We love Strange Town and it is one of our favorite restaurants in the city. The dishes are creative and tasty, the wine list is always awesome and unique, and the staff are the nicest. The spring menu is so good! I highly recommend you come here if you love food. As a side note, we are far from vegan but good food is good food. Don’t be scared to come if you don’t follow a plant-based diet. You won’t feel like you are missing anything at all!

Google
One of my favorite spots in the city. We bring all our friends to try the chocolate cake!! The staff are so sweet (We loveeeee Maggie), the atmosphere is incredible, the food is delectable! HIGHLY recommend.

Google
Delicious food, very friendly service, and a cozy atmosphere with a live vinyl DJ. Great spot for a date night, and dishes are sharable. We got the nachos and kimchi soba noodles. Both were excellent, especially enjoyed the carrot queso on the nachos 😋

Went on a Thursday night and everything hit just right. Chill vibe, amazing vegan plates made for sharing, and flavors that actually surprise you. The kombucha from Illinois was insanely good, and the CBD/THC drink was smooth and mellow without knocking me out. Can’t wait to come back and see what new dishes pop up with the seasons.

Google
Marvelous little place with wonderful food and an extensive cocktail list. I was under time restraints, but is a place to spend time, unwind and enjoy small plates. The wild mushroom chili was exceptional.

Google
Aaaaaamazing!!!!!! Maggie the server! She took really good care of me! The food is great, but her personality set the entire mood and ambience for me! After that true vegan experience, I can confidently start my plant based lifestyle! I AM more than ready ❤️❤️❤️

Not vegan, but wanted to try something new and to my delight, it did not disappoint. I had nachos, it was simply divine! My waiter was very knowledgeable and a pleasure. Thank you for a great experience.

Google
Wow! What an amazing night I’m so excited I found this restaurant! Atmosphere was so fun drinks and half price bottle of wine was delicious. I have severe allergies to milk and I was stress free ordering off the menu. Dishes were outstanding. I loved the potatoes and orange wine selection.

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner with my husband on a warm summer Thursday and had a lovely experience. Our server Maggie was such a delight. Fun, friendly, and very knowledgeable. Whenever we visit, we like to "play" with ordering whatever catches our curiosity. This time, we enjoyed the Zucchini Crostini on wonderful amaranth bread, the zesty Summer Sunchoke Caesar Salad... and WINE, always wine. The Christina Rosé was a favorite, bright and unique. Another food-friendly winner from their thoughtful and exploratory list!

Yelp
Strange Town pairs amazing mixology with delicious (and usually pretty visually appealing!) eats. I've come here on a few occasions and have enjoyed my experience. They have outdoor (sidewalk) seating and all the times I've been here the weather has been pleasant so I sat outdoors. Their cocktails are lovely and inventive twists on classics. The food is impeccable. I have ordered and loved their nachos (with a flower perched atop no less) and their tomato tartine with cashew ricotta is live changing. I think their menu changes to accommodate what is seasonally fresh and fabulous but truly anything you order here is remarkable. I'm not strictly vegan and have completely changed my at home eating habits based on dishes here (ie: I try to only ever buy cashew ricotta because it's better to me than the dairy variety). The service is kind and the atmosphere is delightful. Get to it!

Yelp
The service was really good. The decor is amazing! I love the plants! The music was slightly too loud. The online menu was wrong. The food wasn't great, but overpriced. The options are limited. Nachos were good. The "cheese" doesn't taste like cheese, nor does it try to. Even just the "cheese" still tastes like nachos. It's not warm, which threw me off. $18 The hummus tasted rather average or plain. Maybe needed salt. The naan and pickled veggies were tasty. $16 The panna cotta had a lot of flavors that for me didn't go together.

Yelp
Elevated dining, entirely plant based. Absolutely delicious. I didn't get any pics of the food because we inhaled everything. The nachos were delightful and had a nice well of additional toppings at the bottom. Kimchi noodles were delicious with bright flavors and textures. The drinks were incredible, especially the N/A options. Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive.

Yelp
I've been to Strange Town a number of times at this point and have yet to be disappointed. The first time I took myself out for a date (wine and reading). Such a unique, funky, and interesting space. Being a veg myself, I was delighted to try out a number of dishes on the menu. All so tasty! their wine list is amazing. I know very little about wine, but they seem to have crafted a remarkable wine list for a small restaurant. The waitress who helped me was very kind and let me take my time with the menu. I had to narrow it down to a few options since it was just me. She was super attentive, but let me have my space as well. It's in a great location on the East Side, walkable to a number of breweries, bars, and shopping. I enjoyed my time at Strange Town, reading my book and drinking wine. Highly recommend especially if you live on the East Side and/or are vegetarian or vegan.

Yelp
I love this place! So cute and intimate. It's one of the few vegan options that provides no disappointing dish. The olive & fig tapenade was a nice way to start the meal. And they have a great variety of wines, including orange ones which are fun to try. We weren't hungry enough to order entrees, but can't wait to go back to try some and more of the vino. Great spot!

Yelp
My friend and I decided to try Strange Town recently for dinner. We went early and were able to be seated immediately. The space is quite small, but quaint. Outdoor seating is on the sidewalk. Our server was extremely enthusiastic and bubbly. We started with the Swan & Mercy cocktail, which they customized to be slightly less intensely alcohol forward for my friend. The menu did not mention that it was smoked, however, which can be a negative surprise. I liked it. We tried the tapenade, which was good, but the dates pushed it a little too much to the sweet side for our palates. There was also not nearly enough bread served with it and when we requested more, we were not informed that they were going to charge us $4. That's a lot for some bread slices. We split the Asparagus Panise and the special - a Lions Mane Congee with sea beans. We enjoyed the Panise, but the Congee was the star of the night - subtle and elegant flavors. We were not impressed by our bill. $95 and change for two drinks, an app and two small "mains" is a lot. I felt overcharged and annoyed at the end, despite the interesting food. There are other places doing as much for less and places doing more at the same price point.

Yelp
Seriously some of the freshest flavorful food we have had. Maggie, our server, was energetic and helpful in suggestions. We had the tomato soup that had so much flavor!! Then the roasted veggies on tahini and my husband said he would come back tomorrow for the nachos. All around A+

Yelp
Stopped by for dinner on a Friday evening. We were seated and our waitress came and took our order. She was extremely nice and helpful, making the experience great. I really loved the aesthetic of the restaurant with all the plants. They were on their winter menu and we ended up getting 5 plates including the bread, crispy smashed potatoes, mushroom polenta, the cassoulet, and the daikon cakes. The potatoes were just okay but the daikon cake was amazing. We also got two desserts, the chocolate cake which was very delicious, not too overpowering, and baklava which was just okay. Overall, there were very strong dishes and dishes that were okay. As a non vegan/vegetarian it was an enjoyable experience.

Yelp
The name "Strange town" definitely fits the food, if you're looking to try something new, and be a bit adventurous, this is the place for you! Lovely servers, and an ever-changing menu, I love coming here with a few friends especially for outdoor dining in the nicer seasons. Here is a picture I took a while ago when eating here, the food is always beautifully prepared and plated!

Julie B.

Yelp
The food is just meh. It didn't taste bad, it was either bland or barely flavorful. The nachos has very little toppings on them. The one star is because the prices are exorbitant for how little food there is AND how overall flavorless everything was. Service was good, everyone was nice and professional. Pretentious prices for very mediocre food.

Yelp
Strange town's food is incredible, but the ambiance there, oh! you feel welcomed and appreciated for who you are and supported. What an amazing place!

Yelp
I just went with my friends and was super excited to go to an all vegan restaurant. I was very disappointed with what I ended up with. We got there a half hour after they opened and they were already out of over half the menu. The waitress was rude and didn't remember to put in half the order. We got the cold edamame kimchi salad that had absolutely no flavor. We ended up cancelling the rest of the order and leaving because it was such a disappointment.

Yelp
Got a chance to try some yummy Rosé at Rosefest today from Syrange Town, and man was it so yummy and high quality. Strange Town organized the Roséfest with absolute finesse with so many great vendors in one single spot. The drinks greatly complemented the pizza from flour girl and flame. I can't wait to go back for an indoor dinning experience soon. Update : went back for drink and dessert and it was absolutely out of this world. How Mia makes these yummy delights vegan and gluten free is beyond me. Definitely one of my new favorites in Milwaukee

Yelp
I ordered from Strange Town for the first time last night, and was pleasantly surprised. I am a meat eater. I only go to vegetarian/vegan restaurants when I dine with a friend that prefers vegetarian/vegan food. The list of food options on the menu was small, butbif you like wine, the wine list went on for days. I ordered the Forbidden Rice Balls and the Mushroom Tartine. The rice balls are made with bkack rice and served with a spicy and delicious kimchi puree, sesame marinated mushrooms that were chopped to tiny bits, but also delicious, and scallions. The Mushroom Tartine presentation was not what I expected, but the flavors exceeded my expectations. I expected flaky pastry with mushrooms in or over it, but it was more of a mushroom bruschetta, and since it was for carry-out, it was served as build-your-own, which I was fine with. Four slices of french baquette from local Amaranth Bakery were served with local mushroom amd shallot confit, a cashew cream cheese, and alfalfa sprouts for garnish. My order was ready just a few minutes past the time provided to me, and the dishes traveled well, so I was pleased with my first Strange Town experience, and I highly recommend both if the dishes I ordered!

Yelp
One of the best meals I've had in a while. Food, wine, and cocktails were all A+. Sometimes these hipstery places get too cute with the food -- everything we tried was simple and delicious and homey. Strong, clear flavors balanced beautifully.

Yelp
YES Strange Town ily! I've been wanting to check this place out for so long, and finally the hubby took me for date night! They are a plant-based bistro, but you certainly don't have to be a vegetarian or vegan to enjoy their food! We had a 6:45pm rez on a Wednesday night, which was worked out perfectly, as the place was otherwise full when we arrived. It's only small inside, maybe 6-8 tables as well as a bar you're able to sit at. I love the smaller and quaint size, it gives the place such a homey-feel. As does the decor and overall atmosphere. We were sat at a two-top and taken care of by a lovely server. She answered all of our questions (being the newbies we were) and gave us plenty of recommendations. She was also sure to tell us that it was 1/2 off women-owned bottles of wine (love that!), so we went with a bottle of white called Dandelion. Delicious. The menu is all made to be small-plates and shareables, so she'd explained anywhere from 3-4 sides would suit two people. Our picks: Olives to start that included tastes of orange peel, shaved fennel and garlic. The tacu tacu which was heirloom mayocoba bean + basmati cake, poblano coulis, avocado salad, sunflower sprouts, aji chili, and tortilla chip dust. And lastly, the sweet potato & kale chaat: curried chickpeas, herb chutney, tamarind date chutney, pickled mango coconut yogurt, and crunchy sev. Incase the descriptions didn't give it away, the flavors were absolutely delightful. Great service, wine, food, and vibes. What's not to love?

Yelp
I went here on business and this place is vegan so you know I was gonna try. The thing I liked about this place is that it's menu had a huge variety of cuisines. It had Asian inspired stuff as well as American and just a bunch of things, very random. I guess that's why they call it strange town. Anyway, the food that I ended up getting tasted sooo good! It was an Asian inspired dish. The presentation of the food here is also so cute to where you almost don't even want to eat it! I still remember the tiny flowers on the desert that I got. Super cute and they were edible. Next time I am in Milwaukee for work I want to try and eat here again!

Yelp
WOW! Just wow! From the menu to the decor to the wine to the service. This place was simply outstanding. It's really, really good food! Not "good for vegan" or "good for Milwaukee." It's just plain good! The menu is small, but creative. We had the yuba, the egg rolls and the standout "fancy nachos." All were unique and tasty. We also enjoyed two flights of wine - red and orange. Again, inspired and inspiring! Can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu!

Yelp
Have you ever had a meal that feels so delectably, satisfying... So exquisitely insatiable... that you are scared if you indulge in it too often, you could sense the magic leaving... That is how I would describe my exact experience each time I dine @strangetownmke on Milwaukee's East Side. The atmosphere embraces you with an eclectic, boho-vibe... The sounds of lightly clanging forks on similar, but not twin plates... interesting music genres and intimate conversations... All the while surrounded by natures interesting plantife... The food, I tried to find the perfect words, but all I can say is.... If you are willing to have your world sincerely, yet thoroughly rocked... please visit @strangetownmke Ps! A huge shout out to Siris our attentatively awesome server and the beautiful chefs! You made our experience tonight, and each time seriously unforgettable! Salud!

Yelp
Milwakee is a great town for hidden gems. My wife found this vegan bar on LaFayette Place. This low key part of town is where Strange Town is. A quirky terra cotta building, the small space has a bar and about six tables. We ordered a cocktail with the mushroom egg rolls and the potato croquettes. All was yummy. This place is good. They add a mandatory 20% tip. For two with drinks, small plates and tip is around $80.

Yelp
#vegan - all vegan food It is definitely strange.... but I am not sure what they were going for here. Strange town to me just ... not that. This place is a little spot on a corner street, not easy to pick out if you were just driving by. Nice small outside area which I was since... COVID. The waitress was really nice. The food is delicious. Its so fresh. Just good. ASK for dessery because it wasnt on the menu! The menu is small and it is made to be shareable plates. The food is SO FANCY and seems to be Indian style. My table and I tried several things, including the housemade peanutbutter icecream. All very very good. Just.... like for example the kimchi option was three tiny slices of baguette and cost 15$. It is tiny fancy delicious expensive "meals". I am glad I went. It was an experience. I would go again but it just wont be a regular spot. Give it a try!

Yelp
I stopped in to Strange Town before an event nearby and was impressed with the warm service and great food. I sat at the bar and tried their special drink - mulled wine. It was good and strong. I ordered the olives with orange peel, shaved fennel, and garlic. This was an assortment of olives and the flavors were nice and mild. I also got the butternut squash with poblano coulis, coconut yogurt, and pepitas, which was fantastic. The two small dishes together were perfect complements, too. The inside of this place is just so cozy and welcoming. I was so, so glad I stopped by that night and will return.

Yelp
High quality, creative menu. Wine bar vibes with yummy craft cocktails. Quaint on the inside, we sat outside. Great service.

Yelp
Cool hipster new place that we discovered after finding out Allium was no longer. They've got LP records playing that night. Very similar look and feel with the succulents sitting by the windows and hanging plants. Staff were nice and professional. We ordered the eggplant involtini, pretty tasty with the olives and pesto. I am not obsessed over olives so the dish was pretty good for a non-olive lover. I loved the eggplant part and the backsmell of this dish made it tastier. I recommend ordering this dish. Also tried aloo gobi chaat, which was my favorite. Best way I could describe this is a mild version of an Indian dish. Less spicy but still flavorful. I liked the texture from the cauliflower try this! Third dish, the butternut squash was chewy. The flavor was decent, and I was not fond of the amount of chewing effort. It was challenging to cut the squash pieces with a bread knife and my teeth. Maybe it was a defective dish out of the many butternut squash that have been ordered, so depending on which one you get it could be good. There is potential in this dish and could definitely be improved, in my opinion. Also, I would recommend eating it if you want to save your money, as no refund is given. Or skip ordering this altogether. Rebounded by ordering a fourth dish, the mushroom tartine, I loved this. If you like mushrooms and bread get this right now. And it's gluten free. Overall a decent experience.

Yelp
There were four of us and we went to eat, not drink. (HOWEVER, their drink menu is fantastic--lots of variety and creative items. So: they deserve five stars if you'd like to imbibe. Go for it.) If you want to eat though, wait until you've had a few and the food might be okay. After all you've got to eat something, right? A good example of underwhelming and odd cuisine: we had a beet dish. The beets were roasted, dehydrated, then rehydrated...(Or were they dehydrated, rehydrated then roasted?) Whatever the order, they were murdered. I did not know you could kill a beet. We had a salad of tomatoes, zucchini and greens. The tomatoes were exquisitely fresh and real, like they haven't tasted since my childhood, in the 1960s. Unlike the other salad ingredients, their fulsome flavor was not ruined by the dressing, which was indistinct, kind of bland, not interesting. I would have preferred the other ingredients plain. I apologize, but I can't remember the ingredients. All I know is that I don't ever want to have that taste in my mouth again. (Please note that I have eaten delicacies and gourmet foods in numerous countries, on four continents, and I'm neither a philistine, nor a snob.) Six dishes, a dessert and one canned drink came out to $140 (including a mandatory 20% gratuity.) Ouch. Way too much for the smallest of not-enough-to-share dishes. Never have so few, paid so much, for so little. Again, go for the drinks and the atmosphere. But eat beforehand. You will leave hungry, and probably without an appetite.

Yelp
I love this place! Truly a gem on the east side & one of the reasons I love my neighborhood. Great cocktails, excellent food & of course an amazing selection of wine. It's so nice being able to order any wine and know it is vegan, especially on Wednesdays when it's half off bottles. The staff is incredibly nice. I look forward to eating outside in the summer when my dog can sit next to me, but the indoor seating is perfectly intimate & cozy in the winter! I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an enjoyable evening out.
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
Looking for a perfect spot to cozy up this winter? Don't sleep on Strange Town! It is a lovely blend of an intimate atmosphere, natural wines, and fresh, seasonal dishes. Highly recommend going on a Wednesday for half priced wine, which comes to a great deal! We tried three small plates and loved them all! The dishes are amazing, and you won't believe they are all veg centered!
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
This is such a cute place with really great vegan food! Strange Town definitely does not disappoint, especially for non-vegans! We started with the carrot queso. I loved this! It was a great dip, and the salsa it came with was also delicious. I also had the eggplant caponata as a torta, and it was this delicious sandwich with a spicy eggplant mixture and cashew cheese. I wish there was a little more filling, since the bread was so big, but it was still really tasty and came with a nice little salad. My friend had a beet salad which was also a great lunch option! All in all, this place has great options for vegans, and can give non vegans a chance to see what variety the meatless world can offer.

Monica H.

Yelp
Ok, this may be my new favorite place. The vibe here is fantastic. Funky hygge is what we decided was the best description. Cool and moody blue and red lighting, tons of plants, historic building, big windows...there's no bad seat in the house. It's a tiny restaurant, so make sure to make a reservation. We had a 7:30 PM on a Friday and it was packed. We got the hummus plate and the mushroom matar- SO YUMMY. Great flavors, textures, spices- yum. We also got the elderberry creme brûlée for dessert and it was a perfect way to end the meal. I wish they served decaf coffee but I understand that for a small places that's normal to not offer coffee drinks. You don't have to be vegan/vegetarian to enjoy this place. We will be back- well done, Strange Town. P.S. Only one small complaint- servers were nice and informative but they need to be better at pre-bussing tables. A beer glass could have been cleared 3 times when our server(s) came by and chatted with us and they never grabbed it. We also had to ask for something to be boxed up vs. them offering when they saw our plate off to the side. They also had numerous opportunities to up-sell and didn't. Small things but both of us are former servers and those things stand out.

Mogla M.

Yelp
I was just dropping my child off for rehearsals, but he loves Strange Town and he has grown as an actor with the company. Would recommend.

Yelp
Giant drink list, Not many food options but delicious nonetheless. Tiny portions & a bit on the pricey end. The fig & Olive Tapenade was fantastic, The sauce for the Yuba dish was tasty, Wasn't crazy about the apricot pistachio panna cotta dessert.. if you go with a group, you might have to get everything on the short menu. The service was great!!

Yelp
My favorite spot in Milwaukee. If I'm in town for the week I'm here at least twice. Amazing wine selection, including orange/skin contact wines, delicious vegan food not trying to masquerade as meat, just elevating those plants to high heaven. Def recommend the tacu tacu it's so good, and their hummus... Basically my advice is just stop reading this review and get over there now.

Meghna S P.

Yelp
I recently visited strange town in Milwaukee and was super thrilled to come here as I am exploring vegan restive lately. Came here with couple friends and we ordered a few drinks to start off. They were out of a few ciders but we ended up getting one of the ones that was in the menu from Spain. It had a unique taste and quite different from the ciders you have in US. Give it a go. The wines I thought were very expensive given the amounts they served. My friends got some and they seemed to enjoy it. Since it's a shared plates place we got a few items to start with and see how it went from there.. the hummus was really good, I got the mushroom polenta which sounded really amazing but tasted a bit underwhelming.. I think it could be improved by adding perhaps truffle oil to it. I think their CBD Kombucha is famous here which my friends tried too. Strange town had very different kind of music.. at one point we felt like we were sitting in some Warner Brothers studio hahaha! I am gonna come here again and recommend trying this out!

Yelp
I am so excited to see the former-Allium space filled with such a neat restaurant! Since they opened, I have been there twice for dinner (once on their opening night.) The space still has the basic comforting feel of Allium, but with a fresh and clean spin. The new floors and bar detail add a lot of simple charm that gives the new restaurant its own vibe. Things beyond the remodel that I love so far include the food, the drinks and the service. So pretty much everything! Right away on opening night, I was amazed at how quick and friendly the service was. Both times, everything we ordered came out timely and were delicious. As the menu is almost all gluten free and vegan, I was excited to welcome them no matter what. But they went above and beyond with creative and yummy dishes. Some things I recommend (as of now) include their olives, their kombucha aperitif, and the arincini. The waitress told us that the menu would be changing regularly, so I'm excited to see what else they cook up! Can't recommend Strange Town enough! It certainly is a wonderful and welcome addition to the East Side!

Yelp
LOVED everything about Strange Town. Incredible service (even more outstanding since at the beginning we had a crabby baby with us). Great drink selection. And in spite of me enjoying meat, I didn't miss it because the quality of their food and variety of flavors made me feel like absolutely nothing was missing. I love the decor, very warm and inviting; just a cute spot I could see myself even coming alone for a glass of wine and a little appetizer. I will definitely be back. Maybe once a week if I can afford it

Yelp
I had a decent experience at strange town. Although I really really wanted to like it, and the food was interesting enough and tasted fine, nothing really made me want to come back. I felt it all honestly looked better than it tasted, sadly. It was also pricy, especially for the portions. For example, the hummus was $12, and just okay. Meanwhile, an old staple down the block has a $5 hummus appetizer that is far more delicious. Served with okay bread, no refills on bread offered. 3 rice balls were also $12. Tacu tacu was about the size of a single veggie burger patty and $9. Again, everything was okay, but nothing really knocked my socks off. Honestly, other non-vegan places in Milwaukee do vegan tapas better at lower prices. Service was also just okay; certainly not excellent, warm, or kind service. Food also came out very slowly (like 20 minutes between each of the 5 dishes we ordered) and the restaurant was not busy. I'm not sure... I didn't dislike my food, I guess I just had expected more from the hype, good reviews, interesting-looking menu, and beautiful plating. I really wanted to love it, but it ended up just being a mediocre dining experience.

Yelp
Tried this beautiful little vegan place last night. The flavors are fresh and unique. The menu is smaller, but the options are intriguing and everything we had was delicious. Our waitress was helpful in guiding our decisions. The January salad is a Caesar with perfect croutons and an amazingly fresh dressing. We also tried the apple cake for dessert that was delightful! Definitely looking forward to coming back here again.

Yelp
Lovely plant-based spot! Wine menu is incredible and marks makers based on things like woman-owned, sustainability, ethics sourcing. Good conversation fodder as well as factors to consider continually taking into account. Decorations quirky and fun, music as well. Great date spot!! Would highly recommend the tacu tacu (expect a little kick), daily soup and dessert selections, and frijoles con queso (very filling).

Yelp
Very good vegan/plant based food. The wine selection was also great as it was the service. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Okay, I'm not vegan. I'm not even vegetarian. I am flexitarian, which mostly means I don't eat a lot of meat or dairy, but I'm less annoying at dinner parties. My best friend is vegan, so whenever she visits from NYC I try to take her to the latest and greatest vegan eateries in the Milwaukee. I had been hearing lots of good things about Strange Town. I mean, meatless+small plates= totally my jam. The place is cozy, so I definitely recommend making reservations. The decor is off beat and visually interesting, so its small size is seemingly less noticeable. The staff is super cool and really laid back. They are also great at timing small plates. I loath getting tapas that all come out at the same time. Nobody wants to get an elbow in the hummus or realize how much food was actually ordered. My husband joined us on our little trip, largely because there was East side driving and parallel parking involved, but he makes a the best third wheel. The waiter recommended ordering 4 plates for our party of three, but he clearly had no idea we all have second stomachs for plant-based yum yums. We started with the Indian snacks. These were a flavorful, crunchy, little bar snack. This was a great way to break things up between creamy, saucy dishes. Then came the Queso and chips. I don't know what vegan gods they sacrificed their children to in the kitchen for this recipe, but this was so convincing I was questioning if they were secretly melting down Velveeta back there. My husband is the least vegan person I know and wanted a second round of this stuff. DO IT! Next came kimchi toasts and a creamy mushroom patar (spelling?) with pitas. Both were excellent! I prefer my kimchi to be more on the spicy side, but this had great flavor despite its lack of heat. The mushroom dish reminded me of a creamy curry. It was definitely one of those things that I wanted to lap up off of the bowl when only drops remained. Then came the whole roasted cauliflower with tahini sauce. This was an absolutely stunning dish. The cauliflower was perfectly brown and surrounded by a citrusy tahini sauce and french fried onions for crunch. For me, the sauce was a miss, but the cauliflower and crunchy bits were so good on their own. I love tahini, but it can be a little on the bitter side, which I found off-putting. Shortly after this, our roasted brussel sprouts came. These were also fantastic. The sharpness of the sprouts was perfectly balanced by the balsamic and the hazelnuts sprinkled around the plate added a nice texture. Finally, we had our last dish and it was the only dud of the night. We ordered the arancini, which are basically deep fried balls of rice with cheese holding them all together. These particular arancini had a very heavy liquid smoke flavor. I dislike liquid smoke because it gets overpowering really quickly. They did have a great crunchy exterior and good texture. A little lighter on the faux-smoke and these would have been rice ball perfection. Of all the vegan eateries in Milwaukee, Strange Town is probably pretty tops on the list. One of the nicest things is that all of the dishes are vegan; they aren't just offering substitutions for otherwise meaty dishes. The kitchen managed to fully embrace the plethora of natural flavors plant-based dishes have and kicked them up 10 notches. I would definitely encourage everyone, vegan and non-vegan alike, to give this place a try.

Yelp
My wife and I adhere to a whole food plant based diet, so when we heard about Strange Town, we had to check it out. We are so happy we did! We have eaten here twice in the past two weeks, both were Saturday evenings. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended. We booked a 5 p.m. seating using Open Table both times. The atmosphere is cozy, servers are friendly and knowledgeable about the food, and the vibe is comfortable. There is no hurry here. This food is prepared with care. Cooking vegan takes time and the ingredients are delicious. On both visits we had the mushroom soup. It could be a little hotter by my preference but that's not a big concern when the taste is this good. We also enjoyed roasted root vegetable galettes, mushroom tartine, and those desserts....German chocolate cake, "cheesecake" with fruit topping, and creme brûlée.....all vegan. All delicious. We'll be back!

Yelp
I went to Strange Town for cocktails with friends. We never ate, and thus this review is for my favorite pastime of drinking. Strange Town has a cool, truly hip vibe, without a hint of pretension. It isn't trying. It just is. The staff was as nice as could be and the cocktails were all delicious and soothing on this hot and muggy last day of June. I'm an old fart, certainly not doing anything to add to the hip quotient of Strange Town. Yet, I was treated with grace and dignity, something that rarely happens at the few "au courant" bars in Salt Lake City, the place I am now compelled to call home. Strange Town is a wonderful representative of my real home Milwaukee, becoming world class while still maintaining a sense of egalitarian wholesomeness. Bravo!

Yelp
I personally am not vegan, but a college friend of mine who was in town is. She found this place online before she even got here. I wasn't sure what to expect. I had admired that building while passing many times, but hadn't been in to the previous restaurant, so I was excited to see what had moved in. But at the same time I tend to lean on the picky side, so I really wasn't sure what I would find in my food wheelhouse. My friend and I shared two plates, one from the "smaller" menu and one from the "larger" menu, and split each. I have to say, the food was amazing. Both dishes were phenomenal, super complex flavors. Sharing the two plates was enough food for both of us, we definitely didn't leave there hungry! We were in on a Thursday night and sat at the bar. The service was friendly and answered the questions we had about the food. Definitely looking forward to going back again soon! (We got the aloo gobhi chaat and the Sicilian pizza, which they switch up the toppings for daily)

Yelp
Overall take - really loved the vibes, the food and the service. It's a newer place that's already establishing a great brand. Will definitely go back. Food: I'm not a vegan but went with one and we both thoroughly enjoyed our food. We got the arancini, butternut squash gnocchi, aloo ghobi chaat, and kale Cesar salad. The dishes were fresh and delicious. I didn't see a big difference between the "small" and "large" plates in terms of volume, and the prices are very similar. We ordered two each for a full meal. Good wine and cocktail list. Atmosphere: Excellent. Low-light, neon and earthy. Feels like it'll be a new go-to for us. Can't seat a ton of people so it wasn't too loud, and the vinyl was a nice touch. Service: Really friendly but be prepared to wait. I was greeted the second I walked in the door. It was busy for a Wednesday night, but Pam was very accommodating.

Yelp
We really enjoyed the Tacu Tacu. Ancient legume cake topped with fresh veggies. The September heirloom tomato and kale salad needed something. More tomatoes and dressing, the kale was fresh but quite firm. Too full for dessert, next time.. Looking forward to going back.

Yelp
They have great wine, cocktail, and drink selections as well as a great and eclectic menu. I don't live by a vegan or vegetarian diet but this place is AWESOME. They're hummus plate is the best I have ever had. I'm a celiac and they had gluten free pita bread. We came for a snack and didn't order anything else but I'm excited to go back. Also the server we had was hands down the best server I've probably ever had. I think her name was Amy. She was chill, personable, and had excellent suggestions. I had just gotten back from a trip in Spain where restaurants were really into natural wines without sulfites, and Strange Town had the same wines! I was really impressed. they have typical wines but I think it's great that they also had organic and natural, sulfite free wines. Highly recommend. I plan to come back for the patio with my dog throughout the summer.

Yelp
I was waffling between 3 and 4 stars here. Overall, we had a good experience, but not all the dishes were winners. We started out with 2 italian sodas (one lavender, one lemon). The lavender was super good, the lemon was just ok. Next, we got the house pickles and the frijoles con queso. These were both the stars of the dinner. The pickles was quite a large serving of green beans, cauliflower, carrots, and red onions. We enjoyed these. The frijoles con queso was also delicious - creamy, smooth "queso" with beans and fresh pico, and fresh tortilla chips. After this, we got the October salad....I was a bit disappointed with this one. The salad was seasonal greens, fennel, apple, pepitas, and a vinagrette. Overall, I think the greens were just a bit too tough and bitter for me. Maybe if it was balanced with like 50% spinach I would have liked it more... Lastly, we got the fried tofu. Six tofu triangles were served on skewers, with a peanut dipping sauce on the side. The texture of the tofu was a bit dry, and not quite what I had expected. The dipping sauce was good, though. Overall, we started with some high notes and then leveled out. I would go back, but I would be a bit more careful about what items I chose to order next time!

Yelp
I really love strange town! Located conveniently on Prospect Avenue, this cute little restaurant/bar (formally "Alium") is 100% plant based and strives to carry & serve women owned products which in my opinion is delightful. They have a great bar with several stellar aperitifs & digestifs, along with nice wines and taps--last time I went in, they had a CBD kombucha on tap that was to die for. The service is impeccable and the space is very intimate. They spin vinyl as well which is neat. If I were you, I would definitely check this place out. You won't be disappointed!
