I consider myself a macaroon enthusiast. Having been introduced to this magnificent cookie a few years ago, I've consumed more than my fair share and in various parts of the world. Some have been an absolute delight and others have been chucked into the bin. What I consider to be the perfect macaroon, allows for two bites, the first being exploratory and the second; savor the delectable flavour. Unfortunately Sugar Fixe did not meet these requirements. After reading the reviews and them being closed a few weeks ago, I was really excited to try this establishment. A few days ago, I did just that. My SO and I picked out a box of macaroons. At first glance I was a bit disappointed in the muted colors, which coincidentally also became the theme for their flavours. The rose macaroon, I tried first. In this, I absolutely tasted rose. However, I was unable to employ my two bite enjoyment. The texture of these macaroons are such that they crackle and the top part of the cookie begins to break. Thus, these are best as one bite. Next, I tried the vanilla, the flavour was flat/bland. Clearly I was chewing something but it lacked distinguishable flavour. A day later I had the hibiscus, which also fell flat and lastly the Pistachio, which had flavour but it did not taste like Pistachio, but rather the taste one gets from almond extract (which I find to be sort of perfume (y) and artificial). On today, I finally ate the last of the purchased macaroons, The Birthday macaroon (my birthday was a few days ago), I definitely did taste the strawberry filling and enjoyed the soft middle layer texture, but just as before the macaroon began cracking and falling apart at first bite. I'm very disappointed in my macaroon experience here and will stick to my regular place, which I absolutely love. As for Sugar Fixe, I was left wanting more and will not be back to this establishment.
