07/25/2025 Pleasant al fresco dining just a few blocks from the fresh ocean breeze. Quick service, attentive staff, and most importantly, when the sun started to get hot, they had a retractable green awning by the back area. Tip: instead of waiting for a table by the front or inside, ask to be seated in the back patio area where there is little to no wait.

Google
Food was very good and came out at a very decent time for a big group. Only complaint was that they took excessively long to deliver a single extra pancake (at the time where everyone was about to leave), and the service was a tiny bit (though understandably) grumpy, but the place looks super nice and had fair prices.

Google
I love my first visit here won't be my last I got the eggs Benedict. The owner is super nice and the grandkids are the one serving the coffee . Funny fact is some of the dishes are named after the grandchildren.

Google
Not knocking this place at all… Not bad. But not worth the money spent for the amount of food was my rating reason. The food was, good, not amazing. But it came out really fast and was on the smaller side. Outside seating was nice and the staff were friendly and courteous. There are a few really good breakfast / brunch spots on Main. This one just didn’t grab us with the return soon feel. Maybe someday.

Love this place been going for years! Every time my daughters come to town this is where they want breakfast! Food is always very good! Love the hash browns!! Always friendly staff. Great service! If you haven't been need to check them out! Biscuits and gravy are also very good!!!!!

Google
I came here yesterday 8/15/25. We got a table in the back immediately, the food came out in record time, and it tasted alright, but I’m 95% sure I got food poisoning from here. Two hours after eating, I found myself losing my breakfast in two trash cans on the beach on the way to the bathroom. It was my first day in town of three. I’m still queasy, and very upset. I had the sunshine breakfast (eggs, toast, sub fruit). I’ll update if it somehow ends up being something else. Also while he cleared plates, a waiter left a pot of very hot coffee on the table next to my toddler nephew. Thank goodness we were able to stop him from touching it. But it just feels like common sense was lacking.

Google
I had the most amazing breakfast experience here! The omelettes are absolutely delicious—perfectly cooked, fluffy, and filled with fresh ingredients. The service was wonderful too! The staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. The cozy atmosphere and welcoming vibe made it a great spot to start the day. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a great breakfast!

Google
The best place after a surfing session! I’m from Italy and It was my first time in Huntington Beach. I was looking for a place for breakfast/brunch and here I found a great atmosphere and a lot of kindness. The burrito was big, tasty and amazing, served with smashed potatoes. I was so full and satisfied. The location is perfect and I really liked the staff. You can’t miss it if you are around!

Yelp
Great breakfast by the beach super cozy spot, I'm getting the Keppler Meal with Sour dough bread and a fruit bowl substituted for hash browns. Good service and orange juice

Yelp
A cozy breakfast/brunch spot on the main streets of Huntington beach. The servers are super welcoming and helpful. The interior seems to be old and outdated, but they offer outdoor seating as well. - french toast: 6.1/10. The french toast seemed to be a slice of toast coated in pancake mix. It wasn't as crispy as I would have liked (I ate it fresh even though I got it to-go). I liked that the french toast wasn't too sweet and could be dipped in syrup for extra sweetness. Everyone seemed to have hashbrowns on their plates which looked so delicious! The hashbrowns looked huge and crispy! Will come back to try those next time.

Yelp
First time to the Huntington area, besides the sports bar last night this would be our 2nd stop to eat. Packed for Father's Day Saturday brunch-wait 16-20 minutes for 6. Great selection of food and service good. Enjoyed that there was one serving food-within minutes and pleasant demeanor. We ordered eggs Benedict scrambled sauce on the side, 2-2eggs special both bacon and French toast, bacon egg burrito, Main Street omelette w/fruit and the breakfast special. Food was warm, coffee hot and service good. Fresh fruit bowl, well worth the $2 extra-watermelon, melons, orange thick slices and bananas. We sat out back. Definitely a place to return. Decor simple. $160 w/tip

Yelp
Was introduced to this place by a couple surfers so I knew this was the spot for bomb breakfast food. I came here a couple times since and so I brought my partner here recently to try for her first time and it's still on point. I got those specialized French toast with a side of eggs and bacon. Don't really add maple to it because it's already sweet and flavorful. Texture is like eating clouds. It melts like better, sheesh. The avocado burrito is a clean dish but you can't forget to drench that thing with the salsa. The salsa is the good part. It gets busy sometimes, but trust, lines go by fast. The beach and ocean is within view too. Chill vibes. It's always good to see a restaurant busy and lit. That's a sign about their food and service. People come thru.

This is my first time here and I LOVED it . Breakfast burrito was delicious. Will be back .

Yelp
Great for a quick bite to eat within a stones throw of the water. Pretty standard menu, patio seating and pleasant experience.

Yelp

Yelp
Food was okay, but what really surprised me is I had to pay extra to have toast with my breakfast. Prices are already high and to charge extra for toast is just penny pinching. Too many other great options in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Outside seating is nice, service was great. Food is just OK. I probably wouldn't recommend as there are some other better diner style brunch restaurants around.

Yelp
The sugar shack café is an amazing restaurant! I ordered the sausage and egg burrito and Wow . So filling and so good. Service was great. Had a great waitress who really took care of us! Great atmosphere and service is really great!!

Yelp
Cute , small store front. Front and back patio seating Small 1 unit bathroom. Smells good though. Small halls, small internal brakfast br and beach town vibe. Very cute. The food comes out fast!!! Hot. Good!! The hasbrowns are great!! So crisp The bacon is super good too. No bar service here, bummer. But so cute and has amazing charm. The service is great! I can do this again Quick, simple, solid food

Yelp
Although a historic hangout for locals, Sugar Shack fails to deliver beyond average diner food and lackluster customer service. The breakfast burrito was literally a burrito you can make at home, with no special flavor profiles to look forward to. It's not on par with today's dining experiences anywhere else in Orange County. Not worth a visit for us again.
google avatar

Yelp
For years I've been coming to Huntington and told how amazing Sugar Shack is. They always have a wait so I always opt to eat elsewhere. I finally decided to wait and it was the most mediocre menu and breakfast ever. Most menu items were nothing special, or creative. I did like how you could order eggs Benedict in half, I have never seen that option before. The eggs Benedict was also delicious. The ham sandwich was pretty regular, but the potato type chip was good. Overall, not worth the hype but decent breakfast food.

Yelp
First of all my baby's and I!!! visiting Huntington Beach!! And here we are on a restaurant that is being here since 1967 and let me tell you about the food. Everything we ordered was fresh and Delicious Julia our server was amazing.....so we are going to give this place customer service food I truly recommend

Yelp
This place gives diner vibes and it was fantastic, especially what I love. We sat inside right before the rush - it definitely is a busy spot. Service was super friendly and everything was pretty quick - food orders were quick, food came out quick, coffee refills were plentiful. The food prices were higher but its right on the boardwalk and the portions are huge. We split a breakfast burrito and a pancake- the pancake was fantastic, fluffy but not overly sweet. The burrito was huge with tons of egg- definitely loved adding the Habanero hot sauce to it as well. Definitely will be back next time we are in town.

Yelp
Let me begin by saying this is only my 3rd time here. Family owned business and has a long history of being a great breakfast spot and Main Street that open early. I went there this morning early, around 6:30am. Service was good. I order the 4 bacon and eggs. Eggs were fine, only half of the bacon was edible (unless you like bacon fat), and the hash browns just had kinda a funky taste. I probably wouldn't order this dish here again. I've had their breakfast burrito in the past and I liked it. The next part is why I'll never return. A couple comes in with two dogs (possibly Yorkies) sits down at a table for 4 and places the dogs on the chairs. I like dogs. I have a dog. Never would I bring it into a restaurant. Orange County Health code clearly states "service dogs only" inside a restaurant and NEVER sitting on a chair at the table. Once they both started to yap.....check please! Never again....I'll go to Denny's.

Yelp
Worth the wait if in town. Experience the full Huntington Beach experience while you wait watching all the cool cars cruising Main St. Lots of shops nearby as well. The location is not very large, but the food and service are great. We were lucky enough to be seated under 30 minutes and got a great seat on the front patio. I chose the eggs Benedict which come with hash browns. Prices were fair and we all left full and happy. Beautiful views nearby of the beach and pier.

Yelp
Stopped in while I was waiting for the Surf City marathon to finish up. I'm a sucker for a cute diner and this place delivered on ambiance. Staff was friendly as well. Ordered the Main Street breakfast burrito no cheese and added bacon. I've never seen a breakfast burrito come with sprouts and it was a nice addition! Burrito was big and they really loaded it full of bacon and avo. Bacon was a bit too crispy/dry and it was all on one side of the burrito. Burrito was also loosely wrapped with is my pet peeve. Flavor was lacking but improved overall taste with the sautéed mushrooms and onions. Also lacking in the egg department. Overall, if I am going to spend $19 dollars on a breakfast burrito it better be the best damn burrito of my life (it was not:/) ...Red beards hot sauce was an awesome addition to my burrito though! Did appreciate that my side of fruit was big and coffee was free refills.

Yelp
Awesome breakfast... fresh and fast with friendly service. Avocado bacon cheese omlet ... and Keppler's Benedict were 10/10...Family owned business that love their community!

Yelp
Seating inside and on back patio were first come, first serve. Service was quick and the food was delicious. Would recommend! We went on a Friday morning and it was pretty busy, but we had no problems getting seated. Had the breakfast special, 2 egg combo and cinnamon roll. All were great.

Yelp
Been a while since my last visit; maybe 3 years. Sophia waited on us and she seemed very disinterested; as though she had other things to do. She got my order wrong (pancakes instead of French toast for Brk special). Charged full price for what I thought was going to be a side of fruit. Coffee was fair. I've had better experiences here before. Fruit was great, pancakes good. Mostly the service that left a bad taste.

Yelp
How have I not made a review thus far.... I've been coming here for over a decade for sure maybe two. It's for outdoor seating in the front and the back.. HACK/ if it's busy the back patio has a different wait list so you can sign up back there and it's usually a lot less time. Or order to go.. and skip the line. I love the outdoor seating in the front though cus it's the best for people watching. Staff is always busting their behind. They flip tables quickly. I will say when you wait you won't be receiving a text so you'll have to wait around which can get awk when you're eating and there is four parties waiting, watching you eat more or less. lol

Yelp
This was a true disappointment After hearing good things about this place we decided to give it a try. The chef needs to put some salt and pepper on the eggs. Nothing was seasoned. Nothing was good. My son has Type 1 Diabetes and I asked for some sort of toast or something to help get his blood sugar up while we waiting for the rest of the food.....we were given one slice of sourdough....when it was time for the bill we were charged 5$ for sourdough because they have "expensive sourdough ". Long line for the restroom only one restroom for everyone. Such a waste. I will never be back even if they had a promotion giving out free food or free sourdough!

Yelp
This place was tasty! My sandwich was pretty bomb. The bread was perfectly toasted. It had a nice buttery crunch to it. The ranch dressing was delicious! The fries were crispy and excellent. I'd 100% get it again. *chefs kiss* My husband liked his meatloaf ok. He said it was good/old school but you need to be in the mood for it.... He enjoyed the mashed potatoes a lot though. He said he could tell they were homemade. I try them and thought they were tasty too. *thumbs up* The only bummer were the prices. I get that food (heck, everything!) has gone up in price but $17 for a sandwich with fries is pretty steep. :-/ Had I wanted to be "healthier" and gotten fruit instead it would have been $19 bucks. Yikes! I was thinking about getting a breakfast burrito but one with just eggs and cheese was a whopping $14.50. I just couldn't do it. That seems so outrageous to me! It's just a tortilla with a couple eggs and some cheese... at least it came with a side of hash browns, but still. I digress.... The service was great and the waitress was very nice, sweet and outgoing. :)

Yelp
So happy we found this gem! I had the sausage, egg and cheddar burrito with fruit. Both were incredible. And the hot sauce was so flavorful. We sat outside, enjoyed the weather and the exceptional service. I totally understand why they've been open forever. Can't wait to come back!

Chris K.

Yelp
Awesome, friendly staff..great food. In from Tampa, had breakfast 6 a.m. twice within the week. Eggs over easy, hash browns and (as requested) well done chicken breasts cooked perfectly!

Yelp
First time eating here. Definitely had a good unique flavor to my omelet. I will definitely be going back and do recommend this cafe
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered the egg white specialty with chicken. No flavor whatsoever. Fruits were old. Even the sourdough was below average. Not coming back.

No S.

Yelp
Used to be cool, tourist trap now. Now they want $19+tax and tip for the most basic breakfast burrito. Unless you're on vacation this isn't a good option. Absolutely nothing original about the food. Sad to see.

Yelp
Sugar Shack Cafe is just outstanding! First of all, I called a few weeks before our visit to Huntington Beach to find out about gluten-free or gluten-friendly options and they were very helpful. When we finally did visit, our first visit was excellent and our second visit was even better! It was pretty busy yesterday and our server, Julia, handled it smoothly and was very friendly and helpful, an excellent server. This morning we had the pleasure of being served by (I think the owner/manager Ryan), who was warm and welcoming and friendly. Really made us feel comfortable. And his wife (I don't think we got her name, sadly) took over service this morning and she was awesome, too. Very friendly, welcoming, and great with the coffee refills and everything else. The food was EXCELLENT. I know, you might be thinking how excited can you get about breakfast, but it was great. Coffee was delicious, bacon was crispy, eggs were fluffy, hash browns were particularly good - crispy, not the least bit greasy, just great! And the eggs Benedict (day two, this morning) were out of this world! First of all, I've almost never had an eggs Benedict dish come out hot, in any restaurant, ever, but here it came out hot! And the Hollandaise was great, not too lemony, smooth as silk; the ham was tasty, too! Nice English muffin too. Just the perfect eggs Benedict. PLUS - and a BIG plus for my wife and me - it's open at 6 AM! And I love the ambiance with the surf photos on the walls, and it's small but comfortable inside. And you CAN eat outside if you want. To me, this is the exact kind of breakfast experience you want, and I'm happy to support this business and highly recommend it to others!

Yelp
Inside photo, fun to sit outside also. Place gets really busy in the morning, lunch not so bad.

Yelp
Denver omelette was 90% vegetable My hashbrowns came out after I was 3/4 of the way done with my omelette

Yelp
Best breakfast spot in Huntington Beach by FAR! This place is super cute, sits right on mainstreet in the heart of Huntington Beach. Atmosphere is family friendly and very cozy. Outside seating available and the inside has a surfer feel vibe which is such a cool unique touch! Food is delicious and coffee tastes like you're at home in your own home. My family and I have been eating here for years and we love taking new friends and family here who visit us. The staff are super friendly and they genuinely care so much about their guests. The French toast is our favorite and of course we always enjoy a good breakfast burrito. Absolutely would recommend this place to anyone looking for a cozy breakfast spot!

Yelp
Just loaded with "Surfer" history Always fun to come to this dive. Food is great and atmosphere is down to earth. Love the Popeye omelet

Rachelle S.

Yelp
One of our favorite places to get breakfast! Right on Main Street, it has a great location. Weather it's just a quick meal with a friend or getting the family together. Fast and friendly service & good food!

Bo B.

Yelp
The place is super cute but the food has no quality is so poor. The food sucks ass. They gave me the very ends of tomatoes and everything was just greasy not good. Wouldn't not be going back.
google avatar

Kenneth S.

Yelp
Awesome place! Great staff and the breakfast was excellent. I got the bacon egg cheddar cheese burrito with hashbrowns. Hashbrowns were grill perfectly on both sides with a nice crisp. Burrito was huge with lots of bacon and egg. Didn't taste like it was seasoned, but the chili sauce they had in the bottle was very flavorful. I want to go back and get a plate breakfast with some pancakes. Next trip...

Sarah K.

Yelp
No flavor. Got the Benedict- tons of hollandaise sauce that has no flavor. Weird textured ham that was gross. Mushy hashbrowns with no salt. Like Jesus use salt people! I've had better breakfast at iHop.
google avatar

Chris Y.

Yelp
This cute little indoor outdoor café has so much seating in the food options are tremendous, but they are incredibly well-made. I wasn't able to try a whole lot here. I tried the brand muffin with a cup of coffee, and my friend has the hot apple cider. I have to tell you the service is incredible though if anything will get me to come back our server, Kayla was a lot of fun, but didn't skip a beat making sure we had all the best options ahead of us interceding has heat lamps above. The coffee is made fresh and everything taste wonderful grandma things didn't even last three minutes on her table before they became nothing more than buttered up wrappers.
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
This place was packed on a Saturday morning. Two sign ups sheets to get a table - one in the front where you officially wait and one in the back that they usher you in immediately if you're lucky enough to catch someone's eye that cares. Service here is super mediocre at best but it gets the job done. They all just seemed to want to be anywhere but there. Once we got a table drinks were served quickly and we ordered. I got the Kepplers which is a soggy mess of scrambled eggs under bacon, avocado, and hollandaise sauce. It was not good - pass on this one. Kids got the breakfast special which was an egg, pancake and meat of choice. They loved it. Hubby got the breakfast burrito which was huge but just ok. Overall pretty basic diner like food. The patio crammed about 20 tables into it and the hall from the front to the back was super tiny. One single bathroom so be prepared to wait.
google avatar

Joe L.

Yelp
3 star food and over priced sorry to say. Service was slow. Finally refilled our water at the end of our meal. It's typical diner breakfast food and average in taste. It was nice to sit outside but you're literally next to the street without any barrier. Had a guy sweep up dust and debris while we were dining. Not cool bro. Not worth the $$, and not sure what the hype is about either.

Yelp
The staple of my childhood/teen years and into the time of turning 21 and drinking too much downtown, leading us to crawl here in the morning with my friends to cure our hangovers. Sugar shack is like my definition of my beloved hometown. I love this place so much. It's pretty busy most of the time but even on the weekends around 10am I've never waited for longer than 25 mins (plus we like to sit outback where it's quiet and get some nice sun and there's usually no wait). Servers are all so friendly and the service is quick. They have the perfect breakfast options and plenty to choose from. I wish their portions were just a tad bigger, although I don't need to be eating that much anyway. It's just so good! I typically always order the breakfast special with french toast and an orange juice and it's still reasonably priced compared to chain breakfast places. The french toast is delicious, bacon is always cooked perfectly, over easy egg cooked perfectly, ugh I just love it all. I'm out in Anaheim Hills now so when I do get to come down, it's definitely a treat.

Yelp
Can't believe I never reviewed this place that's really an institution in downtown HB. Michelle and family are amazing and the food is fresh with great portions and tastes great! The "Michelle Special" is my go to but everything on the menu is fantastic. The servers are super attentive and always smiling and friendly. This is a must go to if you've never been. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Jessica was our server today and she goes above and beyond what great service is and is an asset to this establishment.

Joanne S.

Yelp
Everything runs like a top with great service by the lovely Summer! Food great. Love the Wednesday turkey dinner take out!

Yelp
Attention fam! I lived downtown for more than A decade! Today, they microwaved a grilled cheese that my GF ordered; how disgusting and extremely lazy is that? This place doesn't care about its customers. I Watched the cooks wipe their hair/4head and touch the food; I felt pretty sick looking at them and ... (let's not even talk about the cleanliness in the kitchen. Wow, gross. If you value yourself and your well-being, then it's simple: stay away! This owner has shit on his mother's hard work. I would be ashamed to be alive and walking on earth if I were this guy; I hope I never run into such a low-minded Individual.

Eva M.

Yelp
Always amazing!! Portions are excellent service is friendly and accurate Location downtown Huntington Beach!

Yelp
One of the best breakfast places I've ever tried! I generally don't have super high expectations with breakfast places bc its usually just overpriced eggs but this place puts breakfast foods to a whole new level Wait times vary but get longer during popular brunch times BUT the inside is first come first serve so I would recommend peaking in if there are any open tables you can snag. We found a few open tables and sat down right away with no wait. Ordered the kepplers whole size (this is more worth since they basically double everything for like $2 more) and everything was super delicious-- the eggs were fluffy soft overlaying the crisp bacon topped with delicious hollandaise sauce. I love how the top layer of the hash browns are really crispy juxtaposed to the soft, buttery texture underneath I'm usually pretty sensitive to oily foods but honestly it didn't feel super heavy-- I did not get a food coma as I expected lol highly recommend!! Worth the hype
google avatar

Annika W.

Yelp
Greasy diner food at its best, the portions are generous and the food is fresh. The waitress was fast and attentive. Steer clear of the tap water tho, it doesn't taste filtered. I really liked the jalapeño spicy sauce - it was very flavorful and not painful :) An extra perk is that it opens quite early so it's one of the only breakfast spots by the pier.
google avatar

Yelp
Atmosphere on a weekend for brunch is lively. Food is ok. Service is great. If you get there before 9:30 am you have a better chance of getting seated quicker. Could be a little wait if you get there later.
