If you’re in the market for amazing 360 degree views of Berkeley and the East Bay then this is the place! Great atmosphere for sips and nibbles. Despite trying going many times, I’ve only tried a couple of appetizers and wouldn’t go for the food. I’m not a beer guy, but do enjoy a cocktail. The cocktails here are a solid rating of “good”. Not the best in the East Bay, but the views certainly make up for it.

I went on a Saturday at 4:30, and it was so so fun!! Iloved the vibes, the fire pit was amazing and I loved seeing the views change from day to sunset to night. Such a great rooftop bar overlooking Berkeley and even can see Mount Tam in the distance!!! There is a nice inside area too if the outside is too crowded. There was a live DJ as well I noticed on the inside as I was going to the bathroom. Mike was our waiter and he was so attentive and nice!Service was so fast and friendly. He answered our questions about what dishes/drinks to have and was so helpful! K now on to the food & drinks. Everything was so on point!!! Brussel sprouts with chopped peanuts on them were incredible, truffle parm fries were so good and such a good portion size, smash burger and fried chicken sandwich were both so incredibly good. I would repeat that whole line up again the next time I go!! Every drink was amazing. They make their own ginger beer, how cool is that!!! The September pineapple drink was like pineapple dole whip in drink form. Nothing was too sweet, all good ratios of everything!!

This place was pretty disappointing-- you are paying for the "view". The cocktail we got was way overpriced for what it was, and our calamari was inedible and we had to send it back. However, our waiter was nice and understanding 🍸

A little bit on the pricey side, but everything we ordered was delicious, and the portions were generous. The rooftop has a great atmosphere with an amazing view of Berkeley and the city. Perfect spot to enjoy good food and spend time with friends and family.

Really nice setup, 12th floor of the Residence Inn hotel. Indoor and outdoor space. Bar and Bites. Mixed drinks were tasty. Food was so-so. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t special or particularly great or memorable. They could definitely do more with the space. I could see it as a great event venue, glass panes outside and views of Berkeley. Has a mixed crowd of college students and ‘older’ folks.

Mood music playing but you can still hear yourselves talk.

The manager was an asshole lolst we still had hella fun. It was 12 of us. Our server was the bomb!! It's Berkeley, eclectic and diverse. We weren't going to let an A-HOLE ruin dinner, lol Steak was like buttah😋😋 Oh me & My Grands🩵💙❤️

This place is a hidden gem of Berkeley. Once we walked off the elevator we were greeted by the manager LeeMar who showed us the amazing rooftop outdoor section. We were seated in Yuki's area where we were able to enjoy the views of the entire Bay Area. The food was amazing all of our expectations were met and beyond. I was cold and LeeMar retrieved a blanket for me. Yuki made sure our food came out hot, crispy, and juicy. The drinks were top-tier. This will be a spot to bring out-of-town guests when I show off my town. Study Hall does Berkeley Proud.

Food and costumer service was amazing! Yuki always made sure we were accounted for and made us laugh every time she came by. Amazing energy and spirit she brought, would definitely recommend if you're in the area.

I had a great experience at Studyhall Rooftop. The staff was nice and our server Martin was very helpful and made our experience great. We were sitting with the nice view of the fireworks on 4th of July but it was slightly uncomfortable when we overheard a server (Yuki) complaining about her manager to some clients that were standing behind us. Overall the experience was great! Will come back.

Roof top bar located in Residence Inn Berkeley. If you're looking for a place to chill out and have drinks, this is a convenient place to go. It is close to UC Berkeley and the modern decor is beautiful. The place is pricey and the portions are not that filling. The service left me a little bit wanting. Considering the upscale design and location, I thought I would have better service. The bartender and severs were socializing while customers waited to order or waited for their food/drinks. I would have stayed longer had the service been better. My bill for the night was expensive considering what I got.

The food was very mediocre. The "chicharrón" wasn't actual chicharrón meat--it was just chips. The Brussels sprouts were burned. But the worst part was the service. Our waiter was incredibly rude for reasons we still don't understand. We were two Latina women, in case that context matters. He questioned our IDs like they were fake, never checked on us after the food was served, and we had to walk up to the front just to ask for the check because he just never came back. It was a very uncomfortable experience and we won't be returning. The waiter name was Karim M. If the name on the receipt is correct. The drinks and atmosphere were nice!

I've been to this spot a few times now, and it never disappoints! The rooftop is definitely the highlight--great views, perfect for catching a sunset or just enjoying the fresh air. Every time I've visited, the ambiance has been on point: relaxed but lively, with a nice mix of people. The food and drinks are consistently solid. Great selection, and everything I've tried so far has been fresh and flavorful. What really stood out on my last visit was the service. I believe our server's name was Julia--she was fantastic. Super friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and just had a really warm, welcoming vibe. She made the whole experience even better. Highly recommend if you're looking for a great place to unwind, enjoy some good food and drinks, and take in the rooftop atmosphere!

This place was nice, the view is amazing the service was good ambiance nice. Food was decent. We had chicken wings. I swear I left a review already here and I have more pictures somewhere. I promise I will add to this as soon as I find them. I love this place! The customer service was amazing. The view was so beautiful. We went axe throwing and then had dinner afterwards. Here the drinks were good. Chicken wings were okay I'm sure because people have raved about it that the food is really good there. But I'm kind of weird about my chicken wings. Okay my mom's chicken wings. No one will ever be able to beat them so they weren't bad okay but they weren't my mom's I guess LOL. I'll add more pics soon

This is my second time here last time I sat inside because it was raining, but I was just amazed at the beautiful views this time. It was fabulous weather and I was just more enamored with the views. We scored a table right in the corner and had the most gorgeous views of the Campanile surrounding BERKELEY area. Drinks are not cheap but they are good. Wait staff goes above and beyond and totally awesome.

love this bar! Not only is the view great. It's such a vibe. The cocktails are a bit in the pricier Side but they're so worth it! Specially with the entertainment and energy that the bartenders give you. I got the honor to meet Isela and Angel for my very first experience and they're the reason I come back. Theyre not only are they tentative but they feed of each others energy. They're professional and goofy which is a great thing to have at a bar. They've been the best duo I've seen in a while at a bar. They recommended great drinks on and off the menu. Can't wait to go back when they're both working together.

Heading to the Greek Theatre for a show with my dad, we wanted to try a new spot outside of our typical Shattuck food & bevvie locales. After hearing about Study Hall Rooftop and seeing a few great social campaigns, we decided to give it a try since it's not only close to the venue, but checked all the boxes we were looking for. Convenience, great drink menu, yummy food, epic views, and local brews. We needed a new father/daughter picture and Study Hall provided that for us for the perfect Berkeley backdrop. Yuki was such a fun server, full of smiles and a great time. The crowd was starting to pick up while we enjoyed a few rounds, an order of Brussels and the burger. The Brussels were delicious and made just how I enjoy them ~ thinly-shaved and toasted. These came with peanuts, a sweet soy glaze, and topped with Fresno chilis. The burger was done just right too ~ double Wagyu patties with a delicious garlic aioli you could bottle up. Nicely done. While we were leaving to jet set into our night of music, we noticed a DJ setting up. Such a great space and place for a fun happy hour meet up, date night, for groups, or just a solo ride. Can't wait for round two when the weather gets a tad bit less wet!

Went there yesterday as a girls date. The place has a beautiful view but the service was bad. Our server his name was Karim who was very rude. He never once checked on us to see how we were doing. Or if we needed something else. We waited 30 minutes and got up to go ask for the tab because he literally ignored us. The food was a 3/10. We got the Brussel sprouts and they were literally burnt. The chicharones were literally chips. Not going there again. Try to look for the manager at the end to inform them this but couldn't find them. Proof of what we paid for a bad service and food

The good: Service, convenience, the rooftop location, live music, food presentation. The bad: Food was really bland and because of this we will not go back, . We ordered the fish and chips. Fish was overcooked, almost burnt with a hard fried texture in spots. Im not sure how they got this so wrong but the chips and trio of dips was awful. The chips were cold, hard, stale, and unsalted. The guacamole was so bland, it tasted like it only had mashed avocado and chopped tomatoes. No salt, garlic, onion, cilantro, lime. The salsa was so mild it tasted like stewed tomatoes. The queso was watery and also bland. The truffle fries were good with a nice crunch.

Staying at the Marriott during my most recent work trip, and decided to visit Study Hall for happy hour. When my husband and I first sat down, the bartender wasn't giving vibes of being friendly. After about 20 minutes, he started chatting with us and the vibes lighten up. I ordered a Vodka sour and my husband had a gin martini, both were good. Prices are decently priced. The menu is pretty extensive, so I'm sure you can find something. We didn't order food so can't speak for it. Overall, good location and I would definitely visit on my next work trip.

Oh heck yes! This place has all the vegetarian and vegan dishes you could ever want! We sampled many and all were excellent. The drinks are a bit spendy but the food was quite reasonable especially for the area. The view is stunning at sunset too! Would go again!

Cute rooftop! It had a gorgeous view. It can get a little pricey, but what rooftop bars aren't nowadays? Definitely would visit again! Servers were attentive and drinks were strong!

Came here for drinks. We went to the bar, but the bar tops were disgusting, leftovers from the previous guest hadn't been cleaned. The bartenders weren't attentive and kept us waiting while they chatted with a server before taking our order. We also noticed that the way they made drinks for others didn't seem very sanitary. The outside rooftop area is nice, chilly, but they provide communal blankets and have heaters around the space.

This rooftop is located inside Residence Inn Hotel. We came on a Saturday evening around 6PM, plenty of cozy seats outside as it wasn't really busy. We asked for seats on the outside to enjoy the view. We also brought our Yorkie & our server was nice enough to bring him a little bowl of water. We ordered a few drinks off the menu and a couple appetizers, truffle fries and chips with three different dips. The appetizers are a really good size and great for sharing. I thought the drinks were okay, I did enjoy the espresso martini, the froth was so fluffy which I really liked. Unfortunately, we were sat at a table without a heater. It gets colder in the evening so I recommend asking for a table with a heater. Overall I really liked the outdoor rooftop. I would come again with some friends.

Elicio and Mike were absolute amazing! They brought the vibe, the food and the Atmosphere and deserved huge pay raises!

Walked out. Came in there around 4:30 today, place is quiet, only four people at the bar and three tables with diners. Asked the bartender about the difference between the two Chardonnays. Without so much as looking up, he says, "two different wineries, I guess." Uhm, okay. So, we went ahead and ordered that and some tacos and asked for two glasses of water. He poured the chard for my wife and then went about doing nothing much at all. Three people at the bar, 10 minutes later, and I walked and asked, can I at least get the water. He says, I'm kind of busy right now. Okay, now I'm annoyed, but sit. Then asked the waitress, who's standing around doing nothing, could I get two glasses of water, not sure what's taking so long. "Not my section," she says. And he's busy. Again, he wasn't doing much of anything. Then I go to a guy and ask him if he's the bar manager. He says yes. I tell him the story. He barely looks up and say, 'he's a little behind.' Last straw, about 1 minute later, someone else comes up and asks the original bartender for a glass of water, and he reaches right under the counter and pours one for him. Took three seconds. I just looked at him and asked him why couldn't you do that for me. He says, without even looking up. "I was busy," and still doesn't pour us the water. That's when we left. Three people, none very busy, couldn't care less, and did nothing to rectify. No, 'hey, I'm so sorry,' nothing. These folks couldn't have cared less and shouldn't be working in the service industry. If you want to be treated with courtesy and elegance, which the prices in the place would suggest, I'd suggest you look elsewhere.

We came here for just a drink and appetizers but the appetizers were so big we got so full! The drinks were strong and great! We had the best server! And the ambiance was a mixture of hotel guest in casual clothes and people on the night out. We loved it here!

The food here is delicious and I'm so my friends and I stopped by! My favorite were the garlic truffle fires! The flavor was a perfect mix of both garlic and truffle that wasn't too overpowering. The drink I had (I don't remember the name but it's blue lol) was a strong drink but it tasted amazing as well. Our server was incredibly sweet and recommended the best of the menu along with drinks. This place is great for a night out with friends or with a date!

This place has a very cozy , outgoing , pretty vibe I loved it so much that I came back 3 different days out of 1 week I will say there's not a lot of food options and I believe there is happy hour I'm not 100% sure.the drinks are very good along with the food pricing rounds up about to $60-$70 per person. parking can be complicated on a busy day most available parking you do have to pay for unless it's a weekend then it's free this place is located in the Berkeley residence inn on the 12th floor. The ambiance is amazing on a rooftop full of beautiful views , heaters and a pretty fire place to keep you warm I enjoyed the R&B soul music as well

Wow. That sums up my experience at this gem. I booked a 615pm dinner on a Sunday for a friend's birthday. I came early because I had a cake that I wanted them to serve at the end of the meal. They do offer cake cutting for birthdays, but there is a $5/per person fee. When I got there I informed them that our party went from 4 to 3. They accommodated us right away and allowed us to take a lap around the restaurant to decide if we wanted to sit inside or outside. We decided on sitting outside, because of the views. Drinks were on point!! We were celebrating, so they were def flowing! I ordered the Shattuck Avenue - so good and so strong! For apps, we ordered the artichoke dip - super yummy! Our mains included the Wagyu burger, fish and chips and the seared mahi tacos. Everything was so good!! We were outside because of the views, so it did get cold. The heaters didn't do much - but they do offer blankets! Shoutout to Grace and Yuki!! Thank you for making it a memorable and fun night! Looking forward to coming back!

Angel and Michael the bartenders made our drinks to perfection I wasn't sure what I wanted so I asked them to recommend me something and they made me a French 75 with Hennessy. I had never tried one before until tonight. I was definitely not disappointed, 10 outta 10 would have again.

What a beautiful bar/ rooftop !!! I don't know how long this has been here but I feel like it's a secret I discovered! Walking distance to shopping and the University. Just found it on Yelp. No reservations on a Sunday evening. We had dinner there. I had a really great burger ! The others in the group got the filet ( steak) with onion strings ( I think this one was the winner over all)....fish tacos, and fish and chips. The food was good, there is not a lot on the menu but enough for everyone to find something to their taste. One negative, everything is a la carte so it adds up. Drinks are pricy as well. The front of the house greeted us and sat us quickly. We ended up sitting inside but took a walk with our drinks out on the rooftop deck where there are lounge areas, fire pits and heaters. Our server was super friendly and helpful, explaining special, letting us try wine before getting a bottle, and they let us move freely. It was a super relaxed atmosphere. The star is the outside area and the VIEW! Going to come back for a Happy Hour soon!

Angel is the best bartender! Great drinks and the best French 75 made with Hennessy. Come through for great ambiance and service! Michael was also super helpful! Check it out if you're ever in Berkeley!

Came here for a date night with my girlfriend and honestly, the vibe and view were the best part. Super pretty spot -- perfect for a sunset drink. But the food and service didn't really deliver. We ordered a bunch: the grilled chicken sandwich, Brussels sprouts, and fries were solid. But my steak? Way too salty and overcooked -- I asked for medium-rare and got medium-well. Plus, it came solo on the plate for $29 -- no sides, just a steak. Felt like a miss. We also got "sweet tots," which turned out to be sweet potato tater tots -- not what I expected, and kinda meh. Our server, Yuki, was clearly stretched too thin. She had a ton of tables, so service was slow and spotty. All in all, great view, great company, but not worth coming back for the food. Maybe just grab a drink and enjoy the scenery. Won't be coming back :/

One line review: a great experience. We were looking for live music and an outdoor patio for dinner, and we stumbled across the Study Hall Rooftop Lounge. It really delivered. This is a lovely venue -- a pleasing aesthetic, fabulous views, good food, and on the evening we were there, a jazz-soul vibe that we loved. Our server Martin was excellent. He recommended beers, brought samples, and reminded us that our fish and chips already came with fries and invited us to consider an alternative to the side of fries we were about to order (we got a side salad instead). In addition to the fish and chips, we also got a double Wagyu burger (nicely executed -- well-seasoned, bun toasted, etc) and for dessert, the Brown Butter Almond Financier. It was not big but a tasty, warm way to conclude a good meal. After a leisurely meal, we retired to the hotel lobby (the Study Hall is atop the Residence Inn in Berkeley) and talked by the fire until nearly midnight. So with a review this good, why only four stars? Price. This is expensive for pub food, nearly $100 for two with only a single beer. You're paying for the view. But on an evening with good weather, it is well worth it. Parking is on the street -- a pain in downtown. Bottom line: This was very nice, and we will be back.

Great service & view. It's lively but not so much that you can't hear. Cute date or girls night vibe. With that said, the food is mediocre and I believe the tab came out to $98 for two appetizers, two drinks. Decent experience but I probably wouldn't come back when there's other great spots nearby.

Finally got a chance to check out Study Hall Rooftop Lounge, that's located at the top of the Marriott hotel in downtown Berkeley. We were seated pretty quickly by the window and our server,Her name was Yuki. She was so nice and informative. She told us about the specials she also told us about different cocktails, different wine recommendations. She really catered to us and was so patient and answered all of our questions and all of her recommendations was on point!!! Food and Drinks!! We ended up getting the Wagyu tacos, the truffle fries and two glasses of wines. we really had a great time ! The band was not playing. It was after 6:30 so I'm not sure what time they started, but the weather was 70ish, so the vibes was there, Yuki was pleasant and she was very courteous which is rare. Thank you for helping a couple of newbies. The whole Rooftop area was clean even the restrooms were decent. It was noisy because there was a few graduates that came to celebrate, enough room for large parties. Definitely will be back and can't wait to try different items on their menu. Thank you so much Yuki for taking good care of us. We will ask for you personally next time if you're there.

The vibes were STUNNING here - make sure to wear a jacket though because it does get cold in the winter. This is the perfect place to catch up with friends (the firepit was definitely an added bonus), and I'm so glad Berkeley has a rooftop bar now! We all loved the way our drinks looked and tasted, and our server was very attentive the entire time. Can't wait to go back again very soon!

Such a fun place to dine + the view isn't half bad! I loved the nachos, but be aware the peppers are actually spicy lol. Our server was very sweet as well. Made sure we were well taken care of, even offered us a blanket!

The view is fantastic. Well worth sitting outside if you can stand low temperatures. The food is better than mid. The staff depending upon if they're attentive or spread too thin will be a mixed bag. But they do seem to leave you alone once all the food is there so they aren't pushing you out the door. But I include my receipt. Maybe this is something because I'm just a tourist. But look at all those taxes. $14 in taxes on top of a tip? Sounds like a good documentary start up for slush funds created in San Francisco or Berkeley.

Sloooooowww service and crazy expensive. Four burgers with fries + 6 beers came out to over $200 after they added on a bunch of random extra fees and taxes. The food wasn't even particularly good.

The view was beautiful. But the service was horrible. The servers were nice but the wait time was ridiculous. It took 15 mins just to get water. We received our entree before even receiving our appetizers. By the time the appetizers came we had finished eating our entree and just cancelled the appetizers. Definitely won't be back. I'll find a better rooftop with a beautiful view and better service.

I'll start by saying, I didn't have super high hopes for the food as I was mostly going for the rooftop vibes. There's street parking and garages as well so that wasn't a problem! The place is easy to locate as well it's on the 12th floor of the Marriott hotel. As soon as you enter, you're greeted by the host. It was about 6:30pm didn't need reservations. The outside area was beautifully set up with some live music. As far as service, it was decent. Nothing memorable. The drink I ordered, the Berkeley bash was pretty good! For food we ordered artichoke dip, the Wagyu burger, and fish tacos. The artichoke dip was literally soup! Watery and lacked flavor. I feel like that's kind of hard to mess up... the burger was mediocre, and they hadn't asked how we wanted it cooked so it wasn't to our liking. The mahi tacos however, were tasty! So that was pleasant after ordering the other two dishes. Overall, I probably wouldn't come back again unless I was in the area looking for a drink and some views.

Love the vibes here. It's a beautiful view on the rooftop and they also offer great food and bites. Prices are reasonable despite being a rooftop and part of a hotel. Service is great and they come by often to check in. They have fire pits and it's warm even during the evening. Vibes are great and I highly recommend it. Cocktails are great here. Fun place for friends or a date. Parking can be a little hard to find so leave time for that!

So this rooftop is above a hotel and doesn't really feel like it's part of the hotel? They have a large indoor space and a nice amount of outdoor seating with good views. Be aware that it's not one big space outdoors, it's broken up by lots of vents and walls. The drinks are decent and the food looked good tho we didn't end up eating there. Service was wonderful. A great place to chill after work.

Great views! Been here a few times in the past few months, usually as a follow up to wherever I was earlier in the night. Great casual place to grab and indoor or outdoor seat and have a drink and hang out with friends. You can catch a view of any direction from downtown Berkeley. I wish this place existed when I lived in Berkeley. Kudos to the designers and the operators for keeping this place clean and making it look nice and not stale. Bumped into a friend who was just wrapping up a live music set on the rooftop, disappointed that I didn't know about it and that I missed it. Each time I've been, the bartenders have been professional, but not quite as far as being considered nice or friendly. Not a complaint, just a comment. I'm always surprised this place isn't completely packed, but maybe they don't want it that way and price things accordingly. Definitely a solid spot. I started off with a 4.4 rating in my head and put this at 4 stars, but have decided this is more like a 4.8, so I will bump it up to 5 stars. This seems like a place that would try to charge a cover and that would be annoying and I'd probably skip it. I'm not paying a cover to go get one or two drinks and hang out for 45 mins. But, they do not charge and they provide a wonderful environment.

Pretentious spot that could've been cool. Half the tables empty at 9pm, but they won't seat anyone because they're "booked". 45 minutes later, it was even emptier, but they still wouldn't seat anyone at one of the empty tables.

The best spot for outdoor drinks and a view in Berkeley! To be fair, there aren't a ton of buildings taller than the Residence Inn, so you'd be hard-pressed to find many better views....particularly with the outdoor terrace and fire pits. My friends and I grabbed drinks on one of the warmest days this spring, so it was the perfect day for drinks at Study Hall. They have an interesting menu of cocktails (I got a variation of a margarita) and a pretty big selection of wine and beer. There aren't a ton of tables outside - probably 6ish big ones (some with fire pits) and 4-6 smaller tables, but there are lots of tables indoors where you can still get many of the views (and can also shield yourself from the wind when the sun goes down).

This spot has the potential to be a real upscale venue, but it's lacking the staff that could make this a prime location. The food lacked flavor, but the drinks were okay; with a bit of training, they could be taken to the next level. All the heaters on the rooftop were not working; it felt like poor planning and a low level of effort. Study Hall, do better and treat your guests like they deserve to be treated, that's all.

Went here for a post-work happy hour with some colleagues to celebrate planning/executing a work event. Made a reservation for when they opened to be on the safe side. The views were pretty for one of the taller buildings in Berkeley and the open air patio is great for groups. Ordered a few cocktails and appetizers to share. The biggest hit was the brussel sprouts and lettuce cups for their seasoning. The potatoes were on the okay side since we were expecting them to be crispier, but still tasty. Service was great and very attentive even though they were quite busy with the amount of groups there. Cocktails were pretty strong too which was nice for being on the pricier side. They seem to host DJs every so often, I hope return when they have live music event!

Study Hall has been on my list of places to try and I am so happy I finally came. Yuki was a great waitress and gave us amazing recommendations. The wings were made to perfection, having a perfect crunch. Great and calm atmosphere.
