I’ve been a regular customer at this Streets Market for the past three years, and while most of the staff have always been welcoming, kind, and professional, I unfortunately can’t say the same about one particular employee — a blonde woman named Mirna.
From the very beginning, her attitude toward me has been noticeably rude and dismissive. Whether it’s her intentionally not coming to the register when I’m clearly standing there, rolling her eyes when I need assistance, or treating me differently compared to other customers — the difference in her tone, her body language, and overall demeanor is painfully obvious. She often tosses my items into bags carelessly and rushes me through transactions, making the entire experience uncomfortable.
Today was the final straw for me. I went in to quickly grab a few things before my next meeting and needed to split my payment between two cards. Mirna immediately began huffing and puffing with clear frustration, as if this simple request was a huge inconvenience. When I attempted to complete the transaction, it took her an unusual amount of time to process the split payment, and when I tried to finalize it, she loudly announced that my card had been declined. The way she raised her voice felt deliberate, especially considering another employee was nearby speaking to me calmly and quietly. I checked my account on the spot and saw the charge had already gone through, which only added to my confusion and frustration.
This isn’t an isolated incident — her attitude towards me has been consistently disrespectful for years. I’ve tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, but the pattern has only gotten worse. I can’t help but wonder if this is personal animosity or something deeper, as I am Afro-Latina, and at times, her dismissive tone when speaking Spanish to me has felt both condescending and exclusionary — as if she assumes I wouldn’t understand, even though we share cultural roots.
No customer should have to walk into a store and feel targeted or disrespected, especially when approaching every interaction with kindness and positivity. If Mirna treats me this way so openly, I can only imagine how she may treat others when no one is watching.
I would appreciate if management took this matter seriously. No one should have to tolerate this kind of behavior, especially from an employee representing a neighborhood business.
