Where to Find Margs That Give Back in St. Louis and Kansas City | Eater

"Located in the heart of Kansas City’s bustling Crossroads neighborhood, Streetcar Grille & Tavern marries the familiar comforts of a traditional sports bar with the elevated feel and culinary creativity of a gastropub. The restaurant, which takes its name from the streetcar that rolls directly outside its front door, embraces its Kansas City pedigree by incorporating local favorites like J. Rieger whiskey, or the city’s famous burnt ends. This is a food enthusiast’s sports bar, especially for those who enjoy creative takes on traditional mac and cheese (the one topped with burnt ends is a K.C.-inflected masterwork). And for those looking to add a little extra spice to their Astral Tequila, the bar offers a fiery riff on the cocktail, the spicy margarita, served on the rocks and with a Tajin rim. Looking for more margs? Check out these other local bars serving Astral Tequila: Marquee Restaurant; Quintessential Dining & Nightlife; Harpo’s; Paddy O’s; Malinche; Edera; Flamingo Bowl; The Phoenix; Charlie Hoopers; Cliff’s Taphouse; Southside Bar & Grille; Culture X" - Vox Creative

This was our first visit to Streetcar. We just missed out on brunch, but the regular menu is quite diverse and we look forward to returning to try out other options. There are plenty of appealing entrees to choose from and the appetizer menu by itself is broad. The atmosphere definitely allows for a boisterous happy hour or sports pub environment and an enjoyable dinner conversation with friends at the same time given the smart setup. The outdoor patio is also surprisingly private even its proximity to the streets. We did not eat out there but it looks like it would be enjoyable in the right weather.

Took the family here to celebrate our back to school successes and were excited about some of the menu items as well as their extensive selection of different Mac & Cheese. Disclaimer we went on a slow Monday, so giving some grace as it was not super busy and maybe a tad early for dinner, however place was super clean and staff was friendly. Wife was super thrilled to find a loaded baked potato and I had a tough time deciding between some of their local specials. Kids menu was impressive for a small bar & grill. Food had alot of potential and we are willing to try again, but we agreed everything seemed a little dry and lacked much flavor. We'll try again!

Street Car Grille is a solid spot for a casual bite in Kansas City North. We stopped in for burgers and were not disappointed. We tried the Kingdom Burger and the Current Burger—both were flavorful, juicy, and cooked just right. The toppings were fresh and well-balanced, adding great texture and taste to each bite. For sides, we had fries and a salad. The fries were crisp and golden, a perfect complement to the burgers. The salad was fresh and nicely portioned, a good lighter option to round out the meal. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable, making it an easy choice for a laid-back lunch or dinner. Service was friendly and efficient. If you're in the area and craving a good burger with no fuss, Street Car Grille is worth a visit.

Ordered to go over the phone. Both sides for the sandwiches were ordered to be caesar salads. They must’ve really wanted us to taste their fries. Also the famed Gouda stuffed tater tots had no Gouda inside, so I had to get my own bit of cheese on the side. At least the tots were homemade! $76 total for these 4 items and that’s with no drinks no alcohol and no tip.

We came to watch the A&M game which was only on SEC+. The manager troubleshooted the TV for 20 minutes and even though he couldn’t get that channel the experience was awesome. Sarah was an extremely good server. She took great care of us for almost 2 hours. Definitely coming back.

We came in to eat lunch, have a beer and watch some football. We ordered our drinks and one of the servers brought it over. My wife always ordes a glass of ice. So we told our server she had forgot and asked again. She brought it to us but slammed it down and walked off.. we also ordered the scotch egg. It's wrapped with pork. It still had blood and we said it wasn't done We were told it's saposed to be like that. Probably won't be back.

We arrived for Sunday brunch. We each ordered: 1. Spicy Egg 🥚 Sandwich 🥪 😋 I believe my friend said it was good jalapeño jam was not agreeing with her stomach. So it definitely has some SPICE 🔥🔥 2. SW BLVD was delicious as well I had with over medium eggs. Will eat her again. They have daily specials and karaoke night I believe as well

Going into the place it was nice, we had a large party but they were accommodating and I had called twice in a couple weeks to make sure it was good to make reservations. Even with it busy, we still didn’t feel crammed. Where it started to kind of go down was from not having silverware or menus for us, one of the adults went and gathered what he could for everyone. The menu had a large variety and great kids options, most of the descriptions made it hard to decide. All our orders got in and the server mentioned, “wow that’s a lot of food”… this should have been a red flag right away. the food started to come out and kind of came out sporadically and it was like an auction, the server and a runner were just calling out the food rather than doing it by families like we had ordered. Most of our food had come out with items other than what was ordered and had to ask for the right thing, which he was quick to get! We had one family though, the two adult meals didn’t come out until I went and found the server and he went and almost immediately had it out. He stated it was sent to the wrong table… but no one thought to bring it to the right one?! Quality of the food was so so, they all had potential, the fruit cup was delicious for the kids and most of the kids quality was great, that’s why I am giving it some stars. We had some items that the food seemed dry, missing quantity (like the reuben), or was impossible to eat because it had too much sauce. The party that had the late food only received a 10% discount and instead should have had the two meals taken off. If we do come back we will not invite our entire team for a last hoorah but maybe just a date night.

Yelp

Yelp
There is no shortage of TVs so it looks like a nice place to watch a game! We tried the bao bun appetizer. It was definitely more sweet, than heat, but I did like the fresh topping. The current burger was served on sourdough. The toast definitely overpowered the smash burger but the pimento cheese and jalapeños added great flavor. The taco lover in me may return to give the Taco Tuesday 3 tacos for $6 a try.

Courtney A.

Yelp
I have been there twice and both times the food was mediocre to say the least. The service was slow with waitresses both times not talkative at all not really helpful with questing on changing or substituting items on menu items. TVs everywhere came during prime dinner time and wasn't packed it was seat yourself. I would probably not go back again as I gave it two try's.

Yelp
We were seated right away, which was a nice start. The booths are a good size--plenty of room--and the bar setup looks great if you're looking for that atmosphere. Our server came by quickly and got our order in with no delay. We went with the BBQ brisket nachos, and they did not disappoint. In a true BBQ town, the brisket was super tender and the sauce had that perfect sweet kick. Paired with the white cheese sauce and jalapeños? So good. Honestly, we just had that as our meal. We ordered a strawberry margarita and a Tank 7 on draft--both solid choices. Definitely planning to come back.

Yelp
We tried this place today for the first time and enjoyed it. Service was great and the space is huge with lots of tvs and a huge car area. We chose to sit back aways in a booth where it was quieter (football was on, noisy bar). The KC cheesesteak was packed with veggies and yummy burnt ends and cheese. My Buffalo chicken sandwich was huge and very yummy. We both opted for the $1 up charge of asparagus over fries. The asparagus was grilled and seasoned well, just wish there were more than about 6-8 pieces. There was also a $.50 up charge for a side of ranch, which I think Buffalo chicken should always come with a side of ranch or blue cheese for no charge, but at least it wasn't too much of a charge. We'll definitely be back to try some other items. Prices are ok, a little high, but could be worse. Definitely worth checking out this new spot up north!

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch on Memorial Day. Place was seat yourself, but after 10 minutes with no service we moved to the bar. Place appeared very understaffed but servers were friendly and seemed very busy. Ordered appetizers to share which were 12.00 each...one was 6 chicken wings (OUT of Blue Cheese), the other 4 pretzel sticks. Food was good but expensive for what you got and wait for food was LONG. Nice cold beer. Was just ok for me

Yelp
So, I finally made it over to the Streetcar tonight! That's right, I stopped in at the Streetcar Grille and Tavern KC Northland and checked the place out. All I can say is that those of us in the Northland are lucky to have such a place. It's a huge bar, a ton of tables, both tall tables and regular sit down tables. Every square inch of the wall is covered by either a TV or a Street Car sign or a beer sign light of the beers that they happen to be selling. I found a place at the bar and before my keister got comfortable on a very comfortable bar stool the bartender came up and asked me if I would like a menu and a drink. My answer was yes to both! I ordered the 16 oz. Yuengling and then I went with their version of a cheese steak. They brought me the beer to sip on and just a few minutes later out came the sandwich! They call this thing the KC Cheesesteak and it consists of burnt ends, peppers, onions, pepper jack cheese, garlic aioli, served on a toasted hoagie smothered with a bit of barbecue sauce. It came out piping hot on a roll of super fresh bread! I dare you to try to pick it up because I don't think many people can do it. I ended up cutting mine in thirds so I could manage it, and boy was it good! Just look at that beautiful plate of food! I got there around 4:00 and it was probably 50% full and by the time I left at 6:00 tonight there were still a few Empty Tables but not many and the "U" shaped bar was completely packed full of people. Well done Streetcar Grill and Tavern KC Northland! Well done indeed! On a frosty cold Thursday evening I'm stuffing my face with some good Q that they call their cheesesteak. I think I'll rename it to the Barbecue Beast of Barry Road!

Yelp
Ordered burger medium well and it came out rare Argentina steak sandwich had zero taste meat was raw tomatoes were half ripe and tough won't ever come back

Yelp
My wife and I went there about 230 pm. Very nice setup, very clean. My wife ordered the large baked potato, which is actually two baked potato's. We had onion straws and chips with just salt. It was all great. The best thing was my KC Cheesesteak. The burnt ends in the sandwich were perfect. Tender and moist and the sauce had a mild kick. It was one of the best cheesesteak sandwiches I have had in KC. The service was quick and friendly. Our waitress knew the menu well and was very helpful.

Yelp
I would like to start by saying and hoping this place is working out some kinks. It is still very new. We have given it 3 tries now. The first and most successful meal we had was in the mid afternoon inside the restaurant. The bao buns were SO good and our cocktails were super delicious. (Gouda tots were dry and not impressive). The bartender was welcoming and it was a nice experience. We tried to order dinner togo for our family a few nights later and that was a fiasco. They were happy to apologize and gave me a free glass of wine while I waited for my call ahead order. The order still wasn't right when I got to the car after my 45 minute wait for the food fresh off of a 12.5 hour shift at work. They did give me two drink tickets to extend their apology for the multiple mishaps. I just tried to attribute this to being a new place. We decided on our way home tonight to stop in for a late dinner and drinks. The bartender seemed like she was pretty annoyed that we were ordering drinks upon arrival. (she did soften up as time passed) To sum up my overall review is that this place shouldn't serve the full menu anywhere near the time the kitchen closes. It was an over all disgrace! The Rueben that we had never been able to get before bc it was sold out was SO bad. It was totally and completely dry. The bao buns still somehow did taste edible but were COLD. The quesabirria tacos were the most pathetic part of the meal. They were completely soggy and not served with consome. I did expect food to be less quality at night so we ordered multiple things hoping to get one thing that came out well. That would be the chorizo nachos! They were definitely the highlight of the food! We would have loved them to be served with some kind of sauce or salsa but they were delicious.

Yelp
Streetcar Grill and Tavern recently opened their 2nd location in the Northland across from Metro North Crossing. Although new, there's nothing really new about the concept -a large bar, tons of high tops and tables with lots of sports on the TV's and an elevated bar food menu - burgers, apps, salads, mac and cheese.... I have been to their Crossroads location a couple of times and this new location seems to fit the area demographics better, it definitely belongs in the suburbs rather than being in the arts district. With the name Streetcar and not being on the Streetcar line like the flagship location, they need to open up the pocketbooks and find an old streetcar or replicate one for the space to create an identity. My boss took me there today for my work anniversary and we shared the pretzel appetizer; four doughy pretzel sticks with a pot of spicy queso for dipping - very nice. My Current Burger was a smash burger with pimento cheese, provolone, pickled onions and jalapeños, chipotle aioli, spinach and bacon on toasted sourdough bread. A very tasty sammy. No complaints but nothing that draws me back soon.

Yelp
Very Nice Selection. The Mac and Cheese is very good and the Chicken And Waffles are to die for! Place is kinda hidden so it's easy to forget about, but you will wanna go back!

Yelp
First time at new place. Not a very good start. Arrived at 554pm and when you walk in the sign says wait to be seated. Place was not super busy but still nice crowd. First impressions nice TV's and very nice size bar chairs at the bar are very close together (they should remove a few just to give a little more room) I waited about 5 mins before someone came to seat me. As the lady started to help the host showed up. (Younger girl long black hair) she showed me to a table. The waitress came to table very quickly which was nice. I told her I never been here before and asked her to tell me about the place. She said she was new herself and has only tried two things off the menu. So I ordered the Main Street shrimp. Food arrived very quickly and was good. I then ordered the conductors club. The club was very disappointing bacon was cold and the ham & turkey was not cold (more like room temperature little scary) after the sandwich the waitress offered dessert. I said what do you have? She went and grabbed the dessert menu. I asked her what does she like? She said I have not tried any of them. I told her she should try everything so when people ask she can make recommendations. I asked what do most people order? She said she has only sold one dessert. I passed on the desserts but they did look good on the menu. See my overall rating Host/Greeting - 1-10 waited 5 mins to be seated. I watched her and she would go sit at a table with people and socialize. People would come in but have to wait until she saw them. Food - 5 out of 10 - shrimp was good but sandwich was the major disappointment. Plus fries were cold Waitress - 8 out of 10 - she was very good at refills and making sure everything was good. Atmosphere - 9 out of 10 - great bar, TVs and room to get around. Cost - 7 out of 10 - I did not drink but for food it was on average indoor and outdoor seating offered Overall I would give 5 out of 10 - I might give it one more try.

Yelp
Street Car Tavern absolutely delivered on all fronts. The service was exceptional--our waiter was fantastic and incredibly attentive. He never let our drinks go empty and even brought an extra cup of ice without being asked because he noticed mine was melting slowly. It's the little things like that that really stand out! He also gave us great menu recommendations, and every dish we tried was packed with flavor. From start to finish, it was a top-notch experience. The atmosphere was quiet and they played great music. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
We went here on a recommendation from a co-worker and next door app. We went for happy hour and got the onion basket, which is basically a deconstructed blooming onion, only not greasy and so addictive! We also got the patty melt and burnt end cheesesteak. We really liked the patty melt. The other sandwich wasn't really like a cheesesteak, but it wasn't bad. The gourmet pickles were sooooooooo good!! I could have eaten a bowl of those. It was nice and clean inside, staff were super friendly too. 10/10 i do recommend.

Lisa W.

Yelp
Vacuuming while customers are seated is a big turn off for me. Got a SW steak salad. Had to ask for a side of pico de gallo, since it wasn't included on the salad, as advertised. Then asked for a steak knife, since one wasn't offered, and I was having a difficult time cutting my steak with the butter knife. Husband's baked potato was barely warm. Server was nice enough . She just disappeared for long periods of time. We were there to watch a game, so she probably thought we'd overstayed our welcome. I might come back if I was staying nearby (we're visiting), but only if I was staying close by.

Yelp
Fun atmosphere. Nice staff Good drinks . Food sizes are great I recommend. When good weather outside seating as well.

Yelp
Streetcar is a great place! My wife got the Streetcar burger. She loved it! I had the horseradish French dip. Great sandwich but could have used a little more meat on it in my opinion. Thin for a French dip. I had a spicy margarita to drink and the wife had a black cherry mule. We both really enjoyed them. She actually ended up liking mine better. Our waitress was awesome as well. Our drinks were always full and came to check on us anytime she was close. Many tv's on the inside of the restaurant so you will never miss any game. Plenty of seating as well. We didn't have to wait at all for a table but we didn't show up around 3. Definitely a nice place and not dirty like some bar/restaurants that I've been to. Will definitely go back!

Yelp
Great addition to northland. Tons of TVs, a nice bar area, good size place with good specials. Food has been real solid, loaded tater tots a fav. Only beef is bartender is often solo whipping out drinks for busy bar and tables, yet plenty of staff running around.

Rick J.

Yelp
We have eaten at the Barry Road Streetcar Grille several times and have enjoyed the food each and every time. Highly recommend it!

Jen E.

Yelp
It's a classy sports bar vibe. Railroad style pub if you will. I'm really big on the way it feels to sit especially at a bar. I like to cross my legs while seated at the bar and I was able to do this while being comfortable. The bar is a good height to the chairs which are padded and comfy! We went for a late lunch. Lots of televisions reminding me of BWW but this place is cleaner and classier. Comfortable lighting similar of like a Johnnys Tavern with smaller cozier vibe. Dark walls with lighting that's relaxing not bright or obnoxious. The drink was not too strong and not weak. Food: I cook better at home. Chicken Piccata which said grilled chicken but was bread battered and smothered in a sweet Asian gravy. My kiddo had the kids menu burger and it had a good wood fire flamed flavor to it.

Yelp
This restaurant is kind of hidden, close to the old Toys R Us. Seat yourself, they have booths, tables, high top tables and a large bar seating area. They need more servers.ours took 15 min to notice us, but nice service. Just slow. Couldn't recommend any dishes from the menu. They do have Coke products so that's a bonus. Good variety of food from burgers to sandwiches, salads etc. wings with bbq were good, nice sauce, wish they were boneless. Salad was great, needed more dressing and waiter disappeared. Pretzel appetizer was good but cheese had spicy peppers that ruined it. Hamburgers are excellent! Overall, felt like a new restaurant but they said they'd been there 8 months. Need to work on service and friendliness overall. Will return since food was good.

Mike S.

Yelp
Ordered some appetizers. Onion rings were thin and delicious! Queso and chips were excellent, too! REALLY clean and modern sports bar.
google avatar

Yvonne H.

Yelp
We had lunch on a weekday & absolutely loved it! The food, the service, the aesthetics all were way above average. I could see this being a "lunch & linger" type place so if they don't have some dessert offerings that would be a plus. Otherwise this place is perfect

Samantha S.

Yelp
Great service but the brisket nachos had less meat than what I had last month. I probably won't order those again. When paying $18.00 for chips and cheese there should be enough brisket on it.

Rebecca W.

Yelp
Meech my sever was awesome. Fast service, friendly and good food. Good prices. Next door to courtyard hotel.

Jeremy A.

Yelp
Food was terrible. Burger overcooked and checkin tenders could've been Tyson frozen chicken tenders. Potato rounds were way over seasoned and cooked to a crisp. Another northland restaurant disappoints.

Matt C.

Yelp
Service: waiter gave good attention to keeping drinks filled, taking an accurate order Food: took a while for food to come out, when it did half the it was wrong. Waiter offered to put in a new order, we declined due to time of the first meal to have come out. We didn't complain or raise a fuss about any of it. New place and they are learning. The Manager immediately had a new order made correctly and discounted our ticket. The food itself was bar food presented in a fancy manner.

Yelp
A Very friendly and Nice meeting place with friends. Staffing is Great and food is Delicious a Great place to go to for evening outing. Go to experience for your first time

Josh H.

Yelp
This place has a good atmosphere but the food is horrible. It looks and tastes like they get their food from frozen bags

Tori M.

Yelp
On Saturday, I called the Northland location to see if they took reservations for a party of 8. They told me they only took reservations for 12+. I asked the hostess if it would be busy around 5:30pm and she said likely but come on in and they would put us on the waitlist. I have two small children so my father arrived around 5pm to get us on the list early. When he arrived the Manager, Tyler, said 1) they do take reservations for our size party but 2) they would not be able to accommodate us that night. We asked why a given there was currently no wait and several open tables available. The hostess also found record of my call earlier in the day but, Tyler continued to insist the restaurant did not have capacity and refused to seat our party. Ultimately, the encounter ended with my family leaving and not wanting to ever eat at this restaurant again. The hostesses were kind and willing to accommodate us, but Tyler was persistent in refusing us service. Oddly enough, an hour after refusing us service, we received a call from the restaurant saying our table was ready; a table we never were made aware of after being kicked out. I was very disappointed as this is a restaurant I like and was excited to try in the Northland. We frequent that area daily (daycare/swim) but will be sure to pass along the disappointing encounter.

Patti V.

Yelp
THE new hotspot in the Kansas City Northland. Warm, cozy, upscale sports bar atmosphere - fabulous food, reasonable prices, awesome ambiance and great service. Our server (Sierra G) was outstanding! Highly recommend this place. Check out the weekly specials: especially their Monday burger and fries special, and taco Tuesday.

Nicole H.

Yelp
My party of 6 was sat with little to no wait at 6pm, which hardly ever happens these days. The service was fast and friendly. My picky 9 yo ordered the chicken and waffles and he ate every bit of it. Fantastic cheesecake for dessert! We will definitely be adding this to our regular rotation for dining out.
