Well, yet again, I have ventured forth to a once, pretty great theater, only to be disappointed. Studio Movie Grill has been my go-to SECOND choice (after Movie Tavern), ever since I was in college and they opened their first location near us. We used to visit the SMG on Holcomb Bridge Road, but after Covid, they shut down- and they said it was permanent. A few months later, they opened back up. No explanation. Well, since then, my grandmother moved North and my uncle, with whom I tend to go see movies, began staying up there at her place instead of ours. This meant a switch to the Duluth SMG when he's in town.
I will say, they did fix that pesky door that apparently had the armature fall on a customers head when he walked in.... That might not be to e best start though.
Over the past year, I've seen service go downhill and the actual theater starting to show signs of age. Last time I went and saw a movie at the Duluth SMG, I noticed a couple pixels were out in theater 5. I let them know about it and they said they'd have their tech look into it. This was about a month ago. Low and behold, I have returned and ended up in theater 5 again...and guess what's still messed up? The same spots are appearing on the screen and now there's even a blown speaker.
A few years ago, the food was pretty damn good, but these days it's really just not. I ordered the BBQ Bacon Burger (less the BBQ and add Mayo) with chips and a starter of mozzarella sticks. I was eagerly awaiting my crunchy, cheesy, delicious snack...but it never came. Come to find out, the waitress didn't put it on my order. My chips and burger came out- the burger was good- bacon was crispy, lettuce tasted fresh despite being shredded, the BBQ-Mayo switch-out was present...but then there were the house-made chips. Some soggy, some limp and chewy, and only maybe 5 of them were HALF-crunchy. I could even forgive them not being salted if they were at least crunchy...
The theater was quiet. Since this particular theater screening room doesn't share a hallway with another, we didn't have to deal with competing sounds from adjacent movies playing.
