left is real cake and right is my original design. Little deviated from my design and lost the cute feel. Also two sweet for me. And charges $155 for 8 inch while a regular 8 inch cake in their store costs $60. This cake only has a special monster on it which costs $95 additional bucks

The individual cakes still looked amazing but not every one is a home run. - The Chocolate Opera is still as good as the it was the first time - The Guava Mousse is delicious from top to bottom, both layers of cake and guava mousse. This may be my new favorite. - The Hazelnut Chocolate Napoleon was pretty good but the bottom layer of vanilla sponge cake was a bit stale. If you like Ferrero Rocher, you'll enjoy this. - The Mango Raspberry Mousse wasn't bad. The layer of vanilla cake was good, the raspberry mousse was sour and the mango mousse was good but the mango flavor wasn't strong. - The Lemon Cheesecake is just a regular thick cheesecake with a lemon coating on top --- The individual cakes looked amazing but they weren't that good. - I've had better Tiramisu for a lower price. Fancier does not mean better. - The Chocolate Opera was delicious and my favorite. I enjoyed the coffee flavor on this a lot more than I did the Tiramisu. The chocolate ganache is dark chocolate so it is a bit bitter. - The Green Tea Cheesecake tasted like regular cheesecake and is dense. - The Chocolate Truffle Cake wasn't bad but wasn't great. - The Turtle Cheesecake was super sweet so if you have a sweet tooth, this is for you. It is a dense piece of cheesecake.

I ordered a strawberry shortcake. The cake was just alright. Nothing special. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't very good. Just a mediocre cake. The one thing that was good about this cake: the cake wasn't very sweet. Next time I won't buy cakes here. I think this cake isn't worth the money I paid for it.

Bought a Chocolate Raspberry Mousse Cake from Sugar Butter Flour because my kid loves raspberries. In the shop, it had a fresh raspberry on top. Got home—raspberry gone, clear mark where it was. Looks like it was deliberately removed. Disgusting, dishonest, and pathetic. If you can’t serve it as shown, say so. You just lost a customer for good!

I had read several reviews about the burnt almond cake at Sugar Butter Flour so I decided to stop by when I was in the area. The pastry case was full of all kinds of pastries that ranged from small individual servings and full sized cakes. I got an individual size burnt almond cake and yule log. The burn almond cake is a vanilla and chocolate cake with amaretto custard filling and topped with whipped cream and almonds. The yule log was chocolate cake with a custard filling and chocolate ganache icing. Overall, I was underwhelmed with the desserts. The burnt almond cake just tasted like almond extract and the yule log wasn't anything special. Based on these two desserts, I likely wouldn't return to the Sugar Butter Flour.

update: ordered a custom cake for a work event and it did not only turn out perfect but also tasted amazing!! My favorite bakery in the sf bay area! Everything tastes so amazing and looks so pretty! Never been disappointed. I'd recommend to definitely try the burnt almond. Also tried the double cheese cake for the first time yesterday (recommended by the person working there) and while I'm not a fan of cheese cakes, it was delicious and I'll definitely get it again.

I've been ordering cakes here for birthdays for many years now. Off late quality and customer service have gone downhill. Most recently, I ordered a quarter sheet cake which I was supposed to be chocolate but they made vanilla. My daughter was so sad when she cut the cake. It was also very sweet and most kids at the party refused to eat it. The colors on the cake were also nothing like the image I shared. When I emailed the store, they didn't even bother replying. I'll be finding another place for expensive birthday cakes.

I came in very last minute to grab some cakes for a work event. I was so glad they had plenty of options ready to go! The event was for 50 people and the quantity suggested by the employee was just perfect! Everyone loved the burnt almond cake (always a hit), the strawberry vanilla cake, cheesecake (my personal fave) and the chocolate cake! If you want a sweet treat but dont need a whole cake, there is seating inside and they serve drinks like hot tea.

This is apparently a sister bakery to a favorite local bakery of mine, La Patisserie in Cupertino. Store layout is similar and it really gives more of the friendly, home-made vibe when you walk into the shop. There is a nice selection of cookies, pastries, and especially cakes. I'm not a big fan of cakes because they tend to be too sweet, and the same goes here. I'm sure I'd enjoy the cookies more; nevertheless, I wanted to try the reputable burnt almond cake here, and I would attest that there's nothing quite like it. Layers of different cake flavors paired with the almond flavoring really harmonize well!

I've always been curious about this place and I'm glad I finally got to try it. I was able to place an order online for a strawberry short cake. It was good! The strawberries were fresh and I like the custard. The outside of it has bars of white chocolate which was good but too sweet for me. I also tried a mini version of their cheesecake and famous burnt almond cake. My boyfriend liked the cheesecake but I liked the almond cake more. The almond cake was also too sweet for me so I couldn't eat it all in one sitting. When you go inside, they do have some cakes, cookies, and pastries on display if you need to walk in and buy something. The customer service was nice and she guided me on what to order since it was my first time.

Even tho we did delivery, they taped a stamp card on the box. I appreciated this touch and it'll likely get me to visit them in person to collect more stamps :') I liked the lemon tart a lot. The crust was perfectly flakey but with structural integrity and the custard was very lemony and sweet. As far as lemon tarts go, it was very solid

I ordered from this establishment via DoorDash.. sitting across the country in cold Kentucky... because I wanted to send something sweet to a sweet friend. Randomly Googled dessert places in and around Palo Alto, came across this bakery with almost perfect reviews. So I took a chance. Considering that it was a Sunday and just a few hrs before their closing, the online selection was decent if not great. I got some pastries doordash-ed within 30 mins! And I just heard from my friend that the pastries were delectable! Btw, I must add that they looked yummy in photos Now I'm looking forward to visiting this bakery on my next visit to SF. Sister bakery to my favorite bakery in the bay- La Patisserie in Cupertino. We were in the area and decided to pick up some individual size burnt almond cakes. We really love their burnt almond cakes. It has a strong and flavorful almond taste. We love that they add in a thin layer of chocolate cake and the custard is what seals the deal. Everything together can make it super sweet but we seem to like it. We got at La Patisserie and heard SBF has the same thing. It's our favorite Burnt Almond Cake! We think it beats Peter's Bakery too. Peter is the original but I feel it's super light and at times tasteless and dry. It's the only the cream that makes it. Huge fan of their cakes!

Stunning cake. The soon to be expecting couple loved it. It was my first time working with SBF and they came through. Pictures dont do it justice as my camera was not the best but it looked very close to the photo I provided for inspiration. They will be my go-to for future customized cakes, if needed. Thanks to your cake chef for a job well done!

Horrible waste of time trying to get Mojgan to work with me on a wedding cake. She was extremely inflexible and no at all enjoyable to work with. She will only do one flavor cake and one flavor of frosting per cake. The inner layer has to be the same flavor buttercream as the frosting. She never called me to discuss anything but just repeated herself via emails. She insisted I purchase a tasting box when I wasn't interested in most of the flavors in the box. I emailed to ask I'f I could purchase 3 small cakes to represent each tier of the proposed wedding cake, but she never replied back. What a scam! I tried patiently to work with her, but she lost out on $2000 worth of my business. I won't be recommending her bakery to anyone.

When people say they got their cakes from Sugar Butter Flour, I know I'll be eating a damn good cake; so far their cake hasn't failed me. Recently I got their Burnt Almond Cake (BAC) and it was absolutely amazing. I usually go to Peter's Bakery for BAC that's located in East SJ, but decided to change it up. The difference is night and day; Peter's Bakery is half the price at about $25, but I feel like you get half the ingredients because the cake is very light in taste. Compare that to Sugar Butter Flour, smallest round cake that serves about 8 people will run about $55, but it's dense and moist. The winner between the two of them for BAC is Sugar Butter Flour.

Extremely happy with the level of service provided and quality of product from this store. The cake was absolutely beautiful and elegant, exactly what I was looking for. Mojgan was truly amazing to work with on my custom cake order. She helped me figure out the right size of cake for amount for our daughter's party. The cake was incredibly moist, flavorful and was rich without being too heavy. The buttercream frosting was the perfect balance of sweet and creamy, and the presentation was stunning. It was clear a lot of care and attention to detail went into making this cake. The Sugar Butter Flour staff were also incredibly helpful and friendly throughout the entire process, from ordering to personally delivering the cake. The cupcakes were delicious too! I would highly recommend them for any special occasion.

This bakery has been around for a long time. I custom ordered my Mom's 60th birthday cake here...not only was it delicious but my Mom loved the design of the cake. Their baked goods is a must try...below are my recommendations to try. - Red Velvet cupcake - Burnt almond cake - Persian Napoleon - Princess cake - Pistachio, Chocolate, Raspberry macrons

Delicious cake, everything was just as ordered and on time. I've gone here a handful of times in the past, and would definitely return. I don't live super close, so forget about it sometimes, will remember for the future.

OMG- They did it again! These guys have been doing custom cakes for us for many years. This time it was for my wife's birthday. They made a cake that replicated the hotel we typically stay at. They nailed it down to the specific room. Plus they flavored the cake and filling. Great job as always!!!

Found this place as we were looking for wedding cakes for my son and his now wife. The wedding cake sampler we had was ok. We all were disappointed as the samples were rather dry. On a whim, we decided to get the burnt almond cake, based on other yelp reviews, and OMG - it so delicious and addicting! We love this cake. We ordered a full sheet (it's huge!) of this burnt almond cake as the groom's cake for the rehearsal dinner/party. Everyone who had a taste went Gaga for it! Definitely recommend this. They do sell a small 'ball/round' of this cake that is easily shared! Service is a hit or miss here depends on who you get at the counter. A popular bakery as they seem to be busy each time I visit.

SBF is my go-to on the Peninsula for birthdays and events. They always fulfill the orders on time when I call ahead, and their cakes are great. There were one or two times that staff was a bit curt on the phone, but they do get busy with orders. Make sure you don't pick up your cake late, or they will check on you until you arrive. Our favorites are the chocolate mocha and red velvet cakes.

5/12/2024- Special delivery from my youngest son- Who took the time to drive an hour away to pick up the online order..thank you! Somewhere I saw a video posted on the Burnt almond cake.. and had to get it.. Son brought the cake over the pass... Gorgeous cake to look at! Cake was very moist and had the perfect amount of sweetness.. Layers of chocolate, yellow cake, amaretto filling, and topped off with whip cream.. 5 stars!

Had a farewell party for my boss and i was scrambling to find a cake shop that could accommodate my request and Sugar, Butter Flour came through! This cake was just beyond what I expected and turned out to be our company colors too which was not intentional. Everyone loved the cake and it turned out bigger than I thought but everything, and I mean EVERY SINGLE PIECE was gone. Beautiful AND delicious! Definitely reordering from this shop and will be sharing with my community for custom cake orders!

I love the burnt almond cake here. It is simply so decadent and delicious with strong hints of almond. The service here is good too because it's a small bakery but the line can be long. All of the other pastries I've gotten here though have been flops. The raspberry mouse was simply horrible. It was too sticky and felt like glue in my mouth. All in all, I come here often for the burnt almond cake but nothing else.

Mojgan and Nazy are the kindest ladies. I love their hazelnut napoleon. Great coffee as well and they have good seating. They make custom cakes as well and have some really nice pictures.

Didn't know about this place until we swing in the parking lot for the nearby Arby's. Took a walk over and yay! Lots of cakes in the display. There's no seating inside, two tables right outside to enjoy a quick cup of coffee and slice but not much for ambiance. $7.95 each slice, which in this day and age is a "reasonable" price to stomach. Decided to get a napoleon and the lemon tart. Both were nice, didn't taste stale for a Sunday visit, and not overly sweet. The linzer cookies caught my eye too but didn't have a price and thought about all the other cookies currently in the pantry so will have to visit another time to try those and other shortbread cookies on display.

I got the burnt almond cake to surprise my wife for her birthday and this was a great cake for any celebration! If you like almond and frangipane this cake is basically an almond croissant in cake form. The burnt almond was crisped to perfection, adding a nice crunch to every bite. While there is a fair amount of cream in the cake it's evenly balanced out with the nutty flavor of the almonds. I'd definitely get this cake again for a special occasion!

I have heard great things about their burnt almond cake and wanted to try it myself. I got their brunt almond cake and lemon tart. The lemon custard had a nice balance of sweet and tart. But the crust was just on the stale side. The almond cake was good. It had the right amount of sweetness and crunch. The cake was moist with custard in the middle.

I got the red velvet cake for my bday. I am real picky about cakes. The cakes are really good here. The texture , the taste, the flavor. I am definitely giving all stars.

We got four pastries and one cookie. The cheese cake was super dry and tasted stale. The hazelnut cake was dry. The cookie was hard. The other two pastries tasted dry as well. The customer service was good though. So two stars for friendly employees!

I used to really love Sugar Butter Flour. They have a wide selection and can probably make any custom cake design anyone asks for. I've had a couple of disappointments recently. A few months ago I ordered 50 cupcakes and while they were beautiful, they were a little dry. Recently, we got a birthday cake for my granddaughter there. It was spectacular to look at, very expensive, and the chocolate cake was bland and a little dry. My granddaughter was thrilled by the design, but too much of that cake was tossed in the trash. I've also been disappointed by lackluster customer service. I've run into at least one employee who took my order but was rude and impatient even though there was no one else in the bakery but me. This was a great bakery. They did an excellent job with my son's wedding cake a few years ago. I hope they will be great again.

Gorgeous cakes and so many to choose from. We chose the Burnt Almond cake. It was so moist and delicious! Clean store and fun staff.

Everyone loves the burnt almond and this is what I always get. Then in addition Tiramisu and one of the tarts is a good addition. I now get multiple small portions and different types , instead of one big cake for sugar sensitive friend's birthday celebration. It seems to be more interesting. With bigger group I'll get 5 different small cakes which is more fun to look at also. Then I put birthday candles on each .

Picked up some items from here for my husband birthday. Service was quick and the people serving were super nice in terms of recommending things. Got the red velvet cupcake, classic cheesecake, burnt almond, and strawberry and creme. The cheesecake was good, the strawberry crème was great, but the red velvet cupcake was okay. Would I come back? It's not exactly my first choice but it's good for something close by.

I found a cake that I liked on the header that if I needed and idea of a cake to order for an special anniversary party I could just asked that baker to use that design. I found the cakes designs to be very, very creative. I found that if I had any questions I could grab my cell phone or my landline phone and just call and ask my silly little question that wasn't so silly after all. The person that answered the phone was extremely helpful and very polite. what a great bakery. what a fantastic website design.

Amazing cakes. It's pricey, but well worth it! The Burnt Almond cake is amazing. My husband loves carrot cake, so I ordered one for his birthday. It was beautifully decorated & he said it was the best carrot cake he had ever had.

This place has become our go-to for birthday cakes. My favorite is the burnt almond, but nearly every cake I've had there has been great. Most recently, we got a black forest cake, which was nicely packed with cherries and pudding. The salespeople are all very nice as well.

We got a custom chocolate hazelnut eggless cake from the bakery and the cake was delicious - dense chocolate cake with a chocolate hazelnut ganache with pieces of hazelnut! They made eggless cupcakes for us to try the flavor and customized the design of the cake as per a photo we sent.

The kid behind the counter literally gave me my small cake without a glove. When I asked her if you don't use gloves here, she said oh sorry we just didn't have the sheet. I literally saw her touch my cake with her bare hands. This place is okay even in taste. But that was disgusting. I guess I'm done patronizing them.

I ordered a cake for my sister's baby shower and I was incredibly pleased with the results. The store was super fast at responding to all my emails and I showed them an inspiration picture and they did exactly what I wanted. Everyone at the baby shower loved the design of the cake and also the taste of it! Definitely coming back for all celebrations!

Every time I go to sugar butter flour, I am greeted with friendly smiles from the workers. They are very helpful to answer any questions I have. My favorite cake is the burnt almond cake and it is amazing. Not too sweet, perfect amount of crispiness on the outside and great layer of the cream on the inside. I will for sure continue to go back!

My coworkers introduced me to this place because of their burnt almond cake. It's delicious. Tastes like the berry chantilly cake from Whole Foods if you like that one! We've tried the Guava cake too before which also tasted great if you like guava! Came on a Monday to pick up pastries and there were other people ordering, with just one lady to serve. She was quick despite having to serve us and handle phone calls. Not a lot of seats but I know most people just order to-go for their cakes!

Sugar Butter Flour is one of my favorite no-frills bakeries in the South Bay. My go-to is their specialty burnt almond cake but they have a selection of other wonderful pastries as well. Their bread pudding is delicious (although very rich!) and their cookies are also quite tasty. Their almond croissant is also my second favorite after Midwife and the Baker. Their mini-cakes are also quite tasty even though they are on the pricey side. I'm not a big fan of their cupcakes... I would personally rather go to a specialty cupcake shop than come here and their scones are also the best in my view. However, when it comes to the other items, you are in good shape. I have personally never had the opportunity to order a custom cake from here although from what I can see, they also look amazing as well!

A lovely local bakery with great pastries and cake slices. I really like their strawberry almond tart. Their mango mousse and guava mousse cakes are also delicious. Really you can't go wrong! Most impressively they made this amazing 3D dragon cake for my son's birthday.It was massive and truly a work of art.

I'm a cake snob. This has got to be one of the best burnt almond cakes I've ever eaten. The layers or moist chocolate and vanilla with a r custard. Service was nice. Super small quaint bakery with lots of other delicious pastries. The carrot cakes are delightful as well.

I was absolutely in love with the custom cake that we order for my daughter's 5th birthday. The theme was "Five is a Vibe" and the cake fit so perfectly with the theme! We chose the the coconut cake with guava buttercream and strawberries preserve for the filling. The flavor combo was amazing. I was absolutely blown away. I thought the cake was pretty moist and delicious. Definitely worth it. Price was reasonable. Thank you guys!! We loved the cake. We will definitely come back for more !
