Where to Grab Pizza by the Slice in and Around Portland

"Drunkenly stumbling into Straight From New York for a slice of cheese has been a Portland tradition since the ’80s, still going strong on both sides of the river. These are unfussy pies, pale golden crusts supporting old-school pepperoni or thin slivers of green pepper; the shop often offers beer and slice specials throughout the day. The classic glass case always houses a chef’s special or two, whether it’s a standard like Hawaiian or something off-the-wall topped with, say, strawberries." - Nathan Williams

Portland Food Businesses and Restaurants Offering In-House Delivery | Eater Portland

"A longstanding Oregon pizzeria chain that offers elaborate pizzas and post–Little League staples like chicken-bacon-ranch or Hawaiian, but for me it’s really all about the plain pepperoni; you can order online or call in, and delivery range is specified via a map (roughly below Fremont, above Woodstock, west of 205, and east of Scholls Ferry)." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Google
We were recommended this place by our Airbnb hostess, and place DID NOT DISAPPOINT. I won't lie, I think the pizza I had here was better than the pizza I'd actually tried in New York a few years back (maybe I just tried the wrong places, but oh well). We came during happy hour (score!) so the pizza was discounted. I think that's like 2-5 in the afternoon. We tried vegetarian, cheese, combo, and margarita -- all were really good, I especially liked the vegetarian. The guys working at the counter honestly gave me the vibes of characters straight out of a Marvel comic (if there were characters serving pizza), you know? Very chill, friendly, and funny. Space was really nice and made me feel like I was in NYC.

Google
We’ve liked coming to this location for their happy hour slice specials for many years. You can get any slice for $3.50 from 2pm - 4pm and again in their last hour at night. Great slice choices. I had the Brooklyn which had sausage, red bell peppers, mushrooms and olives. The veggie and vegan slices looked delicious and my son loved his pepperoni slice. You can get a tall boy and a cheese slice for only $5.50! Crazy. Thin, delicious pizza and friendly staff. Recommended!!

Google
Good pizza. Fresh, hot and tasty. Selection of a few flavours at anyone time. Staff are friendly and helpful. Clean inside, clean bathrooms, little outdoor seating area at the back. Good value for money, just $10 for two slices and a refillable soda 🥤 Overall a good little spot to stop for a quick bite.

Google
just tried this place for the first time. ive lived out here my whole life but have never yet been to. this place is great. pizza is good, the vibes are good, workers were nice and funny, will definitely be going back. i checked out the negative reviews and laughed. we all know what kind of people posted those. this place is top notch and very portland. love this city and the like minded folk that surround me. they also played metal inside which is another level 5 star from me. go here if you're not a loser!

Google
My friend enjoyed the decor more than we did the actual pizza. If this is a NY style pizza (known for slices that are large and wide with a thin crust that is foldable yet crispy) then I'm absolutely glad I have not traveled to NY City just to be disappointed. I could be disappointed here. The bathroom didn't have any paper towels when I went. The pizza was super oily. Even Costco pizza doesn't leak as much! It fills a late night need but better pizza out there for sure. We just happened to be near here after visiting H Mart. Also the tip is based on a dollar amount instead of a percentage. If you're craving pizza go to Costco if you have a membership especially if you want a pepperoni or cheese pizza!

Robert S.

Google
By the slice or by the pie thin crust NY pizza good sauce tasty crust real cheese. Big slice for 5.00 is a good deal. Lower mark on service due to slice could have used more warm up time.

Salvador V.

Google
I visited NY Pizza in Belmont today and tried one of their vegan pizzas — it was so delicious I couldn’t stop thinking about it the rest of the day! The lady who helped me was incredibly kind and friendly. She insisted I take a plate instead of just a napkin so I wouldn’t burn my hand — and she was absolutely right. I can’t wait to go back and try more of their flavors. What a treat — so flavorful and perfectly made!

Matthew R.

Google
We ordered a couple Calzones on 5/15. These were tasty, but not calzones. I might call them "Pizza Twists" and they needed to be enjoyed with knife and fork because the center would just fall through when we tried picking it up. Again, tasty, but we ordered calzones and this wasn't it.

Yelp
It's always awesome to be able to snag a slice when you're really craving some pizza. They have a great deal for two slices and a drink it's just $9.75-we always snag a breadstick and ranch too because it's so good. Service can get a little busy but they do a darn god job feeding the masses. Casual dining but clean. Solid pizza!

Yelp
Great service, great pizza... Not Papa John's, but straight from New York. Pizza has to be the best New York Pizza in Portland. I highly recommend recommended it taste delicious and every bite and I always have to fold mine because it's generously huge as it should be. The surface is great and people that work there are very accommodating and kind and the ambience is banging with good music it's a great place to go and they're late For opening until 2 AM! be sure to stick around around closing time as they usually give out pizza for free so they don't have to throw it away if there are enough leftovers.
google avatar

Yelp
So glad this place is open late, perfect place to stop after the bars on Belmont. The pizza makers were fun and struck up conversation. We got the 5 cheese pizza, and it was so fresh and delicious. Must-get if you're on Belmont. Pizza took about 20 minutes from ordering.
google avatar

Allison C.

Yelp
Pizza had been left out for a while (you can taste it and they had to heat it up) and both employees used their bare hands to assemble salads, cut/handle pizzas etc
google avatar

Yelp
Went here for Pizza week. The special had mushrooms so I ordered pepperoni since I didn't want mushrooms. :-) It was busy! The place was packed. All the tables were dirty, and there was a line out the door. So I know this isn't the normal situation here but pizza week brings people in. The crust was decent... The red sauce was too sweet to my liking and more sauce than cheese. The Pepperoni slices, were decent and not too greasy. Ok pizza but I wouldn't drive here and deal with the congestion to have pizza again.
google avatar

JD O.

Yelp
Dude is soft spoken. Let's see how good the food is. So the food was amazing! The pizza and the wings were FIRE!! The service was okay, but the guy taking our order was so soft spoken and the music was loud enough, that I could barely hear him. Why 4 stars? I've been to many other pizza places before. This one had a small town feel, even though it was in the middle of Portland. I gave 4 stars for just 1 simple reason.....The coke tasted funny. We had to throw it out and get sprite instead....Maybe the nozzles need to be cleaned? I don't know, it just tasted weird... Overall this place was a good 4.5 stars...And I would definitely recommend to anyone stopping by or even staying in the Portland Oregon area....

Yelp
Love getting a slice here! If we want a NYC pizza, this is our usual go to. The crust is so good.
google avatar

Justine J.

Yelp
THANK YOU FROM PROVIDENCE NURSES Thank you for your love and support... that is the one thing that is possibly even more delicious and heart-warming than your pizza. Seriously: it meant a lot to us.
google avatar

Cristina C.

Yelp
We are on a search for the best pizza joint in the Portland metro area. This pizza joint was good, but not great. The flavors don't set it apart from any other pizza place. What is great are their deals for single slice meals. It's a good neighborhood spot.

Mike O.

Yelp
This place is one hot mess!!!!! The soda machine has half the flavors out, and the cashier is too frazzled to be able to change the emptys out!!! ALL tables are dirty, and we're STILL waiting for someone to come clean it off and wipe it down!!! The pizza wasn't half bad, but I'll NEVER come back to this train wreck of a pizza restaurant!!!!
google avatar

Humam T.

Yelp
I drove by this place many times and walk by this place even more times, and always wanted to try their pizza. Well today I made a u-turn as I was driving by and parked. There is plenty of Street parking. Their beer selection is decent. The pizzas reminded me of the kind of pizza you would find at sizzle pie. The atmosphere is relaxed, the employees were nice, and the pizza was a very good. Good beer, good pizza; life is good...

Daniel C.

Yelp
This place is an insult to New York and an insult to pizza. First, the 3 employees looked like bums who just rolled off a park bench and didn't care what clothes they put on before they came to work. Their lack of personal pride carries over into the Straight From New York establishment. And it shows. I ordered 2 slices and 12 wings to go. They warmed up my slices and then put them on top of the oven 15 minutes before they put the wings in the oven. Then the guy who took my order told me it's best to call and order wings in advance because of how long they take to cook. Keep in mind, he's telling me this when the wings were 5 minutes from being done cooking and I had been waiting for 30 minutes. Thanks for the heads up A-hole. I asked for 2 new slices since they had been waiting on top of the oven so long. They assured me that the top of the oven was hot enough to keep the pizza fresh, but just as I expected, my slices were like a stale old cracker. Even the cheese was hard. The crust crumbled like a saltine cracker. And this place is a big failure. I think they only stay in business because people there are too high to complain. Close this waste of space, please.

Craig S.

Yelp
Absolutely repugnant. I ordered a pizza for pickup - got there to pick it up a few minutes early - I see the cook go to a closet in the hallway, change his shoes, sticking his fingers all down in his shoe/feet, and then walk right back over to the pizza area and start tossing dough without washing his hands. I was beyond disgusted and told the very nice girl at the cash register that I simply could not eat anything made by this guy. Who knows what else that cook is doing and not washing his hands. Just disgusting. I live right across the street and have eaten here for years, but I think I'm done after that. Enjoy your foot pizza everyone!
google avatar

Steve H.

Yelp
Such great pizza!!! One of the best no frills ..."I feel like I'm in NYC" pizza shops in Portland. Not only the tried and try's slices but a variety of pies that can't be beat.
google avatar

Natalie E.

Yelp
Does anyone notice such a difference in quality from take out to in house slices? I love going in for a slice but every time I order take out it's little Cesar's at best. It's not the same pizza.
google avatar

Carlos D.

Yelp
Some of the worst customer service in Portland without fail. Employees literally don't even greet you or ask if they can get you anything, they just stare at you (if you're lucky enough to even have an employee visible and not in the back on their phone) until you ask them if you can order. Tonight an employee came in from their break with an open beverage container, set it in the clean food prep area behind the counter, and then picked up my pizza with her bare hands to put it in the oven??? Whyyyyy. Also, every table is always filthy even when it's completely dead in the restaurant, and the pizza is terrible. But truly, even bad pizza is fine in a pinch. The service is what convinces me to drive to Baby Doll every time. What is going on with this place?
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
I had never heard of this place before but saw it on the Portland Pizza Week website and thought their pizza idea was so interesting! It was called James and the Giant Peach and had peaches, balsamic glaze, and a cheese topping which was I think goat cheese. It was really busy when I went with my boyfriend which was expected because of Portland Pizza Week, but the line moved quickly and the process of getting the pizza was easy. The pizza was delicious! It was a typical New York style pizza with the thin, crispy crust and minimal sauce. The toppings were minimal but I think balanced everything well overall. The pizza was $3 for a slice I think and for Portland Pizza Week, it was one of my favorite pizzas! I would say I prefer other quick service pizza places more, but this is a solid choice if I'm ever in the area.

Yelp
SFNY is our second favorite NY slice in Portland behind Sizzle. We love that there are many convenient locations, rarely crowded, and pizza passes the NY flop test and has great taste. Order at the counter and feel free to grab a table to enjoy hot off the oven slices. Good selection of flavors or make your own pizza. They are fabulous at making afcomodations for dietary whether gluten free or dairy free. This place is definitely in our top rotations.
google avatar

Shane W.

Yelp
We tried the Mushroom: Impossible --Ricotta Protocol slice for pizza week and found it... interesting. The flavors were pretty great, especially the green goddess dressing, but it was very veg forward and reminded us more of a salad than a pizza slice. Could have used some more ricotta, more mushrooms, and a few extra minutes in the oven.

Kyle M.

Yelp
Food here is reliably solid but I've never experienced a place that is so consistently churning out the most prissy, stuck up assholes as this place. I live pretty close and every time I come in I'm ignored for about 5 minutes until someone comes over rolling their eyes at me acting as if me buying a slice of pizza ruined their day. Is this the culture that management cultivates? Or is it just such a shit show that they don't even know? Either way I'm appalled every time.
google avatar

Christy A.

Yelp
Ordered a calzone that listed marinara as an inside ingredient as well as a dipping sauce on the side. I also ordered an extra side of marinara. No sauce in the calzone, none came on the side and no extra arrived... super disappointing
google avatar

Ailene J.

Yelp
Love SFNY-I love a pizza that stands on its own and had some flavor in the sauce, crust and cheese. This one does just that. You don't need a bunch of toppings to weigh it down. All locations are good !
google avatar

Melissa G.

Yelp
After a night of fun and drinking in Portland we were hungry for pizza and came across this spot after doing a quick search for pizza around us. We were pleasantly surprised they were open late so we booked it over in our Uber. Great spot to get a custom pizza but for us it was all about the offering for slices! Yes slices! Pizza slices are the best way, IMO, to taste the best of the pizza spot. I ended up getting a white pie pizza with spinach that was delicious! My partner got good ol' classic pepperoni pizza slices and one slice with hamburger. The fact that I was able to be satisfied in finding a slice with no marinara really made my gut happy! Looks like they got beers in bottles and cans too if you want to pair your pizza up with some beer. Booths were spacious and staff was nice too! A great spot to go to if you want some late night NY-style pizza!
google avatar

Tari K.

Yelp
The pizzas here are delicious and very well made. I normally got it with door dash or Uber but need to go in and try it fresh out of the oven.
google avatar

Brandon E.

Yelp
Good pizza. The foldable pizza that is greasy in a good way. Sometimes the by the slice selection is limited. But who complains about classic pepperoni? The slices are a good size for portion. And their buffalo wings are delicious. Service is par for the course in Portland. Hit and miss. But nothing to complain over.
google avatar

Andi D.

Yelp
The pizza slice is so thin and they toast it up. Perfect snack walking around Portland
google avatar

Aaron M.

Yelp
Dough/crust, great job. Maybe thinner crust. Delicious though, so good. High quality.
google avatar

Gabriel B.

Yelp
I got cold pizza delivered first off but the pizza quality was HORRIBLE!!! The pizza tasted like it had been frozen and reheated. I threw the entire pizza besides 1 bite I took in the compost bin. Do not waste your money!
google avatar

Julia K.

Yelp
Love the thin crust pizza, always my go to! The crust is crispy and buttery pretty good!

Calien M.

Yelp
Str8 Up best pizza. Calie is the best chef and deserves a raise str8 away! Give him a raise and raise a glass to the best crust in town!
google avatar

Mikhail H.

Yelp
Not a bad plan to drop in for a slice or two and some soda...that is just what I did. I am one of those crazy people who believes pineapple does belong on pizza so I grabbed a slice of Canadian bacon and pineapple and a slice of cheese with some root beer. Delicious... and GREASY...use the paper...and A LOT of napkins. There is not a huge amount of sit space but this is more of that grab a slice, eat it and continue to wander vibe...or grab a pie to go!
google avatar

Clifton I.

Yelp
I was in need of a quick snack and decided to stop here for a slice. They have many pizzas premade that are sold by the slice. I chose pepperoni. The pizza put into the pizza ovenbefore it is served. The pizza was great, the dough was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I recomend this place.
google avatar

DivingButterfly K.

Yelp
So far the closest to NY style I've come across in Portland. Being able to get slices or whole pies is a plus. The pepperoni is not overly salty and very delicious.
google avatar

Rajesh K.

Yelp
I was really in the mood for a New York style pizza and went to trusted Yelp for some recommendations. One of the top recommendations was Straight from New York Pizza. This place resembles a typical Pizza Joint in NYC. You walk in, point out your slice, and pay. There are some booths inside and a nice patio seating outside. The veggie, cheese and pepperoni pizza here are all on the money and really good. The slices are big and thin with a really good sauce. The sauce is the key ingredient in the NY Pizza and these guys replicated it really well. This place is worth visiting for a quick grab of a NY slice and next time, I would try the calzone and the Margherita pizza
google avatar

Taj T.

Yelp
For Portland Pizza week, Straight from NY went with a wild, bok choy and gochujang pizza. It didn't really work because I found the gochujang just SO salty that it overpowered everything and made it a chore to eat. However, I so admire the ambition and creativity. And underneath all the salt was a very delicious sauce and a crust that was so beautifully chewy and crunchy. The crust truly did taste like authentic NYC pizza, so I've gotta recommend this pizza joint for having solid roots and the guts to be innovative.
google avatar

A. V.

Yelp
Delicious NY thin crust that still has a crispy bottom. I love the chef's choice mushroom and onion, and cheese. Teen loves the pepperoni.
google avatar

Wendy J.

Yelp
I always buy their dough when I feel like making my own pizza. $3 for a nice ball of dough and it's the best dough! Nice and chewy, salty...I'm drooling thinking about it. I got their cheese pizza and oh boy was it yummy. Ask for it well done and you're in for a tastebud heaven! Everyone that works there is super sweet and awesome. I love their pizza. Hate all you want, come by and have their dough or their pizza. You won't be disappointed
google avatar

Tom M.

Yelp
Excellent. Quality toppings, thin, flavorful crust that has a hint of crisp while maintaining a good chew, just the right amount of toppings and very friendly service. This was our first time trying SFNYPizza but we will be back in the future...probably quite often!
google avatar

Coco B.

Yelp
HELLO , ITS PIZZA AND FIRE You will love it ! I get mine extra crispy , but regardless this is really good !
google avatar

Ernie C.

Yelp
It's not common to find a real NY style pizza. We're not talk the floppy mess you get from Domino's or other fast food pizza chains. We're talking the legit NY style pizza. There's a few places in the Portland area that serves up this style pie, and Straight From New York Pizza does it right. I've spent some time in NYC, and had my share of pizza. Trust me, you don't get the gut I have without eating plenty of pizza. Toppings are your typical fare. They do have some interesting pre-made pies in their case, and then they have your usual faves too. Cheese is good. Not too much grease, but you still need to be careful if you're wearing a favorite shirt. Sauce is lightly spread on. Toppings are quality, and the crust is thin, crispy, crunchy, and has just a small amount of flip, but its not flimsy. Good size slices. (2 should fill even the most hungry.) I prefer a little more sauce, because I love a really good pizza sauce, but that's just me. Still great pizza!
google avatar

Michelle P.

Yelp
I paid almost $50 for a Caesar salad and a pizza. For some reason I can't upload the picture I took The pizza box was sitting on one of my porch columns, box partially open. And I decided to treat myself to a Caesar salad which I also have a picture of it I will try and upload later That box was on top of the pizza box which made the salad ""soggy and hot but I wouldn't of eaten it anyway because it was just lettuce croutons and some Parmesan cheese thrown on top There was a small container of dressing on the side I threw all of that away although it cost me a pretty penny but I want you all to know that this is not the place at the other reviewer's think it is And I won't reorder from now because I can barely eat what I spent over $40 on
google avatar

Veronica W.

Yelp
One of my favorite pizza spots in Portland. I started out by coming here after a night of drinking on Belmont and looked forward to it all night come to find out it's just as amazing if not better without 5 vodka sodas in me. This is definitely New York style pizza and the slices are huge but I can easily eat 3. Don't judge. I always get this to go or delivered and it's holds up very well. I wish I could explain how good the sauce they use is. It's to die for. I always get just cheese because it never disappoints and too perfect to mess up with toppings (IMO). I highly suggest checking this spot out.

Maria P.

Yelp
Yes! Yummmy, This pizza will have to do when I can't get to New York City anytime soon.
google avatar

Chase M.

Yelp
I just love this place, it's just so good, I always enjoy what they have to offer.. coming off pizza week I had a bad hankering for a repeat of some pizza and luckily we had a birthday party down the street that needed food, so we ended up here. We nabbed the back patio and the kids went wild as they took this over, it was a 10yr old party... so... we were glad to have our own space. Got the margarita pizza, it was super good and the cheese was amazing, but as usual if the tomatoes are juicy... so is the pizza, so that is a normal downfall. Also got the plain cheese, for the kids it was good... but really, I'm not going to go to far about the cheese... Lastly the pepperoni!! Now it was that good spicy pep that just melts its fats into whether whole pie and its cheese making it kinda that greasy orange.. it was amazing!! I just get the feels here!!

Yelp
After how great my first experience was here I couldn't wait to be back in Portland to return. What a let down. I walked into an empty restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. 3 guys working. One on the phone had to motion to the guys in the back to come help me.....after almost 5 minutes. Ordered a 14" Pepperoni and was quoted 20 minutes by the guy that took my order. After spending a few years in a pizzeria 20 minutes was a reasonable time for the volume I saw (tickets hanging) When I returned 20 minutes later I was told it would be an additional 10 minutes. Food was still great, but the service this time left a lot to be desired which put a damper on my appetite. I can say disappointing experience overall. Guess I'll try one of the other locations next time.

Felicia R.

Yelp
Cheese pizza by the slice was good. I would definitely recommend it. The worker recommended the lager that was delish had to go up for another.

Cassidy J.

Yelp
The pizza was a thing crusted and firm, but not to the point where it's hard, the perfect amount where it still bends so you gotta fold it in half to eat. The cheese is chewy but not in a bad way, in a comforting way. I came into this establishment not hungry at all but left wanting another slice. The environment is alive and welcoming. The price is alright but I would say you pay for what you get.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
Nothing special, nothing bad, just your run of the mill slice of NY pizza. Cheesy, thin crust, tasty toppings, good price (though value doesn't factor into final score). A few quotes from this endeavor: "This pizza tastes like pizza tasted as a kid" "Would be 7 points higher [out of 100] with a few beers in me" "There's a time and place for this kind of pizza, after hitting some bars before you go home" "Ranch is necessary" These quotes don't back this pizza as the greatest out there, but it makes you think, is this the pizza of a good time? Is this the pizza I crave when my drunken intuition takes over? Does this pizza make me remember the good times, when I was a kid? All things aside, they nailed the NY style, great outdoor seating with heaters, friendly staff, and piping hot pie.
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
Food was great. Service was OK. Music was super loud. We asked the server to lower the volume and she did. But 5 mins later it went back to super loud.
google avatar

Casey A.

Yelp
This place is supposed to close at midnight but they actually close at 11:30. So if you're like me and you plan your whole night around being able to get food before midnight you'll be fucked.
