Phoenix’s Best Whiskey Bars | Eater Phoenix

"This fun throwback to the speakeasy age sits in the Hotel Adeline. If you can find the hidden door entrance and know how to get in (hint, look for the phone booth and try an “Old Fashioned” password), you’ll be rewarded with a wonderfully curated list of whiskey selections. There are premium and reserve bottles available, but don’t miss out on the cocktails, which combine classics and imaginative twists." - Asonta Benetti

Don't forget to call ahead to check if it's open! I recently met up with a coworker who was excited to visit the speakeasy, but to our surprise, it was closed for reservations. No worries, though! We decided to meet at the hotel restaurant instead, and it turned out to be a fantastic choice. The service was top-notch, and the drinks were just what we needed. The tacos were delicious! The hotel itself had a great vibe and atmosphere. Overall, it was a wonderful spot to unwind and enjoy some good company!

BEWARE- BAD OR NO SERVICE! On July 4th, my husband and I were guests at Hotel Adeline and wanted to check out this speakeasy with two friends who were also guests at the hotel. The server refused to serve us for no reason at all. We came in, sat down, and only mingled amongst ourselves. All of a sudden, the server told us she didn’t feel comfortable serving us. We didn’t behave inappropriately or unacceptably to warrant this kind of treatment. We didn’t even argue with her and just left. This was our first time here and definitely will be our last. How they are still in business is shocking to me. We own a small business ourselves and wouldn’t turn away business for no reason. Save yourself the trouble and spend your money elsewhere. There’s a ton of other nearby bars in this area with great service.

Such a fun speak easy. A quaint spot in a hotel. Bartender was great made a special drink based on what we were feeling like drinking. The ambience was great.

As a cocktail writer, my duty in life is to seek out the nearest bars in my travels. Luckily, my stay at Hotel Adeline was made better via its Straight Up speakeasy. Yes, they have a gimmicky password phone service but hey, it's still kind of fun. The gentleman tending bar was efficient, friendly, and knows how to pour. If you're in the market for a drink that'll kick you in the teeth, the Kingston Negroni (created by the great Joaquin Simon) is the one you want

The bartender served us right away and was super helpful in making sure we got drinks we enjoyed. This speakeasy has more of a home library-vibe and isn't too big, but it's still a nice spot to try out. Don't be misled by the fact this is a whiskey bar; they have several other types of cocktails too. Their espresso martini is quite good!

Horrible experience with Server Gee. My mother was ordering a Remy and Gingerale. The server stated she didn’t have Gingerale. So my fiancé asked, “do you have ginger beer?” The server immediately got upset and said I am talking to the lady and NOT you to my fiancé. My fiancé said “excuse me? That is my mother and I am just asking a question” the server then repeatedly asked my fiancé to leave, got into his face, was very rude and disrespectful and called him a “ misogynist” . Clearly this server has a weird dynamic with men and needs to leave her personal life at home. THIS WAS OUR FIRST AND LAST TIME AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT! DISGUSTING.

Yelp
Stopped in here after dinner and after another bar nearby. It was both of our first time here. The front desk knew exactly the place we were looking for and asked us if we had the password. It was posted up at the front desk. All we had to do was find the phone and give the password when they pick up. The wall opened up and we walked in and sat at the bar. Gee (sorry if I spelled it wrong) was wonderful! She helped us with choosing a drink and chatted with us. Our order: Chicago Fizz $15 Toronto $18 Fernet Branca $? My Chicago Fizz was good! I would get that again. The other two were pretty strong and not my type of drinks but he liked them. I think he may have gotten 2 Fernet Brancas. I took a sip of that and couldn't drink it. There were a few tables occupied when we got there around 7:45pm but then they left not too long after and other parties walked in later. Think we left around 8:45 or so. I would come back and try another cocktail next time! Loved the cool entrance!

Yelp
We ended 2 of our 3 nights here. Nathan was swamped night one and still provided great service and was so personable. This is a small speakeasy place but a very approachable whiskey bar, even for 2 women. The second night I felt like a whiskey drink had to be the move and I'm so glad that was the case. The old fashion was fantastic. Nathan, the bartender, even remembered us from the night before which was cool. Highly recommend if you are in the area, especially if you love whiskey

Yelp
Tucked into Hotel Adeline, Straight Up is a nice little speak easy just northeast of Fashion Square in Scottsdale. You enter through the main entrance in the hotel and head to the right where you will have to figure out how to get into the phone booth (ask the front desk if you can't figure out) ;) Jee has made a wonderful menu with custom cocktails that she brings a wealth of experience from Melinda's Alley in downtown Phoenix and there is guaranteed to be something for everyone on her menu! I had a handful of cocktails on my first visit including the Ice Queen Version 2, Call me Clancy, Ready for my Closeup, and the Hemingway Special, all were fantastic and filled with flavor. Jee made sure we were well taken care of the whole night and has probably the best and most friendly personality out of any bartender I've come across, she'll recommend stuff too if you're not sure what to get. If you're a fan of the downtown PHX craft cocktail scene (Melinda's Alley, Bitter & Twisted, Little Rituals), you'll love this place in Scottsdale and it's old school classy vibe. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Neat bar tucked away in hotel Adeline. G was a wonderful bartender, serving delicious espresso martinis. Unique spot to enjoy a drink!

Yelp
Straight Up in the Hotel Adeline in Scottsdale is an adorable speakeasy with amazing cocktails! Come in through a door in the phone booth and see the eccentric decor and fully stocked bar. Jee makes the absolute best drinks and can tailor cocktails to whatever your preferences are. I got a Wham! Monkey and a customized cocktail with gin and aloe, both of which were absolutely delicious and packed a punch!

Yelp
This little speakeasy has a nice ambience, and a cool little entrance from the hotel. I was there on a Sunday night before memorial day with a friend, arrived around 8 o'clock. We were the only people there. The overall drink menu is somewhat limited, as is their selection of whiskey. I was actually a little underwhelmed with their overall selection. The bartender, G, frankly, one of the least pleasant bartenders I've ever had. Possibly because of the mandatory gratuity. Overall, this place has potential, but is going to need to do a little bit more on the appeal of the drinks and the service in order to develop any kind of a following.

Yelp
Amazing hidden spot. They don't open till 7. It requires a hidden specialty code in the lobby. Drinks are amazing and the vibes are casual. Come here with a small group and don't be late. It's POPULAR. Bartenders are amazing.

Yelp
Awesome speakeasy vibe. I'm not sure what it's like during a hotel packed weekend but during the week it was nice to grab a well made craft cocktail
