Strega Review - Ballard - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Strega is an Italian restaurant in Ballard whose owners also sell homemade pasta at the Ballard Farmers Market. Ironically (and in fact quite sadly) the pasta here is precisely what to avoid, like saltless kale-filled pansoti in flat walnut cream or bell pepper-dominated trofie. Instead, direct your attention to their pizzas, complete with a fluffy Neopolitan chew and a bit of crackle throughout the bottom preventing things from getting soggy. In particular, we have to hype the nuvola—a simple, smoky, stunning little cheese pie covered in tangy-sweet san marzanos and an Avengers-like combination of fresh mozzarella, smoked scamorza, and silky stracchino. Sit at the airy bar with an anatomically perfect aperol spritz for optimal people-watching, or linger with a friend snacking on crust bits until closing. It’s an effortless plan even on a Friday night, which is no small feat in a neighborhood full of hard-to-get-into dinner spots." - Aimee Rizzo

Had a wonderful experience at Strega! This is some of the best pizza you can get in Seattle. The crust is immaculate and the flavor combinations so delicious. The cocktails are also on point, and menu prices reasonable. Our server was so lovely! Will most def be back soon!

We ordered the Boscaiola pizza and found it a bit underwhelming. The flavor was quite bland, and the crust was extremely thin, which made the slices hard to hold and caused the toppings to slide off easily. That said, the service was excellent and the ambiance was lovely, both of which made the dining experience pleasant overall. With some improvements to the pizza, this place could be a real standout.

We originally discovered this pizza at the Queen Anne Farmers Market under the name Vespucci Pizza. Always a hit and always a long line of repeat customers. We were so happy to learn the owner had opened Strega Pizzeria in the heart of Ballard serving both pizza, pasta and salads. When we first moved to Seattle, we were searching for a true Neapolitan Pizzeria like the one we loved back home (shout out to Via Tevere in Vancouver, BC). We gave up after eating too many soggy/burnt/crust-heavy pizzas with overly salty and poor ingredients. Strega is truly a neighborhood gem, and the owner is incredibly kind. They also have a happy hour with half-sized pizzas and drink specials. We ordered from both menus and loved all the dishes. The owner also made our toddler a special cheese pizza to go. Just the kindest and friendliest service. Can't wait for our next pizza night! 🍕

Google
The pizza tasted great and the crust around the pizza was really good but the thin crust had a bit of a soggy bottom. I think if they left it in the brick oven for another minute or so it would’ve been less flimsy. When I reheated the pizza at home in the oven the next day it got a little better. The cannoli was PERFECT, no notes!

Great atmosphere! It felt very much a part of the local community. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The oven used for the pizza is really unique and makes for a nice bake. The crust is VERY thin but very nice and chewy. The sauce was fresh (they even pick directly from basil plants growing in the store) and you can see everything going on as they cook, including the classic pizza dough throwing. They also have some fun topping options and a solid bar.

Google
Amazing Pizza and Pasta restaurant in Ballard with a chill atmosphere and great wine. I love taking friends and family to this restaurant. The pizzas are really good and include fresh, local ingredients. They have a bar, outside seating and an area for large groups.

Google
High quality ingredients. The sauce and crust were delicious. Pizza does get a bit soggy toward the middle so you need to eat it pretty quickly. Good service and nice atmosphere!

Google
Strega is the real deal. I'm a former New Yorker and have been thoroughly unimpressed with Seattle's pizza scene so I was thrilled to welcome this place to the neighborhood. The pizza is fantastic. The crust has great depth of flavor and you can tell they use high quality ingredients. The spritz I ordered was the best I have ever had. And the service was excellent. They were also incredibly accommodating to kids which is becoming increasingly rare in Seattle so it was much appreciated. Service was also great and the prices were reasonable. I will be a frequent customer.

Yelp
do NOT sleep on this spot in downtown ballard! it might easily be my go-to pizza pasta spot now! had such a wonderful experience at strega. we came on a saturday afternoon and it was not too busy. we were seated right away. the space is bright and comfortable, with a view of the bar and live pizza making!!! we ordered the fritto misto (SO SO SO GOOD!), the batter was light and crispy, seafood fresh, and it came with this lovely bright green parsley oil, top it all off with a squeeze of lemon, and wow!!! this might be the best calamari i have ever had. it was so good, we ordered a second round of it. and that parsley oil, i need a jar of it stat, i keep dreaming of it still... we got two pizzas and a pasta to share amongst the four of us! the pizzas were delightful, the crust perfectly thin and crispy, toppings generous. the sausage is made in house. the mushrooms were so carefully thinly sliced. the red sauce was bright and fresh! the pasta was good too, and i liked that it was a fun shape and hand made! cooked perfectly al dente, it had a good chew to it!

Yelp
What a new local gem. Came in for some happy hour action and split the happy hour half pizza, pasta, and panuozzo along with some drinks. The pizza crust is absolutely divine and it has to be one of my favorites now in the city! The mozzarella was also so thick and delicious which I wasn't honestly expecting. The panuozzo I think utilized the same crust as the pizza but the filling was so delicious with pistachio and mortadella. I didn't love the pasta as much as it wasn't something too memorable but it wasn't bad either. Lovely servers who work here and they have al fresco dining which is fab. I can't wait to come here for a full dinner experience to try the rest of the menu (especially their pizzas) and I'm excited to see what their salads, meatballs, and desserts are like.

Yelp
Fantastic new spot in Ballard! Staff are great; service is excellent overall Food is delicious; their pizza choices you can't go wrong...literally reminds me of the pizza in Europe! Wood fired, thin crust, sauce without too much fuss, and fresh toppings. All in all an excellent meal. The atmosphere is nice and was great to easily sit at the bar. Highly recommend stopping in!

Yelp
We went to Strega with our two little kids and everyone was very accommodating and kind. They have high chairs and while there's not a specific kids menu - you can get pasta with butter sauce or tomato sauce for the little ones. We got burrata, the Angela pizza and the Trofie pasta - they were all delicious. I think the prices were very fair for the high level of ingredients and portions. We will definitely be back again and really appreciate how nice the staff was.

Yelp
Amazing. Best espresso martini I've ever had and the pizza was also so so so good. Lovely server (I think he's the owner), definitely returning here. Hands down one of the best places in Seattle for food, drinks, and service.

Yelp
Superb, thin, fold-over or fork and knife pizza. The Luciferna was excellent. Friendly service. Good prices. Looking forward to going back!

Yelp
If you've been to Italy this will take you right back!! The food is so fresh, the pizza is not heavy, it's absolutely delicious! We've only had their pizza at the Edmonds Saturday Market, happy to know we can have it year round! The owners are welcoming and friendly. Thank you Fabio we really enjoyed dining at your new place!

Yelp
Excellent Neapolitan style pizza! We are always really happy with the pizzas we get. I do think their cannoli was the best I have had. It took me all the way back to the first time I ever had one. The service and atmosphere is good too; they created a nice low pressure ambiance in that space. Highly recommend Strega.

Yelp
Wonderful romantic vibes at Strega! Makes you feel like you are on vacation in Italy. Food is fresh and flavorful, the drinks hand crafted with care. Service was excellent and attentive, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I love they have non alcoholic cocktails as well! Looking forward to visiting here for pizza as the menu looked amazing.

Yelp
So delicious! Great pizza that's super fresh and love that it's cooked in a wood fire pizza oven! Great staff too and very authentic!

Yelp
We have been looking forward to trying Strega since it opened. Sarah serves fantastic crepes and homemade pastas at the Balard and Redmond farmer's markets every weekend, so our expectations were high. Strega did not disappoint. We started with a glass of Montepulciano and a Sarah's Tea cocktail, followed by an arugala and tomatoe salad. For the entrees, we had the special of the night, wild boar ravioli, and a Lucifera (pepperoni) pizza. Everything was fantastic. The owner made the pizza in the amazingly fancy pizza oven - it rotates, goes up and down, adjusts temperature, everything except it doesn't wash the dishes! The pizza tasted so good. The ravioli was homemade by Sarah, and was so delicious. Then came dessert. Rice pudding and cannoli. The rice pudding was amazing, and the cannoli had dark chocolate shavings, pistachios, and candied orange - knock your socks off good! Fabio was a great server, and the bartender is so creative, in the best way. Give Strega a try and you'll have a new fave!

Yelp
Amazing pizza and even better service. You can really tell how much they care about the food and your experience. I ordered the Angela pizza but they were running short on eggplant so it didn't have much. Later in the meal they surprised us with freshly roasted extra eggplant. It was so good and such a nice touch. We also got the cannoli, it was so good. I will be thinking about it for weeks!

Yelp
Solid pizza but one of the worst pastas I have had in Seattle. Strongly recommend sticking to the pizzas here. Very good service, and they did a good job handling the rush hour and keeping wait times reasonable. Recommend the burrata appetizer as well, but can't stress how disappointing the pasta was for the 22-26 dollar price point.

Yelp
It was our first time here. We enjoyed the gnocchi and wonderful mortadella sandwich with homemade simple ingredients. Drinks were delicious too. It was just like being in Italy again. We highly recommend this restaurant. The owner is very gracious. We will be back.

Yelp
The best owners/customer service I have ever seen! They put their heart and soul into their food and the connections they establish with their customers makes them feel like family. I have had the pleasure of working for this family in the past and I couldn't be more proud and happy they finally have a restaurant. Please enjoy their amazing food and join the family, you won't regret it!

Yelp
Amazing authentic Italian cuisine in Seattle! Chef, front and back of the house are all from Italy. All dishes and ingredients were flavorful and fresh. Loved every single thing we ordered: fabio pizza, boscaiola pizza, trofie pasta (the most delicious pasta I have ever had, comparable to the best pasta I had in Umbria), panna cotta w/ganache (AMAZING). And all the drinks were also great! Definitely coming back. Hope they get a website soon.

Yelp
Italian-style pizzeria, friendly staff, some options of NA beverages and veggie pizzas. Also appetizers and pasta dishes.

Yelp
Amazing pizza! Genuinely some of the best pizza I've ever had in seattle! Imagine tuta Bella but waaay better! Super friendly staff and a very fun atmosphere all decorated for Halloween!

Yelp
The crust on the pizza is everything. They have a solid wine selection, and the service was excellent!

Paulina V.

Yelp
This is my favorite pizza place, they have such a great menu and every pizza I've tried is 10/10. Also tried the Fritto Misto appetizer and it was phenomenal, basically like lightly battered seafood with lemon. Super cute and great service. They're brand new to Ballard so go support!! That space has had a ton of turnover so I really hope they can stick around.

Jen O.

Yelp
Strega is a cozy, casual pizzeria with some delicious pasta options. We've been visiting them in the Ballard Market for more than a decade, but the restaurant is a whole new level. I loved seeing what Sarah does with the pasta in her own kitchen. Incredible! Anthony was the perfect host at the bar. If you have ever visited or lived in Italy, you know this is the real deal - fresh and seasonal ingredients. Can't wait for October zucca!

Nick W.

Yelp
Best Neapolitan pizza I have had in Seattle. The Cannolis are really good too. The service is also very good.

Julie P.

Yelp
My new go-to spot in the neighborhood! This was one of those meals that reminded me of what a good, high-quality pizza tastes like. We got the Nicoletta and a pork ragu pasta- the pizza was incredibly tasty and the pasta had the perfect texture. Service was great and I'm looking forward to trying the other dishes!

rachel k.

Yelp
Delicious food! My boyfriend and I went here for dinner last night and ordered the rose soda and a watermelon soda. So yummy! The waiter was super attentive and all staff were really welcoming. We also got a pizza (Lucifera) which was absolutely delicious!

Kate G.

Yelp
Awesome pizza, great service, cocktails and wine. Can't wait to go back. Dog friendly patio.

Matthew M.

Yelp
Great customer service. We had the Montanara pasta which is made in house and was great. We also had a pizza that was done perfectly. Very nice dinner out.

Lawrence G.

Yelp
So far my favorite restaurant overall in Seattle. Went in today on a nice Friday evening about 6:45pm, service was great and my pizza was ready in 10 minutes! The ambiance was great, I sat in the Bar area. Overall not a whole lot of room for seating. Margarita Pizza was phenomenal, a tad salty and I only say that because I tried it at the farmers marked the weekend prior. I definitely recommend them and look forward to trying something else next time.

Joe C.

Yelp
Burrata appetizer was good, the bread it came with could have been better. Pizza was wet in the middle, so when pulling a slice it's hard to keep up and flops. Flavor was solid

Kyle L.

Yelp
This place is amazing and we cant wait to go back. Fantastic pizza, delicious cocktails and very friendly staff. What a great addition to the Ballard area.
