"Streetcar 82 Brewing Co. in Hyattsville opened a month ago, and it’s the East Coast’s first fully deaf-owned and -operated brewery, according to DCist. 'We want to be a brewery where the community all come together and interact,' co-founder Mark Burke told DCist, 'whether they are deaf or hearing.'" - Adele Chapin

Wanted a beer from a local brewery The place has plenty outside seating We got a pizza from the food truck of the day.

Stopped by after a huge rain storm and it was fairly empty. I had the Bees Knees and my husband had the It’s Five O’clock. Both were delicious. Highly recommend. There was a hamburger food truck (Eat Well MD by I.M.) parked in the lot. We ordered the Old Bay fries and it was a bit pricey. Still waiting on them now but I’m sure they’ll be good. If not, I’ll update. Edit- they were good :)

Big kudos to the staff here for being so great. My friends and I showed up like 30 minutes before close but the employees were kind enough to let us sample a few beers and once we made our selection they didn't rush us to finish up and get out (not that we lollygagged or anything). The beers were really good, my friends especially enjoyed the sours. Definitely glad we stopped by!

Streetcar 82 Brewing is a Hyattsville gem! Streetcar is a Deaf owned business and provides an inclusive environment for all communities. You don't have to know ASL (American Sign Language) to order because they have a menu on the counter you can point to, but it also doesn't hurt to try to learn some signs or even your alphabet! They have a small tasting room that can seat up to about 8 people, and plenty of tables outside. Some covered and some uncovered. The beers are VERY good! Probably one of the best I've had in the area. My favorite is the Desert Camp, a fruited sour with sweet prickly pear and tart blood orange. It's so light and refreshing! Perfect for hot summers. They also have a great blueberry hard seltzer that is nice and flavorful but sweet! They have some really distinct and complex flavors which I appreciate. Service is always excellent. Prices are reasonable. They have their own lot, but when they're busy - you may have to drive around and find parking on the street. It's tricky because there are a lot of residential streets you cannot park on. So carpool if you can!

Mark and Courtney were amazing to work with to plan my husband’s 40th birthday party. They helped me put up a birthday banner and let us a reserve a table for the party. We couldn’t have picked a better place to celebrate his day. Mark and Courtney - thank you so much for making the party so special.

This deaf-owned brewery is one of my FAVOURITE places in Hyattsville! The servers are so lovely and I’ve really enjoyed each of the rotating food trucks. Love it!

Google
What a hidden gem! This microbrewery features craft beer that wakes up your palette and pleases the soul. Dog friendly, communal seating inside and out, located on Rte 1 in Hyattsville next to the courthouse, you'll miss it if you're going too fast. While they don't serve food, you can stop by many eating establishments in the area or order food delivery to complement the beer selections. The staff, positively lovely and members of the deaf community, are attentive and knowledgeable about their drink offerings. Ask for a taster if not sure about a selection. But try it all! The sour cranberries/cherry beer I had was crisp, fruit forward, smooth yet not sweet, but with a gorgeous tart pucker. We will definitely be going back!

Google
Didn't have enough time to truly appreciate this place. But the outdoor patio was amazing. I can imagine being here at night must be great. We were only able to get one drink each. But I tried a really solid saison.

Yelp
We biked out here on a beautiful day and the bike trail goes all the way here, very accessible! Cute spot with lots of outdoor seating. Deaf owned and operated. Really good beer! Super friendly staff. And they have rotating food trucks!

Yelp
(3.75) ~ Good Overall Beer ** Oats My Ride (Oatmeal Stout) = (4) very good * Celebrate (New Zealand Pilsner) = (3.5) good

Kerri C.

Yelp
This was our first time visiting, and we'll definitely return. We loved that there was outdoor seating so we could come with our pup! We tried three beers; the campfire, a white ale that we are forgetting the name of (farmhouse something?) and berry picker. The campfire was awesome- it had caramel notes, perfect for a slightly chilly fall day. The farmhouse was delicious and perfect with our burger. The berry picker was the disappointment. It didn't really taste like anything and definitely wasn't sour. Maybe there was something wrong with that batch? Side note- they don't sell food, but they had a food truck and they support bringing food from the neighboring Pizzeria Paradiso!

Brandy S.

Yelp
This spot was at the top of my list to visit this fall and I'm so glad we made it! This small brewing spot is definitely a must-visit group hangout spot if you enjoy IPAs, a chill vibe, and AMAZING people! We enjoyed a flight of brews, and my favorite was Batch 82.

Mariana M.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this brewery and were so excited about the find! It is deaf-owned, has excellent beers and has impeccable service. The ambiance is unassuming - the seating is all within the brewing area, but they do have outside seats as well

Frankie L.

Yelp
This is a great local spot to visit if taking a stroll through Hyattsville. You can order in American Sign Language. The staff is friendly and quick. We ordered the acai beer. It was very sour and heavy on flavor. They offer outdoor seating with shaded patio benches. It was a relaxing experience.

Sarah B.

Yelp
Great brewery with a rotating selection of IPAs and sours - the menu has a section for what's coming up next. Deaf-owned and operated, it's one of my favorite places to come in the fall/spring or whenever the weather is nice, as most of it is outdoor seating (some indoor too!). No food, but they often have food trucks and you can always bring pizza from Pizzeria Paradiso down the street.

Sienne R.

Yelp
Great ambience, food truck was amazing, and the beers were really great!! Service was also great! Would definitely come here again!!! Love it!

Erica M.

Yelp
Great service and ambiance. Dog friendly too, the kid bartender personally brought out a water bowl for my pup and the owner or manager (not sure) stopped by to talk to us and made us feel very welcomed.

Jason S.

Yelp
Great spot. We met the owners/brewers, super nice. We will definitely be going back. The beer was great.

Yelp
I came here on my way to the airport as a quick stop. 1) I didn't realize it was deaf owned/operated which I loved (just wish they had a sign alerting people of that). 2) great indoor/outdoor seating options. 3) there was a pizza pop up outside (also deaf owned/operated) that i got a quick bite at - recommend that! 4) good beer options - i got the Rose - Merry which I definitely recommend. 10/10 recommend this place

Morgan D.

Yelp
Here in town for a concert and stopped by there earlier in the afternoon. It is a really nice outdoor space. Not many beers for my personal taste but lots to choose from for those with a wider palate! I would definitely come here again if in the area!

Kenneth K.

Yelp
My now wife and I first came here back in December 2019 when exploring the neighborhood and as both people with disabilities, we love the fact that this brewery is deaf owned and operated. The staff is all deaf and signs but will write out to you if you do not sign. Our first time they had their holiday sweater party. It was also some of the best beer we have had. We came during summer of 2020, when they were the first in the region to release Black is Beautiful (probably the largest beer collab in history to support Black Lives Matter). We also had them deliver crowlers and a glass to our apartment in Silver Spring when they did delivery and came back to try a flight tonight with our best man from our wedding who loved the fact it was named after a historic streetcar line to try a flight, and our favorite which be brought a crowler home of was It's Five O'Clock, a margarita gose. Since the pandemic they have moved the seating outside and you can bring your own food or order something there and tonight they had a Mihoacan taco truck with perhaps best fish (salmon) tacos we've ever had. We even made new friends at our table.

Yelp
Apparently, this cool little brew pub just opened in July 2018. It seems like it used to be an old gas station or garage, but it's been restored and is very clean, shiny, and new. Inside, you'll find a nice roomy area with a couple of high-top tables. They keep the glass garage doors open when the weather is nice. The brewing casks are off to the side and in plain view, so you get to see where all the magic happens. Out front, they have about 12 picnic tables and a cornhole/bean bag toss game. I ordered The Conductor - a Belgian Blonde and was quite impressed with it ($6 a pint). Just one thing to make note of: If you are walking to this place after dark, there's about 1/8 of a mile stretch of road on Rhode Island Ave that has no street lights. It's in a safe neighborhood, but it's dark on this stretch of the road. Things happen in safe neighborhoods too, so just be aware of the lack of street lights. On the plus side, the county police station is in this stretch of darkness, so I don't think you'll have any problems. I love small, local startup breweries, so please, please, please get out there and support this locally owned business. If you live in the area, you should count yourself lucky. The *absolute* coolest thing I learned about this place is how they got their name - check this short video out if you want to know how the three owners came up with the name - it's really a cool story (it's only a minute long, so take a minute and check it out). https://youtu.be/mAFQU55cu7I

Yelp
A nice cozy wonderful addition to the area. We walked here, so I can't add details on parking, but it seemed like there was a lot on site. They have ample seating; both outdoor and indoor. Outdoor they have wonderful heat lamps, so you can hangout in fresh air, even on a chillier day. Indoor, they have a few picnic tables and bar stool eating. Beerwise, they have a nice variety. Their wonderful bartenders will provide tasters to help you out on preferences. You can get a beer for $6 or a flight of 4-5oz- for $10. (I'd like to note-the bartenders are deaf-it is only noted because they are super friendly, and I think if people who want to check out the place knew how to say please and thank you in ASL, it would go a long way.) We really enjoyed hanging out here. The vibe was great. The people were fantastic. The beer was good. So happy they are in the area.

Chuq Y.

Yelp
We went here for one of their soft openings. The place was packed. There is a real thirst for places to hang out in the area, and this is one if the answers. The beer is very good. They had a Rye Session Ale and an IPA that I drank one of each. What really makes this place unique is that it's three owners are deaf. They support deaf-owned businesses and want to provide a place where the deaf community can gather. The tasting room itself has 12 taps and has a small bar that has maybe 8 stools around it. It was nice weather tonight so pretty much all available windows and doors were open. We had no problems ordering even though we know a miniscule amount of sign language. The staff had no problem reading lips. The casks and all are shiny new. Even the legs were shiny! I can't wait for them to get into full swing!

Levi S.

Yelp
This is just simply the best beer in the area. Had their Belgian, an IPA, and a pils (I think). Every single one was great. Just moved here from Michigan and I've been searching for good local beer. Streetcar is by far the best in the area and worth the trip despite not serving food.

Michael K.

Yelp
Stopped in for a beer. Very clean. Friendly staff. It's a bit small but quite a bit of outside seating. Great place to meet friends for a couple beers

Mat G.

Yelp
Excellent beer selection ALL the time! I've frequented here numerous times over the different seasons and they have a delightful rotating selection of beers to choose from! Their beers have a great variance in flavors, richness, and hop variety. Their saisons, pilsners, and stouts are my favorites by far! I definitely recommend checking this place out!

Patricia S.

Yelp
This was a great environment where I had an opportunity to taste several great beers before settling for a nice cold glass. Of course, I was convince to buy a growler to bring home to enjoy when I'm watching T.V. It was a great environment with great people. I look forward to return...... with my growler!

Monique' M.

Yelp
Wonderful owner and workers who are very pleasant and patient. I didn't drink any of the beer but members of my group drank beer and root beer and enjoyed them. They allow dogs inside and on the patio. The place is well-lit and comfortable to hang out for a while. Highly recommended.

Eri S.

Yelp
Super fun tasting. Flight of 4 (5oz pours) for $11. BlackBerry was light (4.9) and gently sour and a beautiful pink. I was expecting the spiciness of the grain to pop in Rye-Not (6.6) and was surprised by the strong sassafras. The Scotch'd Pumpkin (7.0) comes with a spiced sugar rim and is like a beautiful fall/winter dessert that pairs well with the smooth coffee of Living the Hy-Life (7.8). Normally not a fan of sweet beers but the spicing went so well with the Scotch'd Pumpkin that it won me over. Also tasted the Azacca, which was a wonderfully gently tart IPA, Veteran's, which was a straight ahead classic pale ale, and the So-Hy-Pa, which was not my fave - too sweet for my taste. I think my faves are the the Blackberry for appetizer, Colonel for easy food pairing,,and Scotched Pumpkin and Living the Hy-Life for dessert.

Estefani P.

Yelp
This is a long overdue review of my favorite brewery in the DC area. Streetcar 82 makes the best artesanal beers in a nice and small facility. I usually stick to the same beers and my favorite right now is the Ferme. My other favorite ones are the Colonel and Farmer's Daughter. Aside from the great beers, I love Streetcar 82's sense of community of friendly staff. Streetcar 82 is the best hangout spot during covid. They have a large outdoor space and heaters for the cold days. This is definitely one of my favorite places in the area.

Jenny O.

Yelp
Support your local business! This deaf-owned brewery opened just over the weekend. We stopped by yesterday afternoon and paid for tickets at the beer-garden set up tent outside. I think this is to reduce the congestion inside (the pours are inside). I think about half of the customers were hearing people and the other half were deaf. While it wasn't difficult to order and the atmosphere was welcoming, I did feel very cognizant of my privilege. I would definitely recommend learning some sign language before you go. It was drizzling the entire time we were there, but the tent felt relaxed and I had a great time!

Samantha R.

Yelp
Cozy, great brewery taking all COVID precautions! Great indoor and outdoor spaces with plenty of seating for larger parties. The string lights outside create the best atmosphere and the staff is nice and attentive. I had the Strassenbahn which was light and crisp and my boyfriend had the Cosmic Dust double ipa which he loved. Will definitely be back soon!

Kristian P.

Yelp
They have some really good beers here. I love their selection of IPAs and my friends love the sours and even the hard seltzers are satisfying! I like to get a crowler or two to go when I'm having friends over. There's plenty of outdoor seating, and the staff are super helpful. I'm grateful to have a place like this in my neighborhood.

Malia T.

Yelp
A brewery in Hyattsville?! How awesome! We arrived later in the evening after having a pie at the pizza place across the street. It was busy and almost all of the tables were taken. They had jumbo Jenga out to play the garage doors were open since it was such a beautiful night! The bartenders were deaf but I didn't have an issue ordering since they read my lips. The beer was delicious and atmosphere was great. Definitely plan on going back again.

Evan P.

Yelp
We've been wanting to try Street Car 82 for a while and finally got our chance today and look forward to becoming regulars. Founded by 3 Gallaudet graduates, Street Car offers great beer and a sense of community. We were able to find a table (all of which were nicely spaced out) and were impressed by the friendly staff and how everyone seemed to be relaxed, meeting people, and enjoying some good socially distanced company. They had 9 or so beers on tap and we really enjoyed their flavorful IPAs. Street Car seems to do a lot with the community, partnering with local businesses for food and festivities. They've got a great outdoor patio with space heaters, high tops facing Rhode Island Avenue and numerous picnic tables. Super chill, great beer, and a nice vibe! We look forward to our next visit!

Tim V.

Yelp
Great rotating selection of beers, friendly staff, and good vibes all around. The neighborhood is lucky to have streetcar.

Brenna C.

Yelp
Streetcar 82 Brewing is my partner and I's all-time favorite hangout spot! The beer is super high-quality and brewed with SO much love! We appreciate the hell out of Streetcar's Founders (Local Gallaudet University Alumni) for fostering such an inclusive ASL, LGBTQIA+, and racially diverse environment and hangout spot!!!

Kate M.

Yelp
All the best things in a brewery - indoor and outdoor seating, wide variety of beer styles on the menu, very friendly staff and a laid back, community feel. When we stopped in on a Saturday afternoon after paddling at the Anacostia Boathouse nearby, we were one of about five groups at the brewery but the atmosphere was still quiet, there was plenty of seating indoor and out, and service was quick. My friend got the flight of 4 and I had a glass of the pumpkin ale. I'm normally not a big flavored beer drinker, but this was really tasty. I also loved to see a nice selection of non-alcoholic drinks on the menu. I love that Streetcar is inclusive of everyone, including folks who aren't drinking. Hope to come back soon to enjoy the twinkle-lit front patio!

Faysal I.

Yelp
How did I not know about this place in my neighborhood? Great spot by Rhode island and the tracks. Small inside and clean with a spacious outdoor bench sitting area and space heaters for winter. The vibe is friendly and laid back. I don't know any ASL but the bartender understood me just fine by lipreading. And most importantly the beer is high quality stuff. I especially liked their sour IPA and their saison. We really needed a spot like this in the neighborhood. I will be coming back, a lot.

Jill S.

Yelp
We've been coming here since last summer when they first opened, and so far it's been such a great addition to Hyattsville. The space is small, with a short bar up front, and a larger room with tables just past that, including all the brewing tanks where all their beer is made. In nice weather, the big patio is great for hanging out with larger groups, complete with cornhole and giant Jenga. Although it's a small brewery, they always have about 10 beers on tap, representing a wide variety of styles - Belgian, IPA, stout, porter, something for every taste. They also have two craft sodas on tap from Appalachian Brewing on tap for non-drinkers. You can bring any food from outside to enjoy there, or order delivery to the brewery. The owners are really nice, obviously passionate about beer, and happy to meet everyone who comes in. They also are involved in community events, such as the Hyattsville Arts & Ales festival, the Zombie Run 5K which raises funds for the local elementary school, and they host ASL classes for those who want to learn.

Kathline L.

Yelp
I had the Rose - Merry and it was SO good. The Thats My Jam was liked by my bf. It is run by deaf people which is awesome. Outside was mozzeria (also run by deaf people) -- we got a Stromboli which was soo good. Just wish there was a sign that the people working are deaf because my group came in and started talking to them which felt bad about.

Lucas E.

Yelp
Really cool brewery. Super cool vibe, it seems it used to be an auto garage or gas station and has a really hip, but cozy feel. Nice outdoor area (with heaters). Owned and ran by deaf folks, which doesn't especially matter, the place is great on its own merit.... I only mention it for one reason.. In my Yelp search for a new brewery to visit I noticed this in a review. A quick trip to youtube, and a few mins of practice later and I could sign please and thank you and order a beer in ASL. While you can easily get a beer without having done this, I think it is a polite touch to give it a shot when you visit. The beer is tasty and here are several styles to try. I had a flight of mostly IPAs and really enjoyed them. Great service. I will definitely visit again. Drink local!

Vilay S.

Yelp
It's more than a brewery, it's a community hub. This spot checks off so many boxes. It's a meet up spot for the hard of hearing community. They host meetups for other topical groups (like a crypto group). Family friendly with wood blocks, board games, and changing table in the bathroom. Pet friendly. You can get food delivered or bring your own! The employees have always been super friendly, and every time I'm there with my family we make new friends.

Kristen W.

Yelp
Streetcar-82 was a sponsor and vendor at a local neighborhood event benefiting the local schools (Hyattsville Zombie Run) and their beer was so delicious!! Love this local business! So lucky to have them in Hyattsville!!

Lorri T.

Yelp
Visited this place recently after hearing great reviews. Brought my dog along and we both had a blast. Everyone there, staff and patrons alike, were incredibly friendly. Can't wait to go back!

Taylor R.

Yelp
So I don't really like beer that much, but I loved the beer I had at this cute little brewery in Hyattsville! I can't remember the name of it or if it was an IPA or a lager or what else - but it tasted delicious. I also love that Streetcar 82 is calm, quiet and peaceful. You can have a conversation with your friends without shouting. It's small but laid-out well - and on the day we visited, there were plenty of places to sit. Look forward to visiting again soon!

W Bruce D.

Yelp
If you are looking for a place that defines peaceful happiness and simple enjoyment of a lovely evening with lovely company and lovely brews lovingly served, look no further. The beers and ales at Streetcar 82 are World Class - as good as it gets and certainly amongst the pinnacle in the great Brewery State of Maryland! The staff are the essence of pure joy and happiness. Daniella is amazing and absolutely a treasure. Get a table. Get a pint. Get some great tacos from the onsite food truck or walk to the excellent Pizzeria Paradiso for food. This place defines the very best of gracious, gentle and good living that our souls cry out for and generally never get. Serenity, joy and peaceful happiness to inspire your soul and sate your taste buds. All of that in a parking lot with wooden picnic tables. Yes, it is that good....

Gregg C.

Yelp
Seriously, I don't understand all these great reviews. It's a great location, and has really good atmosphere, but the beer here is not very good. The "wheat" beer I'm drinking barely tastes like an iconic wheat. More like bitter hops and water. Really disappointed. I really wanted to like this place, especially since it's one of the most welcoming gathering spots for the deaf community. Save you money and walk a little farther to either Franklins or Maryland Meadworks, depending on which direction you turn on Route 1.

Jon H.

Yelp
Amazing beer and walking distance from my house. As someone who started homebrewing at 18 and dreamed of opening a brewery, but never had the cajones to do it, I love what's happening here. They will be successful in this awesome community, and they deserve to be, given the great beer they are brewing.

M V.

Yelp
This is one of the best breweries in the DC area. I love introducing friends and loved ones to this brewery. It is a very cool experience to interact directly with the deaf community, too. We want to point out that the red velvet stout is one of the best beers we have ever had... and this is even considering one of us is a huge fan of IPAs and the red velvet couldn't be farther from an IPA. Please keep making this beer!!!!! :) we love you guys.

Jon W.

Yelp
What!?!? When did this place get here! I had The Conductor but got to try some for free first before picking that one. Yummy. Cool spot in the arts district! I can't wait for warm weather when I can have a beer outside.

Mark C.

Yelp
One of the most incredible neighborhood brew spots ever! Solid brews, awesome beertenders and all around great atmosphere. S82 is a deaf owned brewery and the crowd is a mix between the hearing, and hearing impaired community. But the beer brings everyone together for a great time!

Hannah H.

Yelp
I will definitely go back to Streetcar 82. A well-run local business with good beers and a welcoming atmosphere. Inviting outdoor seating with good lighting and spaced-out tables for Coronavirus conditions.

Justin M.

Yelp
This place really hit the spot for us. We live in the Bloomingdale area but we wanted to go somewhere with more space and without a reservation requirement. Good beer, great outdoor atmosphere, and the service was stellar. And everyone abided by COVID norms. We'll definitely go here again.

Jessica G.

Yelp
This is our favorite hangout. The people are lovely, the beer is fantastic. Perfect place for a chill summer evening with friends. Order a pizza and bring you pup! It's the perfect neighborhood brewery. Currently loving the cherry sour.
