" well if so, think again, even cell-phone data is very sketchy in Death Valley. (If you really need wifi, and fantastic wifi at that, stay 30 miles southeast at Furnace Creek. More expensive... but not that much more expensive.) SUMMARY: Stovepipe Wells is a very charming throwback to the days of yesteryear. I was here in 1972 as a kid with my family, and of the two viable options, Stovepipe Wells has always been the less expensive option. Charming mediocrity, then and now. So enjoy it for what it is! It's located a full 30 minutes (25 miles) northeast of the more desirable alternative (The Ranch at Death Valley formerly known as Furnace Creek Ranch) so as far as location, if you're doing this end of the park, stay here. Just be ready to remain dry (cold pool) and disconnected (slow wifi).

Yelp
I have to cancel my reservation two days prior my arrival due to the terrible winter storm during Christmas. They sent the cancellation confirmation email immediately saying that the refund will be back 7-10 business days. Ok, then I waited and I didn't see the money back to my credit card. I emailed, of course no response. I then called yesterday and a guy said he was looking into it and promised to call me back which he never did. I called again today, the reception guy Joshua confirmed that the money should be refunded to me and he didn't know what is going. I asked him to ask his manager to call me back. Again, they never called! It looks like their time is more valuable than mine! I am done. I will dispute my credit card tonight and leave it alone. Why you want to keep the money that doesn't belong to you!? In addition, I did book a different room when I knew my flight was not canceled. I stayed one night with them. The room is really very old. The worst thing was the guests lived in the room next to mine talking very loud into midnight. Worst!

Yelp
Death Valley is our favorite place on Earth. We've been coming here more or less annually for decades, usually staying at Stovepipe but also camping and at Furnace Creek. In our opinion, Stovepipe Wells is the place to be if you want a room instead of a tent or RV. - The general store is great. - There are gas pumps at a price a bit lower than at FC (no premium though). - The tavern is a good place for drinks if not for food and they have a passable restaurant. - As far as things can be in Death Valley, which is huge, Stovepipe is convenient to most of the park: north to Ubehebe and Racetrack, west to Wildrose and Telescope Peak, south to Furnace Creek, Badwater and the Black Mountains. - The town of Beatty is not too far away. - The sunrises over the Funeral Mountains illuminating the Cottonwoods are a great way to start the day. But it's going downhill, albeit not as fast as Furnace Creek what with their ridiculously overblown renovation to the Oasis. What once was a four or five star business I now have to rate as just three. - It's too expensive, even for Death Valley. $200 for a small room with a loud AC, no microwave and minimal amenities is too much. They could probably lose the in-room TVs and save us a few bucks. We don't come to DV to watch TV. - Speaking of waking up to the awesome sunrises, I need coffee and not that crap you can make yourself with the in-room coffee gadget. But their morning coffee service is now a joke. They used to bring in a large coffee pot from the restaurant that was always ready in the morning. Now? Now they have a two-pot Bunn that the registration attendant has to deal with. Three mornings in a row: no coffee at the promised time. Once, no coffee at all during the day. We asked the attendant why there was no coffee ready at 7 AM (the service is promised at 6:30 AM). His response was "The pots weren't cleaned." - Wi-fi, incredibly, still sucks. Even sitting in the newly renovated (and I use that term very loosely) 'business center' it's slow. For these prices, they should install more bandwidth and better equipment. I don't expect wi-fi in the rooms, but I do expect it to work sitting ten feet from the router. We use the internet to plan the next day's adventure and also to plan and book post-DV travel. [ETA: I now understand the entire valley has limited capacity/bandwidth.] We have stayed at Stovepipe many times over the years and will continue to do so because we love Death Valley and Furnace Creek is just ridiculous. But Stovepipe Wells is changing for the worse. I really hope they don't plan a major renovation along the lines of the travesty at Furnace Creek. Were that to happen, I may have to find a new favorite national park, or buy an RV. ETA: Thanks to Mak. K for the business manager's response. Much appreciated.

Yelp
Good place to stay while in death Valley. This place is right within the park on the west side. They have a good restaurant and a saloon for lunch or you can just go to the general store across the street which is well-stocked with snacks and sandwiches. The room was very luxurious by Death Valley Park standards. In room coffee maker, refrigerator, hair dryer, TV. The front office staff are very helpful and there's a large gift shop on site. I like the decor much better than Furnace Creek which is surrounded by palm trees that clearly don't belong there. Haha. While visiting death Valley don't count on Wi-Fi, it's very limited, and absolutely no cell service. Would recommend this motel.

Yelp
This is a disappointing stop in Death Valley National Park. The gas station only offers 87 octane fuel, and is generic generic brand. The food options are also very limited, and none of the businesses offer Wi-Fi to the public.

Yelp
We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. For dinner I had a different item every night: burger, pulled pork and flat iron steak. All of the meals were very tasty. The steak was AMAZING!!! The portions were also very good. I had the same breakfast everyday, eggs over medium, pancakes, bacon, OJ and coffee. Most places only give 2 pieces of bacon, here they gave 4-5 pieces. The meal was filling and tasty. Even though the staff had to struggle through staff shortages and covid restrictions, they were always very nice. When I go back to Death Valley, I will be staying at Stove Pipe Wells Hotel. Most of the day we were out hiking and exploring. The rooms were spacious with plenty of hot water. The in room coffee maker was a little sad, but the coffee in the restaurant was good. The room price was decent compared to the other places which cost twice as much. Since I only need the room for a bed and shower it was totally worth it.

Yelp
I usually tent camp at DV but this time tried "luxury" desert accomodations. Hotel room showed its age but overall clean and comfy. Bedding was super clean, and you just gotta love Death Valley for peace and serenity. Hotel is close to gas, general store, Sand Dunes hike and Mosaic canyon. A huge plus. Feel campy? Get out and grab a seat by the firepit. NOICE!

Yelp
a gorgeous little getaway! the hotel was a little more like a small village--they have a general store, gift shop, a nice pool. staff were all super friendly. some things to know: this is a fantastic desert getaway, and u are truly unplugged. there is no cell reception or wi-fi unless ur in a common area like the restaurant. the food is really good. some favorites of ours were the mushroom pasta, the sun dried tomatoes were so tasty, and the cheesecake is their best dessert. really anything on the menu is delicious. pets stay free! infrastructure is about what you'd expect if you're staying in the middle of a desert, power went out for a little bit. probably a good idea to bring your own tp. there are not electric car chargers nearby but we rented a camping spot with power and charged our car that way

Yelp
Second time here - very disappointing. There's a distinct lack of investment coupled with an arrogant level of service. If a clued up competitor were to open I'd see this place go out of business in less than two years. The "cable TV" doesn't work correctly in the rooms - seems fine in the Saloon though, Hmm. The WiFi doesn't work in the rooms - only in reception, restaurants and bar; that said the company's Admin account appears visible throughout the estate. It's no wonder people sit in public areas staring at their phones. Breakfast is extra - $13.50 - really??? It's 2017, no one charges for breakfast. The food is basic, but Hey, we're in the middle of the desert, right? It must be difficult to get quality staff out here, which is quite apparent; those they have are under managed. I sat in the saloon for well over an hour and not a single table was cleared of dirty food plates or glasses. All in all not the best of experiences hence the two stars. I would have given one star but the complimentary coffee is better than average. If the management take the time to read these reviews, which I very much doubt, they need to wake up and begin to take a closer look at the slowly failing business.

Yelp
We visited Death Valley last week and booked an overnight stay at this hotel. It was my birthday that day and my husband had called them up to see if they can arrange for a cake. Since they are pretty isolated, they informed my husband that a cake might not be possible but they will try to do something special. When we checked into the room, I was pleasantly surprised to see a basket of goodies with a few souvenirs from their gift shop and a free dessert voucher at their restaurant. This was a very very sweet gesture by the hotel staff. Now moving on to the technical stuff, the hotel is very well maintained. Very close to the sand dunes. They have all the amenities that you may need during your stay such as restaurant, general store, gas station, etc. They also have a cute little fire-pit in the courtyard which makes it an ideal spot to have your early morning coffee watching the sunrise or a perfect spot to have a drink while watching the sunset. Overall, we had a very enjoyable experience, with the staff being super- friendly, and the birthday surprise made it extra special for me.

Yelp
Clean, comfortable room in the inn, excellent shower, basic amenities that are certainly adequate. Convenient location fairly central to Death Valley attractions. At the top of my list of pluses is the staff, who indeed make you feel welcome. Phil in the inn office was very accommodating and helpful when I had developed some car trouble. He also went out his way to help, which he did, successfully, when the TV in my room had a small issue. The workers in the saloon and in the store/gas station across the street were also friendly, which helped make my stay very pleasant, especially at a time when I was feeling some stress due to the car. Thank you, everyone at Stovepipe Wells Village. The next time I need my "desert fix," I will be back.

Yelp
All the comfort you'll need! About two months ago I, for the first time, crossed Death Valley on Hwy 190. It was 100+ degrees and When I reached Stovepipe Wells Village I was tired, extremely thirsty and craving a glass of ice cold beer. As I was sitting there at the bar and drinking my beer, I promised myself that I would come back and stay here for a couple of nights at the first given opportunity. Well, the opportunity came my way only a few weeks later and my mother and I got to stay here for two nights and three days. The rooms are very well maintained and clean. Keep in mind that you are in the middle of the desert where there is a lot of dust and little insects, so do not hold it against me if you find a little bug walking around your room, OK? But I promise you, I did not run into any rattle snakes! I mentioned dust, well, here is the good news, the showers in the rooms are awesome! So after you get back to your room after a long day of sweating up and down various trails, you will get to wash all the dust and sweat off of you before you walk over to the restaurant bar for a cold drink and good meal (psst! The Stuffed Dates are awesome). So what is the down side, well no downside except that the place is in the middle of a national park and far away from everything. That translates to somewhat of a higher price for what you are getting. How much higher? may be 10-20% over what you'd pay for the same room outside of the park. All together, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would do it again if we could go back.

Yelp
A more than solid choice (among almost none) for a place to stay in Death Valley. The room was large with two queen beds. The pillows were foam and rather uncomfortable. The bed was decent. There was a refrigerator, which was nice. Too bad there was no microwave. The bathroom area had slate tile, which was nice, and surprisingly comfortable on your feet. There is no wifi, and cellular was limited to simple data apps, such as texts. It was also nice that the room came with four waters. Didn't stay at Furnace Creek Ranch (although did laundry there), but this seemed more of a camp experience that is appropo to a setting like Death Valley. During the first week of March, the cost was about $250/night; high, but there are really no other options.

Yelp
This place was awesome! September 6th was my first time in Death Valley & my experience here made it even better! First and foremost Death Valley is DEFINITELY WORTH GOING TO!!!!! It wasn't as hot as I expected it to be, but it was still awesome. The place we stayed at was CLEAN & very friendly staff. Because of the clean welcoming vibes I received I WILL BE RETURNING TO THIS PLACE AND WILL RECOMMEND ALL FRIENDS!!!!!!! The only ONLY SMALL TINY BUGGER WAS they didn't have thick blankets/ only 2 towels and no complementary items . But that's WHATEVER MY STAY WAS 5 star status the service was very very very welcoming!!! We'll be back soon!!! Thanks David for helping make our stay amazing ! :)

Yelp
This place is excellent come here by chance since I had no reservation was my first time in the dead valley, and was a Little worried about knowing if I could find a charger to plug my EV in. Thankfully I got here and I found room for my family The person at the counter was excellent. He helped me with everything I needed and if they had an outlet to plug in my car. I went to enjoy with my family in the dead valley later, Come back check in All very well . The only thing that would give 3 stars would be to the restaurant l Food of this place and everything seems to be tin can think that they should work on that because the waiter was exellente. , drinks too .. One of the things we enjoy the most It was the pool my daughters enjoyed to the maximum although the temperature is 122. In short I plan to return to this place excellent place

Yelp
We stayed at Stovepipe during our trip to Death Valley. It really is a convenient spot. Very close to Mesquite Sand Dunes. When checking in, getting to the office was a bit confusing. The rooms were clean. Ours had two queen beds, a mini fridge. The bathroom shower looked like it was newly renovated (only shower; no tub). They allowed pets (with pet fee). During Covid, swimming pool was closed. They have wifi but the connection is so slow so I wouldn't even bother using it. You're in Death Valley so just disconnect completely! There is a restaurant located on premises and they are so nice! During our visit, they had limited dine in. They also offered take out. While we waited for our food, they allowed us to have drinks while we wait. The restaurant is also very cute and cozy. We felt very safe at this hotel as each room has its own entrance and goes right to your car. You can bring out your lawn chairs and watch the night sky. My husband noticed that the TV didn't have espn but you can watch it in the restaurant. If we ever come back.. we'd stay again!

Yelp
This is the place you want to stop if you're thinking of staying in the Death Valley longer than for a day (which you should do anyway btw). The staff is very friendly and helpful. Although the rooms are small they have everything you need to fresh up after a long hot day outside. The general store just opposite has great memorabilias, good selection of beers and other beverages and staff is very friendly. Spend the night outside and enjoy the incredible sunset or linger in the pool and watch the stars go bye. In any case this place is much more authentic than the place further down the road.

Yelp
The Stovepipe Wells Village Hotel met my needs. I was travelling solo and stayed in room #2 with one queen bed. I enjoyed the patio with the firepit just outside of the room. The bar and restaurant are a short walk away and the grocery store and gas staion are just across the street. Parking is also close by. The room walls are thin, however. I woke up to dueling bedsprings from the room next door. Initially I was worried this would go on for a while, but to my relief minuteman charlie finished about 45 seconds later. His companion was probably less enthusiastic.

Yelp
I stayed here one night on 12/22/15 while touring Death Valley. This is a basic motel .. more akin to Motel 6, but it's PRICY! It is "far" from civilization. It has a restaurant, bar, pool (as in shooting pool), etc. Food is pricy, but everything must be shipped in, so I'm not complaining. The staff were friendly and the waiters and waitresses were great as well. I came in without a reservation. Probably not a good idea in this remote part of the country. They had only two rooms left at 6 p.m. But I took one of them! Plenty of hot water in the shower. Again, it's basic needs. Free wifi, but I was warned by the front desk that it probably didn't work. It didn't, most of the time. Don't count on having Internet out here. Had DirectTV that did work though. You will feel you are "roughing it" but then, that's what Death Valley is all about. Down the road about a 1/4 of a mile is Furnace Creek Ranch. Very pricy. I could afford it, but chose this one. I loved it. I agree with another reviewer's assessment: "There is a restaurant close the hotel which surprisingly had very good food and fair prices - a bit on the high side. (Ex: Cheeseburger with Fries - $16). There is also a general store which carries all you need and a gas station. Make sure to fill up your tank as there are only two options in the Death Valley." Gas is $4.09 a gallon on this date and at this time. This is by NO means a 4 or 5 star hotel. Don't be fooled by those over ratings. It's really a 2-star hotel ... and yes you will experience better! Again, think Motel 6...! Total price for one night including tax: $169.22

Yelp
The telephone picture is our office for the week. No cell. Hard to use wifi. And No television at the RV park. This place is about as far from civilization as you will get out here for an RV park and it's great! Although it does have a few comforts. Pool, bar, restaurant. Ect. We have a great time every time we are here. It's the freaking Death Valley!

Yelp
This review is for the Toll Road restaurant at Stovepipe Wells Village in Death Valley National Park. The staff was very knowledgeable about gluten free options and the food was tasty, with several options available. We had a fairly large party and our service was excellent. Flourless chocolate cake and ice cream dessert was very good!

Yelp
Very disappointed in the motel. No maid service. Food service is extremely difficult. We paid for an upgraded room - not sure what the upgrade was... just a basic room. No wifi. Won't stay here again.

Yelp
I must say, I loved this quaint little inn in the middle of nowhere. Stovepipe Wells is extremely well located in Death Valley National Park, and extremely well priced considering its location. It is minutes away from the sand dunes, and other major attractions. The rooms are well sized, super clean, and the bathrooms well stocked with branded supplies. The heating worked impeccably, and the beds were comfortable, with ultra clean and crisp sheets. The inn has a "cowboy jim" kinda feel, with theme from the old wild west, which goes well with the location (desert, nothing around for miles). The restaurant serves great dinner, and we celebrated christmas eve eating Ribs, drinking microbrews, and diving into the key lime cheesecake (highly recommended). Our waiter was a bit cluedgy, but everyone else was super nice. We retired to the saloon to play some pool and listen to old LP's from Def Leppard (it felt like we'd gone back in time). I'd stay away from the egg nog, it looks a bit dodgy, but the rock slide (bailey's, kahlua, and god knows what else) drank itself well. I would definitely come back here on our 2nd trip to Death Valley. I'd recommend booking in advance; as the only affordable option for accommodation within the park, rooms tend to go quickly !!! Nice people,

Annie G.

Yelp
We recently stayed at Stovepipe Wells in December. Really what more can you ask for!? Our room was clean, fairly spacious, it had a mini fridge, the shower had freaking fantastic water pressure, and the beds were comfortable. When we called for a code 6 (help with heater), help came in seconds from a very friendly and helpful staff member. There are mountains all around so anywhere you look there it is beautiful. Gas is also much cheaper here than in furnace creek ($2 difference/gallon). Stovepipe wells is also in an excellent location. It is right next to mosaic canyon (a stellar hike) and the sand dunes, so you can easily go watch the stars or a sunrise/sunset at either. It is also only about 30-40 minutes from furnace creek, but is much much more affordable. We went to the saloon after a long day of hiking and the food (especially the salmon, black bean burger and quesadilla) were excellent. The bartender was also super cute. Everyone was so great about helping us decide how to spend our next day in Death Valley. The staff there felt like they were a family and that was a great environment to be around. Overall, you're in the freaking desert, and if you're looking for caviar, face-peels or grapes being fed into your mouth while a shirtless aquaman fans you, this is not the place for you. If you are otherwise a reasonable human with a primary goal of exploring the glorious natural beauty around you, and are looking for a clean, pleasant and simple respite in the middle of the "hottest place on earth," where you will be surrounded by good, down to earth people, this is the place for you. Would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
I'd give this place a 5, except that the bar was closed for renovation and the restaurant also had a really limited menu because of the renovation. So, our timing was unfortunate to come when it was under construction. But except for that, we were very happy with this place. We stayed 2 nights here and two nights at the Ranch at DV (aka Furnace Creek Ranch) and Stovepipe Wells was a MUCH better deal. Rooms and food cost 1/2 of what they charged at Furnace Creek. The room was fine. Basic and rustic, but clean and spacious. Staff was nice. Really good, especially compared to Furnace Creek.
