This is a great spot with delicious food. Everything we ate was delicious. The Bread Pudding French toast was yummy! The place is dog friendly (outside patio) and they have a good portion shredded chicken for the dogs. The service was good up until the end when we wanted to get things boxed and pay the bill.

As the name suggests, Sugar and Scribe leans heavily on the sweet side. I ordered an oat milk latte that came sweetened by default, even though I didn’t request sugar so I’d recommend asking for no added sugar in advance if you prefer it less sweet. The bread pudding French toast was rich and flavorful, though definitely a large portion, best shared! My husband got the shakshuka without egg (he’s vegetarian), which was okay. They don’t offer dedicated vegetarian options, but the kitchen is accommodating and can modify dishes to exclude eggs or meat, which is helpful to keep in mind. The ambience is cute, the staff is friendly, and the wait time was reasonable. Overall, it’s a cozy spot for a sweet brunch, just be mindful of how sugary things can get.

This restaurant is AMAZING! The food was delicious, service fast, and ambiance super cute and fun. Kids will love this place, as will families and couples looking for a tasty breakfast in a modern playful atmosphere. My partner and I went around 9:30am on a Monday, which is possibly why we received such quick service — the food came out in <10 minutes after we ordered. We sat outside, which was a bit chilly but cozy as they had the heaters on. The menu is impressive and has loads of options. I got the lobster Benedict, and my partner got a spicy meat skillet thing. We also got the turmeric and blue moon lattes. Highly recommend all of these things! The store inside is also really cute! The pastries tasted good and are the prettiest I’ve ever seen (and I’ve had many pastries in my life)! I also highly recommend the delicious lemon macarons. I’ll for sure be coming back during my next visit to San Diego and will be recommending S&S to others!

My third visit and still a charm,in fact got better! The owner was decorating herself for Easter and had a pleasure to have a quick chat as she wore a Pug t shirt, she shared they have some hidden pug mementos around some of which I could quickly filter! Food, service and ambience at 💯 as always, quality unmatched and perfection on flavors! I have always loved their in house bread!!! The oat meal latte was too good and even the servers were prompt and paid proactive attention! We had a pleasant day overall as the vibe was set right! Let the crowd/queue not dissuade you, Its worth the wait!!!

It was an absolute treat! The interiors were adorable, with a pink aesthetic and beautiful floral decor that made the whole place feel warm and inviting. The menu had a great selection of breakfast items and pastries. I tried the French Toast and the Eggs Benedict—both were delicious! The French Toast was perfectly fluffy and just the right amount of sweet, while the Benedict had a rich, flavorful hollandaise sauce. Overall, it’s a great spot for a cozy breakfast or brunch. If you love cute cafes with a lovely ambiance and tasty food, this place is definitely worth a visit!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Sugar and Scribes, and it was an absolute delight! This charming breakfast spot never fails to impress with its delicious offerings. I ordered the Corned Beef Skillet, and it was bursting with flavor — the perfect combination of savory corned beef, tender potatoes, and fresh veggies. Each bite was a comforting experience that left me wanting more. To top it all off, I couldn't resist trying their Lemon Curd Pancakes. Wow! These pancakes were perfectly fluffy and had just the right amount of tartness from the lemon curd, creating a balance that was simply divine. It’s no wonder this place is a favorite of mine! The service was friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. If you’re looking for a fantastic breakfast spot with delicious food, I highly recommend Sugar and Scribes. You won’t be disappointed!

This place is a brunch goers dream!! Decor is very floral and stylish. Servers are so kind and the food tastes just as amazing as it looks. We went as a group of 5 and one of my friends was on a scooter and they sat us by a table with a ramp for easy access which we really appreciated! I definitely recommend the Naughty Skillet or the Bread Pudding French Toast!! Nice spiciness on the skillet and for the French toast, all the toppings come on the side so you can customize it yourself! Parking can be a bit difficult to find but OMG everyone needs to try this place out!! 10/10

Wow!! Our second Easter Sunday here. We love the diverse menu, but to be sure, It’s only lunch brunch and breakfast. They do have a bar, but I’m not sure how extensive it is. We love these dishes, but we have to say it’s probably better to come here when it isn’t Easter Sunday. The service would definitely be a lot faster. We got the blueberry love, pancakes, but I like the lemon curd ones better. The blueberry was just with the table wanted and we split it four ways. I got the salad, which was pretty good but Any place in La Jolla serving a salad ought to be able to do a good job. I think the lobster roll was excellent and the bagels and lox tray was pretty good too. Everyone was super happy. As for the environment or atmosphere, they have a whole lot of outdoor seating, and really nice gazebo, they have indoor seating and it’s just a great corner spot at Line and I don’t know you’ll have to look it up. Ha ha ha.😃 They don’t take reservations, but the wait time isn’t terrible and their places to sit outside. Dogs are welcome outside only. They have a great bakery and fantastic cakes and really great signature coffees. Highly recommend any of the hot coffee or cold coffee drinks. Love the bakery items here and they’re obviously made with so much care, professionalism, craftiness, and our super delicious. I’d say it’s worth the drive even if you’re coming away from La Jolla. Good luck on parking but even Easter Sunday. I didn’t have a hard time. I just love this place and I hope it’s here forever.

Yelp
Wait time was about 30mins-45mins and this was around 11am on a Saturday so keep that in mind. We walked up to put our name on the list. Cool thing is that they have a small bakery you can check out while you wait, we got a danish and coffee as an "appetizer" while we waited to get seated since they have some nice outdoor seating. It seems to be dog friendly as well so another perk! You can be seated indoors or outdoors, we got seated inside next to the window. They brought a pitcher of water for us and came shortly to see if we needed to drink anything. We actually were ready to order so we placed it right away as well. Food all tasted amazing, great quality, presentation was great, and even the time it took to come out was quickly when they are so busy, server was friendly and helpful. Good service and good food are a great combination. Overall I would recommend it as a great brunch place and would gladly come here again!

Yelp
Really pretty place to get breakfast/brunch. They have a large patio area where it seemed like most people were being seated. There's also a little bakery area in the inside where they had a lot of pastries and other sweet treats, candles, etc. I came here on a Sunday morning and although there was a lot of people waiting outside the wait to be seated wasn't too long. Upon signing in, the estimated wait time was about 30-35 minutes, but my party was able to get seated in about 10 minutes after putting our name down. I started off with the cupcake latte. It was really pretty with the whipped cream, marshmallows, and edible glitter. It was a fun drink to drink. For entrees, we ordered the bread pudding French toast, eggs Benedict, smothered and covered skillet, and the corned beef skillet. One thing that really stood out to me was their potatoes. I was expecting the typical country style potatoes with my food, but these were scalloped and I really enjoyed them.

Yelp
This spot is absolutely adorable spot for a brunch. The hostess was probably the most welcoming and helpful person that I interacted with. I had the lavender lemonade and the lobster benedict. The lemonade was bright, fresh, and wasn't overwhelmed by the lavender. The lobster benedict was a pure sin. Buttery and creamy, had a good amount of lobster with the bright arugula on the toasted english muffin. The only reason this was not a 5-star review was that my server only came over once. She got my order and never returned. I will saw it was a Saturday morning and busy but I felt since I was by myself, I was an afterthought for service.

Yelp
One word simply: BOMB. Pictures really speak for themselves. I can't wait to come back. This place is the cutest with very pretty decor and the staff is great.

Yelp
I can't pass up a good bakery that also makes pancakes and French toast (what is breakfast if not an excuse to start the day with dessert?). The bread pudding french toast was calling my name (and it seems to be one of the most popular dishes) - you get three slices along with an assortment of toppings on the side: banana slices, caramel sauce, pecans, whipped cream, and maple syrup. I tried a few bites of the toast by itself and it was somewhat plain, but the toppings really take it to the next level (especially the caramel!). Because I arrived pretty early on a Saturday (before 9am), I was able to get a seat quickly - but the restaurant was definitely already busy! They don't take reservations, so either plan to get in before the brunch rush or face a potential wait. The seating area was a nice quaint slice of La Jolla Village and felt like the reception at an outdoor wedding. I really appreciated the green space! While the food was good, it was also a tad pricey, and the portion size seemed smaller than what you'd find elsewhere at a similar price point. But come here and you'll find plenty of inventive dishes done well - I'd definitely like to return and try a savory dish with one of their over-the-top hot chocolates!

Yelp
The croissants were sooo good! I got the raspberry and my husband got the horchata. They both had a lot of filling. The croissant was a great crispness. My husband also got the blueberry pancakes and enjoyed them. My sourdough was delicious. I also loved the potatoes. I'll definitely be back for more croissants. The decor was also super cute

Yelp
Cookies and Cream Cake - This is their bestseller. I was expecting something exceptional since the chef was a Food Network Holiday Baking Champion. The cake was visually beautiful, but it was dense and didn't taste fresh. It was not light, fluffy and moist. I thought the ratio of frosting to cake was not balanced. There was a lot of frosting between the layers of cake. Lobster Benedict- This was beautifully plated which made the food inviting to eat. The benedict was rich , creamy and tangy. I chose potatoes as my side dish and these were delicious-well cooked and not overly seasoned. House Coffee - They serve Dark Horse Coffee which is a San Diego based roaster. The coffee was a medium roast that was full bodied and easy to drink. Service - Friendly, attentive and quick. Keep in mind, it was a Wednesday morning at 9 am. The restaurant wasn't full. Ambiance - The outdoor patio was pleasant and comfortable. Their bakeshop was fun and cute.

Yelp
Let me say, I love the decor and dish/silverware and the whole vibe of Sugar and Scribe. I was less impressed with the food. I went there as a friend who was dying to try it. She ordered the corn beef hash was not very traditional. It was sliced potatoes and chunk of real corn beef. That was fine, but it was topped with a rich sauce that distracted from the dish and made it unappetizing. It wasn't my dish but I would not have eaten it. I ordered the sausage rolls, which were served in puffed pastry. It clearly said they were Irish sausage which after I ordered and took a bit realized, I didn't like the sausage in UK. I ordered them with a side of cheese scrambled eggs which came caked with sprinkled cheese on top. So needless to say, I did not enjoy my meal. It could have been my choices but with so many good breakfast places out there, I am not eager to go back to try again.

Yelp
I recently visited Sugar and Scribe and, despite the long line, we were seated much sooner than expected, just 15 minutes instead of the 30 minute estimate, which was a pleasant surprise. However, we were seated in a corner near stairs and next to some artificial flowers not knowing this was not the pleasant surprise. As soon as we sat down, I noticed a strong smell of urine when the wind would hit and we both realized there were about 25 flies swarming around the flowers. I switched chairs to be farther from it. While this wasn't the server's fault, the unpleasant smell and constant swiping at flies made it difficult to enjoy our meal. We tried to make the best of it and ordered a glitter mimosa and a Viennese latte; both were delicious. Our food, the chilaquiles and crispy chicken eggs Benedict, was also excellent with standout flavors, we were forced to eat our food quickly to try to get out of there. Unfortunately, the odor and flies became overwhelming. We asked for boxes and the check so we could leave quickly, taking turns going into the bakery for fresh air. Despite these issues, our server was fantastic and very attentive. Again- we were extremely patient and tolerant for such an unpleasant experience. Before leaving, I approached an older woman who was moving tables and setting up additional chairs near this problematic area. When I asked if she was the manager, she responded, "sort of." I explained the issue, mentioning, "I don't think you can sit anyone there; the urine smell is horrible, and the flies are everywhere." She explained they had recently changed the Astro turf, poured lavender oil on the fake flowers, and seemed overly explaining, saying they didn't know what else to do. She suggested we "come back when the turf is gone," but as I relayed to her, they really shouldn't seat people there, I was given a smile and completely ignored. To our surprise, she continued setting up the table we had just vacated for more guests. Her response felt completely irresponsible and lacking in customer service. Essentially, the representative/ "Manager" at Sugar and Scribe ignored our pleas and decided to willingly seat us and others customers there, knowing we would all smell urine the entire meal, this seems highly irresponsible as a restaurant. Her apology seemed more like she was unable to hear me or listen to and was instead had the intentions of seeking pity for her efforts to the construction work they've done rather than showing any genuine concern for our experience. It felt tone deaf, irresponsible, and greedy. I felt like we were being punished for being SOOOOO patient with sitting there and to be given a smile and bandaid apology of "sorry we tried to fix it" upon exiting was not appropriate. The response did nothing to mend improve our experience; in fact, it made it far worse. There were zero efforts made without any concern for our comfort. That table should NOT be there, and they should have more regard for their customers' experiences versus filling a seat. This place is BUSY, we would have waited the full 30 minutes or more for the bare minimum of a dining experience- NOT eating next to strong urine smells and using a hand to swap flies for an hour. There are several brunch places to try in La Jolla, and we regret choosing this one. While the food and drinks and service from our male server were excellent, the customer service from the "manager" was the worst I've ever encountered from anyone in the restaurant industry. It showed a complete lack of regard for customers and was handled poorly by knowingly allowing us to have such an unpleasant experience and then expecting pity for her lengthy list of efforts instead of doing or saying anything to improve the situation for US. It was pretty embarrassing and was really bad on her part. Overall, I think we unfairly put up with far more than anyone else would have, and I was just trying to look out for future customers. The manager's response was the final straw; it truly made for an awful dining experience, it's pretty unacceptable.

Yelp
Had brunch here on a Friday with my bestie and it was great. We were seated outside. The floral decor hanging from the ceiling and along the fence was so girly and pretty. The tables were a little too close to one another for my liking, but I get it. They need to make use of every inch here. We found street parking close by and walked over, but I can imagine parking is scarce on busier days like the weekend. For drinks, I got the iced blue moon latte and could barely taste the espresso, probably wouldn't get it again. For food, I got the crabby royale benedict. 10/10, the best crabcake benedict I've ever had. Loved the spicy hollandaise on top of the poached egg. The crabcake itself was a pretty good size too. For the side you could choose between a salad or potatoes. I got the potatoes which was cooked perfectly. My bestie got the bread pudding french toast. She said it was good, but not the best she's ever had. I didn't get a chance to try it, but it did look good. I'd definitely come back again to try some other items on the menu.

Yelp
Ok. I think this place got better. My favorite brunch place in San Diego has always beens Sugar and Scribe because of their immaculate egg benedicts, but wow. How... did it get better..? The ambiance of the place changed where I think they made their theme more princess-y/barbie/mermaid-y. They've become more pink than the last time I've come here. It was cute. The service was good. They were busy but efficient, which is literally my type of people. 100% recommend. Had an amazing time. I'm so glad I took my family from Korea to this place. They loved it as well

Yelp
The simple pleasures of a girly brunch... this place made my friend and I very happy! The interior is gorgeous, surrounded with flowers & greenery. There was a bit of a wait, but we were encouraged to grab a coffee inside while we waited. We were very entertained just browsing all the treats they offer while sipping our coffees. Spicy Shashuka - from my experience, not many popular brunch spots offer spicy Shashuka so I was thrilled to see this on the menu!!! It was DELICIOUS and I would order again Blueberry Love Pancakes - the lemon curd pancakes were so soft, I could've eaten them by themselves. The blueberry compote paired well with the lemon in the pancakes. The only downside was the vanilla bean whipped cream that was too sweet for my liking. I still loved this plate & next time I will just order with no whip My friend also really enjoyed her crab cake salad. The service here was quick & attentive! Overall lovely brunch

Yelp
Ray was extremely professional, and meticulous in our custom cake order and even upgraded the cake size when the decorations as a agreed on didn't work aesthetically. Awesome experience.

Yelp
Sugar and Scribe is the most aesthetically pleasing brunch spot I have ever had the honor of dining at! Flower wallpaper coupled with pops of pink and foliage lighten the mood and make you feel removed from the hustle and bustle of the neighborhood. We ordered the crab cake benedict, shrimp and grits, and a mango lemonade. Pleasantly surprised at how it came out a short 10 minutes after ordering. Everything was so good, and the portions were just right! To top it off, our server was very attentive and checked in on us every 5-7 minutes. The inside of the restaurant is only for to-go orders and shopping around their little cafe. I would most definitely recommend this spot for a place to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee and people watch, or to have brunch.

Yelp
Yum! The corned beef hash was SO GOOD. The beef was tender and not fatty at all, and I loved the crispy potato. The food was brought out so fast. Also super cute decor.

Yelp
Dined here for a late brunch on a Friday around 1 pm. There was no wait time which was nice. It's across from the Blue Whale and The Cottage which I can imagine creates some competition. Food 3.5/5 Ordered the Benedict and the bread pudding French toast. Also got iced matcha and added lavender syrup since it's not sweetened and hot house coffee. The Benedict was your average Benedict. No special sauce or anything but it was good for a simple dish. The French toast sounded more exciting than it was. All the toppings were on the side which was nice but also wish it wasn't on the side? I'm on the fence about whether I liked it on the side. It was also a small portion and not enough for one person. The color of the matcha was light and milky but the coffee was good and comes with refills. Service 2/5 Everyone from the hostess to the servers were nice. However, service could improve. They brought out the water pitcher and no glasses. Food came out but we had no plates. Then they brought dirty plates that had pieces of egg stuck to them. We also found a strand of hair stuck deep in the straw that I had to pull out. It wasn't mine or my partner's because it was half blonde/grey. When we shared this issue with the server, he offered to take the drink off our bill which was nice. Ambiance 3/5 We were seated outside and although it was a hot day, it didn't bother us. However, what did bother us was being seated at the end of the patio near a back gate so people constantly opened the gate and passed right by us. Price 5/5 I think prices are fair for La Jolla. Overall I don't regret trying this place but probably wouldn't come back.

Yelp
A fantastic brunch choice in La Jolla! It can be quite busy during the weekends, we came around 11:30am on a Saturday, and our wait time was 35 minutes. My friends and I were able to walk along the area to make the time pass by. They have tons of outdoor seating, and we were expecting sunny weather but definitely got some marine layer gloom that day. The place is very nicely decorated with lots of florals, and they had very cute dishware, overall it is quite aesthetic! They have a ton of classic brunch dishes like pancakes, benedicts, skillets, and scrambles - so many of them looked like they had unique flavors. I ordered the Spicy Crispy Clucker Benedict because it sounded like a creative benedict dish, and it was excellent! The fried chicken and the chipotle hollandaise had great flavor. The english muffin was surprisingly soft. I ordered potatoes alongside with it, which are not like traditional breakfast potatoes, but soft scalloped potatoes. My friends got the Southern Love (really yummy cheesy grits and large shrimp!) and Kensington Benedict (a more fresh benedict with smoked salmon). Overall we all enjoyed our dishes! We were also eyeing the Naughty Skillet - so we'll have to try that next time!

Yelp
Lovely lovely brunch! The place is stunning. The food was good, a tad overpriced for what ya get but it's the experience you pay for. The little bakery stuff looked delicious. The manager overheard my bff just got married and gave her a little gift bag!! It was the sweetest thing

Yelp
It's been a while since I visited La Jolla and found a delicious restaurant. There was a famous brunch restaurant around this restaurant and there were many places to go, but I decided to eat here, which is the hottest place these days. It was a shame that I didn't have time to eat leisurely because I arrived before the restaurant closed. If I have a chance next time, I want to go back and enjoy it.

Yelp
Highly recommend this spot for breakfast. Walked up and was greeted immediately. Sat down in a beautiful atmosphere with flowers and decorations. Server was extremely nice and helpful. Everything we ordered was delicious. The chilaquiles were amazing and the blueberry pancake was beautiful and tasty. Perfect start to our morning!

Yelp
Mediocre execution on food. Like many restaurants in SD, this place has charm and nice decor but food that's just ok or even poor. The menu seemed promising but our meals were disappointing. First up the corned beef hash. While the corned beef was good, it was sitting in a skillet full of potatoes drowning in grease. The eggs were cold and that cream sauce was not only bad tasting but cold as well. That sauce is not needed. We also ordered the Irish sausages with eggs. The Irish sausages were good (think British pasty) but the execution on the eggs was bad- how do you mess up eggs? I suggest they sell these sausages wrapped in pastry be sold as a side as they were delicious. The pancake- dense, not fluffy and no flavor. Worse yet, the maple syrup had no maple flavor- it was just a sugar syrup (please resource this). The hot chocolate was good, I added a shot of espresso. Tables around us ordered pastries and those looked good. Service was ok. Our server was nice and did the best he could but he had a lot of tables to attend to so we often had to flag him down for something. Other than the Irish sausages nothing else was decent so I'm not sure I want to explore the menu further. I certainly wouldn't recommend what we had.

Yelp
QUICKIE REVIEW Get here early to get access to everything. FOOD This is what I tried: -Regular benedict with bacon -Kensington Benedict Of the two benedicts, have to love the flavor smokiness of the salmon brings. Mix it with a bit of everything and it's a nice treat. That is not to say the regular benedict wasn't welcomed. There's bacon in it, need I say more? Potatoes that come with the meals are ok. Add a little salt and pepper to kick it up a notch. PARKING Street parking. SERVICE Waiter was being over ran this particular Sunday. That man was virtually running non stop. PRICE Expect to pay around $60 for two. TIP/OTHER THOUGHTS Showed up here around 10 on Sunday and there was roughly an hour-long line. Went to see the bakery inside and almost all the goods were sold out. Would love to come here again but earlier so I am able to try a bit of everything they have to offer. Ambiance wise, the layout, utensils and plate were all cool. Felt upscale even though we were eating outside in a tent.

Yelp
Food is good and looked cute. Server was very nice! Patio area was nice and spacious offering a great place to sit and eat. Food also came out fast.

Yelp
Pretty darn good. I'd feel confident bringing someone here.* All the food was excellent. Their outdoor patio is quite lovely. *The service left a lot to be desired. Our server didn't check in on us so it was difficult to get more water, takeaway boxes, a plate, etc. If it weren't for how much we liked the food I'd give them a lower rating.

Yelp
Fiancé and I had a very rare non holiday weekday off where we were both free for brunch. We got here around 11:30am on a Wednesday. I was recommended this place and told to be patient. Lo and behold come on a weekday brunch time because there was ZERO wait time. We even got a 4 seater table because all their two seaters were full. It def was their rush hour, but nothing like SD type brunch on a Saturday or Sunday. I had very low expectations because I've seen other friends incl the one who recommended the place and the food looked aesthetically pleasing. The dishes looked extravagant; good for the gram type of vibes. Boy was I wrong. This place is soooooo good! You cannot go wrong with their sour dough. I wish I was able to take home a loaf! I got the corned beef hash and was pretty impressed. They use scalloped potatoes and have the corn beef and onions on top and then their white sauce. I am very judgmental on corn beef with potatoes because I feel most places give more potato than corned beef or the corn beef is no good, too oily, etc. I'm a go big or go home type of person. It was a rare day to have brunch on a random Wednesday. So I decided to give it a go. A M A Z I NG is an understatement. Used the sourdough to pick up the liquid gold when I started eating through my skillet. Again. The sourdough was an awesome pairing for sure. Portion to pricing was very fair. A tad big more expensive, but nothing crazy. I was shocked their special hot chocolates start at like $8. That's not bad at all. Seeing some of my friend's pictures, I was expecting double digits. It also had a very Bridgerton-y vibe. At least IMHO. I'd 10000% come back to try other things on their menu. But good to know their skillets are bomb. My fiancé had the smothered skillet and I almost regretted it when I tried his first. He ended up liking what I got. But both were pretty good. I will say, idk if it's worth an hour wait. I'd rather come during a non weekday and really enjoy my time with good company to enjoy good food. Also FYI, everything is pretty close together like the tables. So it's very easy to hear convos from other tables esp if they're super loud. Also, parking in this area is tough too. Finding free parking is hard in this area. But if you're willing to do it, go for it.

Yelp
Coming from the east coast, I'm picky about my crab cakes and their crab benny did not disappoint. The crab cake was seasoned well, shaped and baked or fried, not mushy in texture or bland like some other places. It was neatly made and stayed on the house made English muffin, lots of creamy avocado slides w/ a seasoned hollandaise. Their shakshuka was spot on-tomatoey, lots of feta, and the thick bread held up to the sauce dipping well. We also ordered the scotch egg w/ chicken sausage and a gravy on the side that was on the sweeter side to balance the saltiness of the egg. Everything here was executed well. Service was attentive and food came out fast. Loved the ambiance and decor, pretty tea cups and flatware.

Yelp
We have dined at Sugar & Scribe twice is the last few months, and it was well worth the drive down (from Ontario) here both times! For both visits, we were seated in their outdoor patio adjacent to the parking lot. The decor was elegant with faux flowers and vines hanging above to make it feel like you're dining in a garden. On our first visit on April 20th, 2024, we waited about 30 minutes for a table for our party of 3. I ordered the corned beef skillet and my wife ordered the buttered lobster benedict. On our second visit on June 23, 2024, we waited only 15 minutes for a table for our party of 4 plus two doggies. I went with the same corned beef hash (since it was amazing), and my wife ordered the spicy chilaquiles with grilled shrimp. For both visits, the food was amazing and the service was excellent. We will define back again in the near future!

Yelp
So cute and well decorated. This place screams tea party vibes, yet the customer base looked like your average brunch crowd. Their menu has basic options typical to a brunch restaurant, but also "unicorn style" which our waiter described as adding more sugar to a meat. We all ordered the toasted marshmallow latte, which was amazing. My friend and I split the mushroom toast and blueberry pancakes. The most unsurprising garnish on the pancakes was the glitter. Food was good and pretty large portion too.

Yelp
This place is so cute . Food was delicious, tasty , well presented. Friendly staff we went on a Wednesday waited 30 minutes for a table which was fine as we waited inside at the bar ordered a turmeric ginger latte delicious and an almond croissant. Couldn't decide between the Shakshouka or Lobster Benedict's . Went with the Shakshouka and didn't fail was on point tasty and order the lemonade lavender understood free refills but was never offered one . Will definitely go back

Yelp
Super delicious breakfast. Wait time less than expected. Grabbed a wonderful pastry from the bakery while we waited. The chocolate croissants were a fave. Chilaquiles were delicious. One kid added avocado and another added chicken. The soufflé was more pastry than egg compared to the ratio I like. Potatoes and cranberry relish were nice accompaniment. Lobster Benedict was great also. Server was perfect. Would definitely return. Within walking distance from children's cove. Super cute decorations.

Yelp
This place deserves the hype. Went on a Sunday morning for brunch and it was busy but we got in after only waiting 25 minutes. Despite the crowd, staff maintain positive and friendly attitudes and were very attentive to their respective tables. We sat outside in the patio, because we had our dog with us, but it was very cute. The food we ordered was all delicious, no one had any complaints. The only thing I was a little dissatisfied with was that the coffee was not very strong and tasted like flavored milk.

Yelp
Everything we are we shared 3 ways and it was all delicious This is my 3rd time here. The French toast brioche was great since you build it yourself it doesn't get mushy. Cane with syrup, clotted cream , pralines (I think but candied and crunchy so good.) sliced bananas, and homemade caramel sauce I'm Mexican and picky about chilaquiles, Id eat them again for sure. Great flavor I think we added avocado and it was perfect! Get the potato side dish! So golden and yummy! Breakfast bagel was good. Thick and big! Totally shareable! Lattes were hit and beautiful Parking on a Sunday was difficult since there are several food places in close proximity so keave early and just wait for a spot to open up! Tip: Walk around the bakery inside while you are waiting and grab a few goodies to take home! So delicious! Food was 5 stars. I took a point off for 3 people at a tight tiny table outside with a view of parked cars. Inside is beautiful. Wait for an inside table.

Yelp
Sugar & Scribe is a relaxing place to sit back, sip your coffee or expresso drink and enjoying life in LaJolla as it slip by. We've been here twice, once during the week and the other on the weekend. This is a really popular venue. The brunch crowd on weekends makes it tough and I would suggest avoiding it if you can. But the food? Ahhh, yum! Their croissants remind us of Paris and the sandwiches and salads and specialty items are delicious. Food Network baker Maeve Rochford has an incredible place and it's a joy coming here.

Yelp
Delicious brunch and wonderful experience at Sugar and Scribe. I ordered the mushroom dish which was great, my son ordered the lobster dish with potato side which he didn't finish. The blueberry pancake was great as well. The service was friendly and the ambiance of the restaurant was beautiful and well executed. Parking was tricky but we ended up getting a spot right in front of the entrance but I can see parking being difficult in general but parking in Sam Diego generally is. Overall wonderful memories were made and Sugar and Scribe gets 5 stars! Thank you.

Yelp
While browsing for brunch places along Southern Cali, I stumbled upon Sugar and Scribe. On my last day in SD, I knew I wanted to explore along La Jolla & said, "Hell yeah, making the stop here!" The ambiance on a random weekday was laidback & chill, yet still busy for late brunch. With the cute decor perfect for afternoon tea, I couldn't help but smile at how this resto was a hidden gem in the area. I ordered the mushroom toast and oh baby, it did not disappoint! Scrumptiously overloaded with mushrooms on a bed of whipped ricotta, every bite was delicious from beginning to end. It was a great way to end my trip in SD. Thank you, Sugar & Scribe!

Yelp
Wow, this was my first experience dining out in the San Diego area (La Jolla), and it impressed me so much! This is my friend's go-to place for visitors, and I can easily understand why. Firstly, you'll be transfixed by the ambiance. So girly and inviting. There are flowers and gold everywhere and all of the china/glassware/silverware matches the aesthetic. As for food, definitely get the bread pudding french toast, it's delicious and comes with a slew of toppings/options (nuts, caramel, syrup, whipped cream). The king chicken in the pastry puff- so good. The spicy fried chicken biscuit sandwich was also excellent. Drinks- get a mimosa flight! No notes! Or, try a bloody mary- strong yet flavorful. Next time I'm in the area, I'll be back.

Yelp
summary: pretty much everything you could hope for in a breakfast/brunch spot. All of their menu items were great, service was fast and accommodating, and the ambiance is cute and lively. You're first greeted here by the ambiance (looks like it's usually busy) and the typical hustle and bustle of a good brunch spot. They have seating inside/outside and the venue looks great for pretty much all occasions. The food is great. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked. Really no complaints or dings on any of my experience here. Would totally recommend to anyone looking for a great meal.

Yelp
I was influenced by all the reviews and posts I've seen and chose Sugar and Scribe over Blue Whale for Saturday brunch. Their wait time was about 20 mins on a nice Saturday morning. Luckily the time went by quickly and we were seated in their pop up tent. Immediately I smelled something sour and was put off...well that's because they were reusing a wet towel to clean the tables and it just smelled musty. We tried our best to move past it. The service was quick though. My husband had a black coffee and I had a chai latte that were out in less than 5 minutes. The chai was so good - especially since I had a bad chai the day before. Lol the spices were balance and it was comforting. My husband had the bread pudding French toast and it was incredible! The bread was soft and moist, the candied pecans offered a nice texture and the whiskey caramel was extremely creamy and rich. It was a very sweet dish but so so yummy! I ordered the chilaquiles with added chicken and it was a nice portion with a good amount of heat. I really enjoyed it until I found a piece of hair deep in my dish...at this point I was practically done with my meal but it was still very off putting. I decided to inform the staff so they could prevent it for future customers. Our server was nice enough to genuinely apologize and removed it from our bill. That want my intention at all, but it was very nice of him. The food and service was really good, but the musty smell of the wet towels and the hair in my food is a concern for the cleanliness of the restaurant.

Yelp
The food was amazing and the service was excellent. We don't live nearby, but I'm already looking forward to coming back and trying the rest of the menu.

Yelp
We stopped by this cute venue for lunch while we were out and about. The place has a charming atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating options, making it a pleasant spot to relax. Inside, there's also a small shop where you can purchase food to go. However, I was a bit disappointed with the children's menu. We ordered the grilled cheese for the kids, but it turned out to be a bit too fancy for their tastes. On the other hand, I ordered the lox plate, which was very tasty. Overall, I get the sense that this place is more suited for breakfast. Their breakfast offerings sounded really good, and I'd love to come back to try them.

Yelp
Overall: WOW, this place is unbelievable- from the food, to the ambiance, to the service- you can tell deep thought and care was put into every detail. Single stall inclusive and cute bathrooms. Even from the road, you can tell how cute this place is. The decor is adorable and plentiful- definitely a vibe. There are so many cool places to sit- inside, outside, heated and covered patio, bar area. They have a little shop and bakery with lots of cute items and sweets. We went on a Thursday for brunch. It was pretty packed, but we were able to get seated right away and service was good. The menu was incredible- so many food items and fun drinks I wanted to try. The coffee, chilaquiles, and lobster Benedict were all incredible. I added shrimp to the chilaquiles and they were 5 of the largest, most tasty and perfectly cooked shrimp I've ever had. My son enjoyed his eggs, bacon, and berry bowl. The berries were fresh and high quality. I like seeing fun drinks on menus. The tumeric ginger latte was delicious but it was topped with too much black pepper, which was over-powering. This would be a perfect spot for celebrations. It felt like a really special meal and if I lived locally, we would be regulars.

Yelp
This was my first visit here. I was a bit worried when I realized they don't accept reservations however, we didn't wait longer than 20 minutes for our party of 4 at noon on a Saturday. Impressive. The service was outstanding and we didn't have to wait long for our food to come out. We sat outside on the outdoor patio which had a nice breeze. I ordered the Irish quiche which was perfectly prepared and had a soft, buttery crust that was to die for. I also ordered the mimosa flight. It was average but honestly I think the food is worth every penny!

Yelp
We loved our breakfast here! The outside seating on the two patio areas was so cutely decorated and the food and drinks were wonderful. I had a matcha tea latte with some coconut syrup and it was delightful and my colleague had the iced blue moon latte and she said it was wonderful as well. I ended up getting the mushroom toast which was so good with a perfectly poached egg, levain bread, goat cheese, so many mushrooms and was wonderfully seasoned and it came with small salad. My colleague got the spicy chicken Benedict with the potatoes, all of which looked wonderful and she said was very good! They have a beautiful inside area with a bakery and even the bathrooms were so cutely decorated. I can't wait to come back one day!

Yelp
This place is a solid brunch spot in La Jolla. Make sure to arrive 30 minutes before opening to find parking, as it can be tough on the weekends. I love the aesthetic--it's a cute spot for brunch with friends or family. Their specialties are pancakes and coffee drinks. We ordered lemon blueberry pancakes, shrimp and grits, Irish sausage roll with egg, and mushroom toast. My favorite was the pancakes--they weren't overly sweet but had just the right amount of sweetness from fresh fruit and syrup. Our waiter was friendly and gave great recommendations. Our food came out in just 10 minutes after we sat down, which was a plus even when the restaurant was packed full of people. I also love that they have some good selections for delicious sweets, cookies and tea so you can browse and shop after you finish your meal. I'd definitely bring more people here for brunch next time.

Yelp
Usually, if a restaurant is this cute the food falls short. It's like places can't have a nice atmosphere and serve good food at the same time. This place did both so well! The chicken Benedict was awesome. The blueberry pancakes were decadent and my boyfriend's chiliQuiles were great. And he's very picky about that dish. The coffee and Bloody Mary were also killer! The decor was so cute! I had just gotten engaged the night before so the whole weekend was a celebration and this was just the icing on the cake! I'm so glad we were able to come here. Our server was awesome super friendly! We will definitely be back

Yelp
Finally tried this place after all the hype we had heard about it. It was good, nothing specific to complain about but maybe my expectations were just too high because I was pretty underwhelmed. The drinks with all the crazy toppings are super cute, but it's all just for show and the drinks themselves don't taste like anything special. The food was good, but not mind blowingly amazing. We had chicken and waffles and the lobster Benedict. The ambience is cute and I appreciate that they let dogs on the patio. Service was good. I just don't think I would bother waiting for an hour or more to eat here again. If no wait, it's worth trying it out. In summary it seems like it's more about the appearance for instagram and less about the actual taste of food and drink.

Yelp
Overall: A fun and unique breakfast option. The good: We were in a semi-rush and the waiter was able to accommodate us in that regard. Great atmosphere and attention to detail, between the table setting and decorations. Large menu with lots to choose from, and both the naughty skillet and bread pudding french toast were delicious. The not-so-good: A little too expensive and the seating was a little tight. Food/drink: 8/10 Atmosphere: 8/10 Service: 8/10

Yelp
Long wait but worth it. Foods were above average but they took a while to come to our table. Cute interior decor!
