Sugar Baking Company is spectacular. The Brambles are their claim to fame and they are delicious. However they make all kinds of lovely pastries to try. The staff is friendly and efficient. They are also exceptionally patient. I witnessed a rather difficult customer at the counter and the associate was professional and kind, never letting any sign of impatience show. Thank you for making wonderful patries and for being so kind to your customers.

We purchased a half sheet for my daughter’s graduation celebration and the experience was amazing all around. Julie was wonderful to work with. The cake designer did an amazing job with the cake decor… made the logo and dragon look beautiful. The most important part was that the cake was actually so good! We love to eat cake and usually get ours from Whites (which we still love). We will definitely contact Sugar Bakery for future cakes! Thanks for making a perfect cake for our special event!

I stopped by yesterday because I was trying to kill some time while my mom was at Faulkner for surgery. My friend saw it on the map, and said let’s check it out! We ate some pastries while we were in there- and they were unbelievable. We got a dozen cookies to go, and we’re currently eating some of those for breakfast haha. The owner asked if we had ever been in, and since we hadn’t she gave us some “broken” brambles to try- which was exactly the kindness we needed yesterday waiting for the surgeon to call!! They were so insanely delicious. We’re already strategizing excuses to get back up that way to visit again!!!! Thank you so much!!

Had a lemon cake made for a bridal shower this weekend and it was perfect. Nicely decorated, really moist , frosting was not too sweet and she added in the wedding colors as flower decorations. Was ready on time and wanted to acknowledge the great bakery in our neighborhood.

Sugar Bakery on Centre Street holds a special place in my heart. Every year, I celebrate Mother’s Day by honoring the amazing mothers in my life with their delightful cupcakes. My mother’s favorite holiday was Mother’s Day, and one of her love languages was gift-receiving. After her passing, I wanted to continue her spirit of appreciation by creating a tradition. For the past 4-5 years, I’ve ordered ten boxes of half a dozen cupcakes each, hand-delivering them to ten incredible women I admire. The cupcakes from Sugar Bakery are simply exceptional. Each box is filled with beautifully crafted treats that not only look stunning but taste divine. The flavors are creative and varied, ensuring there’s something for everyone. From classic vanilla to indulgent chocolate, every bite is a testament to their dedication to quality and flavor. Ordered since February 2025 a twin birthday cake for my mum 80 Th birthday and her late twin brother, I cannot understand why the finished product presented at 6pm before the start of their surprise birthday party was gonna be suitable or acceptable for such a special occasions./ I don t think this business can cater for this kind of ocassion to the high standard that was expected and it had ruined the entire sentiment of the party, will not be using them again. Not good enough Cake to the left what expected cake to the right what received..

I dropped off my vacuum at My Sweeper nearby and the Sugar sign on this store made my head turn. SUGAR, the confection side of the business, is a must see. Two customers in line told me they have been driving here from Quincy (35 minutes away) for years to purchase birthday cakes. That’s remarkable because Quincy itself is known for a few amazing bakeries itself. The customer asked me, “Have you ever had their Brambles?” So I tried one and you’ll have to do the same when you visit. It’s a fine shortcake like pastry shaped in a half moon filled with raspberry sauce. I ate one then bought 12 Brambles for a housewarming gift. What stood out about this place was the atmosphere of fun, love, and pride from the staff who couldn’t be more pleasant and efficient and the customers who knew exactly what they were in for. Then I tried the Cigar, a cinnamon, chocolate pastry with-a light lemon sugar coating. Flakey, and as good as it looks.

I got a delicious carrot cake customized very last minute. I was impressed they could accommodate me on short notice. Staff was super nice and helpful. I also tried a bramble and it was magical. A little mini pie crust and raspberry jam - outstanding!!

I picked up some pastries for a party and was not disappointed! The bakery was very clean and smelled amazing. The service was also very fast and the staff helped me with any questions. My favorite baked items were the Italian sugar cookies and the mini cannolis. The donuts were also super good and felt very airy and light. All the items were reasonably priced and I am down to try out the bakery again for more pastries.

I've been on a hunt for the best cupcakes in Boston, so today we came to Sugar Bakery. I had a red velvet cupcake, caramel cupcake, and snickerdoodle cookie. The venue has quite a few options, from pastries to cookies, lemon bars, and of course, cupcakes. The ordering process was simple and we decided to get a table to have the cupcakes there. The caramel cupcake was nice but nothing was especially outstanding about it. There was a good balance of frosting to cake. The red velvet (disclaimer: I am very particular about red velvet) was ok for New England, although it wasn't very forward on the red velvet flavor. I actually enjoyed the icing more, although it was so thick as to be a bit difficult to get my fork through without using both hands. As for the snickerdoodle, we ate that at home later and...it was a fine cookie, but it was essentially a sugar cookie. Snickerdoodle cookies have a noticeable, and usually visible, amount of cinnamon or cinnamon sugar that brings a punch of flavor. It was just lacking that entirely, and I didn't see or taste any cinnamon in the cookie. All things considered, I'll keep my search for top bakeries going.

Sugar Bakery is SO CUTE! I love everything about it. All the sweets are very good and we love the brambles! Other sweets that I've really like are the cannolis, fruit tart, cookies, and chocolate cake . I also can't wait for the vegan donuts that are going to be introduced soon. The bakery brings the community together and I also love how it's next to good pizza! Can't wait to order more!

This is by far my favorite bakery. The ordering process is a breeze whether on the phone or in person. I purchase a cake from sugar at least once a month. They offer cake decorating at a reasonable price and an array of flavors. This establishment also offers other treats! The cakes are always moist and fresh. The only downfall is the inch and of half of frosting in the middle while my children love. The staff are always friendly and efficient. The establishment is always clean and gives a cozy feels.

Was more hyped for the place prior to trying out their goods, but emerged with some reservations. The chocolate cupcake was nice but the sponge was a tad dense and the frosting was a bit sweet. The mini blueberry tart and mini fruit tart were decent but they were so pricey for one bite each! I'd be up for trying some more with some modification of recipes ... perhaps I should have gone for the cookies. Seating area is decent.

We had a wonderful experience ordering my sons Baptism cake from Sugar Bakery! We also ordered an assortment of pastries that were a HUGE hit at the party! Both the cake and pastries got raving reviews. People especially raved about the frosting on the cake - it was super tasty and there was a lot of it both on the cake and in the layer in between. I'm only giving 4 stars not 5 because when I went to pick up the cake on a Saturday morning there was a long line for coffee ect so I walked over to the side where it seemed like one would go for pick up orders and the person behind the counter made me feel very stupid when she flatly looked at me and told me to get in line. We would order from here again in a heart beat, I just think it'd be helpful to have a sign for pick up orders, especially on the weekend where people are rushing to events!

I changed my mind, this is now my second favorite place in Boston for cupcakes (after Party Favors). I've been back several times and I enjoy their baked goods a great deal. Minus 1 star because the employee who usually is there to take my order clearly hates her job, but after I eat all my cupcakes, all is well.

I had my first experience with Sugar Baking Co today- I procrastinated planning my baby's first birthday and needed a cake. They had several premade options and placed a plaque on it with a message. We also purchased several cupcakes. While I was there, I had a cappuccino, which was delicious. I mentioned to an employee that we had never been there before, and she gave my son a sample of their signature cookie. We just finished our little birthday party. All of our friends commented on how delicious the cake was- my daughter ate two slices!!!!! The toddlers devoured the cupcakes. Everyone was happy. I previously would go to Party Favors in Brookline for my bakery needs- I'm a convert. I plan to go to Sugar moving forward. Their product is exceptional. The prices are reasonable. The service and politeness is delightful. I will be going there again.

The cake was delicious!!! And looked beautiful it was one that I bought same day! they had plenty of cakes on hand

Definitely not service with a smile almost like you're walking into a funeral home overrated for sure and definitely overpriced. I would say move on too bad I can't support this local business

I feel so lucky to only live a mile away from Sugar Baking Co. Their cannolis are to die for, their bakery items are fresh and perfect. The staff is kind and helpful. It is the cutest little bakery!!

Tried the cupcakes with buttercream frosting. Very good! So pretty and creatively decorated, too. Need to try the raspberry brambles.

Best cupcakes, always super fresh staff very friendly parking can definitely be an issue over there. There are a couple of restaurants but very, very good every time I had it.

Tried and true place for cupcakes, cookies, and anything else sweet that strikes your fancy. Faves include: carrot cake cupcake, lemon cookies for the broad selections on the wall. Service is consistently nice and helpful.

I keep wanting to like this place and trying different things when I'm at Recreo next door. Once again I was disappointed when I got a hermit and it was dry.

Whenever we are in Roxbury/Dedham area we make a trek to Sugar Bakery for the brambles. They are outstanding! Have also tried many of their other offerings and not one has disappointed. Worth the trip.

I have had one of everything on this menu. Excellent consistently tasty and well presented options. Chocolate mouse cake is a hidden gem. Staff is always friendly. Even breakfast options are outstanding. my faithful go to.

Nice bakery with a variety of desserts (cakes, pies, tarts, cookies, etc.). They also have drinks such as apple cider and coffee, all reasonable priced! I got a banana cream pie tart. It was nice and creamy with just the right amount of banana flavor. I got the larger size which was $5.99, they also have a small/mini one for around $2. I would recommend the smaller one of one person or if you want to try more than one flavor! I also tried the "bramble" which is two pieces of pie crust with raspberry jam in between. It was really good and just the right portion for me. The staff was friendly as well!

Excellent bakery with a ton of variety- cakes, pastries, cookies, tarts, treats, lots to satisfy your sweet tooth. Their cupcakes are moist and flavorful- and there's like, a dozen kinds to choose from on any one given day-, their brambles are lovely little bites (not mind-blowing as others have said, but tasty), their cookies are solid, and the service is quick and friendly. FYI the black-and-white is much more cake than cookie here, and has straight-up frosting instead of a glaze- still good, but not 'classic' in case that's your jam. Genus idea to have a door through to Reel Deal next door- they must do gangbusters in terms of sharing customers, sweet and savory are a great match.

I love bakeries but what I love about Sugar is they're friendly, the place is always clean and also gives me a feeling of nostalgia. My absolute favorite delicious confection is their chocolate expresso cake! It is a chocolate lovers dream!!! It's everything you want chocolate and cake to be in one! Mmmm. When I was pregnant I was there weekly!!!! There are so many tasty treats for eating. U know mines! What's urs!?

I ordered my daughter's birthday cake for her 1st birthday last minute from here. Told them the theme and just hoped it would be ok. It was amazing. They knocked it out of the park. It was gorgeous and delicious! What a gem to find!!

4/5 The coffee is great value here for the quality. My husband is a coffee snob and he likes the coffee served here. There is a big selection of baked goods. I honestly haven't been super impressed by any of the baked goods I've gotten here but they've been solid.

This place has gone stale. Desserts are no longer fresh. Don't count on them having been baked same day, this place is going downhill unfortunately. used to be my favorite bakery.

We were wanting to find a "Boston cream pie" during our stay in Boston. The closest place that was still open was the Sugar bakery. They advertise a Boston cream cupcake which is what we got. It was very good. Also got a chocolate covered cream puff which was delicious too. We came in one half hour before closing time and we were still treated kindly.

Limited choices of pastry and cakes. For the price paid, baked goods were average in quality throughout (we bought cookies, 2 cake slices and a pastry)

Oh my goodness this bakery is delicious! For breakfast they have croissants, freshly baked scones and all sorts of delicious things. they have a huge assortment of mini tarts, pies, eclairs etc and their cookies and delicious. Great cozy atmosphere and friendly staff!

I just had the most delicious danish ever! The pastry was crispy and the lemon and raspberry filling were excellent. I can see that they would be easily addictive. A new favorite for when you want to indulge. I'd show you a pic but it's gone!

7:45 AM on Christmas Eve Day and I am already back from Sugar with the goodies for tonight and tomorrow; who looks like Superwoman when she arrives with boxes filled with gorgeous mini pastries?? In years past I haven't been so efficient with my arrival time at Sugar, but even when the line is long, it moves quickly; Sugar always has a lot of people working (other places should take note!!).

I could not have asked for a better cake for my son's birthday. Assuming no one knows Color Crew (Baby's first tv) I offered up a picture for them to go off of and they came through 100%! They followed up a week before to confirm details etc. and were lovely. Personalized cakes aren't cheap but this was well worth the $65- I will absolutely be ordering from them again. Thank you for making my 2 year old's day! Adding onto this: Sugar made my sister's boyfriend's 30th birthday cake. Another amazingly delicious cake! Looking forward to my son's third birthday cake!

Super cute place with an amazing selection of baked goods. It so hard to decide which to choose as everything looks delicious.

The cupcakes and staff = amazing! Unfortunately when I went, there was a long line outside so the wait for hefty. Can't blame that on them though, they're just that good! Lots of options (this was the only place I could find a yellow cupcake with chocolate frosting).

Delicious bakery - the bramble recipe is from the old original bakery in that location, Hanleys. Everything is outstanding.

Finally made a visit to Sugar Bakery. I was craving for Key Lime Pie Tart and luckily I was able to take some home. When I got home I realized that I should have gotten more of tarts... Well, next time!

Sugar Bakery made a beautiful and delicious cake for my daughters first birthday! Highly recommend!

Wow this place is amazing! My friend heard about this place on TV when it was featured a long time ago on TV. They have a large selection of cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and pretty much everything you can think of. This is a fairly large bakery and they have 8 mini tables that you can sit at. This establishment is very clean, organized, and well decorated. It's a nice brick building with artwork of their pastries surrounding the counter. Next door, they are directly attached to a pizza and sandwich restaurant. What they're most well known for are there Brambles, which are essentially 2 pie shells filled with sugary raspberry goodness. We ended up getting the Brambles and one of their chocolate and almond Cannolis. The Brambles were good, but I not as amazing as I expected from all the hype. The cannolis were average, but I still like the ones from North End more. Moreover, I had to keep asking the employees what a lot of the pastries and cakes were as they didn't have labels or prices on them. The employees seemed annoyed that I was asking these type of questions. Overall, amazing bakery and the Brambles are worth checking out if you've never had them!

I got 2 Whoopie pies and 6 cupcakes. Overall they we're very good. The pumpkin Whoopie pie was the better of the two but both were very moist and soft and the creme filling wasn't too sweet. The chocolate one was good but flavor wasn't anything crazy. The cupcakes were all a hit. My favorite was the carrot cake which had nuts in it and a great texture and flavor. The Oreo one has a chocolate covered Oreo on top and had Oreo flavor throughout the whole cupcake. The other ones were moist and soft and packed with flavor as well. Would definitely recommend this place.

A wonderful experience. I visited the Thursday before Christmas and needless to say it was busy. But the display cases were full of delicious and beautiful looking goodies. It took a little time for me to choose which treats to buy as gifts but the girl who waited on me was patient and very nice in telling me about each thing I pointed to. I need to go back soon and buy something for myself! I highly recommend Sugar Bakery.

' OMG 5 stars is not enough!! I am a chocolate chip cookie connoisseur!! I ordered them from every bakery across the country and these are by far the best I have ever had!!! Not only am I in a chocolate chip cookie addict, from these amazing perfectly everything cookies but my husband is also obsessed with the raspberry bramble cookie. If you can only have one last thing before you die, let it be a chocolate chip cookie from Sugar Baking Company in West Roxbury!! What a way to go !!"

Absolutely delicious chocolate birthday cake with traditional butter cream frosting!!

This is my favorite bakery, so much so, that I've actually ditched my old favorite bakery for this place. It's actually become a tradition in my house to only order cakes from sugar bakery because we are obsessed with their vanilla lemon cake! We never liked lemon cake prior to this but they make their cakes so moist and the lemon is not overpowering. Love sugar bakery!

Been looking for a bakery in Boston for years since moving here and finally found this little gem. Cookies are fresh and lots of variety (chocolate chip, m&m, oatmeal raisin, sugar, black and white, etc). They have slices of cake and whole cakes. Cupcakes galore and not going to break the bank like most bakeries in Boston. Love the (seasonal) Guinness chocolate cupcake. Frosting on cupcakes are fresh and ample. The mini tarts will satisfy any picky dessert eater: fruit tarts, chocolate tarts, pie tarts, cookie tarts! Highly recommend the eclairs (mini and regular size) and the macaroons covered in chocolate are to die for! They also have lobster tails and Italian cookies. Prices for baked items vary but I can get a few picks and spend less than 5$. I've been twice this week already. Next up is the bramble (pie crust cookie filled with raspberry jam!)

Ordered a strawberry shortcake for a friend's birthday and it surpassed our expectations! The cake was not only beautiful but absolutely delicious as well! The fresh whipped cream was out of this world and the cake itself was moist and tasty. Lovely decoration job! Delivered on time and in perfect condition. Our new go to bakery, especially for special occasions!

I love sugar. I lived close by and now miss it terribly. Their coffee is really good and everything their bakery has is sinfully wonderful. Fresh and delicious.

That pastries were amazing. The bramble had the perfect amount of jam. We tried a good sample of cookies, cupcakes and Italian pastries. I would have give it 5 stars but the server was for some reason angry. So much so that when she put the cookie tray back in the case she slid it so har that a half dozen cookies flew off the tray. We all have bad days. I will definitely go back.

Can't believe this got anything less than 5 stars This is the best bakery for cookies cupcakes or sweets in Boston: the breadth of choices is more than any north end bakery and better - I brought cookies to a party and people freaked out, then cupcakes and more the same reaction, I brought their m and m cookies to a pot luck type event and all different people asked separately to bring some home, every single thing is delicious. I also feel like fairly priced. Anyway, totally a happy surprise and for me an unknown gem, can't recommend enough. Coffee good too. Also not a game changer but I love that everyone in their is working....sounds funny but when you go to say a Whole Foods or Starbucks, there are like 4 people behind the counter and one customer looking at them like "hellllooooo just need a slice of turkey" and this shop has all attentive, nice, bustling employees who seem to take pride in their shop, as they should!
