"A trip to Guerneville is not complete without a stop at Stumptown, which has been keeping river folks fueled with Pale Ale and IPAs since 1997. Currently on tap are their Squirrel Tickler Cream Ale, Rat Bastard Pale Ale, and Donkey Punch Pils. Enjoy burgers and beers on the huge deck overlooking the Russian River, seven days a week. Patrons have access to their private beach and the still-swimmable water beyond." - Jess D. Taylor

This place is absolutely gorgeous. The view, the patio, the table space - everything is beautiful. We instantly regretted the nacho purchase. Please look into a different type of cheese and salsa on them, our group of 6 barely touched them with those flavors. The attitude of bar staff could definitely be kinder and more welcoming.

Cute brewery! We had lunch here on a Thursday at 2pm. Our jalapeño burger took 30 mins, but it was delicious. The fries are good too. They have one N/A beer option. This place is dog friendly and you can enjoy your meal right next to the river (they have picnic tables on the grass). Plenty of space and seating. I’d go back!

Had an overall good experience stopping by for lunch. Food was surprisingly good, although service is definitely on the slower side, taking 30-40 minutes on a seemingly slower afternoon. Everything is self service, and you order food at the counter and drinks from the bar. If you're looking for a laid back pub style experience it's great, but you're definitely paying extra for atmosphere.

Google
Decent beer. Was here in the rainy winter and would like to come back to enjoy summer by the river. Beer service was meh.

Google
Okay, so after looking at the reviews for this place I was a little reluctant to go here. It was nothing like the bad reviews said. The service was totally fine and everyone was polite and friendly enough to. The beer was good, and the double cheeseburger was delicious!!!! One of the best burgers I’ve had in a while. The atmosphere outside was great and me and my two friends had a blast. Great location, great experience. Maybe it’s hit or miss, but this was a HIT. I’ll stop by every time I come through.

Great view of the river But food and drinks are hit or miss My girlfriend got a mixed drink at the bar and a brisket sandwich with corn bread. The drink started like watered down canned fruit juice. The brisket sandwich was dry to the point where the bbq sauce that it was slathered in didn’t help. Pic of the cornbread included was the driest little puck of cornbread I have ever tasted in my life. I got a cream ale and the bacon blue cheese burger. The beer was alright. A little darker flavor that I was expecting from a cream ale. The burger was pretty dang good. I liked that they put a fair amount of blue cheese in it. The service at the bar was ok. Quick service. The food on the other had. Took quite awhile. About 30 minutes. On a very slow seeming day. I’m assuming it was the brisket that took extra long because my burger and fries were cold. 2 other groups that also ordered burgers got their food before ours was ready. Was worth a shot might have just been an off day. May the odds be in your favor.

Google
Tasty bar food for a snack, but the beers and the views are something else! It is such a pleasant experience here to get a nice beer and to relax next to the river at their dockside seating. The service we experienced was amazing as well! Try something new! Stop by and take a moment to pause your busy life and just enjoy a peaceful beer. This place is the perfect spot to just do that!

Google
Walked over from a rental about an hour before sundown. As others have noted, it's not fancy, and the service is not friendly. That's cool, I don't need friendly. Placed our order at the bar, no problem. Beers acquired immediately. Cider and wheat as seen in the photo. Chicken sandwich and fries took an hour to arrive. There were 2 more steak fries than seen in the photo -- I couldn't wait. That said, they were overdone, too crispy all the way through. Sandwich was okay, more onions than necessary, as you see. Nothing to write home about, especially at the price. And the wait. And the mosquitos.

Yelp
This brewery is in a great location right next to Russian River. It has an outdoor seating area with a beautiful view of the water and there are even walkways so you can go down and walk in the grass by the river. They served a variety of beers as well as some basic bar foods- most at a reasonable price. My friends and I came here after spending a day at the lake and found it the perfect way to wind down. I don't usually like beer a lot but I really liked the one I got (the Squirrel Tickler) since it was a lighter beer! I found the food to be a bit mediocre and I already wasn't expecting it to be super great. Still, I had a great time here and will definitely come again next time I make a trip to Russian River!

Yelp
Our friends were excited to take us to Sumptown for lunch because they had been there once and had a good experience. The four of us had a horrible experience and the place has a really bad vibe. There was NO table service and the female bartender felt the need to repeatedly tell us it's "pay as you go", meaning you can not open a tab nor does the nonexistent waiter present you with a bill. So for a four top, it ended up being six separate transactions. Also, the bartender has a side hustle of selling her granola and prods you to buy it, all while delivering horrible service with zero personality. Then she directs you to the table in the corner to retrieve your own silverware and condiments. When we asked for extra BBQ sauce for the dried out brisket, she refused. We had to walk into the actual kitchen and get it from the cook, who was actually quite pleasant. There is a sign on the wall that says, "Don't be a dick, bus your own table". So in a nutshell, she was tipped six times, had a horrible attitude, the beer was very average, food was a 2 out of 4, wait staff didn't exist, food delivery was slow and you're shamed if you don't bus the table yourself. Never Again, even if it was complimentary. This place is loserville and the bartender is the Mayor.

Yelp
Found this place while driving from Bodega Bay and Jenner area, great ambiance and view of the Russian River. A locals spot that did not disappoint, great day to sit outside and enjoy the views of the river and people floating by. Decided to try the daily special which was fish tacos and they were pretty good. Made the stop even more rewarding, great place to stop in and grab a cold craft beer and take in the beautiful river views. Check it out and enjoy! Ciao

Ashley L.

Yelp
Something magical about this brewery especially if you look down towards the river at the grass area. Lots of outdoor seating and a perfect stop on your way home from Russian River. The food is great and like you are at a backyard grill party. Their burger is delicious. There is also a really yummy taco truck right outside. Lots of picnic tables to enjoy and soak up the sun!

Jay T.

Yelp
Great local spot with nice deck seating under the trees with an awesome view of the Russian river. They brew their own beer and is a delight not to be missed! The food is pretty good, a little hit or miss - I had the fish taco special and was rather disappointed, small pieces of meat, and the tortillas were hard & not very appealing.

Raven W.

Yelp
This spot is a must stop when in Guerneville. If you loved beer and bbq, you'll be happy with the menu and bar. Situated right on the Russian River it is a really special and beautiful setting. I saw many reviews talk about how poor the service is, and I understand where they're coming from. The staff gave the vibe that we were not happy to see you, but no one was blatantly rude and it did not take away from the overall experience since the atmosphere was so awesome. Worth a try, just don't expect to have a bubbly conversation with the staff

Kat D.

Yelp
I live in Guerneville, and I can tell you, the bartenders outside are so rude, I thought they were trying to go for the shit-talking New York style concept. Nope. Just rude as hell. Every other bar in Guerneville may be expensive, but at least the bartenders pretend to care that you're a person. On the other hand, there's a guy named John who's always there (working...in the kitchen? Not sure.) who is so down-to-earth and pleasant. I wish he bartended. This place would be a 4 star without these b*t%h a** bartenders, who no matter how nice you are to them, will be short and purposely unfriendly.

David C.

Yelp
July 2023 Cool little spot to check out after floating the river. Dog friendly with a patio and downstairs green with views of the river. Service was helpful with any questions that we had, much of everything else you fetch on your own. Place was quite busy since it was a nice sunny day in the area. The beers and mixed drinks are decent, nothing to write home about. I had gotten a veggie sando and a pub salad. We also got the brisket sliders to share. Compatriots got the brisket sandwich and the big bastard. The veggie sando was ok. It needed more veggies overall and something to gel it together like an aioli or hummus. The pub salad was actually pretty good as far as ingredients but needed more dressing. The sandwiches were cooked well. They had sauces to use which bridged the gap in some places. My partner went into food coma after the big bastard though. Definitely convenient with a good amount of parking on the street. Considering the space crunch for a lot of the area, this was convenient.

J M.

Yelp
No stars if I could. Bartender was drunk, belligerent, and slow. Couldn't take order. Could not count change back. Refused to give me the correct change for ordering only 3 menu items. Absolutely the worst experience in the Russian River Valley. Damn drunk bartender is ridiculous. He messed up the order in front of us as well. Waste of money. Disappointing. My partner asked the bartender for a fork and he was very dismissive and rude for just asking a damn question.

Tina D.

Yelp
I've never eaten something so fast. Their menu is full of delicious food. What we got is a chili dog, some animal style fries and a burger, we just got finished hiking at Armstrong so this place hit the spot. Service was good and you get a buzzer to know when your foods ready. Outdoor seating was so nice, you get to look at the river while you dig into some hearty food. Will eat there again!

Kat H.

Yelp
Very fun atmosphere and the food is really good, especially for a bar/brewery. I had the wheat beer which was good and the pulled pork sandwich was amazing!! The meat was so flavorful and tender and didn't need to hide behind a lot of sauce. The garlic cheese fries were pretty good but the fries were a bit too hard/crunchy. You can't beat the river view while you hang out

Steve D.

Yelp
If your a local, you already know what it is with Stumptown! Right on the river, great music, trees, beer, good weather, pool, sports, friendly people, food is pretty good. Wish they would bring the chicken sandwich back! Truly a gem during the summer time. If you are in town, support this place.

Deanna C.

Yelp
Nice place to stop and have a drink, rain or shine. Back patio with the view of the river is priceless. If your in the area swing by, they have good local brews on tap and offer a full bar.

Dakota T.

Yelp
Came here after a day of floating down the river and it was a great place to grab a bite before heading home! Unfortunately, the beer wasn't my favorite but their food is great and I'm sure their other drinks are great. There food and drink is also very reasonably priced! There's plenty of space and a great view of the river, I'll definitely be back!

Margot L.

Yelp
Service absolutely sucks! Those bartenders need a drink themselves. What a bunch of unhappy people working a service job with customers, terrible combo. Had 2 different beers & both were average to blah. Despite the amazing location & great outdoor deck, never again! Then I went to read other reviews & guess what, service consistently sucks! Go figure lol

Dan S.

Yelp
This is a must stop when traveling by the Russian River. Beautiful deck area overlooking a riverfront sitting area serving great food, local beer and cocktails. It is dog friendly, which is a big plus for us. Super friendly staff. Great assortment of their beers, from pilsners to double IPAs to stouts. We always enjoy the menu items that include the smoked bbq meats, so good! Don't miss it.

Dyanna Q.

Yelp
What a great brewery right off the highway! We biked here from our hotel and needed a place to grab a cold drink and some carbs. Stumptown Brewery did not disappoint. Their large backyard patio overlooks the river, and there's plenty of space to spread out. There were many dogs but they have a sign for no cats (not sure why the cat hatred lol). I had the bacon bleu burger, which was so rich and huge that I couldn't finish the whole thing. It definitely helped power me back to camp. I really liked the Oktoberfest, and my friends enjoyed their Pilsner. All in all, we'd definitely come back next time we're passing through town.

Bruce K.

Yelp
Great family vibe and a friendly bartender on this Sunday afternoon. Beautiful weather to be sitting outside with a cold beer and watching people. There was a food truck today and between that and their free wifi and their delicious beer, it was a five stars stop. Oh, and they now accept credit cards. Yelp
This place is OK...I reckon it's the individual experience here that can throw one off.. The venue itself is eccentric. The inside is dark, with dim lighting echoing a rusty run down dive bar vibe with some interesting decor...lots of dollar bills hanging along the wall. Not a whole lot of room inside. I have a feeling this place might have been designed this way. The outside patio is where you'll want to be, a good amount of open space and picnic benches. The hot sun can roast you since shade options are limited. There is plenty of room to run around along the riverbank and a few picnic tables there as well. Just can bring any glass down there so make sure to pour your beverages into a Red Solo Cup. The staff weren't all that friendly, it's like they were in a hurry to move along...to whatever they were doing. A very unusual experience at a Brewery. It always felt like we were bothering them somehow. Maybe they were doing too many things at once on the particular day we came or they were understaffed...can't say. The views of the river from the outside patio are brilliant. The beer is decent, nothing amazing. I had a pint of the "dirty rat" The food is OK as well, nothing spectacular, just your regular bar food. CHICKEN STRIPS - 3/5 Chili Cheese Fires - 3/5 I'd return to enjoy a pint or two by the riverbank...

Yelp
My wife and I stopped by this place for lunch. I chose it because I was looking for a good burger and the pictures I saw looked really good. The place had the feel of a biker bar to me. It came off kinda rough and kinda crass not because it was but I think that was the vibe it was going for. The restaurant was mostly open with a bar and deck in the back and picnic tables by the river below. Our service was friendly. We ordered at the bar and when it was ready we came up and got it. We both ordered a cheeseburger and fries. The burgers were delicious and the fries were great. Both meals were ten dollars a piece, so I thought the price was reasonable for lunch. I would recommend this place.

Vee M.

Yelp
Not only did the Celtics win tonight but the service was trash. Two angry bartenders with attitude and one really nice older man who was very kind but his teammates sucked. Nice deck and beach area and very kid friendly. Food is great. Drinks, subpar. They have a sign that says "don't be a dick" but they are dicks.

rene r.

Yelp
Had the most wonderful brisket dinner for a reasonable price. Tender meat and an abundance of food! Great beer as well. Staff was friendly.

Lisa T.

Yelp
Cold, tasteless fish tacos and ok beer. Not likely to return. It is a great location on the river. Have a beer. Enjoy the ambiance. Avoid the food.

Fern Gale E.

Yelp
Carlos at the Armstrong State Park recommended we stop by and it was just right. No big expectations just some good food & drink. We definitely got that. The brisket was moist, flavorful & and tiny touch of ilfat along the edge, just right. Over the top on the cornbread (warm& no butter needed) and the coldslaw was fresh & crunchy. I forgot to ask for well done fries so that's on me, but they offered some yummy fry options. Had a porter & cream ale, both good, with the porter having a yummy chocolate undertone. The decor is bar shed and a great back porch overlooking the rushing Russian River. A beautiful accessible green between the building and shoreline. As for service, this is not a tourist joint. It's a place to come, relax, follow the house rules and enjoy what's offered. If you smile people smile back. I suspect it is the locals that have kept it going 25 years, and tourists need to learn not every place is created only for their pleasure. We were happy with our experience, will return & recommend to those of like mind. Thank you Carlos if you happen to read this review!

Hank K.

Yelp
Customer service is lacking. Brought a friend cause I used to love the place. Talked the world about the place. Was sure he was going to like it! But the Bartender chick was super rude as soon as we arrived. She didn't allow us to have Starbucks cups and asked us to finish it outside. Was almost done with it and just finished my coffee beverage then and there.. she then called me out from across the entire bar! As if I had something to hide and she wanted everyone to know. I've never felt such hostile ignorance from a brewery ever. Calm down Lady! We had ordered tons of food and beers from you already! Why be so inhospitable. Likely to be my last time there! Shame

Brian V.

Yelp
We were looking forward to coming here on our way back home from the coast. Beautiful spot and quirky inside. Usually my jam. The food was normal bar food which is fine. What ruined it was the staff. Super rude and not welcoming. Including who I assume was the owner who scolded our group when our kids yelled when a bee landed on them. Everyone had a scowl. Based on the other reviews and owner responses to them I should've been less surprised. I guess we'll continue to drive on by for the foreseeable future. What a shame for a great spot.

Ed L.

Yelp
Well, clearly they don't care about Yelp reviews, but I do want to share my experience for future guests and river floaters. My friends and I floated for 4 hours and saw an opportunity to grab a beer after a long day. We read all signs and followed all directions on where to deflate and get off the river. The brewery pays employees to stand on their patio balcony to turn people away and force them back into the river, despite their confusing signs pointing river floaters to their brewery. Unfortunately, we were tired, dehydrated, and not good swimmers, and it was late in the day with the sun going down. Their employees (as noted in many other reviews) don't have good listening skills; instead of searching for empathy in their cold, hardened hearts, the employee yelled over our attempt to have a discussion with him, repeating like a parrot to get back into the river. It was clear he relished in his position of pitiful power, grasping on to his pathetic power trip to fulfill his existence. It endangered my group, a hostile and discriminatory experience, but now that I see their pride in bad reviews, I better understand their MO. I'll offer my empathy to their unhappy existence, congratulating their survival running a business since '98 with cheap property and operating costs. I hope they can keep this review up as another badge of honor!

Ryan L.

Yelp
Food was OK, but took way too long to arrive and the shorter lady behind the bar with short brown hair was extremely rude

HOLLY P.

Yelp
Good homemade chili that is flavorful and a tad spicy. Nice sitting outdoors or standing in our case as it was sprinkling and watch the overflowing Russian River go by.

Walter B.

Yelp
Walt from Walt's Adventures here at Stumptown Brewery. Now I have traveled to many eateries in many states and have tasted many briskets. Granted, I did have to wait for the food a bit longer than the average time. Any wait time is worth it because the brisket was the best I have ever tasted. It had the perfect amount of sauce and there was no fat on this food. If a master artist would to create a brisket... then they would have worked at Stumptown Brewery. The fries looked to be just the usual frozen fries that one would expect to accompany such a dish. However, they were hot and fresh! Did I forget to mention that the entire establishment sits next to a river? If you are ever traveling anywhere near Guerneville, Ca... make the stop here and treat your tastebuds.

Isabelle H.

Yelp
The food is mediocre and the beer is nothing special. But what needs to be said is the service is AWFUL. They were extremely rude and seemed unhappy with life. When they had to answer simple questions, you get eye rolls and you would think you were asking them about algebraic equations with the looks and attitude you get back. Too bad too, it's a great location, but definitely not worth the trip. Hopefully someone does an overhaul. Head to the awesome restaurants downtown, they appreciate their business.

Frank P.

Yelp
Awesome beer and great food. Friendly vibe and great view of the river. Staff is fun and quick.

Martha L.

Yelp
Fabulous riverside terrain with efficient kind staff, great food and adult bevies and friendly customers ! What a find - how very fun.

Mindy S.

Yelp
People drink at bars because of the bartenders. The nasty, rude ones working here make me never want to go back. There are other options in town. Spend your money elsewhere if you want to relax and have an enjoyable time. If you ask them for anything here you'll feel like you're putting them out. Lazy and unfriendly!

Angelina B.

Yelp
The food was some of the best burgers we ever had and the view was amazing. But the service was slow, bartenders and servers are a bit rude but I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that bc it seems to be a frequent mention on the reviews here. I would still recommend the food but I would just expect that you won't have the most pleasant servers or bartenders unfortunately

Gary Y.

Yelp
Great place to stop by after a day by the coast or on the river. Location is super and beers are decent. Didn't sample too much of the food but the garlic fries were great. One tip, you can go sit down by the river with your drinks - just ask for non-glass cups while ordering.

Kelly G.

Yelp
The highlight of Stumptown Brewery is the large back deck overlooking the Russian River. The food is not that great but probably tastes better after many beers on that fun deck. My patty melt burger was raw. I'm okay with a medium burger but raw is too rare. The garlic fries look more like pesto fries but we're okay. The chili was nasty. It tasted like cigarette butts. Maybe it was burned. I like how you can bring your dog. I'd come back with my dog, sit on that deck and drink beer. But I'd have to be wasted to eat the food. However, no matter how big your buzz, don't get the cigarette butt chili.

Claire O.

Yelp
Food was good, beer delicious, but the whole experience was spoiled by the sour faced bar lady. As far from friendly as you could be, didn't attempt to help us with beer recommendations, to the point my companion ordered water. The bar wasn't busy and an answer more than no, would have been appreciated. Bad for business !

Sue T.

Yelp
Great outside dog friendly deck. Lots of menu choices. Place your food order at one counter and your drink order at the bar. Steps go down to the grassy lower level overlook the Russian River. Corn hole and other games available. Food was good. They strive to make fresh and homemade, a real treat. Ate there twice with our dog. He loved getting a doggy Patty.

Westlynn W.

Yelp
Mother's Day on the river at Stumptown Brewery. They were packed today, lots of families enjoying the patio and lawn. Great Bloody Mary and Dirty Rat IPA. Perfect spot to sit back and relax and enjoy the beautiful day.

Tiffany D.

Yelp
I like the outdoor picnic patio they have in the back with the Russian River right next to it! There's an open bar and the place is very nice to simply be and lounge! It's a great pop by if one is on the road and making a trip to Guerneville, Monte Rio, Russian River area! Grabbed beer for the outing!

Aviv G.

Yelp
Friendly place with a great outdoor dining area overlooking the Russian River. The beers are great!

Matt M.

Yelp
Just happened to see the place while staying down the street on vacation and not ever been to the area. We walked in a felt welcomed from the start. Loved the unique decor and the small local town feel. The beer was great (rat bastard). The fish and chips was delicious and enjoyed talking to a local Aussie fellow. Definitely will return when in the area.

Melanie L.

Yelp
This brewery is pretty central to a lot of the Russian River activities in the area, which makes it a convenient spot to eat, drink, and hang out during this covid time. Here is a list to help you make your decision on whether to stop by or drive by: PROS: ‣ Great atmosphere for group gatherings ‣ Has covid signage displayed for patrons ‣ Picnic tables are spaced appropriately for outdoor dining ‣ 2 bathrooms are handicap accessible and good for one person at a time ‣ They have hard liquor available ‣ Drinks come in a plastic see-through cup with a lid and tape covering the straw opening to keep things more sanitary ‣ Beautiful lake views where you can either set up your own blanket and chairs or sit at a picnic table bench ‣ Dog-friendly with a leash at all times CONS: ‣ When they take your fry order and casually ask if you want ranch or ketchup without telling you they're charging you .50 for each (the menu only states ketchup and ranch upon request) ‣ Bathrooms are not clean and not re-stocked with toiletries ‣ Food orders can take longer than anticipated (25+ min for a basket of garlic Asiago fries) ‣ No table service; self-service only ‣ Food is fairly bland and/or lacks flavor ‣ Ranch sauce is watery and lacks flavor ‣ Parking can be tough - small lot, but street parking is available across the street from the restaurant

Alicia L.

Yelp
The overall environment of this brewery is really chill and laid-back. No indoor dining at this time of course, nor tours. BAR: I didn't have any major qualms about this place other than I felt that the male bartender was not the friendliest. He was a bit impatient with us in trying to figure out what to order when it came to figuring out what to drink. Especially since they're not doing any samples to their beer, it was harder to figure out what we wanted, so we had to go on his word to figure out what the beers best related to from our prior experience. I honestly cannot remember how I liked the beer though, which tells me it wasn't entirely memorable. They didn't have a full stocked bar with our usual Hennessey or Casadores Tequila, but they did have a few other things. We ended up getting a shot of Jameson, which they put into little to-go sauce containers for us, which was cute. FOOD: Ordered the garlic asiago fries, which were pretty good in my opinion, but didn't realize they charged for sauce at all, which was kind of lame they didn't mention it ($0.50 cents). Also ordered the beef hot dog - can't remember how much it cost, but it probably wasn't worth the price. SERVICE: No table/wait service - it's all pick-up only once they call your number, so hopefully you're paying attention. BATHROOMS: Single bathroom only, which aren't very clean, so be sure to wash your hands good! ENVIRONMENT: Once you order, you're able to eat out on the patio, or go downstairs to the grassy/beach area by the river. They've got picnic tables there too. Luckily it wasn't overly crowded when we went, but when we were leaving, it was starting to get a bit more packed. I'm not entirely sure that they're managing the number of patrons coming in because they weren't when we came in, but maybe someone else can answer that. All in all though, it was a chill spot to go to. You can bring in your own picnic blankets/chairs if you want to hang out by the beach and just sit out there for the day with your group by the river - just gotta let the front know that you plan to go to the beach area with your stuff I think.

Lunatik J.

Yelp
Short lady with brown hair was rude (just pointed at stuff and gave me a stink eye) and a simple order took way too long to arrive.

Lance L.

Yelp
The burger and chili dog were amazing. The beers were very refreshing. The view couldn't be beat. The thing that was so memorable was Peter. He was so engaging and pleasant. He talked to Us like old friends. An amazing host. Will be back soon. Cheers

Olivia M.

Yelp
horrible service, food and attitude from employees. Will not be returning. There were also many bees.

Steve D.

Yelp
I love breweries, so going through Guerneville, I had to stop by. It's a beautiful spot on the river, but that's the only amazing part. The food is fine. Nothing amazing, but fine. The beer is the same. It plays country music and gives off a Trumpy vibe. The female blonde bartender took my order and wasn't friendly at all. No pleasantries. No smile. No thank you. As the first person I interacted with there, it was really off putting and a bad first impression. Some of the stuff on the walls makes it very obvious it's a politically conservative establishment. That's odd, considering Guerneville is super gay friendly in general. Also they don't have wifi, don't offer flights, and their bathroom signs are offensive. "Chicks" and "Dicks"? Grow up. Anyways, I wouldn't come back here.
