Celebrity Chef Thomas Keller Scolds ‘Haters’ Troubled by His Trump Ties | Eater SF

"Named among corporate members of the White House panel, Subway is noted in the article as one of the chains whose inclusion prompted public dismay because critics felt such companies were not representative of the small, struggling restaurants most affected by the pandemic." - Eve Batey

Google
Food was good. Not the best Subway I had, but I cannot complain as this place is in the middle of nowhere. Very good and friendly customer service

Garry S.

At this subway store I ordered veggie patty sub. They charged me $15:79. They were out of cucumbers 🥒, olives , green peppers 🫑. Besides that they charged full price . When I asked them why ? Employees said my boss Satinder P Singh said. ( that's fine as it is , doesn't matter if you are out of half of veggies , )

Google
Go to the next Subway, terrible customer service. The employee had an attitude right from the start when I was placing my order. I asked for a 6-inch white bread sandwich with only turkey. Unfortunately, he messed it up and flattened the bread. My son refused to eat it because he added cheese and pressed the sandwich flat. When I asked if the employee could please remake the sandwich without cheese, he refused and said I would have to buy a new one. Not getting anywhere with him, I bought a new one at the next Subway. Save your money go somewhere else! The lady working was efficient and quick with preparing our sandwiches but even after being toasted the meat was cold on all three sandwiches . Prices are outrageous! Almost $20 for a footlong sub! At the register while paying I was told they couldn’t take my $5 rewards. We will not be returning to this location.

Dilpreet K.

Google
13. Dollars for a 6in sub just skip this location its not even worth it stopping here and they tryna act funny when u ask them why is it so high like bullshit dont even deserve 1 star

I had an absolutely horrible experience at this Subway location. From the moment I walked in, it was clear this store was unorganized and lacked professionalism. One of the workers, a male, was openly complaining about having to come in early, while another employee, a lady, started complaining about the placement of the soup lids. To top it off, they were out of meatballs and Italian Herbs and Cheese bread—two staples I’d expect at any Subway. I showed the female employee a coupon before placing my order, and she said it was okay to use it. After the male employee (the one complaining) made my sandwich, Yesenia rang me up. When I presented the coupon, she abruptly said they don't accept it because the location is independently owned. I explained that most Subways are independently owned and reiterated that I had shown the coupon beforehand. Instead of addressing the issue, Yesenia rudely dismissed me and said she didn’t have time to adjust the price when I asked if they could make me a smaller, less expensive turkey sandwich. At that point, I was starving and felt forced to pay full price for the sandwich. The entire experience was unprofessional and frustrating. Between the staff's rude attitudes, lack of communication, and poor inventory management, I was thoroughly disappointed. I will not be returning to this location, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Yelp
Inside a truck stop gas station "Pilot Travel Center ". Shared Clean bathroom with pilot convenient store . I had the BMT #18 fresh bread , the two guys who assembled my order were friendly . The table seatings were not as clean , most of the tables had debris and dirty. I had to clean the table myself before sitting down .

Yelp
I stopped by this Subway on 11/27/25 and was shocked by how overpriced a footlong Veggie Delight. No extras, no customizations - and they charged $14.47. I usually pay around $9.79 for the exact same sandwich at other locations. Nothing about the experience justified the markup. If you have other options nearby, I'd recommend going there instead. This place should be a last resort.

Yelp
1. Poor customer service! I approached counter without any customers and waited over 5 minutes before I ended up asking for assistance. Lady said, yes I'll help you and continued to do what she was doing. 2. Poor cleanliness. I watched lady touch so many appliances and things in kitchen then proceded to try to make my sandwich without changing her gloves. I had to ask her to change them. 3. Produce lacks freshness. Entire bin of lettuce was brown. Spinach was slimy. I asked for fresh stuff she said thats all they had. Rest of vegetables didn't look fresh either. I ended up paying $14.49 for a 12" turkey and cheese sandwich with an overflow of mayonnaise. We couldn't even finish our halves of sandwich it was so gross. I haven't had Subway in 2 years and I just remembered why I stay away from it. Never again!!

Yelp
This was one of the most expensive Subways I've ever been to. $47 for 2 6 inch sandwiches, 1 foot long, 3 cookies and 4 bags of chips. They also wanted to charge $3 for 1/4 of an avocado in the all American sub which normally comes with avocado. My mom got a cold cuts sandwich and it only had turkey and none of the other types of meat. It's a small little place inside a gas station shop. One of the guys helping us was a little off. Jeremy was the other worker and he seemed a bit more put together. He tried his best to make sure we got what we wanted. But ya, the price is hard to swallow.

Yelp
7/28/24 So sue me that I do not regularly eat subway. Hell okay the last time I ordered from subway was like 5 years ago? So I went to the cashier to place my order and he goes, "You gotta wait in line, pointing to his left side..." Um alright, I was first but there stood 2 people who came after. Okay fine. So I waited behind them. Then I got to the counter and the dude was standing there staring at me. Says nothing. So I stared back... And after many seconds of awkwardness I was kinda thinking we just gonna stand like idiots for a bit till someone yells at us. Then he does ask about bread. Um I dunno man, "You got a list?" He just looks at me blankly.... Says something I'd didn't understand, so I go, "What you got?"... blah blah "Italian" "Italian cheese?" "Italian" ......then he toasted it at my request then got to the selection area... And he stood there. Staring at me F, we doing THIS again. I stared back. Aw fine, "everything. Plus avocado." "Avocado is extra." "Okay." So then we get to the sauces. Stare down #3.... This one I really got no clue. 10s of awkward silence later, "what you got?" He goes everything here. "You got seasoning?" (None to be seen) "Blah blah".... ... ....... Blah blah blah .... Blah ... ...... blat blat blat "And I also the pepperoni footlong dipper." "We don't have any." "What the hell man, I said that up front TWICE to you!"..... alright I'm beyond pissed at this point... We'll end it here Have a great weekend #fastfood

Yelp
went out of our way on a long road trip as this subway was rated higher, mobile ordered since it was so busy. Store claimed they never received our order, refused to make the order using the same code from the online app. Didn't even end up receiving food but my card was charged for the full order ... beware of this store. Honestly there's so many subways on the 5 just go anywhere but here. Really upsetting experience

M D.

Yelp
Early morning 2am, September 5. The guy who's working there had a friend visiting him. Totally embarrassing a guest in line (me) interrupting and copying me as i try to order. The guy behind Subway counters didn't even say sorry... he was even chuckling with him after the visitor dude was copying me(the customer) Out of nowhere. Long hair feeling cool but BUTT UGLY.. Real Weirdo. Everything would have been perfect except for this nuisance friend of your employee

AshB NoFugazi F.

Yelp
The best subway experience I have ever had no lie. Karina helped me and she was on. Clean, changed gloves paid attention and was quick. So was the other young lady working. They were doing the damn thing!!!!! Thank you !!!!

Inderpreet S.

Yelp
Using old bread for serving , staff shows very rude attraction. Never visit to this subway location again.

Yelp
Brandi was THE BEST server -- she was so kind and thoughtful, had a great experience at the subway because of her.

Yelp
You hired the rudest, most self absorbed employee who lacks any decent customer service skills. You do not roll your eyes, talk back, sigh and look away like an immature teenager at a customer who is simply asking for the pricing of items. Utterably disrespectful and disgusting experience.

Yelp
Kim is the best she has the subway well stocked and she can make awsome meal best subway sandwich i had in a long time...

Yelp
Back when I was looking for any kind of job, I interviewed in person at a Subway. It went okay. I like to tell people that I was rejected by Subway, which is kind of true, but in reality I think it boiled down to the schedule that I was available to work. Anyways, I usually always find myself in Avenal since I make the Bay-LA trek frequently. The pit stop is pretty cool since it features two 24-hour eateries: a Mexican place and Subway. Subway honestly hasn't had the best luck as of late. If you've been following the news, you might have an inkling as to why. However, the sandwiches remain as delicious and affordable as ever. Just wanting to fill up on some food, I came here with my sights set on my usual go-to: the footlong Spicy Italian on toasted Italian Herbs and Cheese. With pepperoni and salami and the jalapeños, banana peppers, cucumbers, pickles, black pepper, and creamy sriracha, I have a nice light sandwich with a bit of a kick. I'm giving this Subway five stars because of the stellar service I received from my sandwich artist. Like I said earlier, I applied to Subway back in the day, and my relatives and friends would all tell me that you just get treated horribly there. It's pretty true--people are either robotic to you or just plain mean. My artist, however, greeted me with a nice smile. I like to play a little game with myself to do certain things as efficiently as possible. That means making my food orders extremely clear and observing the training patterns of employees across restaurants and chains. Thus, I knew that I should first make my choice of size (6" vs. 12") apparent first followed by the type of bread. Then, I could go through and reveal the type of sandwich I desired. It's a pretty fluid process that ordinarily takes people a lifetime to master, but I've boiled it down to a science in a much shorter span of time. I know. I'm awesome. Anyways, I think she really appreciated it. In the end, she did something I've had no other sandwich artist ever do, which is actually suggest something off the script. She said, "No parmesan cheese? It would make it taste really good!" It was just super genuine, and it felt so much more than just a tired worker making my sandwich. In the end, she looked at me and said, "Nicest so far!" I wondered what she meant, but then I realized she was calling me the nicest customer so far. That made me obviously happy that I could make her job a little easier but also kind of sad that my common courtesies--saying please after each sentence, thanking her with every move--meant so much. It's just unfortunate the way people treat someone who literally makes up the hands that feed them. Anyways, she really made my day. Not everyone who works at Subway really wants to, but like everything in life, you have to make the most out of as many opportunities as possible. In the end, I'm really glad Subway hired her because she's doing a much better job than I ever could have done.

Yelp
This place go crazy, I had to use the restroom after a long trip and pull up to a gas station just to find out this whole place built like a resort. Got everything you need damn near and right across is a subway and Cinnabon, had to smack down on some subway and the employees were polite and fast! Might come back just because
google avatar

Yelp
I'm gonna give this a 5er not because I think it's worth 5 stars on a general scale but because it's my best subway experience yet. I got some veggie flatizzas and I'm leaving there now with a full tummy but no bloating or regrets about my choices. Plus, the two workers were super nice and they had my fav fountain drink so yeah, p good Subway in my book. Made a 2am stop in the middle of nowhere much better.
google avatar

Katie D.

Yelp
Middle of nowhere truck stop. Little Cesar's sold their last pizza and we watched the dang thing walk out the door. No pizza for us... OR SO WE THOUGHT! Enter Tony, Sandwich (and flatizza) Artist Extrordinaire. Want pastrami on that flatizza? Tony got you. And he will give you a VERY generous portion to boot. He will put so much stuff on that flatizza, you'll have to call it a FATizza. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL. The hero Tony will carefully pack your meal in a box and then PRECISELY arrange that box in the exact center of the plastic bag so NONE of the toppings will slide off his/your creation when you pick it up by the handles. Thank you Tony. Keep being awesome.

Tammy M.

Yelp
This is the best subway I have ever been too. Excellent service and they have stuff that other Subways don't have, like jalapeño cheddar and sourdough bread.
google avatar

Roman G.

Yelp
We say "hunger is not my aunt." Excellent eaten in transit between LA and San Francisco. And there is still 200 miles and sleep sleep sleep !!! Subway is Best!!!

Edmund E.

Yelp
Just went to this subway and they didnt accept subway coupon. Dont think that is fair. They claim that they are not participating restaurant. Warning, don't come to thos place until they change their policy. In addition, subway should inform customers which restaurant doesn't accept coupons in their phone app. What a waste of time exiting the freeway for this restaurant. Ended up buying from some place else in protest.

Yelp
This location isn't clean at all. There's literally flies flying near the food and staff doesn't do anything about it. The place is a mess and we just wanted something to eat. I suggest just skipping this place and head to the next rest stop!
google avatar

Cindy W.

Yelp
Never again but then again... I probably never will. This place is disgusting. I ordered a simple sandwich here and surprised how one can fuck that up. No gloves used either.
google avatar

Emen E.

Yelp
The employees were nice. Corporate Subway needs to make quality control visits if they want to maintain the healthy image and criteria of their franchises. The subway shop is in a pit stop/gasoline/restaurant off the 5 FWY. There are multiple entry points and there is surrounding farmland that may be the reason for flies, but door air blowers would help- right?¿? Restroom are super dirty too. Management, make sure that your establishment maintains clean restroom for your guests.

Yelp
Sintia was so friendly I just popped into use the restroom and figured what the heck a grab a sandwich what a joy you guys are lucky to have her not too sure about her messed up spelling of her name but will let her slide on that one she said its the hospital's fault
google avatar

Yelp
Surly person expressed in her tone of voice that she did not want to serve me, was stingy with the meat, and snapped at me when i asked for the receipt. The receipt is in whole dollars and does not show any California taxes.

Joosay G.

Yelp
Such a great location very friendly, clean, no hurry no rush just professional and exceptional customer service. I was greeted with a smile as I walked through the door the young lady Lina prepared my sub with an apt and well paced etiquette. The result was a really really great sandwich. Exactly as I wanted it to be nothing less than perfect. I will definitely come back and definitely recommend. The rest of the team seemed very friendly as well, appreciate the great service keep it up! Well deserved 5 stars.

Thomas D.

Yelp
Excellent customer service. The vegetables are so fresh and this subway was very clean. I recommend if your in the area to stop by this subway.
google avatar

Stevie B.

Yelp
Horrible service. Rude staff. Everyone of them had attitude. Don't like your job, quit. I'll make sure to pass this rest stop subway anytime I come this way again.
google avatar

Daljit C.

Yelp
One of the best subway.Nice place to stop by for healthy sandwiches. Really good sandwich artists with smiling faces. They know there job really well by offering new stuff & suggestions.
google avatar

Lee B.

Yelp
I'm noting down this address to ensure we never stop at this location again. It's a convenient rest stop and subway is always a quick meal that gets you right back on the road. All the flies flying around this stop should have been a red flag. My sandwich had a funny taste but I ate it anyway as I was hungry. I was tearing pieces of another sandwich for my toddler when I noticed a fly was toasted in the sandwich. My raspberry iced tea tasted like toilet water, and the fresh baked cookies were not fresh and did not taste like a chocolate chip cookie nor peanut butter cookie. The drive back to complain was not worth it but now I know to never stop here again.
google avatar

Sharon B.

Yelp
For a Subway, this experience was flawless -- this is someplace you stop "on the way" to somewhere else, it's about the right distance for the first rest stop on the drive from the San Francisco Bay Area to Los Angeles / San Diego, so you don't expect much, but these servers were perfectly trained and moved the line through rapidly while paying attention to every little detail along the way. They couldn't have been better, the food was great and done exactly as we wanted. They even passed word three people down the line and remembered I asked for soup. SWEET.

Ken B.

Yelp
I've been a regular customer here so most of the time it's good. Last night however was disappointing as I went to place my order. There were only two employees there. A man and a woman. The man informed me that his shift had ended and he was clocked out for the day. The woman was on break and wouldn't be available to serve any customers. I don't want anyone to get in trouble over this but when you run a business there should ALWAYS be someone available to tend to the customers. That's business 101. If someone is on their break, someone should be there to cover the counter. End result was the customers weren't served and they left taking the money with them.
