Su Casa Review - River North - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Su Casa has long perplexed us. Why does this restaurant have such prime River North real estate? Why is it in the original 1800s house that was built here? Why is it connected to Pizzeria Uno? And why did we once see Paul Magee, owner of well-known bars Lost Lake and Milk Bar, walk into Su Casa with his entire staff? How did we know it was him? Because Paul has a very distinct and ridiculous beard, not to mention they were all dressed in Lost Lake tiki attire, which, we should add, is not close by. That means they went out of their way to come here at night. What the f*ck was going on at Su Casa? Is there free money in the basement? A real life Brad/Pitt Edward Norton Fight Club? We had to find out. Turns out, the things going on at Su Casa appear to be exactly what you would expect. It’s basically the locally owned versioned of a Chili’s, but a lot dustier inside. The menu is made up of fajitas, enchiladas, burritos, and rice and beans, all in large quantities and at a cheap price. Margaritas also seem to be a big hit, and our waitress’s death stare said it all when we opted for water instead. Is Su Casa good? Nope, but it probably stays in business from tourists and River North residents who simply don’t care. But the story doesn’t stop there. We also learned that Su Casa is actually associated with Pizzeria Uno. Are we dumb and is this a known fact? Apparently the dude who opened Uno’s was from Texas and decided to start serving Tex-Mex out of Su Casa in 1963. 1963! The fact Su Casa has been open over 50 years might be the craziest part of it all. So consider us officially confused. Su Casa isn’t good, but that doesn’t stop it. We know the first rule of Fight Club is you don’t talk about Fight Club, but please reach out if you have the inside scoop." - Sam Faye

Writing this review specifically because Alex does an incredible job at maintenance. The unit we moved into was a little older and had issues with a few of the appliances, but Alex came in numerous times if need be for each issue and did a great job resolving each and every problem.

I moved in here in July and I'm writing this review mainly because the leasing office is entirely unresponsive. Texts, emails, and calls all go unanswered, except if you're lucky enough to engage with an AI chat bot that also speaks to you in circles. I was told upon move in that the covered parking spots were first come first serve, and confirmed this again in person when I saw the leasing office staff member in person on the grounds. Now, according to multiple text blasts sent out, these are reserved and subject to towing without a sticker. After reaching out via all channels listed on the portal contact info to get clarification on how to get a sticker, I received no response at all. The only way to get a hold of the leasing office is to go there in person and hope someone's present. This is particularly a pain since the leasing office is located at another complex rather than on site. I would have given this place 1 star, but the maintenance guys here are actually incredible and do good work. Edit: Management at the leasing office reached out and rectified my concerns here. Changing my rating accordingly. Thanks for following through here Paul.

The maintenance crew here are the best! They are everything you want in a maintenance team. Alex, Corey, Roberto, and Saurie are very efficient, professional and knowledgeable. Most recently we were upgraded a new stove and they not only took out the old and Installed the new quickly, they also stayed to check that everything worked properly and that I had my questions answered. The best!

Alex from maintenance was amazing! My ceiling tile near the AC was wet and collapsed. He came the same day and identified the issue (clogged drain like for the condensation collection pan), drained it, cleared the block, and put a new tile in, all almost immediately!! Not only did he do a great job, he also was very polite and explained to me exactly what had gone wrong. Thank you!

Place was nice to live, maintenance requests were completely timely, no major issues until I moved out. I deep cleaned the apartment (outside of windows, inside the oven, etc) and they still charged me a $100 “full clean” fee. When I called and asked what specifically warranted $100 of cleaning, they were unable to provide any concrete answers and refunded me, but they never addressed where the charge came from originally. Overall not a bad place to live but make sure to be wary of them trying to rip you off.

I've never had better maintenance and I've lived in Austin 15-20 years. Alex goes above and beyond. If you expect a quick fix he'll fix the whole problem... fast! And he'll do it alone if he's the only guy on call. Completely impressed. 5 stars for Alex, no notes!

Just wanted to give the maintenance crew a shout out; our lock was worn out and Alex solved the issue well. An update; apparently the seal wore out under our toilet due to the advanced age of the building and was leaking into our downstair neighbors ceiling. Alex replaced the parts, re-caulked the toilet and solved the issue quickly, friendly and professionally. Thanks again Alex! For whatever reason I was unable to post a second review, the app is only letting me edit my previous review.
