The 23 Best Restaurants In Salt Lake City - Salt Lake City - The Infatuation

"This Italian hotspot is an ode to ancestral recipes, and both the owner’s parents help out to create Matteo’s signature dishes. Don’t miss the bread service with focaccia baked by Matteo’s mother, the housemade pastas like lasagne al ragu and tagliatelle alla bolognese, or the parmigiano reggiano-topped risotto modena. Matteo’s recently moved downtown, expanding into a larger location with a beautiful bar, private dining room, and complimentary valet service. It’s also now across the street from the historic Capitol Theatre, making it a perfect stop for pre-ballet bites." - jenny willden

Google
Pretty bad, especially for the price. I got the Nonna Romana sandwich and it was disappointing on almost every level. It's advertised as mortadella, burrata and pistachio. Instead you get a pistachio cream sauce. At least I assume that's what the bland off green sauce was supposed to be. No pistachio flavor and certainly no pistachio texture. They are VERY skimpy with the mortadella. If I'm dropping $17 for a sandwich I expect more than 2 thin slices of mortadella. The burrata was fine I guess, but nothing special. The bread had potential but the bottom was sort of soggy and didn't have much flavor overall. Let's just say that I won't be back. For the money there are too many better options nearby. Hell, even Jimmy John's is better and at about 1/2 the price. I'm hard pressed to see what people are raving about with this place. The interior is cold and uninviting and looking around at other tables I'd say none of the food looked like anything special.

Unfinished restaurant that looks half built and open too early. Still decided to give it a try, ordered to go, and was unsurprisingly disappointed. Ordered a half chicken parm and an order of pacherri bolognese. Chicken cutlet was overcooked on the chicken parm and the rest of the sandwich was utterly flavorless. The bolognese tastes almost identical to a can of chef boyardee ravioli which is actually horrific for the prices that they are charging. Over 30$ dollars for a lunch that tastes like a child who was left at home without supervision made for themselves.

We ordered the Bistecca Bowl and were disappointed. The steak was pale and had a smell that suggested it wasn’t fully cooked. It lacked flavor and had an unsettling texture. The rice on the salad was dry, and the salad had almost no dressing. The pasta was better, though not very memorable. Service was polite when taking our order. No issues there. I don’t like leaving negative reviews, but this reflects our honest experience. Hopefully it was a one-off occurrence and the restaurant continues to improve.

Fun and convenient for an affordable, quick and authentic Italian lunch or dinner. Pair any pasta with the sauce of your choice. The panini selections are excellent too. Easy dining and well priced!

If you’re familiar with “Matteo’s Ristorante Italiano” and the quality of ingredients they use, the customer service they provide, and the over all experience, then you know that their new Sandwich shop just down the street is here to offer the same! STRADA by Matteo is here to offer high end quality Italian Sandwiches, a much needed offer for our downtown. What I ordered: Whipped Brie The whipped Brie is a must, one of the best appetizers you can get at Matteo’s and they brought it to this location. (Contains walnuts) Chicken Parm Panini - Full Size The chicken parm was massive, full of flavor and so much pesto… it was exactly what I was hoping for. Gelato - Hazelnut

Walking into Strada, I was immediately greeted by the simple, classic decor and extremely sweet and friendly counter worker. My hubby and I ordered the meatballs to share which were delicious. The meat was tender and I slurped the sauce up after because it was so flavorful. A hunk of bread would have been nice with the meatballs! We both got pasta. I got gluten free pasta with the pesto sauce and it was absolutely divine. Super flavorful and they made sure to confirm if I was celiac. I’m not it’s just a preference but very good attention to detail. My hubby got the fusilli pasta with the Crema de parmigiana. Wow. So rich and tasty. And not to mention, the food came out FAST and HOT. Will be back!!!

Google
My new favorite lunch spot! So good, yet so affordable. Just what downtown SLC needed! The Don Grasso is so good. They had pistachio gelato when I was there and it was delicious. Can’t wait to come back!

Google
I love this place. Visiting from Australia and one of my travel colleagues found this gem of a restaurant. Fresh pasta that is just delicious. A nice range of pasta to choose from and then a tasty range of sauces to select. You can mix and match as you please. We had a group of 10 and the staff were awesome in accommodating us with our seating. The food service is quick, portion size spot on and meals that melt in your mouth. This is not a fancy restaurant, don't expect silver service, just expect a nice meal and lovely staff. Enjoy and you can thank me later. Oh and sorry I ate my meal before taking photos which is so unlike me.

Yelp
One bite. It only took one bite for me to realize this was the best sandwich I have ever eaten. It's the #33 - a chicken parmesan sandwich on a flaky, crispy warm ciabatta. I just finished eating the half sandwich of the "Make it a Meal" which is a half sandwich and then salad or dessert and a drink. I opted for the pistachio gelato and already wishing I had just ordered a whole sandwich. I may order another half after I finish this gelato. It is that good. Yutana takes your order and delivers the food with a smile, and will gladly tell you about the menu items and how they are prepared.

Yelp
Food was delicious. I had a half chicken parm and it hit the spot. The chicken, vodka sauce and pesto were all delicious but I think a bit more salt would've made it a 5/5 to me. The restaurant is clean, fairly small, but the are expanding. Staff were friendly and quick! I have so many things in that menu I want to try and I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Limited seating is the only "downside" to this place. Menu seems basic at first glance, but it is anything but basic and everything we have tried so far is delicious to the taste. Especially the homemade noods, they are so so legit. One might say too legit. Don't sleep on this place.

Yelp
This casual eatery is new to 300 South and from what I hear very busy at lunchtime and expanding for more seating. It is a more affordable version of Matteo down the street, with fewer options, lower prices, but the same quality food. It was pretty quiet when we stopped in at 5pm on a weeknight. But started picking up quickly. Very helpful Yutana explained the menu options at the counter and guided our choices. We went with the bucatini pasta with a pomodoro sauce and then tartufo panini. Food came out quickly. The pasta portion was small but the sandwich was large. The sauce was thick and covered the thick noodles. The cheese in the sandwich was gooey and delicious. I'm sure most everything in the menu is good but our options were limited. I would like it if they identified with a "V" the vegetarian items as they do the gluten free pasta with "GF". Would I return? Perhaps, but for the price and setting, I would appreciate more pasta. The gelato sounded great but it's not hand-dipped, it's pre-packed in cups in the freezer. We didn't try it. Maybe next time.

Yelp
Food was excellent. They have done a great job at making a fast casual Italian place while still maintaining good quality food you'd expect from Matteo. Pasta was perfectly cooked. The bread on the chicken parm was perfectly crispy. My wife and I got red wine which was nicely chilled. Our food came out extremely fast. My only critique would be the 5000k lighting and techno music that was playing wasn't the ambiance I'd pick personally. It is possible the faster music got people in and out of their tables quicker, but I think a dimmer switch and more chill music would go a long ways. We're excited to go back and try other items!

Yelp
I haven't been to Matteo's yet but wanted to try their sister restaurant to see if it was worth! I think overall it wasn't a bad experience! You can tell this restaurant is new and that's okay! The lady at the front was very nice & she handled being the only worker/server during a dinner rush! I do think the inside is a little boring. I would like more decorations or made to feel more cozy. There were bright almost hospital like lights that I def would tone down a bit. For the food, I do think it was very tasty! the meatballs were yummy and pretty filling for an appetizer! Unfortunately my Vodka sauce was kind of bland. The description said there was pancetta but when I was looking I saw none! My fiancés sauce however was super tasty!

Yelp
Just so so. Great location. Service was quick. Staff was friendly enough. Gives off fizoli vibes with over cooked pasta and overly oily sauces. The steak salad was pretty good. Probably wouldn't go back.

Yelp
I loved the original Matteo on 900 South and was excited to try this new casual version. But the evening was a sad comedy of errors. I love gnocchi and I love pesto but not COLD. I was told "pesto is meant to be served cold." Not THIS cold, as if it had come out of the refrigerator. And gnocchi should absolutely NOT be cold. I think the unheated metal bowls were a big part of the problem. My friends said theirs was too hot to eat, but only the sauce was hot. Their bowls were cold as well, chilling the pasta. The bread was fantastic. When my husband arrived he ordered more bread but was inexplicably brought wine instead. We realized the counter lady must have misheard "bread" as "red". When this was straightened out he was brought a much smaller plate of bread than I'd been given. The pomodoro was unimpressive.

Yelp
Holy cow - this food was so good I had to write a review before leaving the restaurant. I got the #1 and could honestly eat this sandwich every day for the rest of my life. The bread was light and crispy and paired perfectly with the creamy burrata, mortadella & pistachio sauce. Truly perfection. My husband got the chicken parm sandwich which was so flavorful, light and crispy. The place was beautiful, clean and bright and the service was impeccable! Can't wait to come back and try more.

Yelp
If you love Matteo's you have to try Strada for lunch. Same great food and service, in a more casual atmosphere, and lower prices. I recommend the Lasagna, it's amazing. The manager Yutana is a cool guy, you can tell the staff is proud of the food they serve.

Maria K.

Yelp
This fast casual location has delicious sandwiches, I can't wait to try the pasta. My only feedback is that the sandwiches could be a little bit hotter, otherwise the flavor was absolutely delicious and perfectly executed. I can't wait to go back again.

Ric O.

Yelp
The food was slightly above average. The service was very good. The one man running the counter, performed all manner of services and was very helpful.

Yelp
Make no mistake about this - I was genuinely excited to see this restaurant come to be before it opened, and my first visit there was very pleasant; I was treated with friendly and appreciative respect and knew I would be returning one evening. And that was last evening. And for the way I was treated, I don't think I will return. I ordered their house salad, spaghetti with pomodoro and a side order of meatballs. When my salad was brought to the counter, I expected it to be brought to me as a salad should be before the main course. But it sat there for nearly seven minutes while the server did nothing until my spaghetti and meatballs came up, and he brought everything to me at once. I asked why I didn't get the salad first, and his reply was the restaurant brings everything to you at once, which I strenuously disapproved. Still, I chose to finish my salad first before eating my spaghetti, but by the time I was ready, the spaghetti was predictably cold and tasteless. I was disgusted by this sensation and asked for a to-go container to take my dinner home to reheat. There were NO apologies from my server even though I'm certain he knew how I felt. I know how hard it is for a restaurant to start up and remain in operation, and I wanted to like this place a lot as a repeat customer. but after what happened last night, I cannot see myself returning. "Arrivederci", Strada.

Yelp
My new favorite lunch spot in the area. I'm typically in SLC a week a month and on my last visit I had lunch here 4 of 5 days while at the office. Great food and service. I look forward to coming back and trying the rest of the sandwiches on their menu.

Matt B.

Yelp
Great food! Great service! This place offers quality Italian food but since it has a smaller menu they're able to get plates out the door quickly which is perfect for lunch.

Yelp
Hands down the best lunch option in DT SLC. Matteo brought all of the best from his high end restaurant to a more casual concept at a lower price point. Great decor, music, and vibe. I look forward to coming back and exploring more of the menu! Highly recommend!!

Jessica D.

Yelp
We had a lovely experience at Strada. Service was very fast and the staff was all very helpful and knowledgeable. We ordered a few items for our table to share. The chicken parm sandwich was our favorite. We also got the OG Italian, chicken pesto, and bucatini with bolognese. Everything was so yummy. And did I mention the food came out super fast?! We can't wait to go back.

Ed C.

Yelp
The new offering in town from Matteo. This place is the ideal quick, casual location with exceptional flavor and value. We ordered online and our order was fast, on time, hot (important!) and the flavors were exceptional! Highly recommend.

Kristin H.

Yelp
I have heard rave reviews of this restaurant but the two times I have had the food, it has been tasteless and overpriced. In particular, the chicken Cesar salad was all lettuce with very little cheese and a ton of croutons. The dressing was bland. The chicken was okay. I don't remember want pasta I had but it was bland as well.

Sam B.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing food and service. Downtown SLC has been in serious need of some really good Italian food during normal working hours, and Strada came in with some of the best I've ever had. The Bucatini Bolegnese is incredible, and the atmosphere is super inviting. I hope Strada is around for years to come!
