Women Who Travel Podcast: Moving to Paris for a Life in Food
"French markets in Paris are known for their artisanal produce. Jane Bertch emphasizes the importance of engaging with the vendors to learn about the produce and how to best use it. This interaction enhances the shopping experience and provides insight into the French way of appreciating and preparing food."
"The Marché d'Aligre is one of the capital's most popular markets. No matter how many times you visit, you'll be impressed by its liveliness, drawn in by its eclecticism and enraptured by the variety." - The MICHELIN Guide
My favourite place in Paris, I go every Sunday. The atmosphere is friendly, prices are low and there’s many places around to grab a bite or a drink. It’s a must go ! 🍆🍅🥬🍇

There’s a cool second hand book stand next to the clock tower in the middle. I recommend that place, when I was there it was 5€ for 2 books and I found some very good ones. Price is really good and the atmosphere is nice.
Working hours changes from weekday to weekend but generally between 7.30 and 1.30. Try to come early to find better things. There’s also fresh bio (organic) food in the market.

A properly authentic street market. Well worth a visit for anyone wanting to experience the everyday Paris.

You have to make sure they’re open before going otherwise you’ll miss it, like we did. Despite that, it’s a good area to walk around and explore.

Came across this place by accident and had a lot of fun. Bought a necklace for someone back at home.

A bustling open-air market with an impressively colourful range of products, from vegetables, fruits, and flowers to exotic spices, cheeses, and wines. Prices were also especially friendly, and as turnaround is fast, one may expect products to be a lot fresher here.

The street market is great for fruit and veg, some good prices and fresh produce (or reduced priced produce that is not at its best). In the square there is an antiques market where you can find all sorts of things. Worth checking out!

A large open air market, the vendors have great fresh produce or deli of different qualities and price points. The covered section hosts butcheries, cheese, wine and beer shops. It is also possible to eat there and around it there are great bars for quick drinks. On the square there is also an antique/second hand market.
When I visited there was also great music from a local brass band.

Great market. But there is not a place to sit to enjoy the produce you purchase there. It's more like an open air grocery store than like a family friendly farmers market like we have in the US.

This is a market stand for 100% bio/organic fruits and vegetables in the Marche d'Aligre near Bastille. It is one of 2 regular bio stands at the market, but you have to check them both because the product availability varies from week to week. I go to the market on Sundays but they are open on other days as well - but I am not sure what days this particular stand is around besides Sunday. They have a deal for paniers (baskets) that is something like 10 euros for 4 kilos of assorted produce. Check it out - definitely a good bargain for organic products. It's best to go early to have a good choice, but late market goers can have some last-minute deals...
