"New-kid-on-the-block Substrate is a neighborhood enoteca that adds stunning vermouths, amari, and natural wine to Optimist Park. While there’s no food menu, there is a whole shelf dedicated specifically to notorious hot girl foods — tinned fish and cured meats — to be perched atop saltines on the house. By day, the inside is lovely, with the sun casting flirty shadows on the oodles of natural wine bottles, but visitors will want to sip their amber and pink-hued drinks outside on the balcony or patio. Because it’s a small house with a front yard (and a parking lot), it really feels like someone’s yard party. By night, it’s moody with generous specials and a backdrop of something funky on aux, vinyl, or even live. Was so excited to hear that Substrate opened! I love when new place is open in the neighborhood. I really liked to vibe in there. There’s a few different sections with all different different places to sit. I loved all of the selection of vermouth and wine. I ended up having a white vermouth that was outrageous. They had bottles for sale as well. The bartender was very accommodating and knowledgeable. They also had records for sale. Thought that was a great touch!! The bathrooms need to be renovated, but they make fun of that. They also have a nice outdoor space if you would like to bring your dog. Will absolutely go back again!!

This wine bar is my go to place every Wednesday! They have an amazing selection of wines and the owner, Matt, really knows his wines and is able to make great recommendations. They also have a good selection of beers and non-alcoholic items (definitely try Villbyrg). Special shout out to Kathleen who always pulls out our drinks when we walk in. They have some snack food such as chips. Otherwise you can bring in some food or order from Bird Pizzeria around the corner.

It's a wine bar with mildly-grunge Plaza Midwood vibes. Cozy, Laid-back, and unpretentious Good wine selection, with familiar and unusual 'flavors' to enjoy. Substrate has unique wines to explore if that's your gig. seating inside can be difficult depending on how good the weather is outside. I would not bring more than 4 total friends (inc. myself) if sitting outside was not an option

A Chill Vibe with Great Wine Ended up at Substrate after dinner on a Saturday night, and it was the perfect spot to wind down. It’s a relaxed wine bar with a live DJ, and before we knew it, the place was packed. Seating is first come, first served, but there are plenty of cozy nooks to settle into. The wine selection is extensive, with a strong focus on natural wines—music to my ears! It’s the kind of place where you can sip, chat, and actually hear your friends over good music. Parking on the street can be tricky, but there’s a lot nearby if you don’t mind a short walk. If you’re looking for a chill yet lively spot to enjoy great wine with friends, this is it. Definitely adding it to my rotation!

Coolest spot in Charlotte! This new wine/ vermouth bar has a cool, relaxing vibe with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. They have interesting, natural wines that I haven't seen anywhere else. I told them what I usually like and they made recommendations - all delicious. They have live music some nights and also a nice record collection where you can play your pick. It's definitely my new favorite hang out!

Amazing gem - love to support local, especially when it’s good like this! The bartender/owner was super accommodating and knowledgeable, and the prices were reasonable. More than anything, the atmosphere was so cozy and chill; there was even a side room where we played some of the trivia and board games they had available. Highly recommend!

Eclectic wine bar. Neil and Matt are awesome bartenders. Worth a visit. Only issue is a small parking lot. We Lyfted. Good place for a wine tasting.
