"Their motto here is ‘think global, eat local’ and this clear to see from the menu, where their homemade haggis sits alongside an array of ingredients from multiple Asian cuisines – be it furikake from Japan, tom yum from Thailand or lentil dahl from India. A pleasingly unfussy quality runs throughout these dishes, which are tasty and carefully prepared. The ground floor has a shabby-chic café-bar style, while The Cellar is a more intimate affair." - Michelin Inspector

"A Pint and a Curry at Stravaigin This West End spot is known for its haggis, but on my first night in Scotland, I wasn't quite up to that traditional savory pudding of sheep's pluck, oatmeal, onions, and spices encased in stomach lining and then stewed into submission. Instead, I ordered a pint of the local ale and the curry of the week, a mildly spicy vegetarian stew that was hearty, comforting, and the perfect beginning to my culinary adventures."

We had a reservation at Stravaigin last night for a business dinner during a work trip to Glasgow. One of our guests was travelling with their dog, and according to the website, dogs are welcome on the ground floor. Since there’s a quiet and comfortable area downstairs that seemed suitable for a business meal, we made our booking with a clear note stating that we’d be bringing a dog and that it was a business occasion. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we were told that our table had been booked upstairs—where dogs aren’t allowed. When we pointed this out, the staff checked and confirmed that our note had indeed been included in the reservation, but it had simply been overlooked. Mistakes happen, and we understand that. However, by the time we arrived, there were no free tables left in the quieter area on the ground floor. Instead of making an exception and allowing the dog upstairs in light of their own mistake, we were asked to wait and were eventually seated in the very loud pub area. It was far from suitable for a professional conversation. Sorry Stravaigin, but we communicated everything clearly in advance—both the business context and the presence of a dog. If that information is ignored, the customer shouldn't have to bear the consequences. A customer-focused solution would have been the right thing to do. Based on this experience, I can’t recommend Stravaigin for business dining or for situations that require flexibility or accountability.

Could not recommend highly enough! We booked the cellar for our wedding celebration and from the first contact, everything has been perfect! Jade was so lovely and helpful in helping us get everything sorted before it - nothing was too much trouble. On the day, Olivia got the room ready for us and it was perfect and ensured we had everything we needed all night. The food was incredible and all our guests loved it - everyone kept talking about the mussels!! But what made our night truly special was the staff! The service was absolutely brilliant! The cherry on the cake was the gigantic tiramisu for dessert which was amazing! We can’t wait to be back! Thank you again for everything 🩷

Google
Amazing food, we went there for a birthday celebration. The muscles were super fresh, great pork belly and probably the best haggis we've ever tried. Our server was super helpful in making our choices without being pushy for any item. I only have one thing to fault the restaurant, and it's that they didnt put on the menu that there was an added 10% service charge. We would have left a tip otherwise. However, really good experience overall.

We got caught in the rain during our visit of the Glasgow university buildings, and just picked a spot that was nearby. It turned out to be a very positive surprise as we came along this lovely Scottish restaurant. It was a bit crowded but luckily we got a table and enjoyed some amazing dishes and drinks. It is a bit more on the pricy side, however you get amazing dishes for your money and very attentive service.

Stravaigin truly delivers on its motto: “Think global, eat local.” The food was outstanding - creative, beautifully presented, and full of flavour. I was especially surprised by the attention to detail in even the simplest dishes. The green side dish, in particular, stood out - perfectly cooked and bursting with flavour. It’s rare to see such care put into every element of the meal.

Was googling for authetic scottish food, and Stravaigin was one of the few local restaurants highly recommended for its Haggis. And totally not disappointed. Was assigned a seat on the second floor, corner seating with cushions. I also love design in the restaurant. Mixed of industrial style and local flavour. The servers were attentive and gave good suggestions. The food is good and I enjoyed my dinner very much. And, Haggis with whisky cream is highly recommended.

Yet another fabulous meal. One of our favourite local eateries in Glasgow's West End. Food is always gorgeous, relaxed yet attentive service. Brilliant cocktails, nibbles and it's hard not to savour 3 courses ! Bravo Olivia and team xx Stravaigin is a beautiful gaelic word and means to wander without purpose. This easy-vibe bar & restaurant feels different to anywhere we've visited so far this year. It's definitely unpretentious, relaxed and attentive service feels natural and honest. It is a cool local hangout, well away from the centre of town (in the west end). The food is fabulous and they use local Scottish ingredients as well as those from further afield to achieve a great combination. You can just enjoy the bar where local friends sit on bar stools chatting about their day. Or you can dine in the shabby-chique pub with it's stripped down paintwork, raw ceilings and sanded back floors. I enjoyed a bloody Mary cocktail (with a perfect amount of heat because the bar girl asked how I enjoy my drink, "8/10 I declared "). I also ordered olives and nuts and both were more than ordinary. For main course the steak 🥩 was off the scale and the accompanying hash brown was a revelation. After a short intermission/ pause, while I chatted to locals on the adjacent table, I ordered a chocolate dessert from heaven and finished that off with a glass of dessert wine. This is a place where can easily feel at home. It's not like most restaurants recognised by the Michelin guide, basically it's a suburban pub with gastro food and it packs a huge punch. It's a perfectly simple combination, yet the food & service is slick and accomplished.

I have known about this place forever but have only tried it today. The service was great and the food was fantastic! Food ordered: Venison Rump Steak with Bone Marrow Smoked haddock Risotto Dark Choc and Orange cake Everything was absolutely amazing and i really cant wait to go again! Can't tell you enough how great it was, you really need to go and visit. Absolutely recommend!

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Stravaigin! The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed all the food we ordered, though the haggis, neeps, and mash tatties and the ox cheek with pea and basil risotto were our favorites! The risotto had one of those flavor profiles that will likely inspire me when I'm home, trying hopelessly to recreate it. If you order the haggis, don't skip the whiskey cream! It's delicious and pairs very nicely with the haggis, neeps, and tatties. The burger was also delicious. The presentation and flavor profiles of each dish were equally matched, so let the pictures entice you!

Yelp
We had such a good time here. We got very lucky to just walk in and get a table. Very cool and relaxed looking pub. You'd have no idea how amazing the food is. Really great options for gluten free, dairy free and vegetarians. They took very good care of us.

Yelp
We sat in the bar seating for a great dinner. It's an upscale casual atmosphere. The hostess and both waitresses serving us were welcoming and diligent. We enjoyed the burrata, cauliflower, haggis neeps and tatties, and beef curry. All of the food was incredible! A fun spin on traditional cuisine. The Negroni spritz was delicious! Highly recommend for a nicer dinner in Glasgow.

Yelp
My friend who's a chef recommended this spot. So good! Esp. the dessert. Waitresses were super kind. The basement is cozy.

Yelp
With a convenient location near the University of Glasgow and the Kelvingrove Museum, we sat outside on the sidewalk patio and had the most delicious meal of our two week trip to Scotland. We had the (1) sourdough with black onion seed tarka dahl, (2) Pig's head croquettes, (3) Tweed Valley lamb rump, peas, Highland crowdie and Roscoff onion, and (4) Grilled yellow courgette, haricot & lemon salsa, tomato agnolotti and ajo blanco for our shared meal plates. We thoroughly enjoyed every dish and could think of no suggestions for improvement. The courgette entree was the most exquisitely beautiful and delicious vegan dish I've ever had. I would most definitely order the courgette again. We discussed how we've eaten at fine restaurants all over the world and put this one up there on the list for satisfaction. We were full but because the food was so good, we ordered dessert, the salted caramel and chocolate mousse, muscovado sponge, miso fudge with malt ice-cream; it did not disappoint! Our server was equally lovely and gracious; she served us with a smile. When back in Glasgow, we will most definitely return to Stravaigin.

Yelp
Wow, this was an amazing meal -- it's been more than a month so I can't remember exactly what I had but all three courses I ordered were absolutely delicious. And it was probably the best value for the money meal I've had in my entire life -- the whole bill (for one person for three courses and a beer) came to something like 60 pounds. For this quality of food in the U.S., I'd expect to pay $100-$200 per person. And I definitely have never had food this good in the U.K.

Yelp
We had an amazing experience at Stravaigin! First time in Scotland with my husband and both sets of our parents--lots of different tastes to please, but Stravaigin exceeded expectations for everyone! I tried the vegetarian haggis. I was very apprehensive at first, but it was great. Everyone in the party tried the gnocchi, chicken, and pork belly as main courses, as well as the sea bass (I think), risotto, and soup appetizers and all were hits. Service was very friendly and accommodating of all of our questions/requests. Great atmosphere too--highly recommend if you are in Glasgow!

Yelp
The food was fantastic. Lovely restaurant. A little bit pricy but it's worth it. Will definitely go there again.

Yelp
I came here with some friends and ordered the regular Scottish which included eggs ,bacon, baked beans, sausage, square sausage, potato scone, mushrooms and finally the black pudding. The egg was cooked perfectly; the center was runny and the whites were well done. It was served on a bed of delicious baked beans. I was also a fan of the potato scone as it went really well with the meat on the plate. The square sausage had a little too much fat which I did not enjoy and the bacon was not as crispy as I would've liked it to be. I'd go back for the atmosphere as it was a little higher end compared to other restaurants. Service was also excellent. As for the food, I wasn't a big fan of the breakfast but would go back for the curry.

Yelp
Loooved this place so much! We literally have ZERO complaints. We were sat right away at a table with a street view. The waiters were super attentive but gave us our space too and everything from the drinks to the food was spectacular. We had the mushroom taco and the Nasi Goreng plate. SO MUCH FLAVOR For dessert we tried the chocolate cream and it was very rich in flavor also. I will for sure remember to come back here next time I'm in Glasgow.

Yelp
If you have the chance to sample Stravaigin on of their first Monday of the month Thali nights, do it! You'll get a selection of curries, fried bits, naan, rice and chutney on a big platter. It's probably the cheapest connection to India you can find from Scotland!

Yelp
This was a lovely Scottish gastropub. I had the Haggis, Neeps 'n Tatties as a starter. Really good size and it was absolutely delicious. I had a special as a main, a starter as well, scallops. My husband had the ox cheek as a starter, and pork tenderloins for a main (I think it was a tenderloin, it was not pork belly which is on the website menu).

Clare P.

Yelp
I've very much enjoyed the food and decor of Stravaigan previously, however on my most recent experience (11/11\22) our server, although attentive, swore twice when speaking with us (though I stress, he did not swear AT us). I ordered the haggis, neeps and tatties and was asked if I'd like a whisky/pepper sauce accompaniment, as this had not been mentioned on the menu. I was subsequently surprised and disappointed to see that this had rendered an additional charge of £2.50 on the bill (the charge for the accompaniment had not been mentioned on the menu or by the server). Otherwise, though, another enjoyable trip to this restaurant.

Yelp
I visited Stravaigin at the weekend fro the first time in what must be about 5 years. Why oh why did I leave it so long? It's a mystery. The good thing is that Stravaigin is still just as great as I remember. We showed up pretty late on a Saturday without a reservation so it was no surprise they didn't have a table available for our group of four but they promised to have one ready in half an hour which was cool. We returned after a quick drink around the corner and our table was indeed ready for us. Soon we were getting comfy and ordering drinks while perusing the menu. In the late evening they have a slightly different menu available - it's not the a la carte menu, I think it's called the Cafe Bar Evening menu. Fortunately it's just as full of delicious options as their main menu is. I ordered the Nasi Goreng, as did my mother. We both really, really enjoyed this dish and she said it was easily the best version she had. There was plenty of it too, we ended up taking away about half of it. My partner chose the sea trout and really enjoyed it while my father went for the fish supper and said that was good too. We weren't super hungry so we stuck to mains and had a couple of rounds of beers. I think it's important to mention that the bill only came to ~£60 for the four of us. Even though we didn't order tonnes of stuff I remember thinking that Stravaigin was quite expensive but this meal seemed to be a bit of a bargain. So, Stravaigin is very much still a firm favourite for me. I just need to remember to come here more often.

Yelp
Ate here for lunch. It was really good. I started with soup. It was very tasty. I was very happy that they had gluten free bread, it tasted great! I then had the scallop appetizer. The flavor was amazing. Overall the experience was great. I could not give it a 5 only because I did not have a main dish.

Yelp
I've been to Stravaigin a few more times since my last visit - for relaxing glasses of wine perched at the bar, for quick morning snacks and most recently for a leisurely lunch with Pammi G and Sharon M. I think one of my favourite things about Stravaigin (aside from the food and decor) are the staff - they are so warm and welcoming that you feel like you're visiting old friends. The guy who was looking after our table was a little off-the-wall but still super professional and a little entertaining. I got two starters rather than a big meal - the pork borek special as well as the potato rosti. We didn't have to wait long for food and there was lots of oohhhs and ahhhhs around the table - especially at the massive bowl of mussels that Sharon ordered that I seriously wanted to swipe. I loved the pork borek and thought it was just delicious. They really know how do well-balanced, flavoursome food here that takes you away to another place and time. I didn't love the potato rosti as much - it was mixed with seaweed but I think it ended up being a little too salty. No bother though, I was still in food heaven and Sharon even let me have some mussels. Stravaigin does what it does so well and still manages to be modern and interesting - I hope it never changes.

Yelp
5 stars for food, 4 stars for drinks for this one. It's many things, Stravagin. If you fancy a pint then there is a decent bar area, a chilled out meal can be had in the upstairs food area, and the downstairs restaurant is definitely somewhere to go if you want a fancy dinner. Let's take them in order. The bar area, while nice is a 4 star experience for me. The space on the right hand side of the door really benefits from the large windows, and creates a nice, light space. My issue is that it's a little wee, and it doesn't take much for it to get a little cramped. It's also not that cheap if you just want a couple of drinks. The seating area to the left feels to me more like an eating area than a drinking one. You can get a good, pretty reasonably priced meal here. It's a nice, relaxed place, and you can also get a space in the balcony if you want - it's a little bit more cramped, but there is something fun about sitting so high up. The best bit for me is the downstairs area. It feels properly fancy, and the staff, decor and menu really make you feel like you are somewhere special. Like all the food here, the menu is a good mix of Scottish ingredients cooked in international ways (their curries are worth a look), and this is done in a way that doesn't feel like a gimmick, There are always a couple of specials that are well worth investigating, and the prices are high-isa for Glasgow, but definitely feels worth it. The staff are friendly, and overall the decor feels nice and comfortable without looking too designery. If you're looking for a special meal then it should be high up your list, it's definitely a good bet for a fancier than usual casual meal, and a good but not amazing quiet pint. Overall, Stravagin is a great space in Glasgow, and is well worth a look.

Yelp
I ended my trip to Glasgow with a bang, I didn't think it could get better than the Chip! The Korean Fried Chicken was so flavorful and crispy. I enjoyed running pieces of it through the nutty sauce with my fork and getting bites of pickled daikon and Kim Chee with every bite. The sticky rice cakes were lightly battered, crunchy on outside and sticky on inside. This was outstanding. The chocolate stout cake with passion fruit sorbet was a perfect combo of rich cake with a light and tropical sorbet. So good. The food is made with care, with quality ingredients and beautiful presentation. This will be on my list, the next time I'm in Glasgow! Must try!

Yelp
Popped in with a friend for a drink today, as it was pouring down. The pub was packed as Gibson Gala 2016 was on and, as i said, it was raining, so many people had our same idea of getting a drink inside lol. The pub has two separated areas, one just to eat and the other one is a proper drinking area - we obviously stayed in this last one, and managed to get a wee sit and enjoyed our beer. Atmsphere inside was lively and decor is great, i really loved it! Music was on and place was buzzing, but it was still nice and cosy enough for a catch up and a chat - we could easily hear ourselves, not like in other few places i have been lately when i could barely hear my voice! I had a look at the food menu and there are few interesting plates, will surely come back to try their food!

Yelp
I've been waiting to come in here for a proper meal, but walking past and seeing the bar area changed my mind, and we popped in out of the rain for what we thought would be just a quick drink. The barman gave friendly, good service, and offered to let me try a lager that I didn't know, and said we were also welcome to find a seat upstairs. Upstairs we went, and we were greeted by other friendly staff along the way, and I was able to ask for a food menu, just to have an idea of what they might be serving next time. The menu looked so good. The specials of the day sounded equally amazing. I had eaten coq au vin at another restaurant only 2 hours before hand so wasn't hungry... but I had to try a starter. Goats cheese & lavender filo?? How can you say no to that? The waitress was amazing, and didn't think it strange at all that we already had drinks, and now wanted starters but no mains (maybe other people are lured into the menu in a similar way, maybe she was just gracious and lovely). I thought reveiws of restaurants are generally better after trying 2 or 3 courses, but I really want to review this casual experience to show how you don't have to wait for an evening to really go out for a meal (though I highly recommend that too). This is also bearing in mind that I went on a week day, at about 6pm, so it was busy, but the few spare tables scattered around meant that I didn't need a reservation. Anyway, back to the food: it was even better than described. The cheese was some of the best goats cheese that I've ever had, and it melted in my mouth with all the grace of perfectly balanced, subtle, lavender-infused aromas. My boyfriend also loved his dish (a pork special), and it was exceptionally good, but not as out-of-this world as mine. hehehehe. We had another couple of drinks to round off a quick, but-not-as-quick-as-planned stop, enjoying beautiful ambience and that pleasant, satisfied feeling that comes after eating perfectly crafted food and good drink. The interior has been designed with as much care as the menu, and the whole experience was flawless.

Yelp
Stravagin continues to be an old faithful, where the drinks are great, but the food is even better. This was an impromptu visit, turned up on a Saturday evening and asked for a table. It took an hour, but we weren't in any rush, gave us time to sample a couple of brews. Because it was a bit later on a Saturday, a number of the specials were already finished, which is understandable. The crab cake starter was really excellent. It came with a mango relish, which was amazing. Mains were really good too, but it was the dessert that really amazed me. Cranachan posset, was so good! If I was to be really critical, the staff weren't the usual personable style. I think they were very busy, but it would still be nice to have a bit more chat, perhaps a smile or two. Very small criticism. Overall it was a great meal.

Yelp
Hello Haggis. No Glasgow, that was not directed at your dear community manager Chris D, although I'm relishing in the fact that I'm clogging up his welcome page. Insert evil laugh here. And then apologies, and the promise of whisky. In fact, what I'm actually trying to say is that this was my first experience of haggis. Haggis?!? I hear you retort in shock. But you don't eat meat, Emma! No I don't. But what I did discover was the joy of vegetarian haggis, a delicious blend of lentils and peppery spices served with neeps and tatties, Scot sides which actually correspond with my favourite parts of a roast dinner, apart from the roasties that is. A combination of good wine, great company, fabulous food and and a warm, cosy atmosphere made Stravaigin a great introduction to Glasgow. I can't wait to sample some more traditional Scottish food!

Yelp
I decided to book somewhere for dinner after we attended the Yelp Scottish Event at Anta, and a Scottish restaurant seemed very appropriate. A quick search on Yelp showed me Stravaigin and I called to book. As it was a Thursday night it wasn't too busy so I could get a reservation even at short notice, plus easy on-street parking which saved my hair from the crazy Summer Snow we were having. I must have walked past this place hundreds of times but always just thought it was a bar. The restaurant is down stairs in the basement. The staff were overall fantastic, the hostess, waitresses, very friendly and helpful with selections. We did have to wait a little longer than I would have liked for the drinks, but it was a forgivable digression. The menu isn't extensive, but they cover all the meat and non meat bases. He went with the Venison special and I ordered the chicken, we got a side of potatoes too. We were both blown away by the food. It was an experience more than a meal. The chicken was pan fried and perfectly cooked. It came with parmesan gnocchi and asparagus (I asked them to hold the mushrooms). I'm not usually an asparagus fan, but I even enjoyed that. The favours were very intense, and everything paired beautifully. The potatoes were coated in mango and chilli. They were very interesting. I stayed on the fence during the meal as the whether I really liked them or not. Eating maybe 6 or so small ones was the ideal addition to my meal but I don't think I could have eaten many more of them. I had one small glass of wine which made for the perfect desert. When the glass was first brought over it left quite a tart after taste, but I left it standing during my meal, and once I was done and the wine had aired it was truly exquisite. I'm looking into getting more to have at home! Two meals, 1 side, 1 whisky, 1 wine, 1 soft drink and 1 bottle of water came to £50. I think that is incredible reasonable for the quality of the food. We will definitely be going back for seconds!

Yelp
This might only be my third review but I've got to start with all the places I love best in glasgow and Stravaigin proudly sits up in my top three. This cosy, restaurant/bar is spread over 3 floors and I've been here a few times for brunch and for evening meals. My first visit was just before Christmas when myself and the bf agreed to a 'christmas date night' where we sampled their festive menu. at £32 for 3 courses, for some this might seem a little expensive but as students (who have not yet grasped budgeting when it comes to food) we didn't think twice at having a nice meal together before we parted ways for the christmas holidays. Stravaigin prides itself on being a great Scottish restaurant, sourcing local produce, so expect to see excellent usage of local ingredients, seafood and Scottish classics such as haggis and whisky featured on the menu. So onto our festive meal: firstly we're the type of super cringey couples you see swapping dishes half way through the meal, as we have similar taste so that way we get to try double the amount of dishes...and everyones a winner. After sampling salmon, slow braised ox cheek, pheasant.. and of course at christmas - turkey, my winning vote goes to the hot smoked salmon, because the combination of that smokiness, goats cheese, and beetroot is just divine and something, amazingly, i'd never had before. as my sweet teeth (more than just one sweet tooth) actually make up the majority of my mouth, dessert is a vital component to the end of my meal - bad desert = meal ruined, and the desert did not disappoint the chestnut and chocolate tort was rich but the chestnut sorbet cut through the richness finishing my meal off beautifully and I even had room to squeeze in a few of the boyf's cheese and oatcakes. the staff are delightful, attentive but not too much, and can advise you on the sourcing and style of every dish. couldn't have asked for a more lovely christmas meal, and look forward to going back soon - not valentines day though (TOO CRINGE)

Yelp
I'd long been aware of Stravaigin's iconic status as a Glasgow fine-dining foodie paradise. Perversely that knowledge had kept me away whilst I mentally saved it for a notional special occasion that never came. When recently it was explained that a large part of Stravaigin is actually devoted to informal dining or just having a nice wee drink at the bar, I made a bee-line for the place. Even at 12 noon on a damp saturday the place was heaving. Lucky for us we got one of the last tables available on the balcony. The low ceiling upstairs was a bit of a squeeze for the tall guy, but we were cock-a-hoop that they fit us in. The menu was well balanced and inclusive with plenty to keep carnivores, vegetarians and vegans happy. Our group opted for the fish & chips, chicken curry and a vegetarian vindaloo (that was me). Every dish came nicely presented, and the food was perfectly prepared, piping hot and packed full of flavour. I love spicy food but was a bit nervous about trying a vindaloo until it was explained that it was flavourful rather than stupidly spicy. Service came with a smile and the waiteress was fully clued up on the menu. We appreciated her advice and were guided by it. The vegetarian options were a revelation. Would that more restaurants had that much variety for us non meat-eaters. That said, Glasgow is getting so much better for veggies these days. I would highly recommend Stravaigin, but hey don't be silly like me; its not just for high-days and holidays:)

Yelp
We have family visiting from out of town, so it was the perfect chance to give Stravaigin a try. We didn't make a booking but lucked out and got a table in the bar area. I had a cocktail with cucumber and elderflower that was lovely; tasty but not too sweet. Our guest had a Manhattan and seemed to enjoy it as well. On to the food: I ordered a special, which was chicken, roasted potatoes, sauteed greens with mushrooms and a port reduction sauce. Everything was cooked perfectly and all the flavours complemented each other nicely. My companion and our guest, both vegetarian, opted to share several of the small plates between them. I took pictures, but there was a goat cheese in filo starter, a potato rosti with seaweed and hazelnut sauce starter, then three small plates - something Indian with lentils and a rice cake, gnocchi, and veggie haggis. They also ordered a paratha (flat bread) on the side. They said the gnocchi and the Indian dish were the favourites. The pace of the meal was just right; we didn't feel rushed, but the times between courses was comfortable. The service was great and our waitress was really helpful in accommodating my request for gluten-free options, and my companions' requests for vegetarian options. The prices were a little high, but this is not your usual bar food, so I think it's fair for the quality you're getting. I'd go back!

Yelp
Popped in for lunch today and I wasn't disappointed. We opted for the cafe bar menu as it offers more choice and seems more reasonably priced. I love Stravaigin's interior - it's slightly shabby and has lots of interesting things to look at. To start we shared the big portion of mussels. It was a substantial portion - perfect for a shared starter or a main course. While the mussels weren't the biggest I've ever had the sauce they came in was one of the best. It was a Thai-inspired coconut curry sauce which complimented the mussels perfectly and the fresh bread that accompanied the dish soaked it up nicely. To follow I had the wee portion of haggis, neeps and tatties - it was the ideal size as I was feeling pretty full from the starter. The haggis was nice and spicy although the potato was slightly bland - the only criticism I could make. The bill came to just under £25 which is pretty good value, particularly for the West End. I would definitely return in the future.

Yelp
You hates a place that has some great lager and beers on tap Warm, comfortable and a great atmosphere each time I've been here Last time it was on the chilli cook off and I had too many drinks to remember much of that day however I remember vividly being content and happy to stop in here San Mig £4.15 which to be fair is cheaper than some places for this tasty beverage that reminds me of holidays in Spain and sitting in the warm summer evenings watching the sun go down Can't comment on their food, always been too drunk to remember ..... That way a kebab eaten from the pavement tastes great

Yelp
Is this bar which happens to do excellent food, or a restaurant with a sizeable bar attached? Either way I've never had a bad meal. Eat Global is the theme and there is a wide selection of dishes from around the world. The Nasi Goreng and curries are excellent. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Stravaigin is one of the "posh" restaurants in the West End that isn't actually that posh or expensive but does offer a "cut above" in terms of food quality, variety and service. I've been here several times and you can choose to sit in the bar area on the ground and mezzanine floors or you can reserve a table for their underground restaurant area. The food is a little fancier downstairs but they will let you order from the bar menu if it's not to your taste! Prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity too, they have a decent selection of craft beers and even one cask beer (usually Deuchars IPA). And the best thing? It's dog friendly (in the bar)!

Yelp
Perfect Sunday-funday of relaxing... Stravaigin has become our go-to for Sunday Brunch. Although you must be careful wandering in as it's a very popular destination for locals, its worth the wait. Old Brunch standards like Eggs Benedict get an interesting twist with chili in the hollandaise (occasionally they can get hollandaise-happy and pour the stuff on!), and more unusual dishes like the spicy Nasi Goreng are definitely worth trying out! While all the atmosphere is upstairs in the main bar and upper mezzanine level, you can still enjoy a tasty dish in the downstairs restaurant. Overall highly recommended.

Yelp
Hadn't eaten here for a few years but nothing's changed so once again an enjoyable experience. The first time in quite a while too that a menu's main dishes caused me to dither over choosing, such was the number of interesting options. Opted for a frittata starter that seemed to contain far more than was possible in terms of flavours, Korean ox cheeks with a good spicy kim-chi for the main (the meat was very well cooked but oddly lacked much flavour) and the three cheese option for afters, which could have done with an extra biscuit or two. Not sure about the cooked breakfast being artfully presented on a long plate & a single sausage just makes that sort of thing look skimpy. Consistently good service throughout the visit though so still a very safe bet if you want well fed around this part of the city.

Yelp
We popped in on a Friday morning for brunch, we were happy to see a good range of breakfast / brunch options as close by places such as the Richmond only do these on Saturday and Sunday. As the weather is currently scorching, the bar and restaurant had their doors and windows open and inside was lovely and cool. I ordered the French toast, which was a very generous portion and delicious. The husband had the Scottish breakfast. We both had coffees, I personally think they serve excellent coffee, but the glass cup they serve it in is very small - hence the four stars as we needed to order another each to feel like we actually had any coffee to drink.

Yelp
Having wanted to try Stravaigin for literally years, finally an opportunity presented itself, as I was attending a gig at GUU. I booked a table in the mezzanine area. The menu was underwhelming, but opted for the Korean chicken thighs. It was a little light on portion size at first glance but reasonably tasty. I had asked for kimchi on the side but instead they brought it on the dish and with an extra bowl of it. Service was pretty lacklustre, though the guy who seated me was very friendly - pity he didn't serve us. Of their cheeseboard selections, only one was suitable for pregnant ladies, one of whom was my companion, so we didn't hang around for that. Just a little bit mediocre after I'd heard such great things about it.

Yelp
Very warm decor. Loved the fairy lights, the balcony was a great view of the whole restaurant and it felt very inviting. The food was perfectly proportioned and delicious. The only reason I give 4 stars was the waitstaff, though friendly and knowledgeable, was not as attentive as I would have hoped. Other than that I would highly recommend!

Yelp
Face lift ahoy! For those who ain't been to the Strav in a while, your in for a bit of a shock/treat. A massive change in both exterior/interior has been undertaken resulting in a great new venue that has a very Scottish coastal feel, warm, cosy and very inviting. Dragged a very cold looking American friend in here for some belly filler afore a wee sesh in The Belle. So... the scoop- - Grub was excellent as expected. Plonked for Thai Chicken Curry, which was both spicy and fully bodied in flavour... a real winner for me. The Chilly one had the Fish and Chips, which as well, was very fresh and came with fresh tartare and enough chips to appease most potato-aholics out there. -Service, if i'm being entirely honest, was a little on the off side, but not in a way that spoiled the meal, just a few things... had to ask for menus, forgot to bring over sauces when asked... nothing major. So yeah, new Stravaigin, same old great quality grub... nice one!

Yelp
Glasgow was bitterly cold last Thursday night. My nose was visibly dripping as I pounded the streets, face contorting against the cold winds, fists clenched and cheeks frosted pink. How far away was this restaurant anyway? Why were we walking? Could we not just stop at one of these other places- fill up, get out and leave? Bad weather + hunger x sore feet = Grumpy Evey! Within seconds of walking through the doors of Stravaigin all was forgiven. A warm blast of hot air shifted the expression on my face into a smile. The music was folky and upbeat and the barman warmly shuffled towards us with a concerned look on his face, encouraging us in from the cold. He swiftly brought us three gin and tonic's before leaving us to flick through the menu at our own pace. Service 5/5. We opted for the bar menu at Stravaign- although I'd heard great things about the posher dining room downstairs, relaxed, informal bar dining was exactly what we wanted. The menu here is constantly changing to reflect seasonal goodies which, luckily for us brought treats of lamb with wild mushrooms, spiced venison burger and partridge with rabbit stew. I could have eaten my lamb with a spoon it was so tender and succulent. My brother's girlfriend was kind enough to offer me one of the giant onion rings which accompanied her burger. McDonalds- I think not! Sweet onion, crunchy batter, delicious! For anyone looking for a real glimpse of proper Scottish cooking at its best, this place is a must! Food 5/5. Clearly, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The prices are spot on for such high quality. The atmosphere is perfect, busy but relaxing, 5/5. Make sure you add this place to your list of must see's!

Yelp
Best gastro pub in Glasgow and the best I've ever been to so by that logic I can safely say it is the best gastro pub in the multiverse. Delicious takes on Scottish classics, a baller booze selection and an atmosphere that will always make you feel welcome. It ain't super cheap but it's super worth it.

Yelp
Tonight, in celebration of moving to Glasgow, moving to the West End and generally celebrating the 'joie de vivre' I found myself exploring my new surroundings, tramping around the streets and looking for somewhere inviting to eat and pass the time... What better and more appropriate place then, than Stravaigin - which I'm sure you're aware means something like 'wander aimlessly' as has been pointed out before - a restaurant I'd previously read good things about and had intended to hunt down ASAP. It did not disappoint, I'm happy to report. A welcoming, warmly lit bar and smiling waitress ushering me into a cozy corner booth with plenty of space to spread the paper out ensured I immediately got that 'warm and fuzzy feeling' of being a welcome customer, and not just another punter that needed feeding and parted with their money as quickly as possible to make room for the next. So far, so very good... I didn't even need the menu and promptly ordered the haggis, neeps and tatties (award winning, so I've read) and a pint. Though I did keep the menu and after a quick read chided myself for not giving it more attention as there were quite a few inventive and lovely sounding dishes on offer... I'll know for next time! Now I'm no expert on haggis, but if spicy, moist and damn tasty with a nice texture make a 'good one' then this was it! The portions not being huge I couldn't resist the sound of 'Banana and peanut turnover with peanut butter ice-cream' for dessert. NOM! So maybe it was clever portion control rather than stingy portions, and if so then hats off and fair play. You can't fault the logic in that can you? Overall I was very impressed with the quality of the food but thought the portions perhaps a bit meagre for the price. Excellent decor throughout, a lovely vibe and attentive yet not overbearing service make this an easy 4-star rating for me; I'm sure I'll be wandering in that direction again before long for a second Yelping... (Look ma, I made a funny!)

Yelp
I normally implement a personal rule to pass on restaurants with names I can't pronounce. Straw-Vague-in? Struh-Va-gin? Str-Avai-gine? Bah! Lucky after a meal at this place (that will remain unpronounced) it can decidedly be renamed YUM. Sitting around a table of foodies, I was able to sample everything from venison to haggis, steamed mussels, Vietnamese rare beef and of course the quintessential mashed neeps and champit tatties. We were tucked nicely down in a cosy dining room below a lively fire-placed pub and it felt like our own sultry foodie feast. Apparently Scottish food, while completely unpronounceable, is utterly delicious! p.s. I've learned that to 'stravaig' is a verb in old Scots meaning 'to roam, wander idly, gad about in an aimless manner.' I can easily see myself idly wandering here. Often.

Yelp
As a general rule, I much prefer dinning out midweek than the weekend. I blame Anthony Bordain, ever since reading his book Kitchen Confidential it just seems more logical. The chefs have more time, the restaurants are quieter, staff are less rushed, the food is fresher and the prices tend to be cheaper. Ergo a much better experience. This particular wet Tuesday autumnal evening was much like any other, expect that it was my birthday. And I could think of no better place I'd like to celebrate my 32nd year on the planet than Glasgow favourite, Stravaigin. This West End eatery takes it's name from the old Scots word 'Stravaig' (meaning to wander aimlessly) and that ethos is reflected in their cooking style, taking the best Scottish produce and giving it an international twist. Dishes such as Thai spiced pork belly and hake with red pepper and chorizo sausage are great examples of taking the best of fresh local ingredients and giving them a continental flare. Stravaigin's relaxed style offers dining upstairs as well as down. I personally prefer the cosy, candle lit ambience of downstairs, especially on a wet September evening. The menu is however the same, wherever you choose to sit. The only trouble with said menu is making your mind up, such is the quality and variety of choice. While you deliberate, fresh bread and dip is served, tonight's offering of Berlotti bean and tomato is particularly appetising. Staples like Steamed West coast mussels with sweet chilli and coriander broth, haggis, neeps and tatties are joined by daily/weekly specials such as pan fried pigeon breast. Tonight I opted for a special of Mull cheddar and polenta cakes, which was served in a sweetcorn and chilli veloute. The main course is an even more difficult choice, the Scottish seafood in Bloody Mary broth closely pipping the 'curry of the moment'. A smorgasbord of treats from Scottish waters including crab, clams, mussels and salmon, served up in a tasty tomatoey broth. This is washed down nicely by a crisp, slightly creamy Garganega, selected from the uncluttered, unpretentious wine list. I'm not much of a pudding man but even I am powerless to resist the salted caramel and chocolate tart, served with amaretto ice-cream and honeycomb. This calorie laden treat is to die for! Once again this multi AA rosette winning restaurant is right on the money, consistently delivering wonderful food in great surroundings.

Yelp
Wow. Having spent two weeks in the Scottish Highlands eating overcooked burgers, potatoes, wilted lettuce and pudding, I'll admit my palette was ready for something ... half-decent. But Stravaigan was truly exceptional, as good as any gastropub (a misnomer, really - this place is anything but a pub) in Brooklyn or PDX or certainly San Francisco. The vibe is calm and cool - seems like this is a place local food service people eat after work, which is a good sign ... and the wait staff were attentive and smart without doting. They didn't flatter or linger, but were friendly and efficient - a nice touch. We had, at different rounds, an amazing beetroot tart with pickled veggies and cream; traditional haggis with sweet potatoes and nips (turnips, apparently); stuffed pork belly that was perfectly tender; and a round of desserts that were creative and yet somehow still Scottish. I know the UK gets a pretty bad rap for its food, and London perhaps deservedly so - but come north, laddies, for Glasgow may be leading the charge toward real food - if they gain independence the race will really be on!

Yelp
Damn you Glasgow, you do fine dining well and there wasn't a fried bars bar in sight! I came here with a huge group of people and even though the service was a little slow, it was friendly and efficient. Now to the food! A mighty meaty feast for all. You can get gout just by reading the menu. I went for their special of a Thali and there was more food that I could squeeze into my slowly widening body. Highly recommended!

Yelp
My recent visit to Stravaigin just made it clear to me that they are retaining their place as one of the better restaurants in Glasgow. The location in the West End is perhaps a bit off as a tourist but seeing that Glasgow is not huge it is still easy to get here. The upstairs is the pub part and downstairs is the restaurant - I do prefer upstairs but not sure if it is possible to reserve there. When arriving we were promptly given attention and taken to our table. The place was very full, not surprising since it was a Saturday night. The full restaurant did however mean lack of service, we had to wait 15 minutes to place our order for food and drinks. That is a bit much but it must be said that the waitress noted that she forgot to come by and take orders so after that initial slip up she was very attentive. Stravaigin has a good selection of both beer and wine and the prices are, at least coming from London, very reasonable. We started of with a cava that was very nice and it was only £6.95 for 2 glasses so a great deal. Wines were mostly around £4 a glass (some slightly less and some slightly more) and the selection was good. Food-wise the menu offers some Scottish classics such as Haggis, Haddock but also mixes Asian influences and food from around the globe. We started off sharing an excellent empaneda that was served with some nice guacamole and some onion and salad. A perfect little snack to start with. For the mains we went for slightly different things - I am sucker for a good beef brisket chili and the one at Stravaigin ranks among the really good ones. It is also large enough to share so in retrospect we would have been fine splitting that. The other main was the duck wings with a nice and fresh rhubarb and walnut salad. The rhubarb really matched the ducks in an excellent way but I would still if I return want the chili again as it was just so good. When it came time for dessert we were actually already too full but we could just not stop ourselves from ordering the peanut and banana baklava. It came with a salted caramel popcorn ice cream and sesame popcorn. There was actually a bit too many flavors mixed so I would have preferred perhaps making it a bit more simple. The ice cream was great on its own but the baklava did not really work with both the peanut and banana so would have preferred perhaps just the banana. Still a good dessert though and we left happy after the feast. The damage was not at all bad either since we shared starter and dessert (and we were still more than full).

Yelp
The restaurant downstairs is our go-to venue to celebrate special occasions. The inventive menu always offers a few surprises, often employing weird and wonderful combos to good effect. Great atmosphere, always busy and lively, but the small size keeps it feeling cosy and intimate. The bar upstairs is also great if you're looking for something new to enjoy - though be prepared to pay proper West End prices to do so. Eating upstairs isn't so pleasant, with tables very close together, with weekend brunches particularly popular with large groups which can make it a bit of a squeeze. Dogs are also welcome in the bar, a real negative point for me when it's somewhere I'm going to be eating. Great staff, always feel spoilt coming here. Would love to come more often if budget allowed!

Yelp
Sorry to be a killjoy but I did not think this place was worth all the raves. I appreciated the creativity of the menu, and despite the tables being extremely close together, the atmosphere was really excellent and that's not something that can be manufactured. A restaurant either is a convivial meeting space or it isn't. Stravaigin is--it's got a sense of humor and they absolutely nailed the lighting, which I am very fussy about. But the food...while they get points for creativity, they lose those same points on execution. To be fair, the fig &etc pissaladiere and the duck liver parfait were lovely. Light and tasty with an delightful combination of textures and flavors that melted in your mouth. But the entrees did not live up to their descriptions. The mussels were very fresh and tasty on their own, but the broth tasted like someone had dissolved a beef stock cube in water. It was a brutal monotonous assault on my palate. The guinea fowl dish tasted like someone had dumped a heaving cup of sea salt all over it, and under all that salt the flavors themselves were laboriously heavy, with none of the light whimsy that touched the appetisers. I might have still given it four stars, because the appetisers were so promising and suggested that there were good mains to be had, but then the service was abysmal. Our waiter repeatedly stood in the door, did a survey of his tables, and then turned tail and ran away into the kitchen. I saw him clock our dirty plates and glasses several times but always failed to come clear them. We were there for our anniversary and had been all geared up for the whole shebang with desserts and whiskeys and the like, but as we had languished for twenty minutes in front of our dirty plates and empty glasses, by the time our waiter finally deigned to stop by our table again we were ready to go.

Yelp
First time in here properly last night (no, I'm not sure how either) and it was a delight. Only for a few drinks mind, but I was very impressed with both the decor and bar staff; the bar itself was eclectic and made choosing a drink less than straightforward (a good thing!). Good vibes all round with good people, and having the option to open the windows to face out on Gibson Street when it's warm is a treat. All the perks of being outside, without being outside. Nice one. Would love to go back for food. So I will.

Yelp
Glasgow and Michelin is not something that goes hand in hand but one saving grace is Stravaigin which has been awarded a Bib Gourmand for the last 2 years. On top of the Bib Gourmand, Stravaigin also has two AA Rosettes. Stravaigin in Gaelic means "to wander" and this shines through in the restaurants "think global, eat local" adage. The restaurant serves mainly Scottish food but with the occasional ethnic twist in some of the dishes. Living less than 400 meters from Stravaigin for the last few years we really should have visited by now, I can't give you a reason why but for some reason we still hadn't visited. Finally after 2 years of waiting we were heading to Stravaigin for a lunch we had been looking forward to for a very long time. On arrival we were instantly struck at how large the space was inside. To the right there was a bar area with some tables for eating, to the left another space with tables and a nice area upstairs with more space for diners and at night time dinner can be served down stairs. The décor was authentic and provided a cosy atmosphere for either a drink or a good meal. Lunch looked fantastic value at £12.95 for 2 courses and £15.95 for 3 courses. We started with the king prawns theyk were a good size, very juicy and packed full of flavour. The poppy seed and olive oil bread was something we hadn't tried but both of us thought it was very good and not to stodgy. The second starter was a Baozi, now a Baozi was something neither of us had tried or heard of, but it's certainly something we would go for again. The ox cheek was beautiful and tender and perfectly seasoned, it melted in the mouth with every bite. The chili sauce gave a devilish kick without wasting the other flavours. You can't beat a fish super from the chippy? At Stravaigin you certainly can! A LARGE portion of beautifully cooked fish in a light beer batter, beautiful chunky chips and a stunning tartar sauce rounded off a great fish super perfectly. A great main course we thoroughly enjoyed. Being to full we shared Anzac cookie with ice cream which was stunning a great end to the meal. Overall we really enjoyed our lunch, each course displayed a good level of cooking skill and we were more than full afterwards. Our only complaint was waiting close to half an hour for our shared desert but apart from that staff were friendly and efficient and we could find no faults. After waiting so long to try out Stravaigin, we were certainly more than satisfied with our meal and we will definitely be back one evening to try the full menu down stairs. Which offers the finest cooking Stravaigin has to offer, at under £30 for all the food we had felt this was really good value. With a vast array of competition in the West end of Glasgow, Stravaigin easily holds it's own and for us is one of the best Restaurants in the whole of Glasgow (and this is our opinion after one sunny lunch).

Yelp
Located next to the Kelvin (the other river of Glasgow) on Gibson Street, Stravaigins served as the site of my wedding reception. The restaurant staff met with us and discussed menus and number of attendees. On our wedding day, the wedding party and guests wandered from the beautiful Park Circus marriage suites through Kelvingrove Park to Stravaigins and a wonderfully decorated downstairs dining area. The food was excellent and an area had been set aside for the wedding party and the cake. The staff was wonderful and handled everything beautifully. It made it possible for us to get married at a time when we could not afford a large reception. My wife and I will always be grateful to them for this.
