Šug is a fantastic restaurant showcasing the best of Croatian cuisine. The ambience is lovely both indoors and outdoors, with a relaxed but refined atmosphere, and the service was excellent throughout.
The food is outstanding. The steak tartare appetizer was absolutely delicious (though quite a large portion for one person), and the octopus main course was a real highlight — perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. The homemade bread was also excellent, but the portion was generous enough for a table to share, so something to keep in mind if you’re dining solo. Overall, the portions are very generous, which is wonderful if you’re in a group but can make it tricky to sample multiple dishes when eating alone.
Another highlight is the wine list — all Croatian selections, very reasonably priced, with many options by the glass. It was a great way to taste a few local vineyards alongside the meal.
Overall, a fantastic experience: delicious food, great wines, excellent service, and a welcoming atmosphere. A must-visit in Split!
