Where to Find Cheese Breads in Boston, From Pide to Khachapuri - Eater Boston

"Sufra’s choices for cheesy manousheh come with a particular kind of cheese called akkawi, which is a soft white brine cheese. Sufra’s egg and akkawi manousheh goes best with a freshly squeezed juice. It’s a truly perfect brunch. Sufra is open for takeout and delivery." - Karen Wilber

Working a quick 10 minute walk away from Sufra, I look FORWARD to every single shift I get at my job just for the opportunity to eat here. Even hours after my shift is over, hours after I’ve bought something from here, I look forward to eating my leftovers. Cold, warmed up, hot, the food here is absolutely amazing and the people here are incredibly kind and wonderful. The fresh juices here are to DIE for— get yourself a fresh orange juice and I promise you, you will think of it for the rest of the day until you get the chance to have another. Go to Sufra! Support this amazing business— take the time to walk there, to sit there, to eat there or eat out, I promise you, no part of you will regret it.

This place is amazing! My favorite dish is the chicken shawarma — it’s absolutely delicious! The staff are very friendly, helpful, and fast with their service. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for tasty and intermediate food! ✨✨

Google
The best Lebanese shawarma 🌯 in Boston!!! Seriously amazing, it made me and my friends tear up because of how much it reminded us of home. It doesn’t try to be complicated by adding a million condiments and wilted vegetables. They do the basics incredibly well, just juicy, flavorful chicken 🍗, a punch-you-in-the-face with its great flavor garlic aioli 🧄, and a toasted pita 🥙 that doesn’t tear or get too moist. The plate comes with a side of obviously hand-cut fries 🍟, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and giardiniera pickles 🥕🫑🌶️ (a popular side condiment in Lebanon) that adds acidity to the meal. It was literally a euphoric experience for me and my two friends as we took that first bite. Sufra has gained 3 loyal customers for life. Can’t wait to be back here and to go through the entire menu. If I can give this place 10 stars, I would ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Google
Place is easy to locate and reach. On Crowded street but welcome to Boston. It is not big from inside, they have couple of tables. I tried chicken shawerma. I can tell as someone who tried million times from the original source in Middle East, this one is very close and relatively to shawerma done in the US this is one of the best. Will try different stuff.

Google
Sufra Mediterranean is a fantastic spot for delicious halal food! The menu offers a great variety of flavorful dishes, and everything I’ve tried has been fresh and satisfying. One item you definitely shouldn’t miss is the chicken fries – they’re crispy, well-seasoned, and absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, and the staff is always friendly. Highly recommend for anyone looking for quality halal Mediterranean cuisine!

Google
Visiting Boston, stopped here for dinner. The place has a good vibe, looks trendy. My complaint is with the actual food. I ordered Arabi chicken shawarma (almost $18), and more than 50%of it was fries. Also the actual shawarma is the thinnest, should say super thinnest shawarma I have ever had. Not all was not sub-par, the shawarma tasted good.

Google
Really adorable little restaurant with a gorgeous lit patio and ramp access. The meat was very tasty, and I enjoyed the Eggs and Akkawi Cheese Manousheh. I didn’t like the hummus. It was missing some of the intense flavors I’ve come to appreciate in good hummus. Very bland. The staff were friendly. Parking is impossible here. It’s not a place to drive to.

Google
Best Lebanese-style shawarma I've had in Boston in over 4 years living here. I already know I'm going to become a loyal customer. Even though I was hesitant to try it before now because it's a bit nore expensive than I would like, I'm more than happy to pay a bit more knowing the food is going to be 5-stars.

Yelp
Food is tasty tasty. Manousheh and Shawerma are authentic and well prepared. Obvious everything is made to order and very fresh. The staff are also very friendly and patient. I'm a big fan and have never been disappointed. Bravo!

Yelp
Overall pretty consistent quality and a place I typically will order takeout or delivery from on the apps. It's a locally owned small business and they are clearly putting a good effort into making their food for Boston. If it's a late night and you are looking for some Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food this should be a hot contender. The wraps are delicious and creative featuring a homemade garlic sauce with some zest and generally tender chicken. Pickled peppers are also featured and really tie the wrap together well. The restaurant itself is fairly small and really designed to grab and go. If you happen to be in the area of Fenway and are looking for something quick but delicious this again is a top contender.

Yelp
Wow! This place is a hole in the wall. The food was absolutely amazing. There wasn't too much oil, and everything tasted fresh and clean. The employees were so kind and patient. We came in around 11pm, and there were 6 of us and the workers there handled our party with ease. They combined tables for us, and even squeezed out fresh orange juice for us. There's not bad to say about this gem. If you're in the area looking for some quality halal food then you must check out Sufra :)
google avatar

Rovingaile P.

Yelp
3.5/5! Flavor of chicken is good, but it was a bit too oily for me. I would also ask to get the sauce on the side since it was too much. Good to try once but not sure if I'd come back!
google avatar

Audra D.

Yelp
I just had the chicken shawarma wrap. Omg! It was so good!!!!! Definitely when I visit Boston again I will be stopping here for lunch!!!

Katie G.

Yelp
Visiting from Sacramento, Ca and we stopped here after walking through the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum. We got the S1 - Chicken Shawarma Wrap & the S4 - Falafel Wrap. The garlic sauce perfectly compliments the chicken, which is also cooked perfectly. The falafel was tender and well seasoned. I've never had a wrap with pickles in it but it I loved it!!
google avatar

Shahad A.

Yelp
I have just had the best chicken shawarma ever, I moved to Boston 2 weeks ago and already had this chicken shawarma 3 times now, so worth it! The service is fast, and prices is very good 12$ for a HUGE chicken shawarma sandwich! Definitely coming back!
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
A fast food shop yet has a couple of indoor tables and about 3-4 tables outdoor. We tried multiple items from the menu and everyone of them is excellent. Pretty authentic place. Service is great and the street it's on has a nice vibe. Good place to try out.

Yelp
My friend and I were craving Mediterranean food, so we decided to try Sufra - and it did not disappoint. Being from the Mediterranean myself, I am usually very critical of Mediterranean food, but this was truly amazing. Everything was so good, and I have to say the highlight of the meal was the baba ganoush and the shawarma. I had not had good shawarma in Boston until I tried Sufra's - it tasted so authentic and just like home! And the baba ganoush was to die for - the flavor was perfect. The staff are friendly, the food came quick, the portions are huge and the food is also decently priced. I had a very positive experience in Sufra - I will definitely be returning soon and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic Mediterranean meal.

Yelp
Food is Gas. Falafel plate was great with pickled veggies great hummus as well! Definitely recommend trying it out.
google avatar

Robert E.

Yelp
This place hit the spot. Authentic, good flavor and reasonable cost. I would definitely come back; we were hitting a late/light lunch. Chicken shawarma wrap for myself and falafel wrap for my wife. Definitely add the hot sauce.
google avatar

Erin R.

Yelp
Came here absolutely starving after visiting the Boston Fine Arts Museum, and thank goodness, because the portions here are huge! The falafel plate was exactly what I needed! The falafel was so so good. From what I could tell, it seems like Egyptian style falafel. I made my own little falafel wraps. The pita bread was fresh and perfect for making my wraps. I couldn't leave without trying the rice pudding. If you are a rose lover, you will love it! Rice pudding is so rare to find on a menu, so if you have never tried it, you should definitely give it a try here!

Yelp
Just what you want in Mediterranean food. Hummus was awesome- chicken shawarma wrap very good with tzatziki, pickles , and crispy seasoned chicken Great place convenient to the MFA - only a couple tables on cold days- so best for takeout.
google avatar

Yelp
I have to give this place a shoutout because I've ordered twice from here now and it has never disappointed. I ordered the cheezy burger, which I can confidently say is one of the best burgers I have had in Boston. I know this place specializes in Mediterranean food, not burgers, but I think it needs to be recognized for its delicious burgers and as this can only speak to how delicious and thorough their cooking is in general. The meat is seasoned to perfection, flavorful and juicy, and perfectly balanced by the sweet grilled onions and a generous amount of pickles. The burger comes served with fries and an amazing homemade mayo-ketchup-esque sauce. Food is ready fast and the staff is super nice, all around a great place.
google avatar

Maryam M.

Yelp
They've really jacked up the prices and unfortunately the quality of the food hasn't kept up. The Philly steak sandwich was my favorite which but the steak is now chewy and the mushrooms burnt. They used to make real potato thick cut French fries, another great dish that now seems to be a sad version of McDonalds fries.
google avatar

Abby K.

Yelp
Amazing, quick and tasty spot! Easily some of the best falafel I have had, not super dry and packed with flavor. All the flavors worked very nicely together and my group and I were all very satisfied with our meals. The server was very friendly as well! Great spot to visit if in the area.
google avatar

Caroline K.

Yelp
We went to Sufra for a bite to eat before hitting the museum of fine arts, and were not disappointed! I ordered a falafel wrap, and since I have a sesame allergy, I had to request it without tahini, which the employees were extremely considerate and caring about. The wrap was delicious-easily the best falafel I have ever had. Moist, flavorful, and just perfect! The outdoor dining is very pleasant, and nice to sit at during the summer months. Sufra had all that I could've wanted :)

Martin R.

Yelp
Great food but takes absolutely forever to get your food ready. No trashcan for some reason so a lot of people would leave trash behind in the area.
google avatar

Yi H.

Yelp
Straightforward place with delicious food! During the summer they have tables outside but now that it's colder they only have two small tables inside. I always get dine in and order ahead on their app. My favorite is their baba ganoush which has pomegranates on it! Their falafels are very moist inside but crispy outside. The flatbreads are like pizzas, they are a little oily for me but tastes good. Chicken wrap is also very tasty.
google avatar

Daniel M.

Yelp
I was looking for a Mediterranean style restaurant, but I guess this is more like a street food shwarma place. It was OK, but not exactly what I was looking for.
google avatar

Bill G.

Yelp
Get the wraps, they are much better balanced than the plates. The shawarma wrap had generous portions and a well-paired garlic sauce. The falafel plate was a bit of a disappointment---the falafel were dry and a bit generic. Hummus was okay but not amazing. Service and prices were both excellent, and I super appreciate that they are open late
google avatar

Allison M.

Yelp
Came here for a late lunch and weren't disappointed. We ordered two manaqeesh (manousheh), one zaatar + cheese and one egg + cheese. Both were amazing. I couldn't stop myself from eating the whole (huge) thing. Which was too bad because we also ordered hummus, and I hardly had room to eat it. But that was fantastic too. I've lived in Jordan off and on for many years and it's rare to find Mediterranean/Arabic food in the US that comes close. Sufra is some of the best I've had!

Ashley K.

Yelp
highly recommend if you need an easy meal! the chicken shawarma wrap is so good here garlic sauce slaps
google avatar

Manish B.

Yelp
Had chicken on rice and unfortunately was very underwhelming. The rice was plain (no flavor). The chicken shawarma was very dry. They literally charge for everything!!! Who charges for sauce? First and last time!
google avatar

Brian C.

Yelp
Super friendly and they were able to take an order for me after landing close to midnight in Boston. Was still packed outside and people were getting takeout, so clearly still popular. Also, I think their kibbeh is back? They stopped selling it back when I moved out of Boston last year, but it's on the menu again (definitely should have gotten it).
google avatar

Krystle T.

Yelp
I am a sucker for mediterranean food. I love it, but this place truly disappointed! Food: Ariba Supreme Chicken Shwarma plate $15 - this was literally fried chicken strips, cheese, french fries wrapped in a tortilla. Served atop soggy french fries which were called "Fresh fries" on the doordash menu Safehat Lahem $10 - This was not very good. Ended up being quite soggy except for the edges. Overall, if you're looking for good mediterranean food, this is not the place to go.

Stroud C.

Yelp
Sufra is straight gasolina. If you're in Fenway, this place should be on your list directly after seeing the ballpark. Great Shawarma. Recommend the Supreme with hot sauce. Side of rice optional. Thank me later.

Farah A.

Yelp
Very good food Chicken Zinger was tasty and delicious but itChicken WrapChicks BurgerFalafel Sandwiches

Kris T.

Yelp
Fresh and fabulous! Stopped here after the MFA. Small place with little indoor seating, but lots outside and nice atmosphere. We ordered chicken Shwarma and falafel platter. Chicken was tender, falafel was crisp on outside and tender inside.

Vanessa S.

Yelp
I love the food, it always fresh and delicious. Although it's a small place and they have limited tables. The restaurant looks like clean always! I recommend it!
google avatar

Chirag P.

Yelp
Figured I'd give this a shot since the reviews are all 5 stars, except for that one review complaining about the size of his Sharwarma. Now granted, he's right, it is a small Shawarma, there is no lettuce and tomato (and thats how its advertised, so i don't quite understand that complaint) and not much pickles, but how much pickles do you really want in a Shawarma? I'm glad they don't put that much, and just enough to add tangy flavor. Where this Shawarma shines is it reminds me of Shawarma's I would get at cafe's when visiting Dubai. Good amount of chicken actually, its deceptive because its wrapped in a tortilla like bread instead of a pita, but theres a good amount of chicken in them. Don't get this though if you're looking for something with Vegetables. And here's the key: AUTHENTICATELY SEASONED! The flavor in this chicken is spot on you can taste the spices in the chicken with every bite! I've ordered many places in Boston that serve Shawarma, most try to cover up the chicken flavor with sauces, excess toppings...not this place! And the fries, these were delivery fries and they ended up still arriving crispy. True it is expensive for what it is. But whatever, it tastes good and they've just made me a regular, thank you Sufra for the wonderful food! I hope your business stays open and survives during these COVID times.
google avatar

Briar L.

Yelp
Stopped here just now as it's one of the few places open (and able to order online). Not disappointed in any way with the shawarma wraps I just got. Perfectly seasoned, perfectly crunchy. Banana milkshake is like drinking liquid banana, so refreshing.
google avatar

Della S.

Yelp
Placed a pickup order on a weekday and the order was already waiting for me even though I arrived slightly earlier than the time window I was given. I've yet to try their main entrees but I enjoyed their manousheh. I ordered the jibneh bel zaatar manousheh. They were generous with the zaatar and the thick layer of melted cheese was great! The bread was pillowy soft. The manousheh is about the size of a personal pizza and is great for sharing, as a light meal, or as a snack! I also tried their hummus. It was super creamy and wasn't too sour. They topped it with a decent amount of olive oil and the extra chickpeas on top were a nice contrasting texture. My order also came with a cup of sauce. I've never had anything like it, but it seemed like a mixture of finely chopped pickles and spicy peppers in lemon juice? It was very fragrant but very sour! I didn't particularly care for it with the hummus or manousheh, but I could see it pairing well with other dishes.

Vlad W.

Yelp
Mediterranean chicken ... breaded and deep fried to death. Do people even look up definition of "Mediterranean food" and recipes? This is bad version of Popeyes.
google avatar

Monica K.

Yelp
Very cute, clean, modern place, for take out mainly. They have a few tables and chairs outside. The Chicken shawarma was good, had the perfect amount of tasty lemony sauce but meat was little dry, falafel wrap and kibbeh could use some more seasoning but were pretty good. My fave was the fresh Strawberry drink wich was more like a dessert being sweeter than expected, but soo good! Service was very good.
google avatar

Helena Q.

Yelp
Solid food, excellent service, and easier ordering via an app in store. (Apparently if you order in advance instead of in the store, you get a discount on your first order!) Arabi Supreme Chicken Shawarma Plate (13.5$+tax+tip) had kind of dry chunks of chicken, and weren't super flavorful. However, the fries were excellent and crisp! As were the pickles and the sauce. Falafel Plate (12$+tax+tip) had decent hummus and kinda dry falafel. Jibneh Bel Zataar (6.5$+tax+tip) -- I think the jibneh side was much tastier than the zataar side, which surprised me considering how much I like zataar! A satisfying side dish.
google avatar

Zachary P.

Yelp
This restaurant us ok know of the very best restaurants I have eaten at at Boston! The service is always so kind and considerate and the food is amazing. The cute Mediterranean decor and quant space makes you feel at home!
google avatar

Meghan M.

Yelp
I got a good ol' order of shawarma (just the sandwich) and it was perfect. Not too big, just enough pickles, and that garlic sauce...YES PLEASE! Awesome quick and easy dinner for one, that's for sure. I tossed in a side of grape leaves as well...pretty good but not on the same level as the sandwich IMHO. Will definitely order again!
google avatar

Eileen C.

Yelp
I want to give a special shout out to Sufra Mediterranean Food today. My friend and I came by for lunch, and the service there was incredible. Their COVID-19 protocols were really solid. They offered kiosks at the front of the restaurant for ordering and everyone working in the restaurant were wearing masks. They have a charming outdoor seating area in front of the restaurant and my friend and I were able to sit and chat comfortably without worrying about the risk of being indoors. We had the chicken shawarma and falafel sandwiches and they were really tasty. We both ordered the lemonade with mint, as the weather was nearing 90 degrees. The drinks were unique and refreshing. Here's where Sufra went above and beyond. Our drinks were getting toasty, so we asked if we might be able to get a cup of ice to cool them down. As their ice machine was still in the process of making ice, they went out and got a couple of bags of ice so that we could have ice right away. Their hospitality was much appreciated and I can't recommend the place more highly!

Tess S.

Yelp
The chicken shawarma wrap is really good! Fries are okay. I would definitely come back to get that sandwich again and try other dishes
google avatar

Sohan D.

Yelp
The chicken shawarma is alright. I prefer the one with the split thin khubz with French fries and tangy garlic sauce and pickles, in Lebanese style. But perhaps others like this style. This appears to use some kind of single-layer saj-type bread. Falafel is alright too. Where this place really shines is the mezzes, especially the dips. Excellent, authentic hummus, ground beef and hummus, labneh, labneh mshatshta, mutabbal/babaghanouj. A bit on the pricey side, considering they don't come with pita (this is not indicated, and you have to order it as an add-on; even then, you only get one pita per tub, requiring ordering another pita separately). So, yeah, I'd definitely recommend the mezzes, at least. Side note: looking at the sandwich menu, I detect strong Dubai vibes from this place.
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
Definitely not worth a $16 dollar salad for just basic lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and some falafel....not authentic

Rana A.

Yelp
Food is great, fresh and good portion. But don't order online from Grubhub. It charges double the price.
google avatar

K. E.

Yelp
Been searching high and low for decent shawarma in Boston for years, so I'm not sure how I've missed this place for the past year and a half. The first things you notice are the super nice interior decor and the cleanliness... A+. And the outdoor seating area looks inviting. The food is very high quality and a great value - about $12 for a shawarma wrap with fries. The garlic sauce is addictive. You've been warned. The shawarma is a bit westernized, but it's great we'll definitely be back for more. The fresh juices, $6-$7, are awesome - thick, not watered down, and not too sweet. Probably a fair price for a drink like this. We tried the strawberry and loved it. Really great job, and I seriously can't wait to try their manaeesh and their specials (kabsa and mansaf!!!).

Angelina R.

Yelp
Overpriced and underwhelming, especially for food with hair in it. This was found after quite a few bites, waste of $ and lacking to begin with. Just lettuce, cucumber, tomato and chicken

Siri Z.

Yelp
good vibes, bad food. this was the first time in my life that i've had hummus that wasn't good... and that's coming from someone who enjoys sabra. falafel plate was disappointing for the price, chicken was dry and bland. the garlic sauce carried.

Christian D.

Yelp
Delicious schwarma, friendly staff, had ordered lamb pie, lamb schwarma sandwhich, and good food
google avatar

Daniel M.

Yelp
This is a really good place to get tasty Mediterranean food. They have the best meals and the best humus. Would definitely recommend Sufra and will definitely be back.
google avatar

Kasem W.

Yelp
The food is very good but unfortunately the portions are small. Definitely try their chicken zinger, chicken shawarma, and any of their Safehats. Burger is also The bread in which they wrap their sandwich is also very good.
