15 Best Sugar Shacks (or Cabanes à Sucre) Near Montreal | Eater Montreal

"The Ladouceur family had been making syrup for five generations before it opened this Mirabel sugar shack in 2014. This season, they’re primed to return to their normal activities like dancing and karaoke, as well as sizeable all-you-can-eat menus that come in traditional, vegetarian, gluten-free, lactose-free, and kosher options. Prices are $27.83 per adult and $9.14 to $14.79 per child depending on age. With its massive facilities, it’s one of the more family-friendly options around Montreal, with carriage rides and petting zoos with llamas and sheep at the ready." - JP Karwacki

food was great and loved the fact that we can take home our leftovers rather than just them throwing them out, which I think explains why the amount per person is a bit more on the pricier side compared to other sugar shack places! this is our second time coming here and would keep coming back! our little one enjoyed the mini barn, they had sheeps and goats! there were also a playground for kids, and the fireplace area had lively music, and a bar for the adults (they sell shooters, ciders and beers) 🤭

Beautiful place with a good vibe, they sat us in the microbrew while having the sugar shack menu. Best of both world. We were able to watch the Habs game while eating lots of food! Will be back for sure. Menu is 35$ plus taxes

We were a party of 8, with a reservation at 11:30am on Easter Saturday and were seated right away. Service was amazing, the food was delicious. They have a waiting area where people hung to wait for the complete party to arrive and also after having the maple taffy. The waiting area is quite well done, with a large fireplace and a bar that serves refreshments. Overall quite a good place on the north shore with good amenities! PS: We had people with peanut allergies and all dishes were nut-free The management team has taken reviews from the previous years and taken action to improve wait times and it was noticeable. Good job!

This place is wicked cool! The staff is super nice and friendly, and they always have big grins on their faces. The service is quick, and the furniture is awesome. I'd even say it's worth freezing to sit in it. And the fireplace is amazing - it's so well-maintained. The kids can play around outside in the playground. There's a mini petting zoo, which is also very cute.

I just got back from a family birthday celebration there and we had a very good time. The food was excellent, and plentiful. We had great service. They respected our reservation ; perhaps a 10 minute wait time. The staff was very friendly and very organised. We had a great time! And we will be back!

This is second time when i am going to this place, the service was better than first time. Is very noisy, not sure if i needed to go to bar to order beer, but nobody mention anything at the table, or to bring the menu. Very disappointed for the replacement of the horce carriage with a tractor. Not good at all. The mini farm, was a lot smaller than mini. Still for the effort i add 4 stars for service.

Very big... And yes, you have to stay in line about 30-40 min even with confirmed reservation. Quite simple interior and dishes. 40$par person for an usual menu. But you can buy some vine or beer to make your visit colourful :-)))) They suggest taking your unfinished food with you. The service is good.

This was our first time ever, as a family of 6 and experiencing Sugar Shack season in the Montreal region (been 15yrs since entering CA!). We landed here as a "fall Back" because our original attempt at Sucrarie de la Montange Fell apart (search my review several days prior). This review is also to counter/juxtapose several negative reviews that were posted a few hours before this one. Not knowing what to expect at all, we had a great experience. Making the reservation online was soo seamless, and they took us 40min earlier due to no wait. The cabane is spacious (looks like a summer camp chow hall). Our sever, Nancy, was very helpful and sweet, really trying to help our non French speaking American selves! The food comes in 3 courses. The largest being the second (pig!) course: who knew pig could be chopped up and served like 5 different ways all at once!?!? It was interesting and tasty, and A LOT of food for all of us. The maple themed petit dessert where a delightful hit! We never asked for seconds, and how was that possible? Plus my 4yr old toddlers didn't eat much, only 3 of 6 pea soups were given upon our request. We still took 4 boxes of leftovers home. When the bill came we were charged 2 toddler prices, a big kid price and 3 adult portions. Having worked in food service 25yrs ago, and we had "all you can eat" days, customers would come in and try to milk every dollar from that to "get their money's worth"....AND leave a terrible tip to go with their terrible attitude. Never good for business. So, I'm not sure what the total was, bc my hushand handled the bill this time, but I'm guessing $50pp x 6? And we left a 20% tip. Then we spent the next 90min enjoying the complimentary/included outdoor activies: little jungle gym, a big field to play ball, a small petting zoo, maple taffy over ice, lovely balloon art and face painting artists. It was a gorgeous sunny cool spring day. It was low key and no pressure to leave... all while country music was playing the whole time (and this city girl didn't mind!) My family left happy, and grateful for the memories made that we get to bring back to NYC. That's what mattered to us. Some critiques, like anywhere: .... not every worker was a joy (but most seemed cool), hubby and boys said their toilet area smelled worse than expected. Although the outdoor area was fun, it could have been a bit more "fleshed out" and organized. Maybe a mocked up demonstration of what it's like to tap a real maple tree? Or more like those Agritainment Farms we have in the northeast during apple picking season. I would recommend Sucrarie Bonaventure 100%, and use it has a base point for next year when we come back to try/compare other Sugar Shack venues.
