On the Grid : Studio Two Three

"Dubbed “Richmond’s artist workspace,” Studio Two Three is a nonprofit with a mission: keep talented artists in Richmond by teaching them how to operate like entrepreneurs. The studio itself is a veritable playground for creatives, chock-full of equipment for screen printing, etching, lithography, digital printing, and photography. White walls showcase pinned prints, artist studios line the shop perimeter, and a sunny shop boasts swag for purchase: posters, T-shirts, greeting cards, tea towels, and more. The nonprofit also offers affordable community classes, corporate team building excursions, and regular printing parties." - The Frontier Project

This rating is based on the Winter Market of 2025. That alone blew my socks off. What a gorgeous space, and such a wide variety of locally made products! There is a little bit of everything from embroidered pins to ceramics to overalls. The space itself is nice, the staff friendly, and I could see myself coming back for all kinds of events. Be sure to check out the ornament tree in front of the events hall - the ornaments are donated, and profits will go to charity. I will definitely be coming back.

Went to a showing of D(e)ad here and just loved the vibe and versatility of the space. Everyone working was very cool and very kind and made sure the event was a smooth and enjoyable experience. Now that I know this place exists, I'll definitely be back!

My daughter and I took a screen printing intro class here with Maggie Yokley and it was incredible. The amount of professional knowledge shared + real life hands on experience in just 4 hours was hard to believe. Thank you Studio TwoThree for making high quality art instruction accessible! I can’t wait to come back.

I share a studio at Studio Two Three and sew and print on fabric there, plus I teach some classes. I absolutely love this place for its welcoming vibe and the fact that I can access the studio 24/7 to make art. I encourage everyone to check it out! There is a small shop with lots of prints and Richmond swag.... great gifts.

Absolutely amazing creator space. 10 out of 10 100% recommend. The Space also has an overwhelming amount of character..

Google
Great spot, but my back hurts just thinking about watching a movie here. Wish they’d update their seating to be more accessible.

This is a welcoming space and i look forward to taking classes here again. I took a crochet class with Maddy and had a great time and learned how to at least get started with the bascs. I hope there will be more crochet classes in addition to other classes. I really like coming here.

Yelp
This indie shop is a great spot for local merch honoring the RVA culture and supporting all types of artists. They have a good collection of shirts, bananas, housewares, zines, and other fun finds. The staff are very friendly and they were even able to make an added print run of a shirt I had my on that was out of size. They host events that support the community as well. Take some time to pop by and say hi to the crew.

Yelp
What a haven for artists! I'd been to the smaller Scott's Addition location, but just had a chance to check out the Manchester location where they've been for about a year. They are doing some amazing programming here. What a beautiful space to create, and what an amazing addition to the immediate neighborhood.

Yelp
I attended a class here and really enjoyed it. Our instructor Maddy was absolutely awesome and I enjoyed meeting the people in my class and spent a really fun afternoon learning and chatting with new friends. The classes are varied, well done, and reasonably priced and well worth the money. It's a great place to meet new, interesting like minded people and have a sense of community. In other words, a welcoming space. Also--they do different events there. Today they had a flea market which was fun.

Yelp
Studio Two Three is a hidden gem for artists and art enthusiasts here in Richmond. Part gallery and event space and part art studio, Two Three is a coworking space that is available to rent for the community. Local artists can rent a portion of the studio as their own work space or to exhibit their work. They offer classes in for learners of all levels in printmaking, etching, sewing and textiles, photo and film, book and paper arts, business for artists, and more. There is also a traveling printmaking van that has been a big hit at events like Yelp Elite and TEDxRVA. I had a great time perusing their art and book sale this past weekend, and will certainly be back for more events and maybe some classes in the future.

Yelp
Nice venue to hold events. Roomy, a lot of versatility, nice bathrooms, convenient location, and clean. Parking was kinda iffy but not terrible and it's free parking, is just street parking, so you might have to park a little far and walk but no complaints here. That's a minor issue in my opinion.

Yelp
Attended the Yelper's event and had a great time. The atmosphere was grand. Had difficulty with keeping the power running as there was much happening pulling on the electricity. Overall, it was a nice space for an event!

Yelp
It's really easy to stop watching TV and go make art when there's an amazing studio full of fun people waiting for you. Studio Two Three is like a chocolate-covered strawberry: a delicious party on the outside, with something really good for you at its heart. (It's a 501(c)3 that does outreach projects, btw.) Studio rental is CHEAP. $90/month for a 6-month term - with free reign over all the presses, etching equipment and chemicals, exposure unit, blotters, brayers, drying racks... so much stuff. No way would you find studio space that cheap with NOTHING in it, much less tons of printmaking equipment. It's also perfect for, say, band members, because you can rent studio time for $15/hour without being a monthly renter if you just need to make a run of t-shirts or something. They've got a sweet little gallery in the back too, where they have shows (including an annual renters/members show!) and drawing classes. Great resource for Richmond artists.

Yelp
I attended Art for the Soul 3 weeks ago. When I purchased my ticket I didn't know what to expect. I really enjoyed seeing local artists and their wares. Everyone (vendors, staff & patrons) were friendly with a welcoming spirit. I look forward to attending another event here.
