The Studio Allston Hotel has seen better days, however it is still a kitchy, eclectic designed establishment that seems to make a decent effort at providing a decent stay. In my opinion, the location was great, as it is directly across the street from a park on the Charles River. The park has extensive walking/biking trails, crew boats, playgrounds, picnic areas and even has a small ampitheater among other amenities. There are restaurants within a reasonable distance and a McDonald's and a grocery store are across the street behind the hotel (parking is in the rear of the hotel so you can't miss them). The hotel appears to have been very trendy back in the early to mid 2000's, maybe even the late 90's, but it looks dated now. It gives off a Miami Vice sort of feel. It offers several amenities like a lounge area with a pool table and bar, a large, extensive outdoor patio area and they also give free Day Passes to the ultra-modern New Balance Fitness Center which is a short 3-4 minute drive or a 10-12 minute walk away. There is not enough parking available, so if the hotel is at capacity, Im not sure what they do to accommodate guests. Parking is somewhat of an inconvenience being in its present location, but its what they have and its free. The hotel charges a "resort fee" of around $35/day but it didnt feel like much of a resort. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room that I was in lived up to my mediocre expectations (after observing the lobby and hallways leading to the room and riding in a very old elevator. After getting my luggage to the room, I never rode the elevator again until the day I checked out). The furniture was dated,as were the decorations. However, it was very clean! The bed was made military-tight and I could've bounced a quarter off of it! One of the 2 biggest drawbacks was a vent in the bathroom near the ceiling which also led directly to the vent in the adjacent room. At night the occupants of the other room left the bathroom light on which shone brightly and eerily into the room that I was in. I dont think that there is a clear view into either room from the other one, but you could definitely hear people taking care of business and may have even been able to get a whiff if the stench were pungent enough. It gave me an uncomfortable feeling, so I was able to cover the vent with the stack of towels which were on the rack near the vent. The second issue was the shower curtain, which was old, worn and dingy beyond cleaning. It was long overdue for replacing. The view from the windows wasn't worth looking at due to the structures that are on either side of the hotel. Overall my stay was tolerable and not bad, but I doubt that I would choose ti stay there again.
