Strega - Review - East Nashville - Nashville - The Infatuation

"The couple that owns Strega has some Nashville bona fides—one hails from Rosemary & Beauty Queen and the other from City Winery. And they both just wanted to create a place for the neighborhood to hang. That’s what led to Strega, a low-key retro bar in East Nashville with pool tables under a pergola, a rock playlist,  cocktails that lean Italian, and an Apertivo hour menu stocked with savory cannolis, cacio e pepe, and $1 slices of pizza." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

Came here on their second night open and found a decent sized crowd here. The building wasn’t as I expected and had a unique design. There was a sectioned off “patio” with a few chairs and tables in the front, a door to the main area, a walkway down the side of the house to the backyard area, and outside stairs that led up to the second floor. I don’t think there are any indoor stairs - but there is another set of stairs going up the 2nd floor from the backyard area. The design inside was cool, but honestly I was hoping for more weird things - more animal statues, huge artwork and more funky wallpaper to give it a cooler vibe. The downstairs bar was a bit smaller than upstairs - but there was a “secret” hang out room with a bookcase door that was definitely the coolest part inside. The specialty cocktail menu featured a lot of gin, but I picked an espresso martini that was really good. I didn’t eat any food but it looked decent.

First time and loved it! Cool vibe. $1 tasty slices during HH and cheap drafts always! Parking's a little tricky.

I went for a friend's b-day party and had a great time. The pizza disappeared as fast as they could bring it out, the cocktails were creative and delicious, the vibe was right, and the staff was great. I was there for a private event upstairs, and I'd definitely recommend you consider them for your events, and invite me.

Came for the $1 pizza slices and happy hour. Staff were busy but attentive, and our pizza came quick. The drink options both alcoholic and non alcoholic were pretty solid, and the pizza was brought quickly and really good. The back patio area was also nice, with picnic benches all over and suitable for most group sizes. I will happily come back.

Atmosphere is very cool. A bit congested and tiny space though. Not a quiet place. It is mostly a bar. We did not have cocktails. We thought it was more of a restaurant. Food was ok. Pizza did not taste fresh and appetizer was a dull with not much flavor. This would be the place for drinks and chatting but not food.

Loved the atmosphere, and the bartenders were excellent. Wanted to be able to give five stars, but unfortunately we found the pizza by the slice almost inedible. We kept ordering in hopes that we just got a stale batch, but that didn’t seem to be the case.

Google
Cool atmosphere and neat drinks. Service very good! Food is inedible. The pizza by the slice makes a hot n ready appear gourmet in comparison. Mozz sticks too salty. Quite possibly some of the worst bar food I’ve ever had.

Great potential but unfortunately is a horrible experience. Not sure if it’s cause it’s so new or what. I’ve been there 3x’s now and every time I leave more disappointed. Tonight (Saturday November 29) a woman was working the door checking IDs and she was obviously inebriated. Whatever, didn’t care she was friendly. Well then she decides to pull out her vape and hit it MULTIPLE times. Completely inside the building mind you, this alone would get the place shut down quick as no smoking is allowed in bars (especially by staff) anymore and yes that includes vaping. Not sure if she was high, drunk, or both but her hitting the vape multiple times 2 feet away from me is what made me decide to never visit this place again. The menus are also all wrong - they only have 1 draft beer on tap. They need to cross out the other drafts and write seasonal ask bartender instead of assuming customers are okay with being given a canned beer. Bartenders were great all 3 times however and made good cocktails - just a management and communication issue I feel. The pizza also isn’t anything special and I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here for $1 slices during M-F happy hour cus I would have to stay and eat it. They do NO to go slices. The pizza is nothing compared to up-down, it’s like a frozen pizza that they charge $3 a slice for. It’s also heavily burnt 2/3 times I visited. I don’t like giving bad reviews but I was SHOCKED. They don’t do to go orders and have this bougie-ish decor/environment but then have horrible food and an ID checker who is smoking indoors. Very weird energy.

Yelp
This is a cute, vibey addition to the East Nashville bar scene! It's right off of Gallatin, and there's parking on the side of the building (although I imagine it runs out quickly!) A friend and I stopped in during their happy hour on a Tuesday night, and had the place mostly to ourselves. We sat at the bar, and the bartender shared a few fun recommendations with us while we looked over the menu. Their cocktail offerings rotate a bit with the seasons, and I can't quite remember the name of the drink I ordered. Even still, it was a gin cocktail and it was great! My friend "drew" for an Amaro Collins, which was such a fun, interactive way to choose a drink. The bartender presented her with a deck of cards, and he had her pick three (like a tarot reading). Of the three cards, she selected the Amaro that sounded the best. We didn't try any pizza on this visit, but I'm happy that there is an affordable spot to grab a slice in the neighborhood! I'm sure I'll be back.

Yelp
Super cool spot , especially if you're a local looking to avoid the tourists. I will say I came in with very high hopes. The ambiance did not disappoint and the music set was also on point. Good energy , nothing cliche , just a vibe. Where I have to downgrade was the food. $3 pizza slices felt too good to be true - I was expecting a quick dirty hot cheap slice of pizza. What came was a lukewarm chewy slice that would have honestly blown my mind if it was hot - the ingredients list and pairings were ready to be delicious - but it had clearly been sitting there for quite some time. Chewy at best. The focaccia bread however was delicious, though the red sauce was a little lack luster. There are cheap drink options available which is great. And a decent cocktail offering - also Lots of activities available- though they are all crammed into one zone. IF there were ever two games of darts, a game of pool , and a game of shuffle board going on at the same time - for get about it. Also. Side note I'm not a sports girly. I recognize we are in the south and Sundays are sacred but let's not just have "sports" on the TV to appease. This place has all the makings of a great bar. It may just need a little time to embrace it. Ps. What's up with the secret private room upstairs with a private bar window ...

Yelp
Bar is cozy - they have a nice outside area although we didn't use it as it was cold. They had some good holiday cocktails, including a very delicious banana pudding shot and oatmeal cookie shot. Bartender was efficient, didn't really chat to us much, guess he was too busy. Seems like a fun place, wish I lived closer to give it a few more tries.

Yelp
Love how big this space is, the hidden room made me squeal lol! Friendly bartenders and stiff drinks for alright prices! I cant wait to see what they do out back for summers!

Yelp
My friends and I had heard great things about this bar, so we wanted to go check it out. Right away, we noticed all the Christmas decorations, which were very cute. They also had an inside and outside, which were very different vibes. Outside had fun games and music. Inside was more talkative. We then saw people in front of us order pizza, which we heard was amazing. However, we did not try it, but they did say it was amazing cheap pizza. My friends and I all decided to try different drinks, but only one friend liked hers. She got aperol spritz, so it was a classic. My other friends and I all agreed that our drinks just had a weird taste and we're not great. Overall, the atmosphere was definitely a lot of fun and think it's a great girls night place

Yelp
I am so happy that Strega has added another amazing cocktail bar to East Nashville. We really enjoyed our time there. Super cool retro concept. Indoors, outdoors, and an upstairs for seating- plus a secret room (if you can find it!). I got a dirty martini and one of their specialty gin drinks. Both were super good. There is a bar downstairs and upstairs- both bartenders were super nice and welcoming. They also have games outside which is perfect for a day time hangout. I highly recommend Strega.

Yelp
This bar has such a cool aesthetic and a lot of pictures of cats, which I personally love. The drinks were great and we loved hanging out. Definitely a gem of East Nashville.

Yelp
I came here because I heard about the happy hour special for the pizza, and I had really high hopes, but god was I disappointed. I ordered two slices, and they were the two smallest, saddest, most anemic looking pizza slices I've ordered in a long time. That being said, the drinks were good, the bartenders were knowledgeable and accommodating, and the vibe is great.

Yelp
Great service, great prices, and great space! A new favorite spot for my friends and I. Can't wait to see this place continue to blossom.

Yelp
Great new hang with a big dog friendly outdoor area, outdoor pool table, shuffle board and darts. Tried all 3 kinds of pizza slices (pepperoni, white, and margarita) which were all great and really inexpensive. They are apparently a dollar / slice from 4-7! Stella on draft was very cold and perfect. Friendly staff. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
cute place with ample space for busy nights. we unknowingly visited a few weeks after they opened so understandably there's some kinks to work out. we both ordered drinks as well as some food, drinks were good but food was disappointing- yes i understand it's bar food but it felt like bad cafeteria food. definitely something to work on. the reason for my lower rating- and if i could i'd do a half star more- was how disappointing and honestly rude our bartender was. i felt like i was bothering her by ordering a simple vodka soda. trying to strike up a small courtesy conversation of 'how's your night going' as she made the drink was met with a look and silence. yes i totally understand no one is owed a conversation but as someone who also works in the service industry there is at least a baseline we all have to meet especially when tipping is involved. moments later what seemed like her friends came in and sat by us at the bar and she couldn't be more animated and happy to see them and chatted the whole rest of the time i was there with them. definitely a bummer to see but we will definitely give them another chance once a few more months pass

Yelp
Good drinks, great atmosphere but REAAAALLLYY wish they wouldn't allow smoking in the main outdoor area in the back. Theres a little front patio that makes more sense to be a smoking area, than the outdoor space that makes up almost half of the bar.

Meg A.

Yelp
Good atmosphere, food and drinks are subpar. Italian margarita and slice of pizza are not it.
